Ey diy.
Due to difficulties encountered when trying to get portable radios with strong encrytion, I decided to make something myself (with some help from an experienced programmer).
Picrelated is an almost complete prototype.

>2W gfsk modulation
>Simplex and repeater capabilities
>256 bit aes encryption in cbc mode
Prototype is single channel only (except in repeater mode).

Wat you think of the design?

Hey /diy/

For a project I'm working on I want to use a crt monitor and make a new housing for it. I want to install the monitor in a metal housing (which I'll make myself) as part of a bigger device. I'm thinking of using an old AppleColor crt that I have lying around.

My question is, since crt's are usually in plastic housings, can I safely take the crt out of the plastic housing and transfer it to a metal one? What precautions should I take and do I need to insulate the crt from the metal using plastic or someting?

thanks

Ground the housing. That is all.

Literally, just this. Also, make sure the flyback lead is well clear of the metalwork to avoid flashover. No real problem otherwise.

Hello /diy/

I come to you seeking guidance on some entry level electronics. Basically, I need to connect the two prongs into that black plastic adapter. They clearly don't fit so from what I understand I have to perform something called "splicing"

While the average person can probably just google this and do it within a few minutes, i am beyond retarded when it comes to trivial tasks like these - so any practical guidance would be appreciated

Yesterday I put a USB stick into my laptop, and immediately the screen went black. Now it won't respond at all. On checking the USB stick, I see that it has foil near the electrical contacts. I suspect this has shift circuited the USB on my laptops motherboard.

Join me now, in a journey to the centre of my laptop, and hopefully we can fix it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello Diy, I need your help in making a design. I need to build a prototype model for a coffee machine of my own design. I want to make my design stnsd out from the class by making a mechanism which loads a new shell in and ejects the used shell into the waste grill. The idea for the mechanism in my head was kind of like a shotgun .

You know that cheating in education is cheating yourself, right? I would assume that the point of the project is to teach you how to translate vague ideas into buildable schematics and then get a practical understanding of building to those schematics. So get to it.
>>
>>1113952
I'm a total gun novice but I can't see how the lever for the next shell is getting triggered to load in?

>>1113951
And your sketches aren't giving me a great insight into how you plan for the mechanism to function either.

I'll be honest, sometimes the simplest way is the best. My machine just drops the used one into its bucket thing, and I put a new one in the top. Gravity, man.

Do love that your teacher called it "basic" though.

So I buy a house, and after about a week into moving in, I keep finding little things that the sellers neglected to keep in decent condition (as sellers do).

This one is a simple fix I'm sure, but they've managed to rip the outlet out of the wall, and the screw won't hold it there any longer. To add to this, and my own inexperience, there's no internal bracket thing.

So, how am I best to secure this thing back to the wall without a huge mess or making a new hole? There's a stud about an inch and a half away, to the left.

Hello /diy,

I am making a wallbed (pic related) and it is for my condominium which is roughly 535 sq ft.

I want to make this thing because as of right now, I only have a studio style kitchen/living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. I want to put this thing in my bedroom so that I can then convert it into a living room when necessary. Essentially adding a room to my condo.

My problem though, is that I want to have a couch sectional attached that can be used when the bed is in the stored position. While I have the knowledge of professional cabinet assembly and access to expensive CNC machinery that I can program, I don't know how to build a couch, and much less, the upholstering that is involved. Is there a book that any of you could recommend that may be useful to me? I recognize that furniture building is an art, especially couches, but I do believe I am up to the challenge. I've made it this far.

Any other tips or constructive criticism is appreciated and I will give more details of the condo if necessary.

So I made a stupid decision and bought this tv mount bracket that screws into an ikea tv center. The problem? The tv center has this black glass top panel, which covers up where the mount has to go (I colored in the glass on the instructions). It's tempered, so there isn't a way to cut it. Any hack ideas to salvage this thing? The best answer is probably "package it up, take it back to ikea and go get a real wall mount" but ikea is an hour away.

Can't find any mention on the website/instructions/store that the two were incompatible.

If it's an error, it has to be with the design of the glass panel not having a hole where it should have for cable/tv mount. See pic.

I realized that it covered up the spot for cables, but I didn't think about the mount.

'ave you got the right panel for the TV unit?

that (abnve link and pic) appears to have a cutout (whereas, your pic dont - ?) - Im on Bong IKEA, but, product numbers should match - dunno, you maybe just have 'a shelf' there, and not the 'TV top shelf' (with cutout) you need?

HC-SR04-Ultrasonic-Sensor.jpg

For those of you who have used pic related (HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor) and are familiar with its operation/quirks/limitations, I'm trying to decide whether or not ultrasonic would work well in the application I plan to use them for (I can get a pack of 10 for $15) or if I need to go with a [more costly] scanning LIDAR solution instead.

Here's what I plan to do: I was thinking of getting a bunch of them to use with my car to display data readouts of each sensor on an OLED display (no blinding backlight, variable brightness). I plan to use this as a parking sensor that actually tells me how many meters I am from an object. Since my Camry has electronic power steering, braking, and throttle, I'm sure I could use this to implement self-parking, collision avoidance, and adaptive cruise control. I don't doubt ultrasonic range finders will work fine for parking applications, where the vehicle is moving at speeds of 5mph or less, but I'm unsure they'd work reliably, if at all, at cruising speeds? Would wind flowing across the car cause the detector to clip and/or distort the ultrasonic sound wave to the point where the signal is unreadable or no?

>>
>>1113753
It only works for ranging out to 500cm... for an adaptice cruse control you are going to want a lot more than that.

For parking at slow speed i think it work well as a distance indicator and a collision warning.

Not that hard.

Make wooden frame

The transformer, even if for some stupid reason you don't want to endanger your life with high energy high voltage experiments the copper in it is worth some money as scrap.

PS. modern microwaves have high frequency transformers in them, nothing of value.

Give me the transformer. They are gigantic in those 80s microwaves.

With the transformer you can make:

Spot Welder (like the one in this vid)
Ultra Heavy Duty Power Supply
Lichtenberg Figure Wood burner
Metal Melter
Super Electromagnet
With 2 transformers you can make an arc welder.

-The fan can be used for many things.
-There are several nice heavy duty switches.
-If it has a turn table motor, those are great for a variety of things from small electric generation to a fly tying rotary for drying fishing flies.

Remember the big ass capacitor needs to be shorted to drain it. Google how to do that safely before working on it.

I bought a headphone/speaker amplifier but my speakers are connected through rca into the right channel and then a connection from the right speaker to the left speaker. Is there a way of connecting the connector for the left speaker into a rca cable so i can plug it into the left channel of the amp output. (pic related)

Your question is highly confusing. I believe you are asking how to hook the speaker shown up to an externally powered input bypassing the internal amplifier. Correct?

Jesus, that's nasty.
You used the wires going to another light to power that one. You're going to need a tester, and find out which wires lose power when you flip the associated switch. Otherwise, you'll need to run a new wire to the switch, then back to the box. This is unlikely, as that is definitely a light box, but those are typically not used as a junction box like that. Pretty ghetto.

The lower switch controls the 3rd light.
