Howdy /diy/

I'm an american abroad in the Philippines. I have access to a prime place to put a vending machine, but the cost to buy one is way too high. The company based here doesn't even sell them, they rent them. And alibaba doesn't have prices I can afford.

So, I wish to build one. It doesn't need to be high tech, a 70s Era low tech style would be fine. But that's up to the brain trust to tell me.

My budget is roughly 50k php (1000usd) and anything I can buy off lazada or just locally. The frame and glass and generals like that I'll have fabricated to order in one of the many metal shops.

Anyone have any idea where to look to build one of these?

To add, I'd love to have atleast a 5x5 shelves. More is better, but I'll let experts tell me whats what. I'd be selling anything that can fit in the spiral racks. Chips candy napkins etc etc
>>
Anything you make will not be durable and will be broken or broken into easily.
Don't buy a new one find some one selling a used one and just clean it up. Also why not just rent it? Less liabilty for you and less start up money.

Hi,
I need to transmit vision in real time (or as close as it could be) form RC vehicle to the "base". Max. distance between base and vehicle would be 1km, it would travel at 10km/h at max. I need to put there 3 cameras, one, if it's possible, in HD.
Even if HD one will be digital there is no need for that in the rest of them.
I would like to ask you for some advice on this problem, any solution will be nice, I don't mind industrial devices and those which would use
amateur bands or wi-fi.
I've googled it, but it would give me resaults that does not work well on this ranges (up to 1km).

What is the best type of bike to convert into an e-bike that maximizes speed.Road bikes look a bit uncomfortable and too fragile to convert, should i go with a bmx or a mountain bike?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
it's a form over function decision i guess, the bmx looks cool but is much slower because of the size of the wheel. Btw i know nothing about bikes so educate me plz
>>
xc mtb frame + fox 40 downhill fork master race.

Speed is usually just a function of battery pack voltage, the kv of the motor, and overall reduction. It's easy to go fast.
The 'magic' in a good ebike is all in the reduction method, having a full suspension frame, gusseted headset area, and good hyrdaulic brakes.

The only benefit a bmx has going for it is smaller tires which give more mechanical advantage than larger wheels. You'll find some folks run a 20" rear wheel for more torque and a 26" up front paired with a mtb fork.
>>
>>1228135
BMX are for shitlords, not comfortable for long term use, only good for doing tricks. If you want to go fast that's literally what road bikes are made for, full carbon-fibre or fibreglass, no extras, and extra aerodynamics. They are in no way fragile unless you're cutting chunks out of the frame, and most bike peripherals are strapped on or screwed on anyway, so there probably won't be any frame modification unless you go for an in-frame motor. But they are brittle and will shatter instead of bending like a steel or Al frame, which is why mountain bikes aren't made from fibre composites often.

>>1228160
Sounds good if he's zipping in between trees, but for going speedy he'll want something with narrow or smooth tires, which look pretty shitty on a dank MTB.

Assuming he'll be on the road, an Al frame, front-suspension only if you plan on going on gravel, touring bike/hybrid bike is probably the way to go. You'll have to weigh the motor options, whether you go frame-motor (unlikely) or hub motor (likely) or externally mounted with hose-clamps motor (if you're a third world scrub), battery options (don't blow yourself up by pulling too many amps) and control options by cost and effectiveness.

I'd recommend asking relevant questions on a /n/ bike or e-bike thread, but don't buy into their "steel frame single speed" bullshit unless you're some kind of hipster. /n/ is a pretty good place for bicycle expertise provided you don't fall for their memes. Also don't be a namefriend unless you really have to, especially with a creatively bankrupt name such as "NIGGABOY". Nobody cares who you are unless you really have a name for yourself, and even then you don't see bunkerbro with a name (he bought a massive underground military bunker to refurbish or something).

Hey /diy/. I am getting into blacksmithing as a hobby to make knives mainly but also to do projects around my property. I have tried to read as much as I can and am starting out on the cheap. My plan is to only put a few $$ into it at first and then slowly but surely start building up my tools & supplies. I was wondering if I could get some input.

So far I have a 2 lb hammer and an anvil shaped object. I asked a guy at work about cutting a section of I-beam so I could use it as an anvil. I had planned to turn it on its side and then weld a 1 1/2 to 2 inch plate to the top to give it the most support(right?). Well he "did me a favor" and welded some supports on it for me and while I do like it, it's not quite what I had planned. I am grateful tho as I was taught to not look a gift horse in the mouth and have decided to make do. Thoughts on this ASO and ways to improve it?

