So I've been slowly working/tuning up my car over the past few months and I was hoping someone could lend their knowledge.

I drive a Toyota Avalon 00'
same engine as the v6 camrys'/solars/Es's

I've noticed a loss in power, and mpg once the cars tank dips past below half full.

Issues to be noted as well as I hear a slight air leak coming from one of the vacuum lines hanging from my air box.

Low idle from time to time, never stalls.
Replaced a faulty MAF
Replace faulty VVTI-Solenoid
New plugs, new timing belt
I'm about to clean my IAC and change some filters but I'm under the impression this issue could be my injectors or my fuel pump?

Before the VVTI-Solenoid was replaced it gave misfire codes, since then no more lights or misfires. Clear dash atm.

From what I read my EGR valve could be the culprit aswell? but I believe that may give some codes or trigger a light.

I see no way loss in power and less mpg are connected to how much fuel you have, aside from the added weight a full tank would bring. But that's would cause the opposite of what you're talking about. The fuel in the tank does cool the fuel pump, so theoretically if the pump gets warmer it could affect how fuel is getting delivered, but in practice that's not likely if even possible. I have never seen it.

Your computer controls how much fuel is being delivered, and if too much or too little is getting delivered it'd likely throw a fuel mixture too rich/lean code. It'd also likely throw a code if the fuel wasn't the correct pressure. You can get a fuel pressure gauge to check if you feel so inclined, usually there's a Schrader valve on the fuel rail normally. How are you calculating fuel economy?

Fix the vacuum leak. IACV can cause rough idle and stalling at stop. So can the EGR valve. Just cleaning an IACV won't necessarily make it work, sometimes they just need to be replaced. You'll be able to tell if it was the issue once you pull it.

It might just be that it's an old car. I've seen tons of older cars where the Tach will occassionally drop in the 400s after revving and coming to a halt.

Really, it's difficult to diagnose intermittent issues in person, let alone on the internet.
>>
Take a methodical approach. Fix the vacuum leak first. Then see if or how much of an improvement that makes. Then come back to this board and we'll go from there.
>>
I forgot to add and explanation of why I say fix the vacuum leak first. The oxygen sensors will sense the extra air that isn't counted by the MAF. This extra air is called unmetered air. The oxygen sensors will inform the computer that there is too much air in the air/fuel mixture to maintain something called stoichiometry. The computer will command the fuel injectors to open for a longer amount of time to bring the air/fuel ratio closer to stoichiometry. If the computer determines that the injectors can't be opened for any more time than they already are, then it will throw a lean code.

Hey all,
anyone know what brand/maker of chisel this is? And is it worth the time/effort to restore?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1192929
Don't know the brand, but it looks like you need to sharpen it, possibly put a handle on it, and use it. Not exactly a huge waste of time; you'd have to sharpen any chisel you buy, and putting a handle on one is a good learning experience.
>>
>>1192940
This. In the and it's a sharpened metal bar with a handle on it, it's definitely worth the time you put into it.

How hard is building a house for someone with little to no experience? Ive done some brick laying before although not very good, but I'm thinking more likely a wood frame house? Would you hire some guy and then work under their command or something like that? Single storey seems slightly easy but two story then becomes crazy because of structure and support. Idk tell me about your experiences

Start out by building a shed, but do everything you would for a house. Follow building code to the letter. Insulate. Put in drywall. Practice roofing. Once you've done that, you can do it again but bigger.
>>
>>1192278
Its heaps fucking easy, which is why everyone does it. A cunt as dumb as you will certainly have no problems.
>>
Also interested in this. Anyone have some good resources? Would you say adding a small guest house that has a bathroom and small kitchen would be best instead of just a shed?

So recently I purchased a bansuri through amazon but was slightly dissapointed because the thing doesn't really sound like I was expecting, the tone is way too high and squeaky compared to the solemn sound I was hoping to achieve, instead of purchasing another one I decided it would be easier to make my own since a bansuri is basically a cane flute
Since I want something along the lines of the one here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWWAgCjAQvI I was hoping I could make a decent mimicry of it with a big bamboo cane as long as I get the proportions right, is there anything else I should know about making woodwind instruments before I hop in?

Judging from your style of typing, you are from India... Why don't you buy a traditional one... You'll get free training asking with it...btw people have also made it from pvc

English is a foreign language to me but I'm not from India so buying a traditional one directly from the source is out of the picture

Anyone have insight or protips on electric brewing? I found a 14gal. openhead HDPE drum, 5500w and 1500w water heater elements, and locknuts to install and wire right on the kettle. To go 240v to 120v I'm making a 10-30r to 5-15p to power the 5500w when a dryer isn't available. Eventually I'll upgrade to all steel and pretty little triclamp and camlock everywhere. For now I'm just ready to start doing all grain BIAB.

