So I wanna build a carport. Live in the middle of nowhere Tx so don't have to worry about permits or shit like that. My neighbor left his wife here while he went oil rigging, didn't really see her and the wife finally left. They left a carport there and it's been months since they've been back. Went over and realized i want one.

How would one make one and what would be the cost? I don't need it to be flashy just something to keep the cars out of the damn sun and wind.

How many cars do you have? I'd build it so you have at least a couple feet of space between each car and the wall. I'd throw on some wooden walls for protection from the sun/wind etc. Concrete or gravel for the floor, whichever you prefer. For the main supports, I would probably use metal piping or something like that, so you won't have to replace them in 10 years. This site has some decent info : http://diyinahour.com/diy/building-a-carport/

We have 3 but it'll just be for 2. Gravel seems like the easier option (farm land so as long as it's not muddy it's fine) . Thanks for the info and the site I"ll check it out.

My neighbor put up a carport and the whole thing was destroyed by Pittsburgh wind within a year. Next they got a thick boxed metal one and it has been here like 6 years now. Pic is not theirs but similar. If you buy a big one for multiple cars then be sure there is thick steel.

So after a shipping error in my favor, I now have 8 brushless motors. I did my best to identify them, and I think they are these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8X-3DR-IRIS-T-Motors-MN2213-950kv-Brushless-Motors-NEW-4CW-4CCW-/252775329483?hash=item3ada956ecb:g:ZiwAAOSw241Yifhs

Since I have these motors, and a FlySky FS-i6 tx. (I'll have to get a i6b rx for it) I figured I could get into building a quadcopter. What kind of "wingspan" could I get with these motors? I guess all I need to figure out is what control board and ESC's would work. Any tips to get me pointed in the right direction?

here is a good website to start:

hey /diy/ I'm doing custom baseboard for my house (slowly, just in my spare time) and I have 2 things I want opinions on:

1) baseboard design. I already have a good router and router table I just need to pick the bits.

2) finish nailer. I need to buy one. Is there any reason to look at any company besides paslode? Also isn't just a 16 guage good enough for everything? I guess I would use an 18 for the shoe molding if I had one, but I don't think it's necessary to get a whole kit of finish nailers if I can get away with using the 16 everywhere.

>>1149197
1) Wrong tool. Look into a shaper. Unless your baseboards are tiny and not like your picture.

2) Overkill bro. What you are looking for is called a "hammer", not a finish nailer. You want one with a smooth face and probably about 12 oz. Then get a nail sink of the right size of the nail heads you plane to use. If you plan on staining the baseboards, apply the putty over the nail heads *after* you stain. Make sure it matches the stain. If you plan on painting the baseboard, apply the putty before you paint.
>>
>>1149213

Listen to this man. Finish nailers are for lazy degenerates and jam all the fucking time (ugh..).

Yeah I thought about getting a shaper, but it's overkill for my situation. I will go with whatever (most elaborate) design I can get away with using the router. I'm planning on painting it, so no staining should be needed. I only have 8' ceilings so I can really only go with a total height of 6" for the baseboard.

Today I found that the car battery was either dead or discharged. I just talked to a technician and he ended up taking it to check it out and will either bring me the same one or a new one.

I would like some help from people that know their stuff on finding what could've caused this and why:

- The car hadn't been used in around 3 weeks. During this time nothing happened to it.

- I noticed something strange and this been puzzling me: Theres this disk player thing below the stereo where you would insert the CD through a little entrance. When I got on I noticed it was on and said entrance was opening and closing automatically, also all the lights on the Disk tray were turning on and off, this happened non stop. It also made the sound as if it was trying to read a disk every time the disk tray thing opened.

- Whenever I inserted the key and tried to turn them the Disk player I mentioned above would shut down and stop its continuous movement. Also, once I rotated them fully (to turn the car on) the same thing happened, Disk player would stop its continuous work.

- The battery is almost brand new. It was acquired last year around June. Since then, no issue's been had.

- No other thing was turned on inside the car. Only the disk player thing. This wasn't turned on by me last time I used the car. Like I said, It didn't even work.

Thats pretty much it.

What could've been the cause of this battery malfunction?

Why is it that I found that disk player working continuously? Could it be the cause of the battery discharge? Or is this something that happens when a battery fails (it could turn on certain things inside the car, etc)?

Could 3 weeks of not turning on the car cause the dead of a battery?

Help?

>>
>>1148984

3 Weeks generally won't kill a new battery but it is getting on the border of how long you would want to go without starting it or trickle charging it.

Obviously the stereo has been cycling on and off and this has fucked your battery. It might be a shitty earth somewhere, or some other loose wire.

Unless the battery is a deep cycle one, its fucked, get a new one.
>>
>>1148997

So I am having some trouble here, kind of a chicken or the egg thing.

Could the battery failure have triggered this disk player malfunction? Or did the disk player malfunctioned somehow and this discharged the battery?

Also, related to your first point, why does not using the car could discharge a battery?
>>
>>1148984
>Could 3 weeks of not turning on the car cause the dead of a battery?

