you need a video acquisition card fast enough, which for sure doesn't come with an usb interface so you can't.
But maybe, if you can settle with lower resolutions you may be lucky with one with usb3.

You cant do it with out taking apart your laptop screen and using a lcd controller for it, easiest solution is to get a usb capture device / tv tuner. You can get them on ebay cheap.

Yep cool story. So my mother passed and I've got her family firepocker (don't ask me why it's a thing, mums side of the family is weird and Scottish) anyways it's well over a hundred years old. The shaft is just a thick metal wire, and it doesn't have a handle. What's the best way to make and attach a handle for it?

Hey /diy/

As a project I'm making a boat. So far almost everything is hand made even the out board which isn't too powerful. Where do you guys buy your electric motors? I'm looking for high HP, preferably 36V (can be 24V), sub $1000 motors. I'm currently using a 1/3 Hp electric lawn mower motor that works but is not every powerful although it runs for a long time.

>>inb4 google
I trust this board a lot more.

Your pic is not a DC motor, or not at the voltages you describe.

Post a pic of your boat or some reasonable idea of what you mean by high HP and we can help you.
>>
>>1198499
Pic is what came up when I googled "electric motor on google".

Boats at my university on the other side of the us from me so i can't really post a picture.

It's about 200 Pounds without anyone on. Were going to use two 24V Lead gel Car batteries in series (I can find the brand if needed) or make a new system with two 36V batteries if we can find a motor for it. Were currently using the rechargeable battery the motor came with.

By high horsepower I mean from 5-10 HP

I would like to start off by saying, I am NOT shilling this website, I do not work for them, or get paid to sponsor them.

that being said, the fucking thing should be in the sticky, I seriously could not find a website any cheaper then this.

http://www.surpluscenter.com/Electric-Motors/

I needed to replace my tablesaw motor, and for the asking prices on ebay/craigslist for USED motors were the EXACT price for a NEW motor from surplus center.. so its pretty fucking good. my little hidden gem.

a good motor for even something weighing 700lbs total.

http://www.surpluscenter.com/Electric-Motors/3-Phase-Motors/3-Phase-Motors-Base-Mount/?page_no=1&fq=ATR_Motors_HP:7\-1/2

the only downside of the website for me, is they charge for shipping and hell it ain't cheap, expect 35-50 dollars in shipping on your total budget. and of course I think they only sell inside the USA.

Look into AC instead of DC, better on-demand torque and more effective as boat motors.

Hey /diy/, /mu/ here. I'm making fast, dirty custom band patches for a battle jacket and I need to know the best type/brand of paint to use on denim.

Same people say specific brands, some people just say any acrylic as long as you heat-treat it. Other people complain about acrylic because it feels too stiff, but I don't particularly care as long as it's durable.

Planning for it to be white on black stuff like pic related.

Got any advice?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I'd say buy a few different types of spray cans and try them out. I think some sort of a stencil and spray painting over it is the easiest method.

I don't know how much the stiffness affects anything as, to my understanding, patches are relatively small and tend to be on flatter surfaces. If stiffness is an issue, you could try dyes or bleaches on denim. I think any substance that would get absorbed by the fabric would work but the end result would be less detailed.
>>
>>1198051

If you're looking for it to last, heat treated acrylic is the way to go. Go the extra step and buy Fray Check to go over it once you've heat treated. If you only hand wash it'll last damn near forever.
>>
>>1198051

dont, if you're going to look fucking retarded. unless you're 15, in which case you're cringe.

either way, stop being a degenerate and dress properly

Recently I found I bunch of my grandpas Yugoslav vacuum tubes (valves) in my basement. He used to be an electrical engineer so i recon he either used them for work or to repair house appliances (like our old TV)

Since I am a electrical engineering freshmen and know nothing about tubes or transistors/amplifiers I have a few questions

1. How do I test if they are in working condition ? Some of them were out of box and some were intact sealed in the box

2. What do the pins mean ? I know the basics of how the tubes work but these things have 9 pins, what are they for ?

3. Suggest something cool I could make out of them, so far I had no idea what to do with them. I found 11 of them so far and there could possibly be even more

