The cheapo ones

They all get really rusty in the humid salty islands no matter the brand

Can someone please give me dumbed down instructions on how to make something similar to this? This isn't my field at all and I have no idea what the pieces are called that i'd need etc

2. buy the parts you see
3. legos

You don't need to know what they're called.

Go to hardware store's plumbing section. Find pipes and valves. Find sizes that fit into each other.

Connect pieces, set as shown. There's no special magic at work there, just valves and liquid pressure.

Maybe pick up some plumbers tape for the threads.

I have my own room and share a flat with three other guys. I can hear everything they do in the kitchen because our rooms are so poorly insulated against noise, and I don't like the idea that if I have a girl over everyone will hear it. I think my door is definitely the primary way that noise is getting in, so I want to insulate my door against noise. It's an apartment, so I have to do it without actually modifying the door itself. I'm thinking of actually hanging a rug on it, but I'm not sure how I'd go about doing that. How / what else do you recommend?

if you have an asshole landlord (most likely) : take it off the hinges, put it in the storage closet and put in a solid core door.

If he's easy going : pick out a better door, say you'll pay for it and get him to sign off on the replacement.

Then use draft strips and a bottom draught excluder on the door.

Can a homeowner “save up” natural gas that comes into the home via a natural gas utility company pipeline?

For example, could the natural gas service be piped into a large 500 lb propane tank in the yard (as are commonly used in rural areas with propane) and saved for later use, in the event of a disruption to the natural gas utility system?

I’m thinking that for day-to-day use, the natural gas would flow into the tank and from there into the home for use by the furnace, stove, etc. but if something interrupted the gas service, an automatic valve would close the incoming pipeline, preserving 500 lbs of natural gas in the tank until the service was restored.

Is this possible?

Yes, you will need to pump it as even before the regulator utility natural gas is not under high pressure. Also propane liquefies, natural gas wont until its under extremely high pressure, a propane tank wont store nearly as much natural gas as it would propane.

You may also want to look into cng tanks that are designed for this (primarily for vehicles) they store it at like 6000 psi. A cng tank able to fit in a car may hold more natural gas than your propane tank.

> Yes, you will need to pump it as even before the regulator utility natural gas is not under high pressure.

So by “yes”, you actually mean "no, not really in any kinda useful capacity"?

Since that 500 lb propane tank would just act something like an unpressurized hot air balloon, you’d only be storing a few cubic feet of natural gas that would run out pretty quickly once the gas service was interrupted.
>>

As others have mentioned, you're only filling it up with gas as that's what the mains send down their lines.
Now in another career as a child slave labourer in my parents petrol station I used to fill a lot of gas cylinders using the decanting way, which is at its most basic- shoving liquid gas into another container. That is what creates the pressure as it goes from liquid to gas and expands.

"HOW." are you doing /diy? I've recently given up drinking and a few other vices and hobbies so that I can build a battle station. With my moderate construction knowledge the full room wrap around desk will be hand made. To make it somewhat unique while staying cost effective i would like to lay particle board for the top. Then to save on the clear reain some I would like to desolder and remove any and all parts from several conouter chips and glue them down. Then clear over the. For a hopefully flawless and smooth finish.

My question, assuming I don't care to save any of the parts, what is the best way to go about removing massive amounts of parts without damaging the look of the board?

Solder gun is painfully slow. Small pen torch charrs the boards.

I'm down to a heat gun or possibly and old oven if i can find one.

Any advice?

Pic... i'm not sure if related?

Also, generally cool things made from computer chips, battle station ideas, gear recommendations for a 5 boxxer wow setup with IS boxxer. Newbie mmorpg gear.

heat gun is fastest but you will never clean up the remaining solder

just get a new unpopulated board will be easier and better looking
>>
>>1134855
I use a resistance solderer. It is instant heat through the solder and is safe for components so long as you don't cross the electrodes across points on the component. It also is so fast that heat doesn't destroy the component either even without using needle nose pliers as a heatsink on the legs.

