>Before Buying new house
>Inspector comes to house
>We look at secondary basement panel and see rust on nuts holding it to wall
>We figure "eh condensation or a leak or something"
>5 months later first big storm
>Come down stairs and see the FUCKING ELECTRICAL PANEL IS PISSING WATER
These are from after the fact at the height it looked like a fountain.
Contacts are rusty and soaked too
I just bought pic related. I plan on buying a 3/4 inch birch plywood to use as a table top. It's going to be 70 to 78 inches in length by 30 inches width. Should I stick with Birch or consider something else like Maple?
Should I stain it with anything? I would like to have something I don't need coasters (for drinks) with, but don't really care. It's nice enough without any stain.
you spent $500 on a table without a top???
>>1200747
It's an electric height adjustable standing/sitting desk frame. The table tops they had for sale were about $170 for the size I wanted and was made of shit wood.
>>1200748
What a great investment. It's so much easier to use an AppĀ© to adjust the height of your table than to bend over and press a lever.
Go kart questions and trouble shooting
So I took the engine out of an broken generator someone was selling on craigslist. The engine itself runs great, but after spending a load of time trying to get the alternator off of the motor, I've run into trouble getting the shaft that ran through the generator off. I removed the long bolt that ran through the shafts for the alternator, but I still can't get the rest of it to come off. The engine pictured is a up168 196cc engine. How do I get this freaken thing off?
Lol idk. I don't know anything about engines.
Probably pressed on
Need a huge puller or just angle grind it off

If I was Dr. WHO I'd use alot of WD40 and my sonic screw driver.
But sound, constant pressure, & WD40 might work.
What's a trade i can teach myself and then get work out of?
>%%%####$$$$LIMITS$$$$####%%%
>only have a bike, no car or licence

It's nice to diagnose yourself a tumor to have an excuse for being a fucking lazy piece of shit. You won't teach yourself anything when you can't even make the effort to get a driving license, you need someone to teach you because you won't learn anything.

I have come into possession of a demo unit of a Nakamichi NK6 soundbar and wired subwoofer. As it's a demo, it has several parts either disconnected or downright missing, most importantly the volume control.
Following are some pictures I have taken of the circuit board for the sub, which takes the inputs, and close ups of various parts.
I spotted two connectors that have no associated wires, and I'm thinking one of these are the volume control. As if stands now, the unit defaults to 'very fricking loud', and whines from the soundbar section when powered on.
Im looking to add a volume control to what I have, but understand just enough about electronics to know not to mess with it.
At the top of the subwoofer is a digital pot, which rotates continuously (ie, it doesn't have a start/stop position), which would be both the input selector (when pushed in), power button (when pressed and held), and volume (when twisted).
Apologies for the rotated pictures. Top is in all cases to the left.
Hi /diy/
I am in serious need of some DIY assistance. The fuse to my garage door has blown, so I cannot open the door using the controls.
However, an electrician showed me a temporary way to open and close the door. He put the 1, 2, and 3 wires in a specific order, turned on the relay, and it would go up. Then he would put them in another order, turn on the relay, and it would go down.
The problem is that I have forgotten this temporary fix, and now I have 6 wires that I have absolutely no idea where to put. And as it is electricity, I do not like to experiment my way through.
I have labeled 3 wires "1" "2" and "3" according to the text on the wire itself. The "A" "B" and "C" names are just for directional use and has no meaning.
I hope someone is able to help my out
Appreciate it
>>1202061
is it 3 phase?
how do you turn the relay on?
if its 3 phase power on the left and 3 phase motor on the 3 wires on the right then put the wires in the left in the left and put the wires in the right in the right. the order doesn't matter. it will turn the motor one way. to reverse the motor swap any 2 of the wires on the right. or any 2 on the left i guess lol!
that is, like i said, if its simply a 3 phase feed and a 3 phase motor with a contactor in the middle.
if it's a 3-phase circuit (which is what you expect when you see L1 L2 L3) then the guy above is correct but not very clear. so, to be clear, if you connect 1-A 2-B 3-C it'll turn one way but if you substitute 2 connections, say 1-A 2-C 3-B then it turns the other way. but this is dangerous to do unless you have a power switch that you can switch off while you're making the connections.
also, doing this eliminates all the safety precautions, like limit switches, so you might end up trying to close an already closed door, which is no fun for the gears.
Relay to turn power on and off for the garage door (and oven, stove, etc.)
Didn't find a knifemaking thread so here it is.
I have this blade from a knife i got from a friend before he passed away. The handle was crappy as shit and broke but the blade is sharp and keeps an edge well so i want to make a new handle for it. But as you guys can see the tang is close to nonexistant. Any tips for lengthening/strengthening it without welding?
Worst case, I could go down to a local metalshop and have them weld a piece of 1075 springsteel to it but i'd rather put the dosh towards a block of cool wood for the handle and some velvet for the sheath i'm making for it
sorry for potatophone camera pic but my SLR cam is at my dad's place
Not needed. That's short enough you'll probably need to epoxy it in place though. I'd suggest lengthening it by grinding the bolster shorter, that'll give you another half inch, which should be plenty.
1. Grind. Wrap blade with damp rag while doing this to prevent heat transmission up the blald and ruining the temper.
2. Make handle.
3. Clean handle and blade with acetone, to remove any natural resins from the wood surface that will interfere with the glue.
4. Pin + Epoxy.
Should work fine.
Do i have to heat treat/forge the blade when making a small folding knife?
>>1202028
yes.
only exception to that is if you have sourced pre-heat-treated, hardened and tempered steel stock.
(which is rare as fuck, and will be specified as such. Normally, as something like "pretreated 10XX strip stock 56HrC, (dimensions)" is the description for that. "strip stock (dimensions) or anything like that is by default delivered in a untreated state.
All knives will requite heat-treat to take from a good steel stock to a usable blade.
Hi, iv'e recently got a tattoo machine wich works via a magnetic coil and a foot pedal, well the problem is that i need to press the pedal every cycle.
In short, how to i make it rapidly cycle.
btw. pic related

