How do you call that "type" of structures?

I want a room shaped like an octagon, with windows on each of its sides

But first I need to know how it is called

i've got the idea in my head to make an electric longboard DIY
i'm thinking 10S2P configuration (10 cells total, 5 cells in series in two packs that are in parallel) so it'll get good top speed around 20mph and good range around 10 miles

has anyone else attempted something like this? is it better to get kits like a motor kit and battery pack kit and put it all together or go raw parts and CNC your own motor mounts and wire your own battery packs with battery management systems etc?

Hello /diy/, I'm coming from /3/ and I'm looking for advice.

For an uni project which I described here >>>/3/546388
I created a sort of Mars looking landscape using Worldmachine and Rhino. Pic related. The total landscape is about 150x150 cm, and I divided it into 9 parts of 50x50 each, so I don't have to carry around a huge model.
I also want the robot to print the final result of the project directly onto the middle part of the model, so by splitting it up, I can build the middle part a couple of times and replace it if something goes wrong.

Anyway, I'm looking for tips or advice or any pointers on how I could actually build this landscape to look as realistic as possible.
Coming from an architecture background, my usual way of recreating landscape would be to just slice up the model into layers of around 1-3mm height and then use a lasercutter to cut the shape. This creates a terraced, uniform look which is okay for architectural models, but does not look very natural.
I have looked at a couple of videos from people building landscapes for model trains, but I could not find one that recreated actual terrain, it was always sort of random.

I dont have any real budget constraints, so I'm also looking into having the pieces cnc milled, but if I could spend less, I would prefer that. I have about 2 weeks to finish this thing.

Thanks for your help!

So I've inherited this laptop motherboard from a mate and an planning to use it for myself as a low powered pc /htpc/emulation/internet browser. I've got everything sorted out, my only question is, will soldering heatsinks to the heatpipes help reduce the temperatures at all?

I have a 2 or 3 chipset drivers from dead motherboards I can use.

I'd try it out without bothering to ask usually, but this is something that I'm worried might be permanent once soldered on.

You are a retard.

Secondly, when you solder that, it's going to run off and fuck up the board.

Just get a cooling pad for it. If I were you I would just toss it in my old parts pile. I'm sure your friend got rid of it because it's garbage.

You could install MAME on it and hook it up to your t.v. but otherwise it's useless.

As far as thermal dynamics of passive cooling on heatpipes, I expect the effect to be negligible if it has an effect at all. Might as well drop it into mineral oil inside a fish tank.

you need a NOCTUA GAYMER FAN, or better three. AMZ sometimes sells fans in the wrong color for COOL GAYMING; if so, just return it, theyre good like that.

>I'm worried might be permanent once soldered
nope.jpg - have no worries over the permanency, this 'solder directly to heatpipe' approach will definitely allow scope for design revision afterwards.

Meanwhile irl, take off the cooler thats already on processor, new heatpaste, put it back, 50% thermal improvement.

Imagine a line parallel to the upright legs but located in the centre of the structure.
Your shelf will twist around this axis.
Typical remedy is a diagonal brace or some sheet material between the rear upright legs.
There will be no change in the amount of mass the shelf can hold however it will be more liable to self destruct under a light breeze.

How hard would it be to build a desk like this? It costs a grand to buy so I'm hoping it would be cheaper to do it myself. Is it a suitable beginners project?

What is the most cost effective way to fix this hole in the side of my foundation? I'm renting the house and I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I also want to keep cats and other critters out as I keep hearing cats under the bathtub and found a dead opossum next to the hole the other day.

Which is the strongest trade?

Plasterers get huge shoulders, glaziers get big backs, brickies get forearms, electricians are wimpy little faggots.

The strongest workers I've come across are the bench top guys. I guess moving slabs of granite around has an effect.

hey /diy/,

for a project i'm working on, i need to find a material which would come in sheets, preferably at least 10mm thickness, and which is flexible and smooth.

i tried using liquid plastic, the one from which fishing lure are made, and pouring it into molds, but it's too expensive and it's not exactly what i have in mind

i tried silicon rubber, but it's much more expensive and harder to get

any ideas?

how flexible? HDPE and LDPE are pretty floppy, and relatively inexpensive, but you can still build things out of them

I have no official qualifications and yet it's legal in quite a few places for me to do electrical work on commercial properties if it's part of my job description.

Welcome to law.

Here commercial literally has no qualification. The regulations simply say you must be competent. Which is a joke as its so subjective.

is there anywhere in the world where its outright illegal besides Australia?

Remodeling the house pictured and am looking for software that will allow me blueprint the current house. Then to be able to add an addition onto to it with different option. Would also like to be able to view the interior and plan out the different rooms. Changes windows, door, flooring. Being able to add a custom work like cabinets or deck would be great too.

I've been using Dream Plan Home design which is decently functional but lacks the ability to add roofs or beams. Being able to plan out landscaping would be nice. Is there software to cover this or do I need a couple different programs?

any cad software

but universally recommended for non professionals: google sketchup
>>
>>1115754
AutoCADs good with exclusively 2D stuff.
There's an extension on google sketchup as >>1115765 mentioned for professional drawings that will need to be stamped later down the road. So I'd say that's a good start.
>>
A shot in the dark but it's realistic enough. You could literally play The Sims and build a house in that and add or subtract things on it and build and decorate the rooms as well. I have blueprinted many types of stuff in that game, from gyms, to community pools, from schools, to jails and the most unique houses imaginable. Damn shame I lost those save files long ago.

Google sketch up is good too like others had mentioned. Also just Google architect software and see what comes up. Good luck.

Is there any chance anyone's got a .pdf of The Anarchist's Tool Chest?

I'm going to /diy/ my own desk this summer, and was just looking for some suggestions and ideas.

Right now, the extent of my plans are that it'll be around 7' x 3' and rock solid. I'll be making due with a circular saw+Kreg rip guide since I don't have a table saw, but other than that I'm set tool-wise.

Y'all got any ideas or suggestions on how to go about things? Free-standing versus wall mounted, how thick it should be, if I should reinforce the edges, MDF vs plywood, how to do cable management, should I mount power outlets and USB ports, should I make it fixed/adjustable/sit-stand height, etc. What do you guys like and dislike about your current desks? Should I include drawers? I think my biggest sticking points are how to determine the correct height if it's not adjustable, and how I should finish the top. I want it to be waterproof, but I also want it not to be sticky/tacky(like glass) when my arms rest on it in the summer.

four legs at least 2x4s

one inch thick plywood top with 2 to 4 inch apron

a plywood backing 12" below the desk top dropping down for cable mounts and power strips mount

height is personal preference

the top can be whatever you want

dont bother with adjustable it is a meme

That's a bit overkill to flicker an LED strip. It would be much easier to use a 555 timer.
This hasn't been tried with humans yet according to the article, so it could be totally useless.

Will have to perform some surgery for the full effect. But yeah, a duino can do it.

I'd look into DIY'ing a Glutathione nebulizer instead.
