How can I quickly fix an inflatable boat?

In last years beer floating event I learned that duct tape is worthless for repairs. I'd like to have some emergency solution to fix my boat in case of emergency, but the proper repair kits tend to need up to 12 hours to dry.

How can I quickly fix a leaking inflatable to make it to the end of the day?

waterproof duct tape
>not even kidding
got a shitload of those repair kits (with use by date older than God - don't ask) INSTRUCTIONS SAYS:
Leave for 12 hours to dry (you correct enough)
EXCEPT in emergency, fine to use straight away.
Repair kits still probably the best things to use, seeing as how designed for this purpose, and all.

Hey /diy/ I need your help.

I've got a couple of old bong water stains in my carpet, what's the best way to get them out?

Any ultimate carpet cleaning products out there?

Already tried Resolve.

When mine was like that I just moved the furniture around periodically until the whole carpet had a cool pattern.
>>
>>1220090
That doesn't exactly work when you're selling the house.
>>
pro tip- buy a super nice shampoo vacuum from walmart. It comes with cleaner but maybe buy 1 more. Use it to clean your bong water filth. Return it to walmart and say it leaks. If they ask about the cleaner that came with it, you used it obviously and it leaked.

A thunderstorm induced a blackout last night and 5 of my biggest fish in my AP system died due to the airpump failing.
I have a backup pump that runs on 12vdc. My idea was to use an arduino to detect if the main pump was working. I wanted to use a air pressure sensor in the airpump piping. Now i was wondering if there was a solution to detect if a 240vac device is working. Some kind of failswitch maybe?

>detect if a 240vac device is working.

To detect presence of 240 vac is easy with a relay that pulls a pin low when power is present. But to detect proper operation something like your pressure sensor or an air flow sensor would be better. You could make a homemade switch that dangles in the air flow and is blown shut when air flow is present.
>>
>>1219990
>is blown shut when air flow is present.

On second thought it would be easier and more reliable to use gravity to close the contacts and have the air flow open them. Just some sort of lightweight flapper that doesn't restrict the flow very much.

Dafuq you talking about? Just use an optoisolator, you don't even need an arduino.
Use a bridge rectifier and a capacitor to smooth the AC signal to avoid rattling.

Sup fellas
I'm leaving for college in a few days and wanted to know if there was some el cheapo way to make it look like my desktop was locked down with Kensington locks. Don't really want to shell out the $50 in locks for my PC and 2 monitors, plus that doesn't do anything about my keyboard or other equipment.

3d print some fake ones. Or even make real ones. Nobody will know that they are made of plastic if you paint them well.
>>
>>1219861
And a fake one will do something about your keyboard and equivalent?

You'd spend more than $50 in time, paint, materials and effort to make a convincing fake, you may as well just stop being so fucking poor and buy one.

hey /diy/, i got my hands on a lil turbo and im thinking about slapping it on my old bike because living is for scrubs. my only concern is that the exhaust size for the turbine is much too small, but it came off of a diesel with 2 extra cylinders and over a liter more displacement so would it really matter for my application?

>my bike
400cc inline twin making 45hp and 10k redline with one 1.5" pipe per cylinder

>parent engine
1500cc inline 4 diesel making 55hp at 3k

>turbo
ihi rhf4
64mm compressor / 32mm turbine
up to 332 cfm air flow (bike would suck about 150 cfm max with boost)
max 2.7 pressure ratio (about 40 psi, i would do like 7 max)
rated for 60-175hp gas engines

Didn't see /sqt/ in the catalog, but then again I assume that's what 90% of this board is about

Bought a large mirror off Craigslist, want to hang it in a hallway to give my apartment a roomier feel. It looks like the previous owners just used absurd amounts of putty, but I'm not sure I want to do that, for the sake of the mirror and the wall.

What would be a good way to mount a flat pane of mirror? There's no frame or anything on it.

That's pretty typical. Plenty of large dots of adhesive. You could use a rail on the bottom and top/sides if you want it to be removable.

Put a frame on it. Attach the frame to the wall by securing it to the studs.

I have this stainless exhaust system. How can i clean up the header to make it shine like the rest of the system. It seems to be burnt or dirt or roadtar stuck to it making this so difficult. Ive tried using steel wool with minimal results and 220 grit sandpaper seemed to work but takes forever. Is there a better way to do this?

Also general metal finishing tips

She's pretty fucked mate. Its going to take a long time to get it back to polished. If you had some very specific tools like a Dynabrade or a railing polisher belt sander it would be easier but I think you are kinda stuck. I'd get the bitch blasted and ceramic coated.
>>
Bead blast then polish.
>>
>>1219787
>>1219786
Hoping i wasnt going to have to take it anywhere to get blasted. Ill mount it as is if this is the case though i didnt pay enough for it to spend real money on making it look nice. Might try a brass wheel on an angle grinder and see if that can cut through it easier.

> Changing roof of house

There is a property that needs gutted entirely and I'd like to change the roof pitch/shape/whatever you wanna call lit (pic related) to (pic related).

I see that the large beams can be LVL or some sort of metal. What would you do for something like this?

The current house is just a simple rectangle with a rectangle attached garage. How hard would it be to add the slant to the roof due to the current structure being flat?

The house is relatively small < 1000sq ft.

Anyone have experience or heard of anyone doing something like this?

>>
>>1219633
I own several properties and I remember a friend in the business trying this. If you do it, for goodness sake hire a structural engineer and/or a licensed contractor to do it/verify your work. He hired a guy without checking his credentials on a whim and the guy installed it improperly and a good wind caused the new roof to collapse and kill the contractor. Dude wasn't bonded/insured so my bud is in hot water trying to get out of the market asap.

Just be safe.

Hello /diy/,

I am hoping someone has an answer for me.
I'm looking to color my glasses frames with fingernail polish and top coat, instead of going out and buying a brand new pair.
If I give it a couple coats and ample time to dry, will this work?
Any thoughts?

pic very related.

>>
>>1219605
You will get uneven coating, ruin the glasses, and probably damage your eyes if you insist wearing them.
>>
>>1219606

Why do you say that?
They will be dry so its not like theyd still have fumes.
>>
>>1219605
fingernail polish is specifically made to be easily cleanable
not a good choice
I tried it many times, it won't last on surfaces that are actively used

could it be done with gasoline power? like that guy who was going to use a motorcycle engine? It seems that there's no inherent limit to drone capacity in terms of load or flight time; look at a sky crane and use your imagination.

it seems that /diy/ has too many people who just don't think like pros anymore.

A second wrench of the same size.
>>

I've always wondered the same thing and I've been wrenching for years. Why would you need two wrenches for one bolt?

Most of the automotive repair I've seen either has the other part welded, restrained, or the threads are machined into the engine block or whatever.
