So I want to make the gun bag from the mummy to hold my shit but I don't have a clue or experience with working with leather or even sewing or cutting fabric

What are some resources I can use to learn how to make a all leather tool roll out bag from scatch?

>>
Also what are your experience in making leather bags if any of you made some?
>>
I learned how to sew from Sewing for Dummies. I would read that and practice on cotton muslin. There's some differences from sewing leather, but the basic techniques are still the same. It looks like the main bag material is made from canvas, in any case.

It probably is but I don't know shit about it

will give it a read thanks

This seems like the fucking coolest job ever. Are there any lineman on /diy/? I definitely have the passion for the job, but so far, I'm having a hard time getting my foot in the door.

What type of contractors should I be seeking out? Should I be going through the union or the power companies directly? Or sub contractors?

Hello! I've worked with wood a lot but want to try something new.... Plastic! I know I can get a hot air plastic welder and some sheets easily. I know the actual act looks easy....but.... How can I tell how strong a weld will be?

I want to make an outlet cover to hold a phone and something to hold my PS3 on the wall. I want to make sure the PS3 won't just fall off the wall or give from heat. Help?

Pic unrelated.

Plastic welding is good for superficial and cosmetic work . I wouldn't expect it to support a load reliably.
>>
There's tons of commercial brackets that are plastic.... How can I make those? Perhaps welding is the wrong word.

Are you perhaps looking for 3D printing?

Hey everyone, recently I have seen some of these sweet blanks used for making pens and knives. I've watched some YouTube videos on how to make them and it seems reasonable. Has anyone made these before I'd love some pointers on the process. Also id like you input on where to find the best places to buy the wood the correct wood to use for these . Sorry if I'm asking to much.

Making the blanks, or making the pens? My father in law makes pens, knives, etc. like this on a lathe. Do you have a lathe?

If you look up 'pen blanks', should be some kind of supplier, generally they're in a 20-30mmsq x 120-150mm long

So if you restrict the flow of a fluid, pressure increases, yeah? Theoretically, how small does the hole have to be to make a garden hose cut steel? What's the practical limitation here, what explodes first? Would this work if the hose and fittings were indestructible?

Oh and I know water jet CNC machines have grit or sand in them but whatever, let's just assume that doesn't matter.

>>
In the words of someone who has no idea what they are actually talking about; Pressure can only build until it busts. You'll eventually get to a point of restriction where you can't force it through any faster without destroying something. You can't just use a garden hose, but you can hook a garden hose to a pressure washer and disable the safety switch to possibly do it.
>>
>>1226762
no, the opposite.
you apply pressure to water, the resistance determines the flow.
at the maximum resistance (you covering the hole completely) the water in the pipe can only match, not exceed, the pressure it is under from whatever pump or tank is the source.
thats why you need a pressure washer to add pressure to the water and why your taps don't explode when you turn them off.

pressure exerts force per area, you can calculate the force on your fittings for a given pressure and then check that they can cope by doing other maths and shit with all stress and strain and material properties.
you can also calculate the pressure of a column of water and how tall a tank you will have to build to get a gravity fed supply up to pressure to cut metal (hint: its pretty high)

How would you store fabric?

>>
I have a home business with fabric involved. I'm a big DIYer, but can't decide best way to store fabric and make it accessable. I can't put them in drawer standing cause they will find on itself. And if I build shelf it will need like 40 shelves, 1 for each color.

go to one of those fabric stores. they are great places to meet women, by the way, as compared to bars.

storing fabric requires a lot of room or an elaborate filing system that tells you that blue suede is at or about level 74 in stack 139.

Ah, that's good news - could someone please show me where those three pins go to? The schematic PDF is under documentation here: https://store.arduino.cc/usa/proto-shield-rev3-uno-size

The documentation says they can be accessed on the "connector pads"...?

Hey /diy/, first time homeowner. Anyways, part of my house has these old stained/leaded glass windows. The bay they're in needs to be reframed but until I get to that point I'd like to seal up these openings that have come from the window shifting. Can I just fill them with glazing putty for a temporary fix?
I've got a friend that works with glass for a living who's going to refit them when we do the reframe and just want to make sure that I don't do anything that will make her job more difficult. I can't really remove them right now either so I'm just looking for a band-aid fix for a month or two.

