I have some serious issues with bright lights/sunlight. Walking around with sunglasses under welding goggles is pretty socially ostracizing(on the days it works).

I'd like to make some sort of headset that looks less psychotic and is overall more effective at dulling the light. I'm thinking two cameras each hooked to a small display so the video can be processed to cut down the flares and highlights. I'd have to go with some form of goggle or motorcycle helmet to hold the hardware. I know this sounds infantile, but it's the only thing I can think of. If anyone has any advice/input or alternatives I'm all ears. Thank you.

I have a virtually infinite supply of 2x6 6ft-8ft treated boards (work throws out 50-100 daily). I've already made a few planters for myself and dozens for family, I've made half a dozen picnic tables for myself and family. I'm out of ideas. What is some more stuff I should make?

Solve the world's fuel problem via charcoal, coke, and wood gasification.

With enough bolts/screws/nails you can make pretty much anything with that from houses to decks to well anything.

Anybody have some good pointers regarding making these? Mostly how to get those tiny details in.

I'm guessing that the snow in the pic provided is a separate concoction of clear resin and microbeads and the aurora borealis is a separate pigmented concoction added later and somehow mixed upwards

everyone's so fucking guarded about this shit when i was looking into it. theres a couple shitty english videos that everyone refers to, but i came across this russian guy's one that covers the process pretty decently even without understanding him.

We get this thread every few weeks, and no one seems to ever figure it out. Or at least, if they do, they certainly don't post their work here.

You might even get stuck trying to splinter wood in exactly that pattern.

You probably aren't going to get much help other than the basic vacuum chamber, heat gun business.

Since it seems like you have ideas already, just try them out and post results so we can record it for posterity

How do I sharpn this lil fucker? Its one of those saw discs for an anglegrinder.
It works great at first but gets super dull and starts catching/burning everything after few uses.
(peg for scale)

Also sharpening general I guess.

Why would you want a saw blade for an angle grinder?
>>
>>1206563
Sharpen it with side of thin grinding or cut-off wheel.

Try to keep all the teeth same, do not grind half of them to nothing. Also try to keep the geometry, remember that they are left and right teeth.

When you grind them to base metal, replace the wheel.

Having to piece together a transformer for a piece of equipment, all working fine but can't find any plastic project boxes or standard power supply housings to fit it. Any ideas? Was considering buying a chunky old laptop power adapter and gutting it but can find one thick enough.

Cheers, found a suitable box right after posting. Do you know where I can find a similar flex bracing as this to attatch to each end of the unit? Got different diameter cables each end, the link you provided might be a tad overkill. Can't seem to find the right thing on ebay, any idea what I should search for?

i plan to make myself a hobby case for miniature painting like the one in the pic.
so far i got the case but im unsure on about how i would fix the straps that would hold the paints in place, since the case is quite thin. i checked how the hinges on the case are fixed and found that they were either glued nor nailed. i will provide a pic of that below

What's the cheapest way to check whether somebody tried to open your door's lock?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
What type of lock?

If it's a regular tumbler lock, check for scratch marks, and other wear or tear
>>
>>1217710
Sit there all day and watch.
>>
>>1217710
Free: Throw some dust on the lock and door knob when you leave. When you return, use a torch to check it there's any streaks where the dust has been disturbed.

Very Cheap: use UV powder, it's very cheap on ebay; observe with a cheap UV torch (counterfeit currency detector) you can get both for less than $3. Much easier to see than regular dust.

Bit more expensive: get a $20-30 hidden camera which records to microSD and set it up either in the peep hole, or hidden in the door frame, ect. Review the footage at the end of the day. You could even get one which broadcasts to wifi and will send alerts and screenshots to your phone when it detects movement in a similar price range.

WATER HEATING.jpg

Hi all. Need some help see what you think.

Ok, i've set up some solar panels to heat pool water, through water polypropilene collectors, in two rows because of roof shape. Water comes out at 32Âșc wich is fine, but the fact is I have no idea what pressure I am working at and if all panels are being efficiently used.

I was considering placing two valves and pressure gouges at the exits of each set of panels (A and B), so that I can control more what is happening.

Any thoughts ??

