I have one of those routers. What exactly can you do with it when pirate-box is installed? Can you use the thing to share a wired internet connection like you can with the original firmware? That's the only thing keeping me from putting it on mine is that I use mine for wired to wireless internet at hotels without messing with settings.

Aussie here, working on something more use-specific than a pirate box.

My home connection is something under 400KB/s, my workplace has easily 5MB/s when no-one's there (5PM-8:40AM).
I've got a bit of spare desk space in my lab, I was thinking of making something small and inconspicuous, a wooden box perhaps, with some guts inside.
Trying to work out what to put in though. I'm thinking a 2.5" at least, something with Ethernet, x86 if I can think of anything.
Honestly at this point I'm thinking a RPi/odroid and a wireless access point.

I used to run a torrent server at my Uni's library over night using the free guest accounts. Took them 3 years to notice and deactivate the guest account after hours. Even that was probably because people would sit out on the benches outside the door after hours to get free internet.
I just used an old laptop and hid it in the drop ceiling in the stair well. Plugged it into an outlet that was above the drop ceiling from before it was installed. Obviously I took it out over the summers when I wasn't there.