I want to have a small toolbox or bag that has the tools necessary for your average around the house repairs. This would be useful for when I visit relatives or have something unexpected go wrong at work.

What tools would you guys recommend? Weight is not a concern, but size is.

I'm thinking:
Multitool with knife, pliers and screwdriver bits. e.g. Ganzo or Leatherman
Crescent wrench
Sidecutters
Small DMM like a Uni-T 136B or Fluke 106
Permanent marker
Tape measure
Electrical tape
Cyanoacrylate glue
Small flashlight, like SK68
Zip ties
Set of different screws and nails

>Set of different screws and nails

then include a hammer and a small, medium, and large phillips and flathead screwdriver. The Leatherman has those but real screwdrivers work way better. If you don't have room for real screwdrivers I'd skip the spare screws.

throw in a few wire nuts of various sizes, and maybe an assortment of crimp connectors and a crimper.

Needle nosed pliers can be handy.

A magnifying glass with a protective cover can be handy. pic related says "illuminated" but that's not usually needed.

The permanent marker is a good idea that lots of guys don't think is that important, but in a pinch you can use it to add a shot of black to just about anything.

Hey /diy/,

I was thinking about making a binary watch for a long time now, but had no way of actually making one. Now that I have access to some tools and have some spare cash for parts I want to actually build one. However, I want to make it truly something else, so I thought I'd make it use small cylinders, around a milimeter in diameter, popping up out of watches' surface (a milimeter or two at most) to mark a bit being 1 instead of zero.

Now how would I do it at such small scale? Magnetic coils? The cylinders would be pretty light, but I fear that magnetic solution would fuck with the microcontroller ( because fuck building binary adders from scratch) and drain battery fast. Is there some elegant mechanical solution here? I realize it's a high order, so to make it a bit more probable I'd probably settle for some other shape with bigger surface. I wouldn't want to increase the travel height though, the watch it's already going to be pretty thick, I think.

Pic semi related, it'll probably be me when I actually sit down to do this.

Why not compromise and make a desk clock?
Coils would be an easy solution with that.
>>
>>1226332
This will be vain but I kinda want to show off. I didn't use to wear watches in the past, but I want to stop using my phone to check time. Also I think being able to read binary on the fly is a neat, albeit useless skill, and having a binary watch would be a great learning tool.

I'll probably build a desk clock too at some point. But it's more or less useless for me right now

Any idea how are these large outdoor stainless steel sculptures are made? It has lots of irregular shape and curves. It doesn't look like it began with a plain sheet metal. It doesn't look like it was cast from a mold either. I can't get my head around this and don't know how to find out.

Usually lost wax with a high grade ceramic slurry. How it's made shows some on the outboard motor episode.

Surface finish is almost perfect and you can make almost any shape.

Long story short I had bad damp due to the front garden being higher than the DPC and it was half covering the airbricks.

So I dug a trench around the front bay and used one of theminjection kits(which I got told is shit),pointed all the brick work at the bottom knocked the render of on the in side (old British house) used a dehumidifier for weeks and boarded
and skimmed it.

Today the outside wall looked damp slightly and so does the inside.
Even though the whole garden hasn't been dug up the I don't think rain/water would of raised so high.

>so now I'm thinking of buying and exterior water proofed ?

>Some one told me to buy a stabiliser and some one else said use bitumen.

I've found these what one do you think I should use ?

Not sure if this is the right board or I should try like /an/ or something, but what is your opinion on natural farming?

I've been looking into things like natural farming and permaculture to be able to have a nice self sustaining farm without weighing myself down too much with a mountain of chores and equipment costs.

It also seems kind of hokey though at the same time, I'd like to hear some opinions on it from people other than sources already completely supporting it.
Because
>no tilling
>no fertilizing
>no weeding
>etc
Sounds like it wouldn't work as well as it should.

You still weed. Tilling destroys the natural components that aerate, fertilize and build your soil. Adding fertilizers (salts), salinates your soil and kills the microbes; once you start using fertilizer, you have to keep adding it or rebuild your soil populations.

Check out Teaming With Microbes by Jeff Lowenfells, wish I had read it years ago when I first started gardening. And the gardening threads on /out/ are a great resource. My best advice, take the first step, no matter how small. If you over plan it nothing will ever happen.
