Does anybody have experience with security cameras? Should be small and in the best scenario, triggered from door opening in some way, mabye even a motion sensor. Even better, I'd like to do some programming with it. Money is not a big concern.

So
a) I'd like to have some sort of motion sensor or variation that gives of a signal when a door opens
b) I want to have a cam that in standby snaps pics when it gets a signal from me.

Any recommendation what to buy?

you've pretty much described every security camera in existence.

if you wanna go cheap, get an IP baby camera. i have one, an iBaby, which has movement detector in software, and also external connections to wire switches or a movement detector.
but it just transmits data to a PC, it doesnt have storage.

if you want storage as well, then a dual or quad kit from Costco will do the job. make sure it has external alarm inputs, and can be remotely viewed thru wifi or ethernet. these are all standard features nowadays.

Been pretty happy with my Hikvision IP cams.
PoE, so power goes in with data... no extra cables to deal with. WiFi cams kinda suck.

Motion detection can be tricky/finicky to set up. My garage camera gets triggered when dust floats in front of the camera - the IR LEDs surrounding it light up the speck, and it appears as a giant orb floating through my garage. My porch camera triggers when bugs crawl on it, or when wind kicks up snow in front of the door.

When it does detect motion, it pre-triggers 5 seconds of video, then records 10 seconds after the last trigger. Also sends me an image of what triggered it.
Can save the video locally to a microsd card, or push it to a number of network sources (local shared drives, NAS, cloud shares, etc).

At 4 megapixel/25fps, it's pretty fucking good quality. More than the old grainy black-and-white shit.

ls7 swap. twin turbos and boost the hell out of it.

Can be done for $27,000.

Gut it - Take the plastic body off. Remove the electric motor, lights, A/C system. Take the spare fake tire out of the back. Remove the fake plastic windows. Swap the driveshaft out for a carbon fiber driveshaft.

You could get that little guy moving to upwards of 250mph for as little as 50 grand.

Good luck

How do I convince, by an means necessary, that someone would he better if they just sold their house to me.

How /diy/ is your town/city/village?

I hear people having local {shops} to include pottery supply, miniature remote aircraft, fine woodworking, blacksmithing/general metal work/ferrier, art shops diverse enough to have wood carving stuff, leatherworking, ect, ect.

I'm fucking jealous. Locally i have... Ace hardware... trash-mart... and a farm/ranch supply store. Next town over has nothing but big box chinesium dealers. Best i could find for /diy/ quality was a "mercantile" store that had a tandy leather side job.

What happened to when the bigger a town got the better the stores got? Am i just fantasizing going to town and being able to buy best-in-class tools? I highly doubt I'll ever find some clothing boutique that actually makes its own clothes outside some snobby district in NYC. Tailor shops should simply rename to "makes repairs and might handfit a suit" shops.

I literally have to use the internet to order anything of acceptable quality. Its absolutely infuriating. I just needed a new sharpening stone for a chisel, everywhere i looked locally looked at me like i was explaining rocket science. These people have no idea what a whetstone is. So here i am waiting for the post to get here again before i can continue a project.

I almost thing this is primarily a USA problem. I've talked to a few people in Japan who seem to have no problem getting tools and odd ball things. Charcoal for polishing, some stupidly specialized chisel i can't pronounce, one guy was able to get powdered gold and silver like it was a grocery store staple....
Has our consumerist ways gotten this bad really?

The bigger the better. You need to have enough niche people to support a niche product. If your city has 70000 inhabitants then its just impossible to support a specialised store...
>>
>>1170293
According to the last census there were just under 60k people living in the city, many more scattered around the villages and towns nearby.

Big agriculture place, so I obviously wasn't expecting miracles here. Figured it was big enough that hobby lobby wasn't the only art supply store in town, frankly calling them an art supply seems like an insult to real supply stores.
>>
>>1170291

i dont have a select kit, but i got 4 buttons, a classic style arcade joystick (really nice too, theres a cheaper one but its not the style i liked) for about 30 plus $5 in shipping costs over at adafruit. alternatively theres specialized websited for that kind of stuff. funny story actually, im building a custom arcade kit for my dad and just started on the frame yesterday (i have most of the parts)

