Hi, my condo has separate central heating thermostat and fan control. It looks pretty dated, I've never seen this configuration before. I'd like to update it, but I'm not sure what new control systems would be compatible.

History: the complex was built in the early 70s, and was converted from apartments to condos in the 90s.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or questions, but it may take me a few hours to answer questions

/diy/, I just started a job in apartment maintenence 4 months ago. Prior to this I had no experience in anything hands on. I feel like I get to do a little of everything, some HVAC, some plumbing, some electrical, but honestly some days it feels too simple. Any other /diy/guys in this field? Any advice, tips of the trade to stand out, or even just great stories?

Take thw time to figure out how to do something right and fix things using the proper materials you probly get paid hourly so it will benifit you moneywise and in learning how to fix things. If i had a dollar for every time i hade to stop and fix a horrible repair done by some shmuck matinance guy who just used whatever was fastest and nearest to hand i could retire.

I've been doing building maintenance at a couple of churches for almost a year now and I love it. My dad did it for years at home and work so I already knew some things.
Pay attention to the repair guys that show up, you can learn a lot and most are real friendly and helpful, you bring them business.
Also do a good job because people can see your work and that's what will help you move up. There's really good and fun jobs out there doing this.

I can't tell from the photo but that looks like most snare heads still look. It's basically just two metal rings that you tighten down with the long bolts along the side.
Pic is the kind I have. Only thing I'd worry about is the wood being dry rotted or something and it collapsing when you tighten it.

I want to make a Yakiniku tabletop grill out of concrete, kinda like pic related.

Is regular concrete heatproof enough or am I going to blow myself up if it gets too hot? How can I make sure it doesnt end up flaking after a single use?

I'm planning on making a simple mold out of melamine or legos, something like that.

Noice! Thanks.

I have a stupid idea that requires a constant current and voltage supply capable of 32V at whatever amps 2500W is.

Whenever I try Googleing this, I just get a bunch of bullshit and contradicting information on how to build a constant current. So how do I do it /diy/?

I have no luck on finding one that will go big enough for this, so it seems building is my only option. Has to go from 12v ish (car electrical system) to 32v and limit the current. It also needs PWM control on top of that.

It's for driving LEDs.

Unscrew
then wedge something underneath
>>
>>1121245
They're not screws, they're just circular holes, that's the difficulty.
>>
>>1121247
They are screws. They are a Torex head that has been painted over.
Use a tip of a knife or something pointy and metal to remove the paint inside the 'circle' then use a T25 bit (most likely) to unscrew and then pry it open with a screw driver while cursing the bastards who painted over this

Hi /diy/, anyone here knows pic related? I saw these are specific for skateboarding, helps to absorbs the impact while skating.

I would like to get these for a everyday use, but where i live these are not sold, so i think i can do a homemade ones.

Anyone knows from what material are those made of (or a similar material that works)?

> helps to absorbs the impact while skating.

Funny
Back when I used to skate, we didnt have this problem.
Skate shoes were made for ankle support and for absorbing impact.

Now people pay the same inflated price for fucking low tops that rip apart in a month, youll roll your ankle in, and youll bruise your heels and get shin splints.

Its a double whammy
Convince the kids to pay inflated prices for less materials in the name of fashion.
Great job
>>

I used to skate too but like 7 years ago, now with job and family i cant. but sometimes i still watch videos and found this things out, like i already say in my post, i want to use those for a everyday use. Like to put on my work shoes and things like that i think that can be a good idea because since i have to use work shoes my feets are getting worse everyday
>>
>>1121127
They are literally just inner soles with art printed on them.
You can buy cushioning inner soles at walmart or the grocery store.

Also if your feet hurt and they feel worse every day, you have the wrong shoes.
There is no such thing as one size fits all, there are different types of soles for different shapes of feet.

Go to a real shoe store, get fitted, buy some proper shoes. Your ankles, knees, and lower back will thank you in the long run.

>Why don't people build their own houses these days?
Because you can't get a mortgage using construction materials as collateral.
And besides hiring someone (>>1120947), she also used 4 "children" for free labor.

Plus, I'd like to know where someone with zero experience can pull all the permits required.
Everywhere I've lived, you need 10 years experience as an electrician to get your master's license.

This is what I want to know. Is it illegal to do the wiring in a home on your own or something? If you personally fund everything and do everything by yourself is there any laws there?

why do no kitchen cabinet makers use solid wood or non wood alternatives anymore? i got quoted $10000 for cabinets (no install, appliances or benchtop and not that many over head cabinets) made out of that shitty chipboard stuff and everywhere i go is the same laminated board deal. so expensive for a garbage product i can buy from ikea

basically the cracass is by far the cheapest part of any kitchen remodel.
kitchen design and instal companies make a fuck ton of profit on these things.
the actually expensive parts are the doors, drawer fronts and the worktops.
i worked as a kitchen designer for the now defunct Space Kitchens here in the UK.
they would source real wood carcasses from Screwfix, a hardware retailer, and slam on around 1200% mark up, yeah 12 hundred percent, thats not a typo.
after realising just how much this company was ripping off clients i blew the whistle on them way back in 2007.

my best advice is have a look through hardware wholesalers/bulders merchants catalogs and cut out the middle man.

hell if you measure up your kitchen space i'd be more than happy to drop you a design or two and a load of ideas.
>>
>>1120640
particle board is fucking garbage, but plywood is fine. i used to hate plywood in any type of furniture or home fixture, but in a lot of cases it is superior to solid wood.
>>
There are companies that make high quality all wood construction cabinets.

Wood Mode being one of the most dominant in that field, followed by the Schrock Premiere.

Expect those to cost $20K just for the cabs

No but its something specialized for sure.. Clearly it is made to spread something out.. Maybe something for installing piston rings? Or brake pads in drum brakes?

Look for a part number actually..

Alright /diy/, I'm in college, and I need a school project for the next three months. I was talking to my uncle(who happens to be the shop teacher on my college), and he said he needs a new throttle body for his Kadett GSi.
I've decided to make a set of ITB's for that engine (C20XE). Here's the plan:
>Find a spare head
>Scan using office printer
>Use Solidworks Autotrace to determine the base flange shape
>Cut from 10mm aluminium (using water jet cutter)
>Mill 4 blocks that smoothly transition from the port shape to a round 42mm bore (using 4 axis mill) and hold the injectors
>Weld blocks to base flange
>Extend blocks using round tubing
>Weld in a top flange to stabilise the piping
>Top it all off with a set of 422mm GSX-R1000 throttle bodies
>Make inserts between the throttle bodies so the manifold pipes are perfectly parallel

Am I forgetting something here?
Also, I need to clock 280 hours doing this, including research, design and welding practice. Can it be done?

Long story short, I bought some incredibly cheap weights off Craigslist, but some of the plates lack parts of the rubber coating.
>picrelated for reference, those are the worst of the set.

How can I "graft" some missing rubber onto the bare metal?
Looks aren't a priority, my floor's integrity and sound dampening are. I don't drop the weights like a retard, but heavy deadlifting sometimes requires me to lower them faster than my downstairs neighbors would like to.

Also, any ideas on how to build a stand for dips? Preferrably wall-mounted.

I'll take pics of my homegym building endeavour and upload all progress here.

Try very thin layers of shoe goo, top of with plasti dip layers. You can possibly lightly sand every layer to make sure theres little to no air bubbles. Before you start, take some good up close pics and make sure your end results look reasonably round. I would hit up a dollar store and get a few types of rubber cement and shoe glue to see what works best.
>>
>>1120059
Also for dips, you literally can just build a diy power rack and use throw away furniture foam wrapped in duct tape for padding.
