I have some LED chips like this from which I want to extract the physical LED die which lies under some hard silicone type resin mixed with the phosphor.

Any ideas?

I have this fairly average quadcopter with a camera on the bottom that I'd like to interface with a raspberry pi or arduino or something that gives me programmable control, because I have a few gripes with the qc as it is.
The controls are abysmal, level flight is a guessing game with the joysticks on the remote control, the recorded footage is in barely compressed AVI which quickly fills up any SD card I put into it, and once it goes out of the quite short range, it just crashes back down to earth.

What I'd like to do:
Change it so that it uses an Xbox controller instead of the remote.
Encode and stream the video over WiFi (the raspberry pi's H264 encoding is making me lean towards it over an arduino solution) but at the same time, increase the range it can fly, which seems like it would be in opposition to streaming the video.

First question is the video:

The camera itself has 3 wires, red and black which I assume are for VCC and ground, and a yellow wire. How is a video signal sent over 1 wire? What kind of encoding does it use? (or am I entirely wrong and basing it on the fact I've seen other CCD cams with the same wiring setup, but without the SD card port the one on this has).

I'll post the rest tomorrow, I'm too drunk and tired for the rest of this shit.

I've always wanted to hook up a quadcopter to a roomba to let it soar majestically at a set altitude, avoid birds and trees on its own, and then return to its little charging nest. This would be a great pet.

Monitoring thread for undoubtedly relevant tips.

So i'm trying to wire in my car's subwoofer and amp to a separate battery which is also located in the trunk. The system will (hopefully) be separate to the car's system powered by the battery in the engine bay.
My question is, how do I complete the circuit?
I've got the positive cable, and a ground leading from the sub. But what do I place on the negative terminal of the battery to allow for power flow? Another ground?
I have very little experience with auto electronics, so any help would be appreciated.

just body ground it

Care to elaborate? I'm full retard when it comes to this shit.
>>
>>1180510
You bolt the negative to the chassis of the car. Moat of the cars electricity flows through the chassis. Look at the existing battery's negative terminal. It is bolted to the chassis.

Devil's in the details. Assuming they want electricity/plumbing/modern conveniences/etc, they'll probably have to get that professionally done. Expensive, especially if miles from civilization. Not an engineer that deals with construction, but imagine you'll want a foundation of some sort. If they want windows, that will be a non-trivial task. If they are above ground, you'll probably need insulation. If below ground, gotta dig the hole and make sure it doesn't flood when it rains. Moving the containers into position after laying the foundation won't be trivial easier. At that point, you spent enough money you may as well build a real house. Or even just buy an RV/camper.

But if they're willing to live like hobos in a box don't know how to convince them anon.

Thanks anon, i just dont want my mom living in a shitbox death trap in the middle of nowhere hopefully bringing plumbing electricity snd foundations to their attention can make them change their minds

My dad got a business to fix the basement cement floor, a White man came and then the next day 3 Mexican men came in an old pickup truck, they finished all their work in 6 hours. then they ask for "credit card or check" and I told them what my dad said to say: "he said your boss will come tomorrow on Saturday for an inspection and he'll get paid a check". It was over $3000 job*****

His facial expression changed from slight smile to kind of frowning after I said this...WHY?! Is there something I don't know that they would become sad from "your boss is doing an inspection and getting the check tomorrow"? What made them look disappointed?

So apparently some fucking pisshead was wandering up the street last night, decided to run up my car bonnet and shoulder-drop straight into my windscreen.

Police suggested getting some of the hedges in the front of the garden removed but I'm thinking about just putting the garden wall through and making myself a drive.

I've got a fairly large garden that wraps around 3 sides of the house, and the front is already gravelled and not used for anything, and so would be perfect for a drive to park the car to get it off the street (already had my tires slashed this year as well). Would also facilitate getting some CCTV put in as right now the street parking is obscured anyway.

Just wondering how much money and what permissions I'd need to get rid of the wall in the front of my house in order to have a drive put in? Like I said, front is already gravelled, it's just a case of removing the small hedge and the wall and installing a gate (since I have a dog). I could get rid of the hedge myself, and am assuming I could knock the wall down.

Only thing I'm wondering is if I'd need planning permission from the council (I rent but am fairly certain I'll get permission from the owner who lives in Australia now anyway), and if any work would need to be done where the foundation of the wall was, if it would need to be re-finished, since I've never done anything like that before.

Apparently it costs £300 or so to get the council to put a dropped curb in, which can wait as it's not a legal requirement (I don't think) and it's unlikely anyone will park infront of my house since everyone else on the street has a drive themselves (and the only reason for a dipped curb is to protect you from that)

Cheers.

