so i need a speaker like pic related. if you know of one thats bigger, cheap and loud and a tube reccomend me otherwise heres the plan: so i could build one of these puppies buit ive never built a speaker before. i need adequate sound quality and it has to be a tube because im re skinning it to look like a soda can idk what parts i need or how to put it all together any /diy/ bros want to school me on how i can go about this. like i said decent size cuz its supposed to be an enlarged soda can but i need loud enough sound for out doors, few hours battery life and i would prefer to keep it no more than $50. i can fluctuate as necessary but that is ideal thanks dudes

Well, I don't know much about actual speakers themselves, but I know you can get cheap Chinese boards that already have everything you need to make a BT speaker. Most of them that I've seen also come with a charging circuit for lithium batteries. For the body, I'd suggest PVC pipe. The ends would best be 3d printed. You can find models of soda cans online. Just cut off the too and bottom in whatever program and scale them to fit the tube. You could also add whatever connectors you need like power, aux in, buttons, and holes for lights. Pretty easy project that I've been thinking about myself.

yeah the body will be no trouble im just worried about how to hook up speakers themselves to work
>>
also OP here, i dont need bluetooth or any of that jazz just an aux hookup is fine

Called to get it serviced, guy stopped leak from cartridge valve or whatever.
Old tank has no fucking gauge.
What is the best and cheapest modern tank to get these days with a gauge?
Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. fucking hell man

hook up a pressure guage (mbar/small freedom increments) under the tank its easy maths to figure out level and afterwards just write the % in 10% increments on the guage

Any of you fags have any experience with radio astronomy and/or detecting meteor scatter. I am building a simple dipole antenna to detect meteor scatter (radio waves bouncing off meteor trails). Is a dipole going to be enough to detect a 750kW 143Mhz signal that has to travel around 1200km or am I going to have to build a Yagi antenna and amplify my signal ?

>>
>>1107929
Amateur radio operator here, albeit only a foundation license and new to the hobby.

People into meteor scatter and VHF/UHF in general use yagis, I would honestly get one or make one.

Why 143mhz? What signal do you expect to hear? Go up to 144mhz and you're into the amateur 2 metre band you might be able to hear the occasional signal from MS, tropospheric ducting and maybe even auroral.

What do you want to do and listen to exactly m8.
>>
>>1107954
GRAVES system in France (military radar or smth) is at 143MHz, I'm not looking for anything interesting just something far away powerful enough to bounce off meteors. I intend to measure ZHR (rate of meteors per hour) with such a system, i'm not into establishing a radio connection with someone. I could try 144Mhz or 50Mhz if this fails, but GRAVES is pretty powerful (750kW !) it should work fine
>>
>>1107954
I'm wondering is dipole(an antenna with no amplification) enough to pick up such a signal, or I need to ramp up my gear and construct a Yagi antenna (I will definetly do this in the future but the Perseids shower is tomorrow and I already prepared all the gear )

What's the best way of removing paint from glass?

I recently sprayed a picture frame, but since it contained an old tapestry the entire back was sealed up. I didn't want to tear the whole thing apart, I covered the glass before spraying. You can just put together a few pieces of palette wood, write those words on it, add some picture-frame wire on the back, and charge 20 bucks.

>find 4 benchtop motors in a estate sale and get them for $2 a pop
>have fixed 2 of them
>the 3rd runs ok so im using it for now
>working on the 4th currently
>its an old GE washing machine motor
>like pic related
>take it apart for cleaning
>swap out the power cord because exposed metal on power cord wires are something i dont like
>clean out all the gunk
>put it back together
>fire it up and it runs fine
>check online and see what i should use for lube on the bearings
>interwebs and /diy/ says 10w-30 motor oil is fine
>dribble some in
>go to eat supper
>come back down and put the mounting legs on
>test it one more time
>motor hums but dose not spin
>can turn it without a load on but can not turn it by hand under load

Da fug happened to my $2 motor?

Got a soild 1/2 HP (pre WW2 as best i can tell) emmerson, 1/3 HP 1950's - 1960's craftsman and a 1910(ish) 1/4 hp westinghouse motor out of the estate sale.

I rewired the emmerson because it had a suicide special wiring job. the i put a new power cord on the craftsman because the old one was cracking. The westinghouse is the next one im gonna work on.

Not really ticked about being out $2. but i had to have done something to screw up the GE motor and my pride demands i unscrew it.

The only thing that i did to it aside from clean the gunk and give it some fresh paint was put the 10w-30 for bearing lube. but i had several people tell me thats what they use all the time on their benchmotors.

Just sounds like your motor windings shorted out and died.. Probably was already shorted. Did you smell a horrible plastic smell?
>>
>>1106915

it hums and there is some smoke that comes up. I thought it was the oil. smells like the stuff model train guys use for the engines that put out puffs of smoke.

If i had gotten a drop on the windings could that have cause the issue?
>>
>>1106918
Why would a drop get on the windings? Motors that are meant to be oiled have oil pots. You shouldn't get oil anywhere near the windings. Are you saying you have been manually adding oil to standard ball bearings?

Ive been reading up on UV light but I dont see anything about it removing oils or chemicals, just killing and inactivating bacteria.

