i'm going over to an old welders place, on saturday, for some tutoring.

WHAT is a welder's favourite snack?

Beer.

Or something to throw on a grill or smoker.

All welders have made 4 grills.

bought this knife at a garage sale.

what's the best way to remove rust?

the second blade doesn't even come out lol

>>
>>1189702
Just oil it and wiggle it around until the blade comes out, then use steel wool. That knife isn't that badly rusted.
>>
>>1189705
What sort of oil?
>>
>>1189702
Not sure if this would be safe for the acrylic handle, but my go-to rust removal is a vinegar soak.

I typically soak old steel/iron parts in a Tupperware of vinegar for about a week, agitating it daily. When it's done, there will be no rust and it also won't remove and existing steel. But as I said, I'm not sure if this would be safe on the plastic.

I need to transport large volumes of materials and goods around the world via train, truck, and ship but I cant figure out what to pack things in. I was thinking of using large sheds or maybe portable concrete bunkers. Any suggestions?

Have you considered storing them inside the gut of a large crab? Ports have these in cold storage for times like this. Their tonnage starts out at a third of a ton, so I hope you have a lot to ship.

I would suggest using a house, or bunker.

I unfortunately can not burn my trash anymore due to local ordinances.

I have never paid much attention to how much trash my family makes. How much trash does /diy/ make?

I need to pick a trash can size by tomorrow. I am leaning towards the 64 gal, but I have no idea.

We have ~60 gallon bins. Three adults.

90% of the time we don't need that much, but every now and again I'll end up with a bunch of packing material to throw in the recycle bin, or I'll clean out the garage and have a bunch of scrap wood and crap to chuck in the garbage. Aside from those two instances, it's rare for us to even half fill the recycle bin. The garbage bin usually has no more than two half-full 10-gallon bags at the bottom by the time it gets taken out.

If you live alone, you should easily be able to get by with the 35 gallon bins.

this is my concern.

It will just be my wife and me, so we could probably get by with the 35 gal, but I think we will go with the 60

Post the best listing on your local craigslist. It's hard to find tools at low prices, but on craigslist you can find local tools for cheap!

Nasty stuff, especially oleum.

Fumes can burn skin.

I'd fraction it off into smaller containers and take it slow.

Make sure area is well ventilated and you have an escape route.

Gloves and face shield, if not OVAG rated respirator too.

WHAT WOULD YOU BUILD IF YOU HAD UNLIMITED ACCESS/PRINTS TO A HIGH QUALITY 3D printer?

Like, engineering-grade materials and high-temperature materials.

I was thinking of making a tiny desktop chocolate factory. Like thse giant machines in How It's Made, only super small so the whole process would fit on a 1' x 1' area.

>UNLIMITED ACCESS/PRINTS

Pretty much anything at all. Since there's some how an infinite amount of printing material and electric to run it you basically just print the most expensive salable item over and over and make tons of money until the market is too flooded then switch to the next best item.

I've got a lot of random junk like rusty nails, broken electrical parts, old cables, padlocks with no keys, etc

Like a hoarder I've been holding on to all this stuff just in case it ever became useful. Should I just toss it all?

I pull the electronics out and sort them for electronics projects.

And I sort out the scrap metal for casting projects.

If you aren't interested in anything like this then they aren't useful to you and you should recycle them/weigh them in as scrap.

hi /diy/ does anybody know how I could make a +5v, -5V power supply with common ground?

This is to play around with opamps before I have to next semester (engineer student here).

would ask /g/ but they don't know anything other than bash, python and javascript.

>>
>>1191579

Buy two 5v supplies and connect the positive side of one to the negative side of the other, and that point is ground.

For opamps there's no need for the supplies to be regulated, but if you care about that you can get nice inexpensive 5v regulated supplies from places like AdaFruit and other places.
>>
are you sure you need +-5 V? many op amps are better off with something like +-15 V.

Hello /diy/nosaurs. I've been thinking in applying my time towards a electronics hobby but I would like to do it in the most DIY way. What's the most i can get from salvaged parts of daily objects(microwaves, old computers, old radios, all that jazz) so i can start it ? Please, I don't want to be just one more buyfag. If it helps, i already know about the basic stuff (resistors, capacitors, how to measure with multimeters, and even a thing or two about diodes and all.)

what the fuck are you doing son, you dont take apart shit for no reason, take apart what you need, not take apart what you want

unless u just want to take a peek and put it back, u can learn what is inside, also practice unscrewing stuff

Most components are so cheap they're only worth salvaging from already-broken stuff you already have. Don't break shit other people could use or at least have a laugh at if it's thoroughly obsolete and useless.

I am intending to construct a scaled RC plane out of balsawood.
However I have no good way of starting, as I have no answers to my many questions.

How can I budget this project.
What blueprints should I follow.
What components should I looking for.
Where is a good place to purchase them.
How can I determine what component is suited for X project.

I have determined already that the powerplant I would like to use is Nitro.

Even though I am an avid fan of WW2 planes, I am fine with not starting with a scaled historical model. Something to build like the one in the OP would be ok.

So any help DIY?

Hi All,
I moved into my house a few months ago and all of the indoor door knobs are these defective pieces of crap. I need to fix them, but it's a rental house so I don't want to actually buy new door knobs (also have a clause in my lease about minimum $ amount for repairs before the landlord will take care of it, otherwise I'd call the landlord).

Anyways, no door knobs were loose when I moved in, but over the last 3 months, 3 of them now come off everytime you turn and pull it to open the door. As you can see in the pictures, it's that little bracket that fits into the whole that is responsible for keeping the door knob on. I guess it gradually becomes permanently indented and no longer keeps the door knob in place. My thoughts were to try to find some little metal cap things that I can plug over the hole to keep the door knob in place, but I'm not even sure if that exists.

How would you recommend that I fix these pieces of shit?

An Allen wrench, the set screw is in too far, take it out and don't screw it in all the way. Maybe a drop of crazy glue just to keep everything in place.
