Start asking people if they would pay you to diy stuff for them, like diy yard work or building a shed. But for other people, then they pay you for it be ause you saved them time doing a thing they didn't actually want to do.

Nice enough shape, but would have personally run the grind higher up towards the spine.
Cuts out a lot of weight from the blade, gives it a better cutting geometry for slicing and doesn't lose any strength

So I recently bought another jack adapter for my Iphone 7 and it keeps giving me the same problems, cuts out and often changes to work on one side of the headphones. Why does it break and how to fix this?

I have cleaned the port, but I noticed that after some movements with the cable I got all sides working, but then suddenly it goes back to one side working.

if it is not the cable, it is the phone or the headphone, if you are smart you know what to do

What's the best way to deal with soda blasting fallout in the back yard? Last time I used the soda blaster I worked in a tub that caught most of the soda that didn't float away in a cloud, but after that I carelessly hosed it out and ended up with a patch of dead grass thinking that it would be more or less harmless. What can I do to treat the residue before dumping it? Aside from making a giant science-fair volcano with vinegar I was thinking of just putting it in a tub of water and leaving it to sit for a while.

Really want to do some large projects but I don't have an enclosed space to catch all the dust, so it would be nice if I could come up with a responsible way to do it in the open and not poison everything around me.

Dissolve in water, add cleaning vinegar till it's neutral and put it down the drain?
>>

you are thinking pressure washing i.e. just water

>treat the residue
mix with an acid to neutralize it i.e. citric acid

>leaving it to sit for a while

I live in a dorm room. Pretty tight on space. I have a turntable, preamp, amp, and speakers. I know that the turntable and speakers shouldn't be on the same surface, but that causes me a problem. If they're not on the same surface, they have to be across the room from one another. I don't particularly feel like running a 25 foot RCA cable across my room, so I want to use bluetooth or FM radio.

Would it be a better idea to connect my preamp's RCA out to a 3.5mm FM transmitter and listen to it through the FM radio of my amp, or to use bluetooth instead? Should I buy premade parts off Amazon and just connect them up or is this practical to wire myself? This is /diy/, after all.

Thanks for the help everyone!

OP, would not FM Transmitter in a dorm, you gonna interfere (or get interfered with) something, guaranteed. BT, better quality, less interference. Just buy some chinese shit (sender/receiver), its all the same - then, you can also use BT headphones etc. if needed.
>>
>>1141240
Okay. I'm a novice at bluetooth, how would I connect my turntable/amp to a bluetooth transmitter? My turntable and amp both use RCA

>inb4 solder it

I know to solder it, but all the schematics I've found for transmitters use single TX out and single RX in, and RCA is split left/right.

Alright /diy/ hold on to your hats, this is a doozy.

The problem can be divided in two for a better understanding:

1- (Pic related). I need to move a piston in and out of a tube (5cm ID) a couple of centimeters (10max). The piston however can not rotate. So I have used a threaded rod with rotating nut (picture of rode comes in next post). The threaded rod is grinded/Cut on a side (so the threads are cut). This cut area is then used to prevent the rotation of the rod. To move the piston up and down I rotate the nut.

This already works, however:
- The threaded rod has a metric thread, which is not so ideal for linear motion.
- There is only one cut area, so when you change directions, there is some backslash. I want to use two cut areas on opposing sides of the rod.
- I need to repeat the setup twice. The first time was an expensive custom CNC job.

So I want to use an acme-threaded rod or a leadscrew this time.

My doubts are:
- Will the same principle work with an acme/trapezoidal threading?
- Will it work even if I use TWO cut areas?

Pic is of the threaded rod we are using right now, the custom CNC job.

2- Is it possible to 3D print the whole screw setup?

We will have a pressure of about 3 bar inside the column, so about 60kg on the hypothetical plastic screw,
>>
By the way, how is this called?

I have tried looking for "stationary leadscrew" or "cut static thread"
>>
>There is only one cut area, so when you change directions, there is some backslash.
What does the "flat" have to do with backlash?
1)Is the rod still turning a bit?
Are you turning it by hand by hand or is there some other reason you need to reduce backlash? 2)Why is the backlash a problem?
3)Why not use a guide rod or two like cnc linear drives?

An actual pic of the setup or an explanition of the purpose would be helpful.

I want to make a mold to press heated HDPE into 4x8 sheets.

Ideas on the mold? Ideas on heating the HDPE evenly without costing more than it's worth?