Adjust it properly. If you don't know how to use the tat gun you shouldn't be giving tats.
So i decided that a hot tub is needed in my life. I was thinking of building it out of cinder block and having it heat by fire. Fuel of course being wood and propane.
My question for /diy/, How well will cinder blocks hold up against say 800-1200 gallons of water.
Also i plan to attach a salt/sand filter pump. Will the salt hurt the copper greatly? or can i use something else for heat transfer.
Also im unsure if i will use a liner or just seal it with silicone or some other stuff. any suggestions would be great
thanks guys.
>>1201510
bah forgot the part about using a copper coil/oven like most diy tubs.
they hold up entire buildings. do you really they think they give a shit about a couple tons of water? you already have a pic of a completed one, what is the point of this thread dingus?
>>1201510
>if i will use a liner or just seal it with silicone or some other stuff.
they used to have this display in the paint stores showing how UGL Drylock waterproofed cinder blocks. I'd google for real life discussions before trying it. I think it was more for waterproofing a basement so it might not apply to your small swimming pool.
Hi guys and girls, I have not used 4chan before today so flame if need be.
I have a repairs question with regards to my backpack. It is a trespass trek 66ltr https://www.greatoutdoorssuperstore.co.uk/trespass-trek-66-litre-rucksack-ash-p39317/s127029 that I have been using for a few months now. At the base of the bag alongside my back the "Back support bars" have punctured through the material and protrude now. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a long term repair rather than duct taping it. The bars have pierced both sides of the bag ( One for each bar) leaving small holes. In its current state it still works but the protruding bars dig into my hips.
Cheers in advance!
left hole without bar
right hole without bar
I'd get some wide nylon webbing, then sew it with heavy needle and heavy duty thread on the inside to close the hole and reinforce it.....just a guess
perhaps ask in >>>/out/ later on
hey, does anyone know how to build a altcoin mine ? a little one for starters, just for the fun not for profit, would like to mine litecoin

I have a small yard, only about 400 sq ft. After installing irrigation, the weeds thrived. I put down grass seed but that didn't do much. How do I convert my weed lawn to a grass lawn? Modern like, not pulling each and every weed.

waddup robots, I really want to switch my primary programming language to Ada because of its awesome ability to communicate with other languages, its faculties for embedded programming, and its stubborn ability to work as intended...
but there are fucking NO resources to learn it from
help me out here bros, scratch that programming itch and link me some stuff I can't use.

And its fucking beautiful, I prefer the words to random punctuation like C/C++ (my current).

ideally you would be able to look at the project and hardware to fit the language to the project, not the other way around.

go find the compiler standard or something

there is no random punctuation in C it is well defined and absolutely determined. you can replace whatever you want ask /g/ for some retarded preprocessor fun and games.

Shit there's alot of published documents about it.
Last i heard airplane dont use it anymore. Everything is c now.
Be interesting to see how useful it really is, but if it was it would also be popular.
I am trying to build/mod a briefcase like pic related so i can place any design. Any Ideas?

What did he mean by this?
I turned one of those into a bootleg soldering setup, and it hasn't burnt anything major yet.
