Been reading about various forms of hydroponics.

Fogponics/Aeroponics piqued my interest after hearing about it's effeciency.

Combined with the effeciency of a geodesic dome (heating lighting). This would seem like a pretty amazing setup.

Theoretically it would be possible to even include growing holes in the structure of the greenhouse.

A big problem would be ensuring proper circulation of the vapour and keeping the system clean.

Am i retarded or a genius? Pic related.

this is not a question of retarded or genius, this is not an idea at all, this is just words thrown together, so between the two probably retarded
>>
>>1142247
The idea is to incorporate hydroponics into the structure of the greenhouse. I haven't seen anyone do it but not many people are doing fogponics. If you do not understand the words I've thrown together don't comment, or ask for an explanation.

>The idea is to incorporate hydroponics into the structure of the greenhouse
that is about as good an idea as incorporating explosives into the structure of the washing machine, the big problem would be circulation of water and keeping it clean, see anyone can throw together words like this but it doesn't mean you are making any sense

Is there anyway to mill a cylinder block out by hand(on a vertical mill)? Or are they only done by cnc?

that's impossible. the first engines were made possible after the advent of CNC technology (1950s)

The machine shop near me doesn't use CNC.

CNC in machine shops are still pretty uncommon unless they are more like contract factories than a machine shop.

Is there a way to hide the red of IR cameras?

I have indoor/outdoor IR camera's outside my house but the IR's are so red you can easily see them in the dark.

I don't want people to see them (mostly because then they will know which areas have blind spots or try to break/disable them).

anyway to do this or is there any type of security camera that has IR but isn't so noticeable?

The cameras are using a low-wavelength IR light. In order to change that you need to change the IR LEDs.

http://www.coparatech.com/ir_faq.htm

>Q. 800nm, 850nm, 900nm, what do all these numbers mean and why should I care?

>A. 800nm, 850nm, etc., refers to the wavelength in nanometers of the actual beams emitted from the LED. Really the only things that are important to know about these numbers for night-vision use is this: The lower the number, the more visible to the human eye the light is. 800nm-860nm are still fairly invisible. You can't see the beams, but you can detect a faint pink glow from the LEDs when you look directly at them. LEDs in the 900nm range are completely invisible but appear as weaker light to IR capable camcorders. We experimented with all ranges and found the 850nm IR LEDs to be the brightest for use with night-vision camcorders.
>>
>>1142200
>>1142206

You can swap out all the LED's for longer wavelength ones like anon said. Or build an illuminator that uses longer wavelength LED's and more of them. 940nm is what I used when the local PD wanted an invisible IR illuminator for a bait car (had to custom fit in the dome light housing for stealth, didn't have to be overly bright because it was so near the suspect's face as was the camera.)

hey /diy/

how do I tap out about an inch hole in plastic? It's not too thick and it feels like ABS

it's for my old fightstick, I'm going to mod it with a modern pcb that supports all the new consoles so I can use it with my pc and ps4 instead of buying a new one, the hole is for the usb port- the usb port housing needs just shy of an inch in diameter to fit (and then 2 small screw holes but that's not going to be any big deal compared to something around an inch)

really don't want this to crack, what kind of bit should I use? Or should I just try to melt it with a soldering iron (will be sloppy, but at least it won't crack)

drill a series of hole in the shape of a circle and the cut it out with a knife
>>
>>1142179
I never thought about that

what about

1. drill a pilot hole

2, get a hole saw and run it on a very low speed just to scratch out an outline of my hole

3. heat up a paring knife with the stove and cut it out

would this be the best way?
>>
>>1142180

Run the hole saw in reverse would work better desu...

Sup /diy/

I bought an Iomega Zip drive for $2 at Goodwill and I want to use it as a keycard lock system for my cargo container.

Example: I insert a zip disk into the drive, the drive is connected to a thinkpad,, the disk has the authentification hash, the thinkpad unlocks the container from inside.

Floppy disks are EXTREMELY unreliable.
>>
>>1141900
floppys are pretty reliable, in comparison to Zips - if iomega didnt actually invent the phrase 'click of death', they certainly did more than anyone else to popularise it. I am not seeing benefits of introducing Zip drives to your proposed setup, nope.

tldr, you depending Zips as electronic key? - better pray you ain't locked inside.
>>
>>1141908

I'm not gonna be the one locked inside it.

Fuck near had a tornado and one of my many monkey trees fell on my shitty garage. I would like to fix it myself as the deductible is $1,000 and i assume the materials are cheaper just to fix it. Wanted some constructionbros 2 cents tho.

I've helped build a few houses but was mostly just labor.

I'm assuming i can just jack the roof back up and put some 2x4 against the busted and rotted ones if i can find anything to screw to.

Then just rip out fucked up shingles and nail others on over new sheeting or boards?

I'd like to go with tin over it soon and a small leak here or there is nothing. Its just storage and the fucking floor to ceiling shelves i built are probably holding it up. Not even sure how big it is but it has a dirt floor.

My house is a shithole with new tin roof and paint.

Would it be worth fixing the garage with shingles? Fixing and getting tin and paint to match the house for resale? Or should i just throw my shit away and haul the building off?

Have access to free dump truck and backhoe use.

Disposal will be a bonfire or bury it ina pasture.

A very rough guess would be 14x30 feet in size and wtf ever common pitch is on roof.

Thanks for any advise besides kms or OP is a faggot.

There are about 6 holes in total and these are the worst. Been meaning to repair the leaky fucker as it is but bills piled up.

There should be a metal supply shop you can contact in your area...

In most cases, they can cut to your lengths, punch, drill...all for you...
>>
>>1141706

Why not simply add a properly shaped block of wood on the underside? You seem to have room for something like 5x5x20cm block, this should make the connection plenty rigid.

What's the best cloth material to wear when grinding stuff?

Hello 4chings

Anybody ever encourtered this?

I bought one of these rgb strips to put in my bimmer, you know the halo's angel eyes call them however you want.

The problem is the strips arent changing color when i press the buttons. I can turn it on and off

But the rest of the functions are dead.

Did i fuck up the wiring?

I am a poor slav and i aint got a phone with a decent camera to take real pictures so id appreciate some random advice on where to look for the problem.

DON'T MAKE YOUR FIRST PLANE. Pick up a ready to fly (includes transmitter) or bind & fly (requires separate transmitter).

I'm raising soldier flies and redworms. I want to build a wooden box to house them. i assume pretty much all wood will rot in the nutrient rich substrate they live in so i'd like to coat the interior with some sort of sealant. polyurethane perhaps? trouble is most of these products exude poison while they're curing and they can leach stuff that the bugs might be sensitive to into the substrate.

what coating will prevent rot and not kill bugs?

>>
>>1141542
in the 21 century these are almost exclusively done in plastic or glass boxes
>>
>>1141545
lots of people make wooden boxes for them out of plywood or OSB. this for example. but something tells me soaking it in nitrate rich waste reduces the service life significantly.

I'd like to keep it outside and it frosts here sometimes which is why i'd be building it out of wood, so I can have a two layer box and fill it with spray foam for insulation. wood is much cheaper than glass and has superior insulation properties $/area
>>
>>1141542
Fiberglass resin probably. Don't even need fiber glass fibers. An old bedsheet will work good to. Just the resin.an fiber glass resin. NOT epoxy.
