I have bought four Panasonic NCR18650B,
at the moment I am only using two of them.
How do I properly long store unused 18650 batteries for 6+ months.
-should I store them fully charged or discharge them ?
-I heard temperature degrades batteries, so I'm planning on storing them in my fridge.

Store them about half charged; full charge stresses the anode more. Fridge is good-- it will slow down the chemical/mechanical processes that age the battery.

that will be fine for ~ 6 months, but you can't store them for eg 10 years that way.
>>
>>1157374
Thanks, do you have any reference or paper I could look into ?
>>
>>1157384
do not store your batteries in the refrigerator or freezer... look up J Mooch Muchow on youtube or facebook. he will answer any questions you have... his word is second to none

>>

Put the pointy end in the rivet that holds the friction material to the brake shoe, put the spring in the hook, squeeze it and put it in the hole it goes in. It doesn't work very well. (I made a tool that works better I'll post pic tomorrow cuz it's at work.) The other end has a thing to remove the spring hook from the anchor near the wheel cyl. Put the anchor in the hole, pop the spring off by turning it. The other side has a indent in it. For installing the spring, put the indent on the anchor and use it as the fulcrum to pry the spring and it slides down onto it.

Not something I'm planning to do for a couple years at least, but I wanted to swing it by you guys and see if you thought it was feasible.

What I'd like to do is build something like a giant (like 20,000 liter) thermos. Buy a water tank, stick it underground, insulate the heck out of it. Then I'd run a pipe through it and pump water through it to interior radiators. In summer I'd be pumping cold winter water through my house, in winter, hot summer water.

Quick and dirty googling tells me that with no ambient heat loss, it would do the job quite well. What I'd like to know is what kind of heat retention I might be able to achieve from a very well insulated water tank in a dedicated basement.

Look up geothermal heating. Basically the same thing. It's good for maintaining a stable temp year round, but won't function as climate control unless you add a heater or chiller.

dont' know much about the efficiency though
>>
>>1157255
yes works and as far as i know is done in some houses
>>
>>1157255
Some people do this and run black pipes out into the sun, usually covered in some box. In places where it freezes there is either a heat exchanger with anti-freeze in the outdoor loop or the entire system uses anti-freeze. Some greenhouses use them too; everything from geothermal to Trombe wall.

The main design decision is if you live on flat ground or have access to a hill below your house, if you want to use solar. If your house is on a hill you can use passive solar (thermosiphon) to pump the water from the solar heaters into the water tank and into your house. No electric pump is needed with such a system, you just need to use large diameter pipe and as few elbows as possible. If you don't have a hill to use, you'll need to use an electric water pump.

I want to learn about hydroponics.Everything including what kinds of lights to use, PH balances, best nutrients and setup architecture etc.

The idea is to turn 4 tiny old shacks into indoor gardens. Because I may invest in this kinds of setups in the future I want to do this right to maximize yields.

Where can I learn about this? Is there a goto book or source?

All I know is that you need strong lights, certain spectrum range LEDS will do great for plant growth, maybe cut some skylights, and even better, would be to do aquaponics, where you have a few fish in the bottom, and water pumps from the fish enclosure, up to the top where the plants are, and back down, could get costly for startup though

But I have a micro setup of what you are doing, just a single koi tank with a Pickerel Weed growing in it, it specifically is a pond plant meant for maximum growth in water. In our fish-less pond it grows maybe an inch a week, in the tank it has grown 2 inches per day (combined inches from all stalks, all one plant though).

No lights in my tank, just next to a window. Koi is very happy, plant is very happy.

I share officespace with a startup that's been doing this for a few years now.

'old shack' needs to be a 'well sealed, climate controlled, and super clean shack' first. Else you'd be better with a 'LED supplemented greenhouse' approach.

The 'metro' style restaurant shelving shown in your pic related is kinda shitty for cleaning. The company also makes a plastic version that is easier to wipe down. If you have space, I think the normal standardized warehouse pallet shelving is the way to go. The building inspector people will freak out less as it's already built to code(s) if you want commercial scale.

You'll need some bulk HPDE containers, quality ball valves/pipes, lots of pumps and plenty of spares for *un)scheduled maintenance, Alex Jones tier water filtration, etc.

But basically just read all the existing NASA research (adding *.gov to you Google queries) and youtube will get you most of the way intellectually. The real battle is keeping things clean and well organized.

That's pretty sweet anon.

