By my rough estimate, one teaspoon of Dawn dish detergent contains the detergent power of about a cup of shampoo or body wash or roughly 40x more grime cutting power. I happen to have about a gallon of Dawn from Costco that would last me several lifetimes were I to just use it for dishwashing. How do I homebrew my own shampoo and body wash using Dawn? I am assuming I need to cut the Dawn down with some kind of bulk or moisturizer or something of the sort. Can /diy/ help formulate me a recipe?

why not try just watering it down first and seeing how it goes

So I'm re-caulking the inside corners and around the tub (blue lines) because the caulk was getting moldy but as you can see there are two places where the inside corners meet the outside edge of the wall tile (red lines) which has perfectly good caulk.

I know caulking over old caulk is a big no no but I'd really hate to remove the caulk alongside the outside edge because that would ruin the paint. So I wonder if there is a high risk of moisture seeping in where blue meets red due to a bad bond should I choose not to remove all the caulk there or maybe it's all good since water should not be reaching that high anyway.

why are you here op?
you know what the options are, what the room is like, how messy you are in the shower, where the water goes.
do you really trust the opinion of an anonymous stranger over your own?

you will inevitably get two kinds of reply telling you to go either way. which one will you take and which will you ignore?

the truth is you already know what is the right way to do it and you already know what solution you are going to adopt, you are simply here to ease your conscience.

this is simply procrastination.
>>
>>1215491
IF and IF the shower was installed correctly, you don't need to seal any of those lines. There will be cement board and a moisture barrier behind it. The grout does the work of dispersing the water appropriately.

The only place to seal is the one you didn't mark: where the basin meets the floor of the bathroom. you don't want any seepage into that joint.
>>
>>1215491
u can use a anti mold spray on the moldy looking sealant or remove all blue line sealant + the bit on floor as already mentioned and re-seal. The join between the old sealant (red lines) and the new (blue) will be fine. Just make sure that basin to floor line is also sealed.

So I've been trying to build an electric skateboard this summer, but I'm running into a few problems in the final stages of the build. Long story short, the MOSFETs I bought worked to control the brushed DC motor, but blows up when it tries to move my weight. I've tried putting multiple ones in parallel but it still blows up. :/

The stall current for the motor is supposedly about 133 amps (Idk if it's really going that high), but the MOSFET can supposedly handle around 150 amps max. I've bought more MOSFETs from Ebay again which should be able to handle even more current, but I feel like that might not solve the problem.

What might be the problem? Thanks

Well if it's going bad when your on it, it could be that the load (motor) is creating a lot of heat to start turning. Maybe put on some heat sinks or try a similar motor. If nether work, try a different circuit design for your h-bridge
>>
>>1215411
I thought that too, but the MOSFET didn't feel hot at all after it blew up. I just heard a pop and it stopped working.
I'm actually just using a single MOSFET to control the motor, not a complete H-bridge. I need something simple to work before I make it more complex.

Note: I am using a flyback diode with the motor.
>>
Are your mosfets on heatsink? Normally mosfets need heatsink to stay at their rated amp draw for any period of time. Also the data sheet indicates that package limits the mosfets max current to 78A, see foot note 4. The new ones should work.
As for the motor, it will draw near stall current briefly while starting up. You can use the performance chart and table to estimate running current at various loads. Ofc if your fat ass is too heavy and stalling the motor you might need to add some gearing or belting for more torque at the wheels.

So /diy/

I've recently bought some new cupboards and storage shelfes and due to my configuration i got two shelffloors i have no exact use for.

Any idea what i can do with these boards? Sure, a hanging shelf would be one option, but maybe you've got a better idea, i would also welcome ideas for a shelf itself.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I got mi this Everest router - ewr-523n2, and I was wondering, if it's possible to set it up in the configuration I just draw in this picture.

It has LAN and WAN/LAN ports, so I was thinking I could connect it with a cable to the PC instead of having to install a wifi card on it.

I'm not a complete noob, have been building my PC's for 20 years, I just don't know too much about networks.

If it's possible, just tell me, I'll google for solution.
Thanks in advance.

Jesus christ.

In any case, since I can't be bothered to find spec sheets in English and on my phone, it will probably work that way, but those wall-plug repeaters have terrible reception from my experience. You'll need to connect the repeater to your wireless through whatever wizardry it requires, then connect the pc.

Also, this belongs in either QTDDTOT or /g/

I would like to get a screen on my wall, and hook it up with foobar2000 so that it displays album covers of the music I am playing, Preferably it would al be wireless. Any ideas?

>>
Get any tv made in the last 5 years. Hang it on the wall. Cast your music to it.
>>
If you can figure out a way to make foobar push the art over your network then you could use a Rapsberry pi running a digital signage distro and a cheapo HDMI screen (check the Chinese vendors).