Long story short, I want to build a model jet engine. Surfing the wonders of youtube I found alot of really cool stuff, but most didnt self sustain which disappointed me and started to question my skills in making one considering the amount of work they put onto it with cnc machining.
I have alot of knowledge about everything but combustion chambers, I dont seem to find a good source on this, I mean where does the combustion exactly happen why are there two tubes overlapong the other, where does cold air enter and from where does the hot air exit. The placment of holes diameter of differrent holes and their number, why? Please explain, and give me a good source for this.
Also I am thinking of making 8 different closed combustion chambers around the shaft with gaps between them to keep the bearing safe and and the shaft cold and to stick oil lubrication system, will this work and how do I make it to work

>have a shed
>flimsy, not tall enough, kind of small
I built it myself a while ago
>want bigger shed
>decide to do things right this time
>decide to build one from scratch
>realize I need a concrete slab
>never done that before

the ground is flat, no earthquakes, house built 40 years ago has no cracks anywhere (solid ground, no settling), no HOA, no nosy neighbors, I plan to live here till I die (fuck building code)

except some youtube videos about pouring concrete, is there anything else I should know?
is premix concrete good enough?
should I use rebar (or some sort of metal mesh)?
41 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>1165777
yes, you should use rebar And metal mesh. Don't forget to make good deep footers as needed in your climate.

Plan out the size of the pad and add it up. That concrete starts adding up quickly. You might want to look into getting a delivery of mixed and ready concrete from a nearby plant. Consider rounding up to the next full yard if that saves money, have a secondary plan, walkway, something else to spend the partial on.

Make sure you have the rest of your planning done. This is when you can place some anchors easily, ready to tie in the greater structure as it comes up.

Otherwise, spend the time to make a good finish, cure things well, etc. You should be able to rent some large 'floats', possibly from the same place you get concrete. Don't be too proud. If this project is very large and you have any doubt about your ability, get some help. Getting two guys to help with the actual pour (the fast part) after you have spent all the time you like preparing the form and reinforcement means no ruining things at the last minute.
>>
>>1165777
How big is the shed?
You don't have to pour a slab if you build a frame with plywood flooring on top of concrete blocks. For an 8X10 you want a block every 2 feet depending on if you use 2X6's or not. Dig 6-10 inches down and fill with stone dust, compact it down tight then level the block and you'll be set for 30 years. You can use sonotubes if you want but you'll have to dig at least 18 inches down and deal with concrete. I personally just made a frame and coated it in tar on the bottom, then cut it to the edge of the shed, sealed that and dropped it on a bunch of gravel and stone dust in a dug out hole.
>>
>>1165784
>>1165790

*Was gonna add that the concrete slab will probably cost more unless you have a mixer on hand and can order a pallet of mix.

That's old telephone wire
>>
>>1171885
Probably should explain. They probably removed the box from the back of the house, and instead of actually removing the wire they tied it up out of the way. Maybe they left it so you can get your own service hooked up. It's fine, but it might be a red flag that they don't have the most qualified people taking care of the property. Probably just the second option though.
>>

Does anyone have experience with these things?
I'm building a device and I want it to have a built-in keyboard.
I'm thinking of drilling holes in the enclosure of the device itself and having the black part of the tactile switches stick out.
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Won't work if your enclosure's metal. Otherwise, whatever, go for it.
>>
>>1171835
Why not? Are the black parts conductive?
>>
>>1171836
Oh, I thought you meant a hole for each pin. If you're drilling a hole for the button and somehow securing the body to the enclosure well enough that a button push won't dislodge it that'll work fine.

I picked up this old analog TV from the trash pile near my house. It works fine except for some slight scratches on the screen.

what can I do with it /diy/? How much could I get for selling it online? Could I sell it for parts, which parts are valuable?

This is my first time getting my hands on something besides old furniture, so I'm unclear on what to do next now that I got the thing.

None of them, in fact its legally hazardous material and you have to pay to recycle it properly.

Double check the settings on the mod, is it in temp control mode, is it locked, etc.

On the RDA, make sure the post screws are tight- but not too tight; if you tighten too far you'll snap the coils.

Check that the coils aren't touching anything but the posts.

Double check that the mod is actually making a connection to the tank. Some mods have floating pins, springloaded pins, etc; and may need to be finessed a little to connect to the tank.

If you're sure they're connecting, Clean the connections on the mod and on the RDA with a little alcohol and a cotton swab.. Try again.

If that doesn't work, it could be a problem with the insulator.. Some cheaper tanks and RDAs have used shitty plastics that can melt when exposed to sub-ohm temps too long.
>>
>>1171472
