So the trigger switch is sticking on my Milwaukee angle grinder cat.#4161. I've found a replacement switch for $16 before shipping, which I don't want to pay. I don't know shit about electronics so my question is; can this switch be disassembled and cleaned, and if not is there a cheap chinese replacement that won't cost me $20?
Here's a picture of her guts and the switch in question.
>>1157285
take the goddamn switch apart and try to clean it. even if you fuck it up, you're not out anything. did you even try looking at replacement switches online? What are the voltage/current/temperature requirements of your switch?
>>1157299
Shot a squirt of ballistol into the plunger on the switch and it isn't sticking any more. Must have been clogged up with grinder dust.
Thanks for the reply anon. I'll delete this thread tomorrow.
Noob electrical question. I just moved into an old house and was told that it doesn't any grounded outlets (most are still 2 prong). At some point, several of the outlets were converted to three prong. I have plugged a simple ground tester into them and get nothing. It is a very basic tester. If it lights up, there is a ground. No light, no ground. In the kitchen and the bathroom, there are GFCI outlets. When I plug the tester into them it shows them as having a ground. Would the outlet being GFCI cause my tester to show them as having a ground?
take the face plate off and look.
an unshielded wire is what you are looking for
>>1157283
Not an electrician, but GFCI shouldn't interfere with detecting ground. What happens in some old houses with 2-prong outlets is that they're replaced with 3-prong GFCI outlets to give you a margin of safety despite having no ground. What they SHOULD have is a sticker that comes with the outlets that you slap on that says "NO GROUND". I'm guessing they got lazy and left the stickers off.
If it comes down to it, just pull the plate off and look inside at the wiring.
Sticking two butter-knives into the plugs is a good way to test. link them together with a wire of some kind, plug them in, and remove the wire. If there is a small arc of electricity, it's not grounded. If nothing happens, its grounded.
> Buying a shit hole house on the cheap
So I want to buy this house that will need gutted in a neighborhood I want. The house is bank owned currently. They want $53k. The house is really worth like $25k in the state it is in. From my little understanding of mortgages, I can't even get a real mortgage for under $50k. Say I get my jew curls out and get them down to $30k for the property. I could pay it in cash, but I would be strapped for improvement money. Can you get a mortgage for something like (Price of House) + (some more money for improvments) ?
Construction loan.
I did the same thing OP. I paid cash for a POS house on 5 acres. It was a foreclosure. Instead of tearing it down like I originally intended I decided to extensively rebuild it. I added a second story without changing the original roofline, and added on the back with a new basement as well.
Anyway, I used a construction loan and borrowed whatever I needed when I bought materials. I paid interest on whatever I currently owed, and once the house was completed I switched everything over to a conventional loan. Everything went very smooth, but I would imagine that depends on your bank and the relationship you have.
Good luck
>>1157164
What about a FHA 203 loan?
>>1157156
A lot of people in the real estate bussiness have partners. If you have any investor friends. If you buy all the tools to flip one house you might as well flip another.
I have a 17 Jewel Poljot Watch from before the fall of the USSR here, and the second hand fell of in the glass. All I need to do to fix it is remove the mechanism from the case and reafix it, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the crown and stem. What screws do I have to undo, or is that tiny silver dot supposed to be pressed? I tried with a needle, but I don't want to force it.
>inb4 take it to a jeweler.
This is DIY.
>>1157104
Here is the front of the watch in case you need further help in identifying. (I went ahead and just removed the second hand from the case so I could continue using the watch.)
>>1157104
It's the little button directly below where the stem enters the movement, but the crown has to be pulled out to the correct position for the mechanism to work.
Don't know what that position is so just fucking try them all.
>>1157117
Mission Accomplished.
Thank you very much!
So I got curious about what type of laser cutters are half way reasonably available to consumers. Does anyone have any recommendations in the <$1000 range or is everything there still dogshit?