Pic is a hibiscus lemon sugar wine I put in keg a couple weeks ago. Not much body and almost insipid but it's pretty. At 4 weeks I'll backsweeten a bit to see if that brings out any taste. If not I'll add a little glycerol and frozen pink lemonade concentrate or similar. I wanted a basic panty dropper type drink at 10%abv, nothing fancy.

My current plans are to make

A smore porter
And a mead using local honey and strawberries from today's farmer's market
I'll also be racking my current orange blossom ginger mead, still a few weeks off from bottling a "shit I had lying around" amber ale, and a fat tire clone.

I'll be starting my apprenticeship as an electrician next week. As part of the job I have to get some safety boots. Problem is, I'm about 5'7 and regular work boots paired with snickers work trousers make me look even stumpier than usual. I'm thinking of getting these military boots (steel toe btw) and tucking then in the way regular soldiers wear them cause it looks cool and aesthetic af. Will it look stupid or na?

Any plumbers out there have any idea what this thing is?
I'm pretty sure there's a blockage in our toilet, and I tried plunging it, but the rubber seal on this thing is broken, and I'm unable to get any decent suction on the toilet bowl because air just comes through this broken seal.
What the fuck is this thing, I assume it's some sort of trap, and would I be able to get a replacement cap for it?

it's probably a blanking cap. it should be just a blanking cap.

I recently had the realisation that im an adult with adult money and enough DIY skills to make many of the things i wanted as a kid, so i thought id make the millennium rod.

I dont want to make a costume prop out of wood or clay, but i want to make it as accurate as possible complete with hidden stabby stabby parts.

What would be the best way to make this? the two methods i've thought of are carving it out of wax and casting it in brass, or welding it together out of steel and plating it with brass using the brass brush method.

The problems im facing with each method are that i dont know how well the sheathed part would do with the cast method and for the welding id have to buy a welder.

Advice?

>>
>>1193333
My first thought would be to use a combination of casting and store bought tubing (combined with welds? Glue? No idea). That way you can get the shapes you want (casting) and still give the hidden spike a good thread.
>>
>>1193333
Do you look the part?
>>
>>1193333
10/10 buy the welder.

Should be top priority for diy.

>cast in brass.

Anon that thing would weigh more than your car and you grossly underestimate the clusterfuck of an ordeal casting that much brass is.

Source: I have a 1 ton trailer mounted foundry and i wouldn't even attempt it.

Not to mention welder wil pay itself off soon. If u scratch your head a little u can make most anything u need from scrap metal instead of buy.

Didn't buy one piece of metal on my foundry setup unless you count brass fittings. And if i had the patience and a good tap and die set i could have made some myself

How do I make a shipping container out of a bunker?

My idea is to dig the bunk up and use a massive crane to pull it out of the ground

The only problem is that a bunker weighs in at well over 40tons, so it won't be legal to use on the road.

Any ideas on making it light enough to use for transcontinental shipping?

Before everybody freaks out, i come in peace

I need honest and actual advice, i'm dead serious.
Here's my story: I'm 25 year old, finishing studies in Biochemistry, small frame girl and a heart patient. I want to start a new hobby that can evolve into a career. So my question is what are the odds and probabilities that i can do it and become a carpenter? Is it physically demanding? Because i can't lift heavy objects and i get tired very fast because my blood pressure is low from taking beta blockers for my heart defect i was born with. I get so inspired viewing modern furniture and i think i can do neat designs etc.. But I have no actual idea how hard is it on your health and physical well being. So I want to hear from people who do this kind of work their experiences and advice
tl;dr
>I want to design and build furniture but i'm afraid i won't be able to due to my physical condition being a small woman with heart defect
No, it's not a bait, be nice for once

I suppose you could have the lumber yard cut whatever wood you select into manageable pieces, but you still need to lift some stuff. Whether you can do it as a career depends more on your skill, creativity and work ethic than heavy lifting, but i don't know where your limits are, practically, so can't say anything for certain.

Any handicraft is demanding in some aspects, but if you can lift 30-40 lbs without problem, you might be fine, I guess? I dunno.
>>
>>1192233
>40 lbs
i don't know i get tired from taking 11 lbs water jug from the store home :/
i have no knowledge on anything but i'm a fast learner and very passionate about it
>>
It's not the job for you, there is a fuck ton of lifting. Although you could probably get a job still, most companies don't check shit. Although wouldn't recommend, stick to wood working.
