Does anyone know what the "FU" or "FD" on the resistor stands for? I'm trying to fix my TV's mainboard but I can't seem to find these types of resistors anywhere. Pic related.

Manufacturers mark, not relevant to the value. Any .47 ohm, 2w resistor will do the job.

Also, /sqt/ is here >>1197524 faggot.

It's "FU" and it clearly means "fuck you".

>I'm trying to fix my TV's mainboard b

How can someone be qualified to work on that and not be familiar with resistors?

I have to say, we get some first class trolls in here. Are you Australian?

I fucked up. Need advice.

I broke and then threw away a closet door in the apartment I'm renting. I figured I'd just buy a new one before moving out. It turns out the old door was 77" tall, which isn't a standard size I can get at any store. I tried going to Home Depot and Rona and they wouldn't cut down one of their doors for "safety reasons". They said they could have one custom built in five weeks. I need to get the door replaced before I move out on Sunday or the landlord will make me pay thousands.

I think my options are:
1) Rent a table saw and shorten a door myself. I'm not sure if that would look shitty or not.

2) Buy a big piece of nice looking wood at Home Depot, then ask them to cut it. I know they don't have rules against that and a door is basically just a slab of wood. I'd have to do the hinges and handle myself. This might also look really shitty.

>>
These both sound like they will look really shitty. Do you seriously think your landlord won't notice an entirely different door? Have you tried anywhere other than Home Depot?
>>
>>1201264
The old door wasn't great when I moved in. It had a huge piece of veneer ripped off and I have that in a document the landlord signed. She's not going to complain if I replace it with a new door so long as it doesn't look like shit.
>>
>>1201260
Do you have a ReStore in your area? They are operated by Habitat for Humanity. Mine has doors for fucking days and they don't give a shit what you do with them. Cheap as hell too. Like, $20 for a door. They are used of course, but you'll have plenty of cash left over to have someone cut it down for you.

Whats up guys, so my brother and I have 3 plots of land and are thinking about building a two story duplex on each lot. We already own the properties. I am wondering (if anyone here has built their own) how much it would run us to build it ourselves. Any information on the subject would help greatly, thanks.

About $80k a piece if you're talking a complete home (central heat/air, appliances, fixtures, etc).
Just a decent sized a/c unit will run $5k.
$40k if you did EVERYTHING yourself and skimped on quality products.
>>
>>1200396
this is WILDLY dependent on location, as code, price of materials, etc.,varies considerably. and if you're gonna do duplexes to rent out, i guarantee you don't have the experience needed to do this right in order to not end up being sued by renters.

Hey guys, serious question: If I'm going to completely tile in my bathroom floor to ceiling, is it necessary to use drywall, or can I go with plywood (like OSB sheathing) for the walls? If not, why? I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest option, here, it's just that hanging drywall didn't make a ton of sense to me considering it's in a bathroom and it's so susceptible to mold. I was looking at cement board, but I'd have to order it since no one around me carries it.

I'm ripping out my whole bathroom down to the studs because the drywall is ruined and the subfloor isn't level, so I can start completely from scratch.

Pic related, it's an example of what I'd like to do but maybe not that color.

I think you'd be better off using cement backer board?
>>
>>1200383
This is the way forward op
When wet plasterboard will mush and crumble. Even the moisture resistant stuff isn't meant for constant exposure to water.
When wet plywood will bend and warp. Usually waterproof or exterior ratings for plywood apply to the glue, not the wood. It won't fall apart but your tiles will pop off.

The only reasonable alternative is 'tanking' the plasterboard/drywall where you paint it with plastic basically to make it waterproof. Up to you but I wouldn't bother.

Cement backer board can be tiled on directly. Because its cement based water only makes it stronger. It will drink all the water you can throw at it without bending warping degrading mushing etc.
Floors I would suggest exterior ply with cement backer on top.
Ceiling? Who cares. Moisture resistant ply might work, never seen a ceiling tilted before.

I'm going to put a trailer hitch shelf on the back of the van to hold my generator and 6 gallon water jugs. I plan to put a tank on the roof when stationary to heat up and have an outdoor shower. I can easy change the jugs, only weighing 48lb each because they are 6 gallon. Any heavier and frequent lifting and moving jugs could cause injury.

Depending on what you use it for you need to do certain things, if you plan on using it for blacksmithing or armoring make sure the top of the surface still has a temper to it and isn't rusted to shit, I would recommend looking up some anvil reference images and seeing how they look, only problem with railroad rails is the top side of them have rounded sides when a real anvil has perfect 90 degree sides, it can be fixed with a grinder though

basically just use a good angle grinder and for the hardy hole(s) just use a bench press drill and keep going up a size until you get the desired size

What is a HHO generator:
it turns water(H20) into 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom by using electricity. hydrogen is a gas that is a great fuel for making:
>combustion engines way more efficient
>could be used as a burner for welding etc.
>making hydrogen and oxygen for many other applications you may need.

Firstly, I'm a tattooer, so I don't know the terms, and might even ask for something else than what I'm looking for, but I'm sure a skilled coder/cnc-magician would know once having read...

I have a friend in California who has any and all tools to build and entire city from scratch, as in he can build the tools that build the city. I can get ahold of the info on what machines he has, and I think I recall him being stoked about his german machines and even a japanese one, if not he was comparing his much better german one to a japanese equivalent... I'm sorry for all the blathering, but if you're my guy, you'll have to get used to it. I do my best to make people I deal with happy though, most often people like or manage to work with me, or paying me to do work. The pros outweigh the cons to keep it simple.