I figure I do need something like a horn on it so my plan is to weld these two pieces of steel(pardon the blurry pic) together & then grind them down to a rounded shape on top leaving it flat on the bottom. Then welding it to the top to act as a horn for drawing out material. This thing IS heavy. weighs about 100 lbs.
>>
>>1228026
I think I will also be welding a couple of supports towards the back to keep it from flexing & give it a little more mass.

Hullo /diy/, I got an interview for an apprentice plumber position and it's tomorrow.

I just turned 20, never done plumbing, and have been custodial for the past year and a half.

Could you please give me some advice on how to ace the interview?

It's a private company, what should I expect from working there?

>Could you please give me some advice on how to ace the interview?
Be confident, but don't lie about your skills and abilities. Show that you have least have some working knowledge of plumbing (just google some shit, especially basic home repairs), have a bright and positive attitude, even when revealing your shortcomings of having 0 working experience, and a willingness and interest to learn. If you're handy around the house, use that as a perk; tell them you do a lot of /diy/ stuff and generally learn by watching youtube vids and having it work. Give examples so they know your skill level.

>It's a private company, what should I expect from working there?

Hey /diy/

Bought a pair of fairly good headphones Sony MDR V6 and the jack snapped

1. What jack should I buy to replace it with keeping the sound quality.

2. What do I need to be aware of when replacing the jack?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1227856
it's a plug, you plug that into a jack

you need a 3.5mm stereo plug / TRS plug / 3.5mm male plug.

anything you get off ebay will be fine sound quality wise.

you will need to burn off the insulation and sand the burned insulation off to get a good solder connection.
>>
>>1227856
Dunno if there is any way to be sure which jack is good. It's all chincrap. I was chinked exactly in same way once with silver jack. Try golden but no sure. There is even no way to solder the tip, cause of plastic.
>>
>>1227856
And i guess it will be better to use jack from wire like extention 2x jack wire. Those for amateur soldering are shit as you see.

Hi,

I have a Panasonic TX-L50BLW6 LCD LED television that stopped working properly.
Upon turning the device on, the screen blinks once, before turning very dim briefly and thereafter turning black completely.

The power LED shows a 1 blink error code.

I found the image above. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it possible to repair it?

I had a tv that used cheap caps with minimum specs. Went through 2 main board swaps under warranty. After warranty I just replaced caps in the relevant area with higher quality and higher ratings. a dollar and some change, just replacing 2 caps and no problem for several years after.
A surround sound system had a bad oscillator feed into voltage regulator and whatnot in an that wasn't designed to cool properly, had to replace a couple of components when it was a few years old.

Hello /diy/
I'm building a case for a vintage saxophone right now. The case per se is not that difficult, but I was wondering if you could help me with the interior design of the case. Usually it's fitted to form. I tried to create a formfitting shell by using plaster on the sax, wrapped in cling film. Suffice to say, it didn't work out.

posted this on /o/ but no one responded because its not a corvette vs gtr shitpost:

car took a shit while driving yesterday in the middle of the road, had to push it out of the way and luckily i had a trailerbro who was able to come pick it up. it was in the middle of an intersection and it just started sputtering and then died and wouldnt turn over.
before he came i did as much diagnosis as i could to see if i could find the issue
>checked for spark to the dizzy which i had
>checked related fuses which were ok
>listened for the pump to prime which it didnt but its possible the pump doesnt prime with the engine hot
>should have had about 3 gallons of gas left but i put 2 more in just in case but it didnt help
>tried to find the pump relay but its behind a fucking b pillar or some shit according to the manual
so he picked me up and dropped it off and i went to bed. i just went out there 30 minutes ago and used a little 12v 5ah battery to power the pump directly. i ran it backwards for about 30 seconds or so (on accident while trying to figure out the polarity), then i undid the last fuel line before the rail and ran it correctly to purge the air and hooked it back up, ran it off the battery again and it fired right up but ran rough like it was before it crapped out, hesitating and popping a lot and sounding like its only running on 4 out of 6 cylinders. i let it run until the temp started to show and went back and undid the battery and plugged it back into the harness and the pump was working and the engine smoothed out and revved up like normal. i turned if on and off a few times and unplugged and replugged the pump to see if anything changed but it runs just fine like it used to now.

im so fucking confused and have no idea what i could have possibly fixed and how to make sure it stays fixed. any ideas?