It's all dogshit, though some at least include some OK parts. Nothing is better than 'good starter kit for building something more complete'.
>>1156840
Not sure but please get one that laser etches plexiglass. I have a billion projects requiring this and potential resources to make us some money. If not i can hook u up with some cool painted shit and a little cash. Maybe a pair of tickets to fight night and a beer if u near tulsa oklahoma
>>1156840
Live near a decent sized city? Find a makerspace or check the library. Several around me have lasers. The library will usually only be operated by an employee, you can't actually touch it. Makerspace tends to be pretty much free reign (except techlab, those guys are anal retentive as fuck.)
Ask a Bosch/Wera fanboy anything.
No, I'm not German.

Could you just stop making worthless threads?

how do i stop drinking?
it's starting make my dick flaccid.
no joke i can't go a weekend without pounding 60 beers.
i beat my wife one time, and then threw a brick at my dog.
i'm alone now. probably for the best.
she has a restraining order and won't let me see my child.
how could someone do that to the father of their child?
it's not fair.
i might kill myself one day.
If I want to learn more about basic maintenance for cars is diesel a good start? My car doesn't use it, but it's the only class that's offered in my area.
It's also the requirement for the more advance classes.
If you just want to learn basic maintenance then youtube has more than enough information. You'd be surprised how much you learn just by tinkering with you engine.
>>1156651
This. Deisle is a cock but there is money to be made. My buddy makes more on 5 hour days in his garage than i do with overtime.
Protip.
Hotrodders and race car drivers will learn u more than any memeschool.
>>1156575
>>1156651
This guys got it. You dont need a class for basic maintenance. Just research, watch some youtube videos, and when its time for some maintenance on your car, if you think you can handle it, do it yourself. A service manual isnt necessary for most simple stuff, but is a good investment if you want to do more or if you dont have a good owners manual.
If you want to go more in depth, you could buy some cheap shitbox off craigslist or whatever and wrench on that. Diesels arent too awful different when it comes to most real basic maintenance stuff, but once you get a little more into it, they are pretty damn different.
Before you autists start shreiking about shippi g containers i know a man who has lived underground for over 50 years in a concret bunker he made.
Also, i have access to dirtworking equipment.
I wish to live on an underground mansion.
More of a /biz question i know, but i hate that pump and dump scam ran by the mods...
How would you profit from a bunker?
I wish to use all profit from the business to expand the bunker until i die. I am 31 uears old and already have 1 llc under my belt.
Only thing i can think of is underground food storage.
Problem is tho there isnt much need for that here.
It is close to a large floral that may rent seasonally. But i dont know.
Any other ideas?
>pic kinda related. Hat tip to bunkerbro
>>1156550
you left out the most important detail.
where the fuck is it
cool fucking project dude, don't know what you are asking for though.
how you will save money by living in the bunker?
you could make money by offering it as a nuke storage for the russians
>>1156550
>underground food storage
wut?
PAGING MARY JANE BUNKER ANON - Guy that bought the house with ex-military bunker that was busted as a farm? If you readin, any updates? cheers!
>How would you profit from a bunker?
eh, legally, you mean? Wanna be rich with a bunker, start off very rich, I guess - everyone seems to go for datacentres n shit, food? maybe mushrooms or something, doubt the resulting climate would be great to actually live in tho.
found this awesome schematic on how to make audio output selector.can a pot be added to control the volume before dpdt switch? Thanks
this assembly is to enable both headphones and speakers to be connected all the time
>>1156468
If you're going to drive speakers and headphones, not really. It isn't impossible or anything, but the results are crap.
what if a pot is added to one of the lines only? just to enable volume control for headphones
Somebody knows how to remove this thing?
>>1156372
wd40 the whole area, unscrew the knob then knipex the shit
>>1156376
Worked, now we need to turn the whole thing but it's stuck
>>1156393
wd40 the whole area, hit with hammer
I want this sofa badly, unfortunately it seems that it never went into production.