Depending on what make and model the cars is, yes.
Newer cars have electronics connected to the battery and drawing a small amount of power at all times.

The CD player issue is probably related to the low voltage. It changed while you were trying to start the car because the key position affects accessories and because with the low battery any change in the key position changed the minimal voltage left.

Use it more often or put a maintainer on it when it's stored.

New video alerts are what keep me going through the work day, knowing I'll get to come home to a cool project video or a vivisection of some hapless tool.

Seriously though it is genuinely pleasant to listen to a personable trade share their knowledge while also being one who has the humility to say when he doesn't know something (and request the viewers provide their own insight in order to learn more). The discourse is the comments is often fantastic and the channel as a whole is a fantastic example of skill in practice and refusing to stagnate. Of course I'm a little inebriated and maybe talking out of the bottom of my bottle, but I like the guy.

The lingo is choice too. It reminds me of something between Red Green, old old TLC/etc educational channel shows, and maybe Mike Rowe but way more unfiltered. It'd be way less entertaining if he were picked up by some network and watered down/cleaned up. Everybody has a price no matter how proud they are but he's nearing 1 million subs and hasn't sold out yet. I'm gonna continue to enjoy it while it lasts.

But I have been completely addicted to his videos lately, old stuff too is great.

He also makes me realize how much of knowledge I lack.

Learn Verilog, in laymen's terms, it's a language that produces schematics that can then be uploaded to an FPGA board.
Also, ripple carry is slow, you can simplify the truth table for 4bit addition to make a much faster adder.

There are people who've built simple processors out of 7400 series chips, but it takes a LOT of time, and ends up being pretty expensive.

Look at things like this for examples though: http://cpuville.com/

I think there's an old fashioned webring on his site even. You can find more examples from there.

BUT, if I wanted to do this, I'd look at getting a hobbiest level FPGA from one of the Chinese junk sites.

Pic related will let you play with an awful lot of things from openrisc to spark, old CPUs architectures, and your own designs.

I have a 2000 s10 with chevy lean. Last summer I did the front suspension and steering. To correct the lean i put a 1.5" rubber spacer under the spring. That brought the front end up to almost level but the back driver side is now noticeably sagging compared to the other corners.

Instead of buying new springs I was thinking of getting a pair of Hellwig 550 helper springs and using them to level it out. Would I be able to bring one side up by tightening it's helper down more?

you want to put a door directly in front of another door?

stop fucking around OP. just dangle a sheet of beads in the doorway like you know youre going to do anyway.

ok so heres my dilemma:

i want to find a box that i can get like 30+ of. I want it to have a hinged lid of some sort. It needs to be a certain inside dimension, and then the outside should be no bigger than it needs to be. The dimensions i need are remarkably close to cigarette case dimensions. so i looked at a bunch of those and nothing really works plus im worried about incompatability like if the corners are rounded inside then my interior dimension isnt right.

i started looking at maybe trying to get something custom made on a website but that seemed real confusing.

i want a box metal or plastic- something durable but thin, similar to pic related, but with the internal dimensions of 100mm tall 70mm wide 30mm deep with some kind of hinged overlapping lid. can u recommend how i can either produce or procure this item, keeping in mind that id like 30 of them so if its 100 each im not trying to spend 3000 on a pile of boxes but at the same time i dont want to just make boxes out of duct tape like some third worlder- i do have money.

is 3d printing an option im failing to consider i assume it might be too brittle and maybe not capable of producing durable hinges

also i would really love to have color options if not every case a unique color so consider that as well.

help plz and thanks in advance

So the easy way to go would be thin gauge metal like 20 to 22 gauge steel. Make a template for both bodies that you can brake to the shape with tight tolerances. For the lid I would buy the small hinges from those tiny craft boxes and rivet that to your lid and your bottom. They you can paint to whatever finish you like.

so basically can i do something liek pic related in a break or would i end up needing to make the body 2 pieces each to make a full box

im trying to imagine doing the final bends with the other sides of the box in the way possibly?

any other methods i could try that wouldnt require a break

would finishing a metal box be more difficult than a plastic option, i dont want it to look like shit and i want to make a lot of them
>>
I can only really speak for the 3d printing part. I don't know exactly what this is for and what physical properties it would need, but I would not worry about a *WELL DESIGNED* part breaking. You can print hinges in place pretty easily, too. Again, I don't know what sort of forces we're talking about, but it's really easy/cheap to get a mockup made by some nerd on the interweb.

you can learn welding in three weeks if you spend all day everyday watching youtube videos and practice a whole lot

I got a hole in the metal tube part on my cars aluminum radiator. It's big enough that it pees antifreeze out in a little stream.

I want to repair the hole. I have silver rosin core solder for electronics and a little butane blow torch. I know dick all about soldering.

Anyways, is this kind of solder okay to use on aluminum? Do I need flux? I tried experimentally soldering it already and it just beaded instantly and dribbled off the hole so idk.

Any tips would be appreciated.