>>
>>1217681
I would put balancing valves on the outlets and fiddle with them. generally, slowing the flow is going to get you hotter outlet temp but with diminishing returns the slower you go. also, watch the amp draw on the pump as you restrict the water flow so it doesnt get too high
>>
Thnx. That's the idea. The gauges would just be extras to know exact pressures.
>>
>>1217681
Why is the bottom row getting hotter than the top row?

bong here, plastering is a skilled job here requiring a perfect finish by hand, without needing to sand it down afterwards. plasterers here use a tan coloured plaster that is very hardy and doesn't sand down easily. its a pain in the arse to work with though and it needs years of practice in order to be proficient.

i have noticed in other countries they tend to just fix plasterboard to the walls and cover the gaps with white mud and sand it down to get a good finish. but i notice that this dents easily. nobody seems to do this in the UK opting for expensive plasterers instead.

i have polish friends who are happy to cover an entire wall in this white shit and sand the whole thing. what do you prefer and why?

USA here.

In my location we use drywall. Gaps are left between the panels of drywall so that the mud/spackle/plaster can have a better grip in the joints. Joint tape (a mesh-like reinforcing strip) is put on the joint. The plaster is smoothed out into the joint then taped then more plaster to make it as smooth as possible. All fastener heads are also plastered. The plaster and surrounding drywall gets 1 coat of paint then sanded until the joints are smooth. The 1 layer of paint is important so that the sandpaper doesn't rough up a fuzz off the drywall paper. When done, everything is either painted or wallpapered. The plaster is only ever applied to fastener heads and joints. Except ceilings. People fucking love slathering an entire layer of plaster on the ceiling then "stomping" it with some texture. It is fucking horrid and I want to strangle people for it.

Lathe and plaster is a lost art where I live. Lots of old houses have it, but nothing new is made that way. Everything new is pine lumber, fiberglass insulation, blue board Styrofoam, asphalt shingles, and drywall. It costs next to nothing to build a house with this contractor's Lego shit. The really old houses all used local hardwoods, cut stone, lathe and plaster, and slate roofing. Those cost more to build than the McMansions with the 2x4 pine wood skeleton and brick facade.
>>
I've done a lot of DIY and handyman shit OP, but only recently have I ever attempted internal plastering (internal corners and ceiling joints of all things).

That white shit is cheap and goes on easy, it also sands to a smooth finish relatively easy and with little talent. However, that shit is a fucking nightmare to clean up.

On a fine grit, that dust will creep under doors, up hallways, into any crevice or gap left exposed. It also tends to shrink a lot, so the general advice is to "mound" any application.

So, while the white shit is easy to put on and sand back, it's a bitch to clean. I guess the brown stuff may be harder to put on but require minimal finishing and therefore less clean up.

Kind of one of those things where you hold out both hands as though they contained roughly similar weights and imagined judging them.

>what do you prefer and why?

Contractors prefer sheetrock (plasterboard?) because any mexican can learn how to install it whereas proper plastering requires skill and training, and I would guess that the lath or whatever the plaster bonds to is more expensive and slower than sheetrock.

I worked with a guy like you described. He learned proper plastering in NYC and was painting with us. Once he skimmed an entire ceiling and told me that it would be ready to paint without any sanding. I laughed and said ok. When he was done I went up on a ladder to inspect it, and it was smooth as could be.

He was amazing. No ordinary sheetrock guy could do that.

When he was done, we got some ceiling white with a shot of black and painted it and it was perfection.

I'm making a custom light fixture/art piece and I need a sheet/film/whatever that is 100% opaque and highly reflective on at least one side. It doesn't need a mirror finish but it wouldn't hurt. Here are the basic requirements:

It needs to be fairly easy to work with. I have to cut curves in it and other stuff so glass and hard plastics are out.
It needs to be fairly durable. Aluminum foil won't work, I tried it already. It is not durable enough and it wrinkles too easily.
It needs to be able to withstand some heat from all the lights.
It needs to be glued/taped down without something weird happening to the film. Like bubbling, deforming, losing the finish, etc.

I looked into mylar film but it is all window treatment stuff so you can see though it, which I can't have. Same deal with that grow op stuff. I don't need a ton of it, maybe a square meter/yard of the stuff. Cheaper the better if it still gets the job done. Anyone have some suggestions?
