Hey guys, remember me? I picked up this safe/locker/whatever at a storage auction several months ago, you guys helped me out with it. Although it didn't have keys, you guys directed me to a key code on the back. Anyway, I ordered new keys and got them in and everything, but they almost work. I can turn the lock about 1/4 of the way and it just stops turning.
Any ideas? Again, I don't want to damage the locker or anything, I want to either use it or maybe sell it depending on what it's worth.
...guys?
>inb4 stolen
If it were stolen I'd have pried it open already. We've established this months ago.
>>729101
jiggle it
lean on the door
>>729128
No joy. Anyway, bedtime. I'll be back and check ITT in the morning.
>>729134
Might be a straight up badly cut key. I would be seeking the advice of whoever cut they key before you came asking us.
>>729135
It came from Stack-On, so it's probably right.
>>729136
I have no idea what a stack-on is, but if it involves humans, there is potential for error. Do as you wish, but I would be asking the guys who claim to know before anything else.
>>729140
Stack on is the manufacturer of the box. They probably get the locks and keys in batches, so op most likely has a matching key.
>>729142
There is no value whatsoever in checking with the manufacturer to be sure everything is as it should be after a key replace, before tearing apart and possibly destroying a completely functional device. Got it.
I'd try to pick the lock to open it and then replace the lock. If you don't know how to pick a lock look it up on youtube or google.
>>729101
If the key partially turns it means something on the inside is catching on the locking bars.
Shake the fuck out of it and try again.
>>729126
why havn't you pried it open?
>>729146
This.
Might wanna try tapping it a bit. Could be rust if iron or aluminum oxidation if the lock is aluminum or steel corrosion. If the lock is composed of steel/iron and aluminum, you will need to buy Flitz Aluminum Preclean. The surface of any aluminum material quickly becomes aluminum oxide when exposed to water or air. When it comes in contact with steel/iron, and the steel/iron begin to rust, the bond between aluminum oxide and steel surface becomes incredibly strong and difficult to move.
Like I said though, insert the key into the key hole. Gently tap the key from as many directions as possible. Shake the key a bit. Then try again. Chances are one of the locking bars rusted with the interior. If brass is involved, you might try searching for some other chemicals. Rust removes will be no good as the problem is with other metals.
Have you tried lubricating the lock? But since it turns part way it does sound like something is jammed. Try tapping on the key with a small hammer or screw driver handle while turning.
You could always drill out the lock, weld a new lock bar on it, and just use a padlock or some shit. I know you said you'd like to avoid damaging it, but it's a shitty stackon cabinet, so you won't be harming the integrity of it by welding a lock bar on.
Welp, 24 hours of penetrating oil and no luck. I'll try some more tomorrow.
Jeez, can these guys just give you a new safe already? Got a warranty?
>>729579
>warranty
OP stated in the op that he got the box at a storage auction.
>>729101
op lockfag here, have you tried picking it at all? in all seriousness, most storage cabinets that lock have cheaply made wafer locks that are VERY easy to pick.
Tap it with a soft face hammer as you try to turn the key. A piece of wood will do the trick.
thing is you'll need a matching key/lock eventually if you want to use it.
just drill out the lock, open it, then install a new cabinet lock
>>729144
Also, the manufacturer will be able to help you with this specific model. They'll know if it's prone to breaking or whatever.
>>729660
Yeh, like they would divulge any defects.
Drill the damn lock out. The safe itself will be fine and you can drop a new one in.
>>729662
If OP just paid for a key direcly from the manufacturer and it doesn't work, they need to help him out or refund the cost of the key. I'm not suggesting they are obliged to overhaul the lock, but i'm sure they would know some protips for buggy locks and would be happy to help if asked. He did shell them dosh after all.
>>729662
depending on the age of it, not unlikely, but it is much less likely that a lock box company has tech support
>>729101
It could be that the key is right for the lock from the factory, but the lock has been used so much with one key that the key and the lock have worn together, and now only that key opens it.
You could try copying the key you got, filing the copy down a mm or so, and bumpkeying it.
If you explained your problem to a locksmith, he could probably cut you a shortened key and save you the filing.
>>729700
Just drill the fucking lock out already. Or not, I just want to see what's inside. http://www.reddit.com/r/WhatsInThisThing/ may be able to help (they open locked boxes and safes etc.)
Hooray! I got the lock to turn! It looks like a rag was catching on it - I forced it so hard I bent a key, but whatever, I have another. Since you guys were pretty helpful, I'll liveblog what's inside. I'm pretty excited!
So here's the bent key, still works.
I gave it a turn and....
Wut.
