Bake in a pre-heated oven at around 400. For those photos, I took her out every 15 minutes to take a photo. Opening the oven door lets heat out, so most of that time was just the oven heating back up again.

As long as you're looking at PVC or ABS (which is probably 95% of figures anyway) it'll be fine.
Polystyrene (gunpla) has a much higher melting point. Polystone (rarely used for figs) and resin (garage kits) don't melt, period.

They are. I did an Inkling Girl, came out good. The only figures that won't work for this are resin (garage kits) or polystyrene (gunpla). ABS and PVC work great.
Beware that pretty much any figure standing up will fall over pretty much immediately.
The best figures for this are ones already in sitting, laying, or reclining poses.
I also have to remind everybody that the fumes are horrible and I'm a Grade A Professional Retard for ever doing this.

eBay and Amazon are okay. You can expect to be overcharged on decent figs, but you can find cheap gashapons for okay prices. Also bootlegs if you're just going to melt them anyways.
Try punching in just "anime figure" or something and you can find people selling lots of single unidentified figures.