I don't know how it works in the colonies but here in the motherland you only need permission for additions over certain heights. You can replace a wall with a hedge or whatever if its the same height or add something new up to a certain height.
But surely there is an online planning portal you can look at? With all guidelines and stuff?
Sorry about your car man that sucks, few years ago I lived in a shit part of Edinburgh and kids (8-12) took turns running over peoples cars.
Police said just be glad they still run and weren't burnt out.
Maybe a pressure sensitive explosive under your suspension as a deterrent? Check your local laws this might not be legal outside of Baghdad

Can you make a charcoal grill from aluminum?
19 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
No, aluminum will probably melt.
>>

Nah

You fine op. Aluminum melts at like 1200 or 1300 f. To melt you grill you would need a hot as fuck fire with quality charcoal and a hair dryier.

My propane grill is aluminum and its glorious.

Sucks a little cause it oxidizes and looks like shit, but it doesnt rust.

Fucker is cast aluminum. I dropped it and put a crack in it 10 years ago.

It will likely outlive us all.

Hello /diy/ I have a simple question I thought yall might be able to help with.

What options do I have for dulling the surface of brass without effecting it's structural strength any?

I have some shells on my chest that I don't want the brass of the shells to reflect any light, but I don't want to do something like put tape over them as that would impede their use.

Is there way to chemically stain the surface of the brass or something?

Get it hot. It will oxidize in air. Depending on how hot you get it, you can produce a range of finishes from slightly dull to matte gray.
>>
>>1179568
A mild bleach solution should work. If you want to do it the hard way, cum tarnishes brass, but it might take a while though. I'm thinking that both are basic solutions if that helps.
>>
Anything that will etch the surface. Vinegar and lemon juice brought to a boil is fun.

I need a good number of old discarded tires (30+) for a DIY project, but I have no idea where to find them. Since there's ~laws~ about dumping them I can't just visit an empty lot and help myself anymore and googling for it just nets me either pintrest shit on used tire DIY or used tire sales places.

Are there any smarter options than just going down my rural road and knocking on doors?

Hey y'all I'm gonna build my own house and I want to know how much I can DIY. Like at what stage will gov try to cockblock me for not having some official certification? I know I have to submit plans and whatnot - do these plans need to have some stamp, or come from someone real official?

>how much I can DIY

It depends on where you live, your skill level, and tools/supplies you have access to. Where I live it doesn't matter, there are no building codes. However, if I want electric from a utility company, it has to conform to their standards from the pole to the meter. Which is nice for living in B.F.E.
>>
>>1178963

Ahh, okay. Disregard skills & resources, simply wondering the legal angle. So I should call up somebody in the local town gov? Do you know which office? Planning & zoning?
>>
Okay furthermore - what does being an architect really entail? Like shit.

Here's me: I want to design my building, and I want to build it. I know how I want it to look, I can figure out how to build it, and I can purchase relevant materials & tools. Is there any special sauce? Or am I overthinking this?

I damaged my ikea table while weighting on a piece of wood I was working with. Would sanding it very carefully help with fixing this, or is there a better option? Sanding would most probably damage the lacquer too.

Please advise. I fucked up.

>>
>>1178256
You could TRY placing a wet towel on the wounds and running a clothes iron over it, letting the steam and moisture seep into the dents and swell the compressed wood, but I have no guarantees your table will ever return to its former look.
>>
>>1178256
Mom is going to kill you!

But seriously, I don't think steam is going to be the way to go... maybe an epoxy filler is the best fix, but it's still not going to be perfect.
>>
Wood putty and match the finish you'll hardly notice if you sand carefully to like 300 400 grit.

I've had these saws for a few months now, picked them up on a whim. They've taken some getting used to, but overall I really like that they're lightweight and can be used for a variety of tasks. They can cut outlines for a spoon or cut 9 inch logs in half (not ideal, just tried it.) Thoughts or experiences with pull saws?

>saws cut things
no fucking shit sherlock
i wouldn't be seen dead with one, not because of anything to do with the tool, just the association it carries, people might think i'm a fucking knobend too.
>>
I find the cheap western backsaws entirely adequate for most applications. Never have seen the need to spend huge sums of money on extra double fancy british dovetail saws or nipponese steel folded to infinity.
>>
I think these pull style saws are fashionable now as most people have never tried a truly sharp and set push saw, just the 100 yo shit ones they've pulled out of their attic.
Good lord can a sharp properly set push saw make some serious sawdust and you feel comfortable either doing fine or rough work.
I don't feel pull saws are ever suitable for rough work as the muscle just isn't there.

its metal flat bar
>>
>>1177471

yeah

get some 1" x 1/16" x 48" aluminum flat bar (whatever the metric equivalent is)
some aluminum angle
4x nuts & bolts
use the angles & bolts at the ends to attach it to the long strip (x2 on each side so it doesnt twist)

use those cheap adhesive LED light strips off ebay
>>
>>1177474
Although keep in mind the adhesive on those strips is usually trash and falls off immediately. Use some additional adhesive