Im seeing a ton of guides for removing water from gas but not the other way around. So far people suggested charcoal filters and absorbing it from the surface with pads. Though i wonder if we should be putting them in the hot water heater as well.

Was also checking out scum absorbing balls normally used in pools. If anyone is more familiar with any of these setups let me know

It's not practical. It would be cheaper to fill the well in and dig somewhere else.
>>
are you the same guy that dumped degreaser down the well hoping it would clean it up? you're gonna need to dig a new one
>>
Look up oil absorbing sheets, they're made of a material that is oleophilic but hydrophobic and soak up gasoline really well.

I have this Vitamin C shower cartridge.

The Inserts containing Ascorbic Acid are permanently sealed.

I want to find a small probably plastic/nylon etc screw which I can use to plug a small hole I drill into the smaller Orange inserts to refill with C Powder so i don't have to keep buying them..

Anyone know of a resource for small threaded non metal set screw type parts?

My water supply uses chloramine to treat the water .. the chlorine dries my skin making it itchy

Ascorbic Acid redacts with Cl and creates Chloride

Hello /diy/
Yesterday while i was playing the guitar, some strange noise/hiss/pop appeared on lead channel. It's not relevant to preamp gain because it's present in spite of setting gain on 0. Rhythm channel is absolutely quiet. I swapped tubes around - no noticeable change. I've also tightened tube sockets - no change. Might it be some dead capacitors in signal chain or what else?

I had a similar issue with a crate 212gfx and couldn't figure it out for a while. I figured a cap was shot. None looked bad, i didn't have anything to test them with. Long stort short, i cleaned the pots and the noise went away. The onboard effects thing was pretty much shot since i got it, and it fixed that too. Also, I used wd-40 to clean them, despite not wanting to because it attracts dirt. But i read some shit on the internet and some people swore by it, and i had already gotten a different amp so figured fuck it.
>>
>>1105974
O and by "similar issue" i meant noise one channel, not the other. Gain setting at 0. Just got worse and worse until i stopped using it. I assume more pots were getting dirty (it's like + 20yrs old).

could have at least used the propah wd40, if you cant afford deoxit, or whatever.. ;)
i actually use some cheap crap, cant remember name, does fine tho - wd40 (ordinary) fine for emergency/temp quick fix/you want fix 1 or 2 pots, thats it - but, if its something you gaf about, may as well use a residue free specialist cleaner, otherwise, wd40 etc. will gunk it up, eventually.

You want it to be hard or just have this frame of metal?
If you want to have just the frame then I'd say go for savotta
http://finn-savotta.fi/en/kategoriat/bags/

I was going for the LJK when I was buying one as I used it in the army but I'm glad I didn't as it's too big. Even the 906 I got is usually too big for one weekend. But they are durable as shit and they have that sound of forest when there is a slight squeak ad the straps slightly move on the frame. Some people hate it, I love it!

But I bought mine 2002 and it's still going strong. Making a good backpack is hard and I bet you aren't going to find useful resources for that here as the main thing with one of these is comfort. You need outdoorspeoples to help you on that. Your backpack needs to be adjustable in the correct places to actually work. I have tweaked the fit on my during the years and also depending on the load of the backpack.

HVAC problems. The thing wont shut off.

I called HVAC company, they said they wont diagnose it because the system is dirty (2 year old system). Cleaning is not covered under insurance, so they wanted 1000 to clean it. Told them to fuck right off. They countered with 500. I said I'll think about it. But they will fix it when it gets clean.

Mother calls HVAC company #2 and gets them to "clean" it for 120 bucks. They said there was nothing wrong with the system and it wasnt even that dirty.

Call company#1 back up and say "Here you go, fuckheads, we cleaned it. Now replace the broken parts" They say company #2 didn't do a good job, still the barrier of $500 cleaning before they diagnose it.

Mother caves, pays 500. Guy takes blower, has trouble removing fan from shroud, says he'll be back tomorrow. In the meantime he sprays coils with cleaner. The smell goes through the vents and all over the house, and the foam drains into our yard, killing some flowers. He also didnt clean where the shroud was, he only sprays the coils.

Week passes, no call. When we finally get ahold of him, he says "We'll be there between 9am and 1pm" He shows up at 2pm just to say "I forgot a part" and doesnt return until 5pm. Then, he simply places our blower motor which he took and kept for a week, back into its place. Only I notice that he replaced the motor, without giving us our old one. I assume he sold it to make a profit. While I try to watch over his back he says "You can't watch, youre becoming a liability."

He didnt do anything but spray the coils. The replacement motor is covered under warranty. Does this justify 500 dollars? What do I do?

That hvac guy is a hack. Most likely a chain company that doesn't give a shit. Most Lilly the contactor arced and stuck I. The on position. So yes 500 bucks is excessive, should not be more than a 200 dollar job since it's not even an hour and a half.

$620 to 'fix' a 2 year old system?
first company says it has to be 'cleaned' first?
second says the same?

either you smoke like 20 packs a day or you got fucked hard.

there have to be more than 2 HVAC companies in that town. keep calling until you get one that gets to the point without a cleaning.
