most home intrusions are mid day they usually knock on door first when people aren't home they brake in.
leave a radio or tv on is best

never have NRA or Gun stickers on car or home.

fancy security stuff tells them you have valuables.

making it look like some one is home and not answering the door is best
>>
>>1124316
This.

Also put lights on random cheap timers from home depot, You can do the same with radios and pretty much anything else.

Also make up a sign saying do not knock, we do not answer, and a bunch of rambling shit about how they are now trespassing and you will exercise your 2nd amendment rights.

I have a sign I keep on my storm door saying "POSTED PRIVATE PROPERTY, YOU ARE NOW TRESPASSING"
"Do not knock, Entering or attempting to enter my home is unlawful and extremely dangerous, Owner is armed" and copies of my lawyers card taped below it lol.

It actually has worked, Pretending to be crazy works every time. If I were a home burgerler I would definitely choose the house without the crazy threatening sign on the front door

How to remove hard water stains in my bathroom? Pic unrelated.

it all depends, sometimes its quite easy, sometimes, well, impossible, actually.
>advice unrelated
>>
>>1132961
Your pic is actually very related. You can use a slice of lemon to rub away all the stains (those are made of calcium, lemon simply dissolves them away) just be careful to avoid using it on marble or concrete or whatever may be weak to acids. By the way any acid will do (vinegar... Maybe mustard)
>>
>>1132961
Former house cleaner here. We used a "magic eraser" sponge with just water and a dollop of shampoo. Scrub the effected area, rinse, and repeat as necessary until the hard water stains are gone.

So I have a water leak somewhere on my property. I live here by myself, not watering anything yet, my water bill was 12,000 gallons. My father and the other 2 family members down the street are at 3-4000gal. I went to the water meter and the leak detector gauge is slowly turning. I checked it at 12AM and again at 8AM and it was about 90-100gal which can translate to almost 9000gallons a month. So the numbers make sense. The shut off is between the city main and the meter so yes shutting that off stops the meter. I shut the cold valve on the water heater, valves under sinks and toilets, and the valve on the backflow preventer for the sprinklers. Still spins, didn't slow. The two water bibbs on the outside of the house have freeze covers are are not wet or dripping. There are no puddles in the yard, soggy spots, unusually green spots. There are some bare spots and I will have to wait for the rain water to dry out to see if anything remains wet. There are no wet floors, walls, or showers, this is a one story home. I even put a stethoscope onto the faucets to listen for any faint running noises and can't hear anything.

What else can I do before I call a plumber? This home was built in 1990. I'm praying it's not a slab leak but its aiming more towards it with my lack of findings. What are your thoughts?

My only suspicion is that (and you may remember my post), I have a stand up shower that had cracked grout and led to a wet wall. I stopped using that shower and the wall has dried, at least from what I can tell. I will post pictures of it next so you can see what I am talking about. Pic related, it's the sprinkler map I found when I bought the home.

Here is the shower in question. Anyone who read about it a few weeks ago, no, I haven't even dug into that project yet. The little divider wall between the shower and the cabinets was the one that got wet. The moister was on the outer corner however I did see it was wet to the baseboard of the cabinet. As of right now though, it is dry. My only suspicion is that maybe the leak could be in the slab under the shower or somewhere the area? No wet walls or water stains have been found despite the shower head and valves share a wall with a walk in closet.

I honestly think that water "leak" was from cracked grout and water seeping in however if there were a slab leak I wound mind it being in there since I'm tearing out the shower anyway.

Backflow Preventer.jpg

Additionally the backflow preventer valves are corroded badly and the handles broke off without force. I was able to get vice grips on the stub that was left of the top valve and close it. I can't be 100% sure that it is completely closed, I mean it's old, it may still hiss a little, but the meter didn't slow down any and the sprinklers won't turn on so I will assume it is closed. The bottom valve on the backflow preventer was not able to be closed.