Any chance I could /diy/ my own ? I have no experience but I suppose the difficult part would be the tunnel
If any anon has any clue on where to begin, my cat and me would be grateful!
>>1156359
the blocks can be just foam
the tunnel bit can be fabric covering some flexible ducting
>>1156359
You'd need some experience in upholstery & sewing, and maybe some woodworking. Not much though. How much are you willing to spend on this? Time, effort (including several attempts and learning/researching), space for working in your home, money for tools and material.
You could also try to rig it together with existing parts. I.e. find a couch that looks similar and attach a standard plastic tube. Or any couch that you can modify.
>>1156361
I think the lower block should be solid for it to be comfortable to sit on.
I don't think my cat would be able to climb that vertical section >_<
I am guessing this is what you call them, the device where you control the temperature and flow of the water in the shower.
I am looking to get a new one and I can't understand the prices.
How come they are so expensive, around 90-150usd?
It's basically just valves to control the flow of the cold/warm water, isn't it?
What am I missing here.
They are hand made by the last remaining member of the Xaitongmoinan order of monks. It must be CNC milled by an ox-powered gear and pulley contraption using an animal of a specific age and temperament. Hand rolled, individually blessed PTFE granules form the seals. Then it must be assembled with telekinesis. Then it is pressure tested by a virgin boy who must swim to the bottom of the Couwomo and attach it to the Void Portal. If the magic holds the water inside the lake, the artifact is complete. If not, the mountain and the Order will fall into the Void and all is lost. This makes them extremely coveted possessions both in mainland China and Hong Kong, where people are known to murder their siblings for one.
>>1156015
It's a luxury, non-consumable, "home-centric" item. They ALWAYS carry a hefty premium. I'm surprised you can find them as cheap as $100, DESU.
>>1156015
Kek. Im about to use 2 shower heads and several gate valves so the wife and i can set shit the way we want and have our own off and ons. Fucking hate my knobs... just gotta find a setup that doesnt look gay or hide my knobs under the sink.
Dunno.
Having a shitty old house sucks dick...
>climb 6ft leader with angle grinder on my hand to grind some paint off outside my house

Damn, it was pretty close guys.
>>1155966
>Leader
Ladder I meant.
>>1155966
>only 6ft
pussy
>>1155985
Oddly enough falls from 6' ladders is one of the leading accidents in construction.
Of course more construction workers are killed on the highways and interstates trying to get to and from, so there's that too.
is squeaking awfully every time i ride. i was said in order to get rid of the noise the pipes of the fork have to be opened, dismantled, regreased and what not.
pic related it's my rather cheapo genesis fork. is this shit even supposed to be openable?
youtube tutorials for some reason only feature the newest top of the line models
also i am not a /n/igger
>>1155943
Lots more pics are needed. There are several different ways they come apart. Take pics of the area where the wheel axel attach to the fork. Also what is inside the "adjuster" caps, a pair channel locks and a rag can take them off fairly easy.
Like you said, it's a cheapo bike. Those forks probably come apart but are really meant to be a throw away part rather than a serviceable one.
Name brand fork will have manuals with diagrams and part numbers for rebuilds.
Best bet for those is to find a second cheapo broken bike with good forks and swap them over. Been a bit since I've been into bikes but should be a standard 1-1/8" steer tube.
>>1155943
On the bottom of one of the stems should be a retension bolt by the axle. Remove it. Fork housing will slide off from the crown and stem posts.
Hi. is it possible to you kind /diy/ sir to identify this board?
I want to know what is on it, what are the main component.
This belong to a project I think FAKE!
Silicon, aluminum, copper and fiberglass. Looks legit to me.
Let's get some number to get the thing easy.
In my opinion:
1 could be sensors and/or regulation
2 some memory for MCU
3 seem to be 48 pins MCU
4 ?? soldering pads for more chip
5 ?? idem 4
>>1155853
Thanks anon we almost there :)