A clog in a fuel injector which cleared up because of all the fuckery with the pump?
>>
>>1227800
>
possible, i was actually thinking that the fuel sock on the pump got clogged with sediment and running it backwards made the fuel it sucked back push it off the sock
>>
Could have been poor electrical connection, messing with battery is potential fix. Also could have had less gas than you though and just ran air through the lines, sounds like issue cleared up after adding fuel and troubleshooting the pump.

I would check fuses and connections for corrosion, consider using dielectric grease on any connections exposed to the elements. Also consider changing your fuel filter as it could be causing flow issues.

Additionally I would check your intake for any leaks between the Maf sensor and the lower intake manifold gasket. A leak may cause your engine to run lean. Your car will idle rough or even stall and be unresponsive to throttle.

I had a poster hanging on my (plasterboard, paimted) wall, held by scotch tape at the corners, holding up fine for about 10 years. Now I moved, and I have wooden walls (pic related).
They have been treated but not painted or varnished as far as I'm aware. They're pretty smooth though (definitely miles smoother than the paint from my previous walls). However, my newly erected poster fell down within 48 hours.

What's the best way to hold it up? I don't really want to screw/nail things into the wall if I can avoid it.

Sup /diy/

Is it or is it not okay to vent a bathroom exhaust through the soffit?

While upgrading our master bath, I found that the exhaust fan had zero duct work. It was just blowing wet air into the insulation.

I live in a townhome, and don't want to fuck with the approval process that'll be required if I cut through the roof or wall.

I've read some people say it can backfire and cause condensation in the winter - but I live in Tennessee, so that's a pretty short window.

>Is it or is it not okay to vent a bathroom exhaust through the soffit?

What does the building code say in your area?

>While upgrading our master bath, I found that the exhaust fan had zero duct work. It was just blowing wet air into the insulation.

Extremely common. Generally, the people that install the fan are electricians. They put in the fan and then bugger off. You are lucky if they even tell the GM that they did the work and that ducts need to be run. They expect someone else to come in and run the ductwork because that isn't their job. What is worse is when they DO run the duct work. 90% of the time they fuck it up.

>I live in a townhome

So, you rent? Is it a condo or something? What has it being a "townhome" got to do with anything? It is just a style of housing and tells us nothing about what you can and can't do with the place. It is like saying "I live in a bungalow" or "I live in a McMansion".

>don't want to fuck with the approval process that'll be required if I cut through the roof or wall.

And yet they will let you tear into a soffit?

>I've read some people say it can backfire and cause condensation in the winter

It can. So can a wall vent if it is too close to the soffits. Another issue is mold. Moist air that is blown into a shady soffit will cause mold. You can also have problems if you have soffit 'roof vents', as the air can get pulled up into the attic. A roof vent is the best way to go overall but it can also be the most expensive.

>Codes
First time home owner. Didn't even think to look, as everything else I've done is cosmetic.

>Common
That's terrifying, but makes a lot of sense.

>Townhome
I own - but because it's a town home the HOA carries the insurance and handles maintenance on anything exterior, including the roof which is shared across four homes. More over, a vent constitutes a cosmetic change to the exterior, requiring approval.

Really bring the whole "I own" thing into question.

>Soffit
It'd run off the back of my house, over my covered deck, so no one would ever notice or care if they did.

>Mold
Well fuck me. Guess I don't have an alternative.
>>
>>1227733
TN climate, likely you are fine just adding a 1 foot or so piece of semi-rigid duct from the exhaust of the fan, so that it makes it blow into the open attic, just above your insulation.

In the summer it's hot enough that it'll mix in the attic air that's even hotter to drop the relative humidity enough to not matter, and likely the fan exhaust once heated would be less humid than the rest of the attic air.
In the winter, low relative humidity, should absorb it just fine.
In the attic, it's acting as a buffer so that you don't end up with a quick transition that would allow condensation easily.

Anyone ever asks, that's how it's always been.
I'm not sure if it's still allowed, but it was done like that for a very long time

I had a similar problem with a PS3 controller charger, I burned off the insulation but using sand paper might work as well, depending on how thick the wire is. If you do burn it off then be careful about the smoke, I don't know if it's toxic, but best to be careful.