I daydream often about having an outside aquarium of sorts built for an aquaponics feedback loop to grow 'pretty' stuff rather than edible stuff. Something like you'd see at a well funded zoo. Basically a tank butted against a large pane window so I can sit in the comfy ac with my pets and watch fish/frogs/turtles do whatever it is they do, have some weird water features, and have this area walled off from the rest of 'nature'....possible on a second story. I haven't quite worked out what the best way to butt the two panes of glass together yet ... but one can dream.

You typically get better grip and therefore better torque on those rubber handles. They don't last more than a few years of heavy use, but they're better for the hobbyist (or corporate shill). It's planned redundancy, you see. If you can get your dirty dick-beaters on a set of these, you'll be set for life as long as you don't leave your soldering iron too close to them.

If you eat a pear while smelling banana, it will taste like banana. Scents have a major effect on taste, your brain is likely transposing the smell onto the taste. No way paint could be in the pipes, just ride it out till the paint stench goes.

Hey /diy/ first time posting here. I can only assume this is the right board for this, if not my apologies.
The longest guide comb I had was 3/4 inch and this was way to short for my liking. So me being cheap, instead of going out and buying a longer guide comb or even just getting my hair cut at the barbers, I decided to make this. It did the job. I didn't measure how long it was it just looked about right. So /diy/ did I do good?

>have 2 gutters that dump water into back yard
>1 gutter on each side of house that dumps into side yard
>yard slopes so this is something i wish to fix

I want to redirect the flow of them with some pipe i plan to burry. Hard line pipe so it only handles rain water from my gutter and not underground water.

The issue is that on one side of the house when i get to the front i will have a total of 4 gutters hooked up and dumping into one pipe.

My fear is that that heavy of waterflow will kill off grass and make a trench in my yard so i was thinking of putting a spilt into my pipe and running flex hose to 3 or 4 different drains that i plan to put in the front of my wifes flower bed.

But im not really sure how to make it work and look good. I dont want to have ugly pipes sitcking out. so i had though of doing somehting like pic related but hooked up to the flex hose. I could paint and bury most of the hose hooking up to the back of it. my concern is that it might not be enough to keep the water from doing damage to my property.

Idk how much room you have to work with but have you considered installing a dry well? It' s a good amount of work but will solve your problem and give you peace of mind.
>>
>>1159981
The backside of my house had some issues with drainage.

I buried a six inch schedule 80 pipe that takes all the down spouts off the back of the house and combines them to a single outlet. past the foundation. To prevent the issue of trenching or damage to the grass it runs off into a gravel pit about 18 inches long.

That and when I buried the pipe I surrounded it with gravel under a stone path to aid in drainage.

You can also use a perforated pipe to reduce the amount of water coming out the end if you want.

So far, even after a hurricane we didn't have any issues from the water damaging the lawn.

depending on your zoning laws, that might require permits or not be allowed at all.

Anyone have experience with versatube.com kit buildings and car ports? Or any other inexpensive structures? You have to give more information
where do you want to "build" it?
is it straight, it it concrete on the ground, can you dig, do you have to follow any building codes, can you weld etc tec
>>
I've just used the cheaper ones and enforced them with spiral screws in the ground and some cables. They tend to work as described, they're not a scam, though salesmen may try to oversell you.
>>
>>1159848

heres a tip: dont build it in any area that has: hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, or any weather where the wind exceeds 30 miles an hour, or you can kiss your k-mart carport goodbye

I have a big whiteboard in my room, and I'm getting friends and random people I meet to sign it. Any ideas on sealing it permanently when I'm done?

I was thinking some kind of clear spraypaint but I don't know exactly what to look for. Any recommendations on that, or other ideas in general?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1159671
the whiteboard is most likely made from melamine. if you want to find a professional way to seal that material, a google search is a click away. With that being said, clear spray paint would probably work
>>
I'm assuming you're getting them to sign it with a "permanent" marker like a Sharpie.

A spray can of clear coat wouldn't work since the solvents in it would diffuse the markings and make it ugly.

I suggest taping over the whiteboard with a large sheet of 2-4mil clear adhesive vinyl.

Have you considered having the people sign a poster board or canvas? Those are much better mediums.
>>
>decent camera + tripod
>frame the shot and take a HQ picture of the board

what cables are they? Worst case, the pinout can be figured out and you can wire up your own. Are there any forums for that machine? You could try and ask for help there.
