Doesn't matter, /co/ will mever have as many charts as /mu/.

/co/ still has a tumblr page with a bunch of rec lists, but I guess a lot of them are starting to disappear because no one has kept up with the site.

It's not a list of good comics, it's a list of commonly-recommended comics. Blankets is recommended more often than Habibi, Saga is recommended more often than Y (or whatever other comic you're thinking of).
>>
>>79787426
The only good thing on that list is Asterios Polyp

Any list should have:

>Watchmen
>Dark Knight Returns
>Maus

While I'm not saying those are the three best comics ever written; those three would be on anyone's recommended list.

Also, unless I'm wrong those are the first three comics to win mainstream literary awards (I don't know if there have been any since).

As none of the lists posted so far have any of these three the lists are crap.

I don't have an issue that it's also for cartoons. The thing being that not everyone who's into cartoons is also into comics and vice versa.

They can have separate lists. I was talking anout a comics not cartoons list.

>>79787675
I think we can assume you're reading these comics later than most people. If you read them as they came out, they might have had more of an affect on you, and stood out more than other comics written at the same time.

Looking back, other comics have attempted and succeeded and doing things better, but only after standing on the shoulders of giants, y'know?

None of those are comics I'll read again, but they definitely hold a place in my heart.

Except Saga. Feel free to hate that as much as you wish.

No, it's a different one that was made a couple of months ago. It's more focused on R-rated stuff and is more of a "Mature Viewers" list.

It has stuff like Heavy Traffic, Waking Life, Waltz with Bashir, and so on.

I helped make it, I'll know when I see it.
>>
>>79787111
maybe there isn't one
every board has it's essential "-core" in its specific media: /mu/ has NMH, radiohead, kanye, death grips, anco, swans; /lit/ has the meme trilogy of gravity's rainbow, ulysses, and infinite jest; /a/ has evangelion, madoka, haruhi, geass, etc. it's just that no board is as obsessed with making charts and writing it down like /mu/ is. there's at least one "updating /mu/core" thread a month that gets to bump limit and another chart is made only to be tossed into the pile of never used charts, because the only ones anyone ever uses are this one in the OP or >>79787351 this one.
so, while there are probably essential /co/ reading/watching, i don't know if there's a chart for it.

All right, I'll try to reduce it to a 3x3, with the focus on importance in the medium, and accessibility for newcomers. Guy above me was right, DKR, Watchmen and Maus are pretty much necessary due to mainstream acclaim alone. American Splendor and GhostWorld are a good intro to more underground stuff, and the fact that they both were filmed makes them more accessible.
Understanding Comics is a must-read. Incal is a good way to get into Eurostuff, and loss.jpg is just extremely important on /co/:
So:
>DKR
>Watchmen
>Maus
>American Splendor
>Ghostworld
>Understanding Comics
>The Incal
>loss.jpg
I need one more.

>>79789226

>DKR
>Watchmen
>Maus
>American Splendor
>Ghostworld

You're already ahead of the shitters who only read capes and argue about live-action movies and company wars, sempai.
>>
>>79789346
/mu/ is the most meme based board of all the boards. Very little discussion of the actual medium at all. Like, if you go on /v/ it's assumed that you actually like vidya, while /mu/ exists in this bizarro world of hipster one-upmanship because their tastes are otherwise so fragmented and subjective.

>>79788963
I think comics are a relatively shitty medium with barely any genuinely excellent works and so any one of these graphics are going to tend towards stuff that a lot of people will think isn't that good.

The most worthwhile point of the medium's existence is that it enables ero-manga.
>>
>>79791843
The thing is a list of 'fedora' movies, whatever stake you put in that.
>>
>>79793061

not the guy you're replying to but I'm not entirely sure I understand. I broadly understand the concept of "fedora" but I don't get how the whole chart is fedora, like, you've got fantastic movies like Doctor Strangelove, American Psyco, MMFR, The Martian and Inception in there next to a shitload of Adam Sandler movies, foodfight! and all three hobbit trainwrecks.

Surely if the whole thing were "fedora" then wouldn't it all be stinkers or generally-agreed-to-be-good movies in that it's fedora to hate on or like one or the other?
>>
>>79793245
>I broadly understand the concept of "fedora"
>you've got fantastic movies
>next to a shitload of trainwrecks

You don't seem to get it. 'Fedora' says nothing at all about the quality of a given movie, simply that the film in question has great appeal to 'fedora' types. So naturally, The Matrix, regardless of what you think of it, is a highly fedora movie.
>>
/co/-core needs to be something we keep talking about and needs to have a hipster try-hard vibe

So, mostly Morrison comics.
>>
>>79793314

Oh. I had it backwards then. I thought that was "movies it would be fedora to like/dislike" rather than "these are movies fedora types like/dislike"
>>
>>79792686
It's good to hear this from a fellow Anon, but it doesn't change the way I feel.
Cheers.
>>
>>79788165
Watchmen and DKR make each other irrelevant though. They're both great books, but they cover a lot of the same ground and giving them both in a "sampler" makes comics seem like they're a genre rather than a medium
>>

It's probably just one or a few dudes spitballing honestly. And it's probably just how good they thought the movie was overall. Regardless, many of those movies are very good. If you're on /co/, you probably have like a 90 percent or more chance of enjoying any random movie on that list.

Movies like The Illusionist, Triplets of Belleville, Mary and Max, Fritz the Cat and some others not being on there is kinda weird though.