I need someone who can code something I'll design for a cnc machine, you tell me what you need, and I'll do my best to draw that which I'm looking to get built.

It's as you might've deduced, a tattoo machine.

I'm of course paying, but have no clue how much something like this would cost/how many hours it would take and how valuable your time is.

If someone is interested and has the skills, please contact me. Also thread about how to understand what I'm asking about, so that I can more easily understand the capacities and limits of the CNC machine. Lingo, etc, please. I would appreciate it alot!

[email protected] for offers to take on the job

Pic related, I think it looked like this one, in which case it's japanese. He has cancer, works in Cali, so we were smoking weed there too, can't remember everything perfectly clear sorry!

>It's as you might've deduced, a tattoo machine.

so, CNC is good because you can make many parts with just one program. doing one offs is kind of a terrible application of the technology. programs have to be proven out on the machine, you rarely can ever just whip up some g-code smash the green button. unless the parts are trivially simple and have loose tolerances you are going to be going back and forth between the machine, the computer, and the part to dial in the perfect program for that specific machine.
>>
>>1200645
Sent you an email.
>>
>>1200645
it's difficult because people move and then you lose zero on the machine, more over skin isn't stiff so the needle might go too shallow or too far (nicking a tendon or muscle)

If you vacuum bag an alarm clock will you be unable to hear it?
12 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>1200341

you would still hear it because vacuum bag does not create a vacuum like a vacuum chamber it just mean putting it inside a condom
>>
>>1200341
Of course you would you idiot, the alarm is in contact with the plastic and would move around making noise. There would be no vaccume around it as the plastic clings to it. Retard
>>
>>1200341
The vacuum bag will stick to the surface of the clock so there won't be a vacuum between the clock and the exterior of the bag. Also the vacuum crated by a vacuum cleaner is extremely far from a perfect vacuum.

Don't post stupid questions on /diy/ again, we have stupid question threads for something, retard.

I tried posting this on /g/ in the programming general but nobody seemed to respond, I guess it was kind of the wrong place to ask so I'll ask here. I also asked over in /wsr/ and they said to come here... so here it goes...

But basically I have this Remington IPL device and they limit the flashes to 1500 but I used Bus Pirate to reset the flash count in kind of a ghetto way cause the they use a DS2431 chip inside the flash tube cartridge and it's easily accessible.

BUT I'd like to increase the juice and solder on my very own quartz flash tube. The patents say the DS2431 chip contains information like current # of flashes, total flashes, manufacturing date, and initial energy of the lamp
The patents say the device automatically adapts and adjusts voltages to whatever flash tube you stick in there as long as you get the settings roughly close enough to cause it to actually spark and flash.

pic related is what bus pirate spits out and I have no idea where to go from here. I've only got like limited programming experience in C#, VB, and I guess matlab if that counts...
I'd like to be able to kind of reverse engineer it to figure out what all the data is but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Supposedly the chip has all the settings needed to modify the device for nearly any flash tube.

>>1198436
wow well thanks for including all the patents that is very helpful.
what the fuck are you talking about op? you have real hairy legs or something?
if it adapts to the tube then swap it in what do you have to lose?

if you want to actually work out whats in the eeprom you need to make a big list of everything that could be in there and then think of ways of how that information could be stored and then try and find it in the listing. obviously if its storing the manufacture date you could try and find that. ascii numbers are all 0x3z. doesn't look like enough of them together to be a date. maybe try one of the epoch times? (i.e. seconds since a certain date, linux and windows do this) or maybe some universal time standard i don't know i'm not a time expert.
look for patterns, 0x01 0x37 0x34 appears regularly, i noticed that looking for ascii numbers, maybe its some pointer or data separator?

sometimes there will be a sequence to mark a start and end of a bit of data, sometimes there will be a byte that tells you how many bytes the data is at the start or sometimes at the end, perhaps there is some kind of check digit or crc for each section of data, when you change something does something unexpected change too?
how many devices do you have access to to compare?
also what the fuck are you doing having row 1 with 15 bytes? line those fuckers up properly, try 8, 16, etc etc see if anything jumps out.

Oh sorry, patents for the light cartridge are here:
https://www.google.com/patents/US8480721
Here are some stuff from where they were saying what's on the chip:
>One or more predetermined values stored in the memory can be indicative of an aging characteristic (e.g., gradual reduction in light output) of the flash lamp(s) and/or of an efficiency of the flash lamp(s).
>The memory is preferably a EEPROM element that provides non-volatile random memory access to stored flash lamp characteristics, such as a maximum number of flashes available for the flash lamp(s), a current flash count for such flash lamp(s), a range of wavelengths emitted by the flash lamp(s) (particularly useful when the flash lamp(s) include filter coatings on their exterior), an initial amount of electrical energy desired for driving the flash lamp(s) into a pulse state, a first electrical compensation factor to adjust for reduced light output from the flash lamp(s) as a result of aging, a second electrical compensation factor to adjust for the electrical-to-optical conversion efficiencies of particular flash lamp(s) or flash lamp types, flash lamp and cartridge manufacturing information (e.g., date, part number, etc.), an authorization code for the replaceable light cartridge, and/or the like.