>>
Don't they normally use a screw to compress the pellets until they're molten then inject it into a mold? If you had a strong enough press you should be able to use the force of the press alone to turn the pellets molten.
>>
>>1140906
Yeah I don't have any of that. I was thinking like C-clamps and some plywood
>>
I've seen guys make little blocks of it, but to make a 4x8 foot sheet would be pretty ambitious. MDO plywood might give you a non stick surface if you sprayed it with some kind of release agent. Like Pam or something

I found a raven's skull and would like to make it into a necklace with stones and coyote canines. The skull is of course very fragile and I was wondering what the best way would be to protect and strengthen it for wearing. I think encasing it in some kind of clear resin would work but I've never done anything like this before. Any suggestions?

And yes, I've searched online already. I'm just hoping for advice from someone who has worked with different types of resin since I don't know how strong it is.
I don't know how I'd make a mold so I figure I'd get close and then dremel out the parts I can, then sand to make it clear again?
>>

Check out Peter Brown's channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3CrzXzBFVqEopj5T1jiRtA
He covers all sorts of things in epoxy and you might get a good idea of it's strength, especially as he turns them on a lathe. He uses two types of resin, polyester and epoxy, each used for different purposes.

It sounds like you need polyester resin, you won't have to layer it and it turns out very clear (without bubbles), though it smells like a bitch so better get a chemical mask.
>>
>>1140852
Cool channel, thanks man.

Watching his epoxy knife video I saw that when epoxy is thin it looses strength considerably. It was thicker than I would want over the skull and he was able to make it soft and malleable with only the heat from his fingers. He mentioned acrylic, though, which I'm looking into now.

hi /diy/ I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Looking to get into CNC, mostly aluminum and plastics and I'm torn on whether or not to get the conversion kit for my mini mill or to buy a 3040 machine off ebay and upgrade the spindle and electronics. Does anyone have any experience with those to let me know how they are?

How good's your mini-mill, and what kind of work area do you need? Budget?

Your "pic related", along with the average aluminum "CNC mill" is really more of a CNC router. Good for softer sheet goods, not so hot for smaller, bulkier, harder parts.

6040 owner here. It's hot swamp ass. Do not recommend. I've done extensive upgrading to it, including replacing the flimsy faggot rail extrusion bed with a solid 1/2 in tooling plate and mounting it on a 150lb cast iron surface plate to damp vibrations. Had to buy a smoothstepper to get around nonexistent 64 bit parallel port driver for mach 3. Does ok as an engraving machine. Really struggles to mill aluminum and leaves horrid surfaces. Might be ok for plastic or wood. Dealing with the chinese is a fucking nightmare. Manual is in chingy chongy engrish and pin assignments are wrong.

Buy a bridgeport.
>>
>>1140811
I'm on a literal shoestring. Maybe 2k. I've seen some vids of the 3040 and 6040 doing some decent aluminum though not too sure. I also don't have to be very precise. It can be about .5 mm off maybe a little more

Hey /diy/ I'm looking at pressure gauges for my high pressure aeroponics since I don't want to do the stupid sprayers at low pressure.

Let's say I want to hit the sweet spot of 30psi on 1inch pvc. Is this measured different on the regulator since it is smaller size? or am I thinking incorrectly?

I was assuming if the regulator has a 1/4inch hose and the pvc is 4 times that, it'll have lower psi than what the gauge says? I have no idea

thanks for any help
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1140784
The pressure will drop from one end of the 1" sprayer line to the other. The drop depends on the port sizes. Put the gauge where in the line you want the 30PSI (beginning, middle end) and adjust the regulator accordingly.
>>
>>1140784

The PSI will be the same regardless of whatever diameter of material you use...
>>
>>1140805
Only if the regulator can keep up with demand.

Didn't know whether to put this here or on /fit/, but here goes:
I have an old russian barbell in my garage gym, and it's an olympic type with knurl marks 91cm apart. I want to get a dual knurl mark like on some of Rogue's barbells, but I don't have access to a lathe and I'm not particularly keen on taking it apart and having a machine shop doing it. Is there any way I could do this at home without fucking it up completely?

Simply put. No. Because even if you could.. It would need to be rechromed. Wrap some hockey stick tape around it or something for grip.

I think you misunderstood, the grip is fine and the knurling's still good, I need another ring like in pic related since I intend to bench with the bar aswell.

Use a hand kneeling tool.
You should be able to do it at home with a little skill