>>

1. Find a tube tester or build a bunch of test circuits. You can also use a multimeter to check against shorts or burned filaments.
2. The same way you find out what some random IC and its pins do: read the datasheet.
3. You could insert them in your ass.

cat litter or sawdust, scrub hard

Finish with a harsh as fuck solvent like chlorinated brake cleaner
>>
>Put sawdust on it
>Wait 3 days
>Remove sawdust and then water last the fuck out of the concrete
>Pout bleach over the area
>Waterblast the fuck out of it again
>Sandpaper (by hand) the remaining spots
DONT DO IT AGAIN!!
>>
>>1196907

I already soaked the oil up. Should I still use cat litter in that case? And should I sweep up all cat litter before hitting it with a strong solvent?

Hello /diy/,

I'm about to painting my newly bought used and abused desk. Gotta wait for tomorrow because sun is basically setting right now.
But for right now, sand paper and drilling can be done

I swear english is my first language.

So while sanding down the desk, I've uncovered marks where the sun and the desk do not meet. Remnants of what the previous owner has used this before.

It looks like particle board with some paper veneer. I've gotten better desks off the free section of CL and you paid money for that? And now you are going to waste more money painting it? Why? The paint is just going to wear off in a few months anyway.

Can someone explain these to me?

I want to put a GPS tracker hidden somewhere in my car incase it is ever stolen at gunpoint. I work in a dangerous area and car jackings are fairly common unfortunately. I have a concealed carry permit but sometimes it might be easier to give up the car then be shot to death.

However, If it is ever stolen. I want the police to be able to recover it before It's stripped.

I've been looking at a few GPS trackers on eBay. I notice they need a SIM card, But then in the related items people are selling prepaid SIM cards.

How does that all work? Do I pay monthly? How much data do they use? How much should I expect to pay a year for it?

Are there any that come with the SIM and just gives you a flat yearly price?

Niggers are not that smart where I live.

They just want to use your car in other armed robberies then either half hardheartedly strip it with the tools they stole from family dollar or set it on fire behind an abandon building

How do you deal with hedge cuttings that fall on your neighbor's side?

I was thinking about a leaf sucker/shredder, but it would have to be portable AND very powerful (talking about a lot of hedge here).

First off, I don't feel like asking three (3) neighbors for full access to their yard twice a year.
Secondly, the space between the wire fence and the hedge is too narrow.

Hello all. Ive had these makita disc sanders for about twenty years and have been able to get replacement pieces for anything that went bad up until recently. They discontinued the bearings used in this model and I've been searching for a couple months to no avail. Can anyone direct me to anywhere that may have an abundance of sizes of bearings, or something of the sort. The bearing used reads "NSK-100-6200DU2"

Thank you for your help, this is by far my favorite board on 4chan!

>>
Measure ID, OD and width then contact a bearing supplier online with the pic, part number and the above dimensional info.

They have phone numbers and email addresses for a reason. Don't be afraid to contact vendors. Bearings are cheap so I suggest buying spares AFTER you ensure a particular bearing does the job.
>>
literally just googled the fucking SN and found 1000 results. can you be this stupid?
>>
>>1200017
Do this.

A lot of bearing suppliers just work on these measurements on their websites.

OP here, shameless self bump/question

Is anyone familiar with NSW forestry laws? I'd like to go burl harvesting but I'm not so sure if it's legal to cut down trees in state forest- especially those with burls considering different rules apply for those in the U.S. Do I need a permit? Or is my only choice dumping 1.5million into a property with private land?

yep! spalted wood is characterised by decaying wood/infected wood from stress on the tree.

So, what useful things do you think i could get from one of those?

what's so special about it if you're not going to get the engine/hydraulic pumps/motors/cylinders?

i guess switches (that you could get anywhere)
lights? (that you could get anywhere)
it probably doesn't need 'circuits'