Alternatively, use a WiDi adaptor with the aforementioned cheapo screen, connect it to your computer as a second monitor and display the album art window fullscreen on said screen.
>>
ssh into raspberry pi and just plug an hdmi into whatever you want to display it on and you can do whatever you want

What would case my left channel to stop working?

I have an old Bose Companion 2.1 sound system for my PC. It uses two satellite speakers connected via an RCA jack. Occasionally my right speaker would cut out, and I would jiggle the connection, and it would work again.

Now its volume output has been reduced by about 80% its very quite.

If I swap the leads around in the subwoofer, each speakers works fine, but right channel output is very weak.

If I slowly pull out on the 3.5mm jack I gain power in the right channel, but loose stereo.

I the woofer apart, but the boards are all glued together, so I cant get to the back of the jack.

Nor mater what else I jiggle I dont have right channel.

What would cause this? Repairable?

>Nor mater what else I jiggle I dont have right channel.

look at all solder joints and look for cracks. use a soldering iron to remelt the solder.

if that doesn't work it may be the output amplifier.
>>
your shit is all confused

>I would jiggle the connection, and it would work again.

which fucking connection? input or output?

>If I swap the leads around in the subwoofer,

what's thats supposed to accomplish? it's insane.

>If I slowly pull out on the 3.5mm jack I gain power in the right channel, but loose stereo.

this seems to be the most likely trouble spot. the 3.5mm jack is the most fragile part on this system. if you cant replace, then solder a new one in parallel and bring the wires out the back. maybe use a 1/4-inch jack for extra strength.

>I cant get to the back of the jack.

if you can get to some points on the PCB where the jack connects, then its all the same.
>>
>>1215083
Thanks.

I think it was the 3.5mm jack. I hooked my phone up directly to the back of the speaker and it seems to work fine from both speakers now.

But when I plug in a new cable that works off my phone to my PC I loose right channel.

Time to check on that end.

Thanks for pointing me in the right directions

Okay so I have a ~1.10 meters long concrete overhang over part of my balcony from which I would like to hang my gymnastic rings.

I would like for a solution that allows me to change the width between the rings fairly quickly/easily.

Most ready made solutions are quite expensive.

For now I have thought of the designs in pic related but I would like your input.

I'm from France BTW, so some hardware may not be as readily available here than in the US.

Do I really require permission for this ? I doubt I will cause any damage other than the drilling and it can easily be filled when I move.

>>1215044
Well, to be honest it is not in the middle of a metropolitan area, more of suburb in a smallish town. I made a mistake, it is 1.1m in width, more like 4m long.

>french
Can't argue with that.

>gymnastic rings on balcony
I don't really see the issue. But that may be because I'm french.

Why the H*CK didn't you search for lxw16-01??!?

Hey /diy/ long time lurker looking for feedback and discussion on battery powered junk, in particular my USB to 12v adapter that I made because from what I've read most on amazon overheat and stop working. Check out the penny heatsink and custom clamp.

I made it using only one USB input at first but the USB cable got pretty hot. Since the battery charger I'm powering (Nitcore i2) pulls 12 watts (1 amp 12 volts) I realized that means I'm pulling more than the USB cable was meant to supply (probably 1-2 amps 5 volts).

So now I have two USB cables which I can use either with my 21 watt USB solar panel or a multi port 110v>USB adapter (which is still preferable since the using 110v cable with the i2 directly creates dickloads of RF interference that locks up my laptops touchpad from feet away and causes a storm of false touches on my phones touchscreen when placed within 6 inches). I realize I could have used a thicker "supercharge" USB cable that does 25 watts by itself but I didn't have any broken ones laying around. Does this seem like a fire hazard or is it fine as is? The case will be vented.

Lets discuss other battery pack bullshit too. I just got a 26,800 mAh Anker powerbank for $40 bucks on prime day. Now I want to hook two together and add a 19 volt adapter (for my laptop) and an inverter. Can I rewire the batteries in each pack as 4S2P for 14.8 volt output for the inverter while leaving them also wired up as 2S4P 7.4v output for the USB circuit already on it? I'm having trouble figuring out if it'll cause problems. I appreciate any input and hope other people will share their ideas.

Would have been easier to just use an old laptop charger with a DC-DC stepdown (Assuming laptop output vdc > 12)
>>
>>1214826
Not sure I follow. The main point of this is to be able to plug in my universal battery charger (Nitecore i2 which requires 12v input) into my solar panel or USB battery bank (both have 5v USB output). Sorry if I was unclear. Using a laptop charger stepped down to 12v would be the same as using the original 110v input (maybe without the RF problem).

Turn your heat lamp off and don't let your place get above 80f. Keep the terrarium out of the sun and put it in a cooler part of the house. Any other solutions would probably need active cooling