Welp, I guess it wasn't Heisenberg's safe. No stacks of cash.
Sorry for the shaky pictures, I'm still pretty excited at this point.
OK, here's something.
It looks like some weird tool, like a big bottle opener
Am lurking continue please am excited aswell
And I took these out. They're heavy!
I'm going to stop right here, what the fuck is this stuff anyway. Maybe I should be careful?

Here's a clearer photo, tape measure for scale.

Dude you found nugget food. Ammo for a Mosin Nagant
>>729888
7.62x54r 100 round ammo cans
contains ammo for a mosin nagant
>>729888
7.62mm ammo cans
>>729893
Like yes.
And its not cheap like it used to be
How safe is this to handle, I don't know shit about guns. Does the 440 mean the amount of bullets? That means I have 880 bullets?
>>729895
440 bullets in each tin
they are safe to handle, nothing will happen until you have them in the gun.
The "tool" is a can opener. Probably for opening the ammo boxes
>>729895
Should be safe to handle, don't put it in the oven though. That's at least a few hundred dollars worth of ammo.
Show the rest am still intersted
>>729895
>I don't know shit about guns
All you know now is, you gotta buy a nugget!
>>729898
OK, so I'll just handle them with care I guess. They made it this far without blowing up, logically I should be fine. Thanks for the reassurance though.
So I'm going to dig around a bit more, there's some other stuff wrapped up in there. BRB.
>>729903
they wont "blow up" unless you leave them in a fire for an hour. open one, Im curious to see the quality inside
>>729903
Don't hit them with a hammer or put them in a fire, they won't go off. Don't leave them in hot sunlight or under a heater, they won't be as effective
>>729904
>>729905
Oh, I'm not touching that stuff, lol. Kind of bummed it's not a pile of cash from some drug lord but whatever.
Well, I took the small things out. Looks like I have some nuggets. There's two of everything so far.
>>729907
pso type scope, calling it
I'm trying not to shake, I swear. Now I'm just nervous. I get the best results stabilizing the camera against my knee.
>>729909
Here's one.
yup called it, you fucking cashed out, even the cheap ones are like $200 each
>>729910
Is that a penis extruder
And the other.
>>729908
Confirmed?
Here's the first...thing.
And another...
>>729913
those look like pso-3's scopes, that may be a psl mag
>>729915
good $25-30 each
>>729916
lol, I'll be sure to google that in a sec
Two of these, everything wrapped up in individual rags.
>>729919
trigger groups for that big ass psl?
Okay now this shit is making sense don't sell anything keep all of this your bound to find parts of a gun soo assemble it and prepare for the apocalypse
>>729919
I like your toes btw
hurry up and open the rest of that shit
It's like real life Day-Z
>OP has the components to make two PSLs
Nice.
So, two of these blankets,
And I've officially shit my pants.
Now I'm really shaking, I've never handled a gun before, I don't even want to touch the other is this safe?
>all this fucking gear
Jesus OP, did you buy a soviet hitman's case or something?
>>729928
bull the silver handle back and look inside. when you do pull the handle back it will eject any ammo still in there
not a bad haul OP, im fairly jealous
>>729931
Here's a better picture, where is this handle located?
>>729928
It won't explode. Just don't point it at anything and keep your booger hook off the bang switch. Even if it was cocked and fully loaded and you dropped it, it probably wouldn't go off.
>>729928
Perfectly safe. Don't touch the trigger yet. Read up on gun safety, and check the chamber.
>>729934
>>729934
That's not a mosin, that's one of them fancy pants AK's that cost thousands of dollars.
>>729939
not illegal if you live in the us
Trigger group may be in the safe, but that thing is worth a lot of money, anon.
>>729928
Well now I'm not sure about the legality. Depending on your state and how you acquired the storage locker, you may need to go get those registered / cleared at a gun shop, especially if you want to sell them. Might want to go ask /k/ about that.
>>729942
SVD's/PSL's are semi-auto only. OP unlocked quite a treasure chest.
Alright, I have to go pick up my kid from school. I'll come back in a few and continue, also give me a chance to calm down. I'm just going to put this stuff back in the box and lock it.
>>729937
Thanks. Can anyone else confirm, I don't want to shoot anyone/thing.
>>729942
Dude it's an SVD/PSL/Whatever. It's not auto.
>>729943
no such thing as registering a gun unless its a regulated fire arm, like pistols, grenade launchers, full auto. (this is none of those)
>>729943
FUCK I didn't even think about that, should I call the cops? It's bad enough dealing with my wife when she hears about this shit.
>>729952
How much of an idiot are you?
You wandered into a legally obtained firearm.