I say this because my coworker says I should dig up the 4 or 5 feet between the backflow preventer box and the meter and add a PVC shut off so I can work on the irrigation system without turning off the water to the entire lot. I said I agree but the backflow preventer has 2 shut offs on it. Yes, granted they are fucked right now but once I fix my leak I will replace the thing and then I will have usable valves again. In your opinion do you think I should do what he said so I can shut off the sprinklers *for sure* and make sure that isn't part of the leak? It would be my first time doing it and I really don't want to fuck up anything before the plumber comes. I am pretty confident it isn't the irrigation system that is leaking.

I just need a plumber to identify where the leak is coming from. If it's in the yard I can excavate myself. Sorry for all the obnoxious posts.

The Trump shoop add-on is actually pretty dreadful - literally 10 minutes to redo (better..) base image on etsy, if you wanted best quality, buy one of his GW cards @ $4 and scan, add Text and realistic head (that ones too small, and hands obv. too big ;) - send to printer at 300dpi and correct size (or print yourself, on transfer, whatever) done. And you even /diy/ed it, a bit, or ask /gd/ (lol), even tho it sucks dick, you'll look like a walloper and antifa will probably knock you out on the street.

But >>1132544 's right, @ 6592 @ 72 dpi = real shit print, dont even.

So this is a question for an HVAC technician or anyone else familiar with vacuums and how they work. In the construction industry they use vacuum insulated panels that have a high R-value (40-60 depending). What If I applied this to clothing, that is to say can a vacuumed sealed chamber be flexible? I understand that the sides of the seal cannot touch each other because that would defeat the purpose of it.
My idea was to use thin vacuum tubing weaved together in areas of the fiber such as the arm pits, core and other key areas. If a small gauge, release valve and hand hand pump were embedded into the jacket, you could essentially control home much your jacket insulates. Another idea I had was to take hollowed out plastic membranes and use them like wool or cotton batting. Weaved with other types of material such as Kevlar and heat resistant foils and you could withstand extreme environments for a long period of time, on body heat alone.

>>
>>1132357
They once tried putting aerogel in jackets, it didn't work very well as people found them to be too warm.

You need to be able to get rid of body heat for hot environments, or things get rather uncomfortable
>>
>>1132360
aerogel isn't a vacuum though, it's just trapped air. A cooling device could also be installed and would work more efficiently with such good insulation, it would just have to be mounted to the interior of the vacuum.
>>
Makita makes powered cooled jackets. Maybe look at those for some design ideas.

Anyone have any experience with mounting televisions without studs? I was looking into snap achors but I'm not entirely sure on this route. Another question I'm here to ask is, if anyone has experience with snap anchors, what are the ABSOLUTE BEST ones I could buy to ensure my TV doesn't come crashing down off my wall at any time?

snap anchor are stronger than you need and definitely strong enough to hold tv, no question about it, as long as it is not niggerfit
>>

niggerfit?

Also when you say stronger than you need, what do you mean? Are there alternatives? Also do you have any snap anchor suggestions? Specifically Amazon or online links to ones I should buy that are at least reliable?

Good morning, /diy/! I was at my parents' house last night and my Father told me about how his doctor's office screwed him out of his Percocet pain management meds. He NEVER takes more than the prescribed dose, and he routinely has his blood tested to make sure he is not abusing.

3 days ago he called the doctor to advise that he only has 4 of his pills left, and the receptionist on the other end saw he was on schedule and said she would call when his script is ready. He called them back yesterday and the same receptionist said that the doctor he's been seeing is no longer writing scripts for pain management and that he'd have to see a new doctor on Thursday. He told them he's down to only 2 pills but all they could offer was to tell him to break them in half and make them last for the next 5 days.

That is out of the question. The pain in his wrists, back, and ribs is too much for a half-pill to calm and further 4 half-pills over 5 days just doesn't add up.

tl;dr - what are some OTC medicines or combination of medicines that can help ease his pain until his appointment on Thursday?

That's a good idea but I've already asked around and no luck yet - still waiting for some people to reply. I know it's probably a unicorn in that it doesn't exist but I would really like to find an OTC solution so that he can get them ASAP and so that he has a game plan for the future.

Hey diy, I have 2 dogs which love to sit on my bay windowsill and look outside all day. 1 dog developed a leg issue and she can't make the jump onto the sill anymore. I built her some stairs out of 5/4 pine which she now uses but are they strong enough?
