So I was on the shooting range and right next to those real weapons there were guys playing with those laser toys. They were in shape of real pistol, inside there was a laser and when they pulled the trigger, the laser was getting activated.

So I've been thinking, that maybe I could build such a mechanism myself. Benefits:

>I could practice shooting at any time.
>And I would pay no money for it, once the system gets implemented.
>And while it would certainly not replace standard range practices, it might certainly limit them.

What I want to have:

>Fake weapon with guts removed from it.
>With laser inside
>With something to generate fake knock back inside the weapon
>Make it emit sound through headphones, preferably those would be connected to some other device, not directly to the pistol.
>Make the target reacting to laser

How I plan to do it:

>Buy fake weapon, since they are legal around here.
>Buy laser pointer toy
>Dismantle both, attach one to another by whatever means - I don't think its going to be any troublesome.
>Sound issue: put raspberry Pi zero inside, attach wifi module to USB. Module sends signal to cellphone through WiFi, cellphone through specially written app sends signal to headphones to emit "bang" sound.
>Raspberry Pi zero is powered by the battery.
>Target reacts to laser pointer and sends signal to ATMEGA8, that will collect points and pottentially measure distance from previous shots in some similar to clustering fashion.
>Atmega sends data to digital point counter.

The questions, that are worrying me, though are:

>How do I simulate the knockback? I plan to use it in my flat, surrounded by neighbours. So it must be something silent. But I have no idea how to generate such a force, even with making the noise. Without making noise, it seems very hard.
>How do I make the target? What material generates or loses power, once laser beam hits it's surface? Since I'm a programmer, I have no idea.

Get a gas blowback airsoft pistol, and fit it with a laser in the barrel. It will be a fraction of knockback, but it should get the point accross

How does a passive audio crossover get affected by two speakers wired in series? All I can gather from google is that it may affect the frequency range that the crossover was designed for. What do? HALP!
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1132551
Two of the same speakers? Half the impedance expected by the crossover?
Give us details anon, parts, specs, objectives
>>
>>1132551
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-pass_filter#Electronic_low-pass_filters

for passive filters,The cutoff frequency is 1/RC

In series you'd be doubling the resistance R
so you'd be reducing the cutoff frequency effectively lowering the crossover point by half
(ie 100hz instead of 200hz)

Besides that it should work perfectly fine.

If you put them in parallel you'll double the crossover point, however you have to be careful, lowering the impedence can draw more current than your amp can supply (and 'possibly' more than the inductors in your crossover)
>>
>>1132551
and this is for a super simple crossover.
a lot have measures to negate the affects of both the points mentioned above.

Hello ladies and gentlemen.
I wonder can anyone throw me some ideas for a frame to hold a sign and strips of LED.

The image is laser cut on .8mm stainless steel.
I need an idea for a light, simply constructed frame to hold the strip if LEDS to surround the sign.

I've been thinking of 10mm thick alluminium strips but that would involve alot of drilling and tapping to construct. Not to mention weight.
I also thought of polypropylene and glue.
Or strips of wood tacked together.

I really don't know so hoping ye might have ideas.
Excuse the fast sketch.

My local hardware shops have aluminium profiles that you could use. They have pieces that you can stick into the ends to make corners; they actually look okay.
You could look at frames for pictures; they aren't that expensive and save a lot of time.

I'd recommend a sheet of acrylic behind the front panel to dispense light.

Thank you very much for your reply.
That's a great idea. I will look into it.

Far as leds go. Diy yourself somehow to save cash or use smd led strip.

I am planning to make own LED light setup.
What interests me the most is efficiency.
230V 50Hz installation
Highest efficiency possible is what interests me, so LED will be driven with 10-20mA current max and voltage will need stabilization. No transformer, just long chain of LED, might even lengthen chain and use internal diode resistance instead of resistor (known, yet rarely practiced method 70-100 LED chain surely does have some resistance)
Should I replace diode bridge with MOSFET switch? and how to stabilize voltage enough to prevent pulsing, replace cap with something else? use choke instead of resistor?
Or there is other way I have not thought of using? like chain of LEDs directly, instead of diode bridge? however I have no idea how to stop pulsation in this case.

http://www.ledsupply.com/blog/wiring-leds-correctly-series-parallel-circuits-explained/

You really need to hook them in Parallel or at the very least groups of Series-Parallel. A bunch of lights in Series can result in thermal runnaway as well has a few lights hogging all the power from the others.

Calculating circumference rarely works out in the real world.
mark every 45 degrees (or less) on both parts and check alignment as you go.
I used to make templates for cutting steel pipe.
Always got the circumference by wrapping posterboard around it because that's the only way to get it right consistantly.
Also, any diameter measurement error is increased by a factor if PI.

How are the holes drilled in fitness equipment such as this? The steel is usually around 11 gauge or so. I was thinking it could be flow drilled with a flush cutter, but the inside of the hole doesn't have the telltale build up.

Rate my first attempt at a vambrace. Not sure if I like the crease in the front; can I dish that back out or no? I also might just use this as a test piece for other techniques like fluting and stuff since the steel is only 22g and useless as armor.

I want to try a pauldron next, again in 22g until I get the hang of it better. How necessary is a ball or dishing stump for a piece like this? I only have a shitty Harbor Freight anvil and 16/32 oz ball peins.

far too little planishing. you've got the bag of marbles texture going on all over it. thicker stuff will help there, though.

crease isnt ideal at all.
Taper on the vanbrace as a whole is a bit narrow, unless you're thick wristed and no forearm. Generally, you dont want to have it absolutely straight - real armour has curves, every element is flowing - look at how this one curves rather than being straight. Look at the real stuff as much as you can.

it may be crappy, but I'd also emphasise, finish it. that includes making hinges and strapping. that will teach you important skills for later.

While its good to try rolling, remember rolling every edge isnt always right. Unless your name is blankenshield...

the upper roll may well be superfluous. in fact i would be inclined to say its too deep and square. real ones should have more angling to the edge, so you dont get armour-bites when you pull the elbow in. currently, that's likely to bite into the inner elbow.

The Armour Archives are your friend, you will learn a shit-load there.

Hey /diy/, I have a strange problem that plumbers seem unable to solve. Basically I've determined that water gets contaminated when it's running through the water heater and acquires this strange odor. I know this because I can smell the odor when hot water is running, but not cold water. To ensure that the water isn't contaminated before it gets to the water heater, I've taken some cold water and heated it up on the stove to see if the heat was what was activating the smell. Since that water didn't smell, I figured it must be the water heater.

So with that preface, I will dump pictures of my water heater because, although I've tried to do my own research already, I really don't know what I'm doing or what I should do. I read about replacing the sacrificial anode (it's a gas heater), but I can't even find it on the water heater. One of the plumbers I talked to said to try tightening the gas line, but I don't think that is the problem and I wouldn't even know how to do that anyway.

Honestly I couldn't tell you. I've read that it could be hydrogen sulfide, in which case it would smell like rotten eggs. But it doesn't smell like rotten eggs exactly. It definitely smells bad, but apparently not even everyone can smell it. So the ability to smell whatever it is may be genetic. Maybe its just a very slight rotten egg smell?