Just wondering if any of you guys have any good experiences with 110v hobby welding machines. I have a few things i'd like to build. I've been reading up online but haven't come to a decision yet. Wanted to get the AHP alpha 160st but they don't ship to Canada.

Look on craigslist. Better to get a used welder first and see if you like it before dropping cash on something you won't use. Go with 220 if you can. I just got a lincoln 220 volt 225 amp stick welder off craigslist for 75 bucks.

Hey there /diy/nosaurs. I frequent a bunch of the blue boards, particularly /out/ and /diy/. Both boards constantly ask for infographics so I started compiling a library of them back in 2015. It's since been updated over and over, and I'm working on another update as I type this. It's a bit over 6GB and contains infographics, books, audio, and video files. Recently I was able to upload it all onto Google Drive:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2ILpxMxNOBzZGxpNmtQQzBfWlE

Please note - the library was made for the user to drill down to the project or predicament at hand, so if you're simply browsing you WILL run into redundancies. Happy reading!

Soo...Long Story short:
I always wanted a nice setup for my home recording studio... Studiofurniture is quite overpriced, while wood is quite cheap in my area.

Unfortunately I am no experienced handyman. I have build my own Bed (which is quite crude and basic) and a crossbow once....
And I know that oftentimes building your own furniture will turn out more expensive then simply buying it.
BUT i am really tall (6.75 feet / 2m06), so I guess I would have to get a custom made table anyways.
I will post a basic sketch

So This is the Idea I came up with.

I have a few concerns:
>Will it be stable enough to support my equipment?
>Is that to complicated for me?
>Which wood should I use?
>Will I be able to get a curved piece of wood like that one under the table somewhere?
>how would I best support the flat piece of wood on the back? Will it break if I move the table forward?

Just give me any general thought

sorry for broken english

do you know how to follow a schematic, buy wood, measure it up, cut it, drill it, and insert skrews where you need to?

then you can probably build it

tip:
build a small one before you waste money on materials.

A bookshelf is absurdly simple to make, it's just a bunch of horizontal boards, stacked some distance from each other.
>>
>>1135388
You should probably hire a carpenter dont want you to bust up your thumbsies.

Want to make a pic related, I plan on using wood (or not) and aluminum/steel sheets to make the frame, and I have an old CRT monitor.

If I take the CRT monitor apart and touch something metal will I zap myself?

I also have an older flat screen monitor, but CRT would obviously look better

>>
>>1135282
if you are so worried then keep the monitor in the box and build around it.
yes screens can hold high voltage charges. watch videos and if you are confident enough wear rubber gloves, touch with one hand only.

The screens in the fallout terminals are (with default HUD color) green phosphor monitors. But imho the orange phosphor screens looked the best

Save some time and remodel an old computer
Might take some searching on ebay but they arn't hard to come by. Find a controller for the screen or replace it, and then put a raspberry pi in it.

Pic related.

Other models that look simular are the Zenith Z-89 (and some other zenith models), ADM-3A terminal (closest matching I can think of) and an interesting one that wouldn't really match but still looks neat is the SIAC V2, which some times pop up on ebay. Try searching for "dumb terminal" or "vintage computer".

Would something I find in the diy store work for crème brûlees or should I go the other way around (like the chef's torch in pic)? Other tips? Thanks!

I found the same Hotery CT-6000 which is also sold on this cooking site https://www.kookpunt.nl/hotery-ct-6000-gasbrander/nl/product/6186/

Also should I worry about the specific mix the torches take (butane, propane, a mix, ...)?

Have item in pic, wireless door chime.

I'm trying to come up with a way to wire it to a trap, so it sounds when the trap has been triggered.

I thought of maybe attaching some fishing line to the bar, and the other end to a piece of something breaking the battery connection(s) so when the trap was set off, it would pull the thing out, restoring power. The main problem is that I doubt it could be hooked up to more than one trap.

Ideally it would something that would activate when the connection between the metal bar and the retaining hook is broken.

>yes, there are products that do this already, but those would be like at least another $15 oop, so I'd like to try to /diy/ something first
