Why does he get to be happy and with a girl while Dipper and Finn seem to exist solely to get shat on?
Mordecai doesn't count because he's an adult and he should fucking know better
>Why does he get to be happy and with a girl while Dipper and Finn seem to exist solely to get shat on?
Because gumball is actually a good show
It's also not produced by americucks
I can honestly only think of maybe 3 cartoons in which the main character's love interest/crush is realized and he doesn't spend the better part of 3 seasons almost getting her/him to like him/her
Why the fuck do so many Americans refuse to portray romance in a way that isn't cringey and awful
The Moonlighting Principal. Also known as the X-Files principal or even the "Ross and Rachel" principal.
Without fail, unless they start the series in a relationship, the tease of if two characters will get together engages people more than a steady, healthy relationship. It's been proven time, and time, and time again that when you end the "Will they won't they", interest wanes. A sad, but well, proven, truth.
However, this only ascertains to sitcoms mostly. That it appears in childrens cartoons are simply a case of writers sticking to comfort zones.
Steven's a dumb faggot and yet he gets his girl though, so that aint it.
Dipper's hooking up with his sister, brah.
/aco/ told me
It's weird because Gumball is by far the worst out of all them. He's an obnoxious asshole who ruins everything for everyone. Like an old-school psycho Daffy Duck except without the charm.
Yet he gets a girl and despite ruining literally everything for her (except for one specific episode where the writers suddenly decided Gumball should not be a dumbass asshole) she stays with him. I guess her bland and boring personality helps with that.
Yeah, S3-S4 Gumball is a piece of shit. I miss his old characterization.
>Implying he hasn't always been like that
Do you forget the episode where he gets Larry fired, makes Larry's girlfriend break up with him, and gets Larry addicted to trash food again just for a chance to beat his dad at a 'lazy competition'? Gumball has always been an awful person.
Actually, it's because they are written by scrubs who lack the ability to create decent relationship comedy or drama.
Hell of a lot more powerful and has a lot more story potential.
The "Will they won't they" thing is simply easier to do.
He did not know what he was doing. He was too innocent and naive. Also, It was the only time.
watch the show, it's nothing but "everything is wrong, bad and depressing, people are out to get you, the world is out to get you, nothing matters" in every possible opening, the romance is pretty bittersweet because you know in the end it doesn't mean anything to the characters.
According to the shows creator on Reddit (Sue me) Gumball was actually supposed to fuck up in The Shell and Penny would have broken up with him. But he mentioned something about time constraints and had to take some measures.
I don't want my little ones watching cartoons where they get the idea that they can be an asshole but still get the girl because magic.
You know who should be penny's boyfriend? Darwin.
fite me nerds
Also, if that wasn't Penny is adored by both the writers and fans. She will be a pretty boring character, since most of her roles are romances and bullying Tobias the loser jerk jock
Finn and Dipper went after older women which is basically unobtainable.
Finn also fucked up FP because writing wanted to drop her so he became crazy for no reason.
Mordecai is an idiot and makes poor decisions.
Gumball gets away with it because of how little it actually matters to the plot which is non existent in his show.
>tfw this guy has had a girl since episode 5~
>crucify me, /co/
Anons, I don't want to blow up the bubbles of having stable and pure romance in cartoons. However, there are usually no good things from a romance between the protagonist and a popular side character in a non romance orientated ongoing comedy. Instead of question such as how many episodes? It should be no romance in the first place. All those comparisons are obsolete because they all depend on whether the writers have any ideas to make things interesting, and CANNOT be a hit or miss situation.
This happen to adventure time, when Rebecca Sugar left, shit happened. In regular show, shit happened. In other non romance comedy cartoons, shits still happened.
Omega doesn't care about what others think. Omega is his own person, and ultimately independent of what is considered normal. Mordecai is constantly afraid of what others think of him, and constantly pussies out of things because of it. He is the definitive beta.
>Outgoing, happy children
>Crippled, spaghetti-spewing, puberty-hitting-like-a-truck preteens
The alphas are alphas only because they're very young and haven't been beaten down by their own brain yet.
Seriously, why even rank characters in cartoons? We should know the romance is almost always depend by writers' ideas. If the romance is ongoing without interesting things, it will likely to be an eternal limbo of cheesy story, or eternal limbo of cliche and formulaic stories.
Antisocial fuckwads can't write people capable of interacting with others on a basic and understandable level.
News at 11.
The only places relevant the terms alpha, beta, and omega come from are terms used to describe the members of a wolf pack.
The alpha is in charge, naturally. Beta is second in command. With how a wolf pack works, this isn't really a bad thing. Wolves stick to their mate rather than everyone lining up for the alpha. Which also means one of a mated pair being an alpha means both are. An omega mate can be raised to alpha status, conceivably, by having a good mate (or being chosen by one).
The omega is the literal lowest position in the pack. Ostracized, weak, without protection from others, and unable to defend themselves from the pack. Yet still part of the pack because they cannot bring themselves to leave by their nature of needing others.. even if they are hated. By definition, the omega doesn't even have a mate cause having one would raise them above the lowest possible point in the pack by association.
What you MAY be thinking of is LONE WOLF. The one who has no pack and does not seek one out. Though the way you describe it makes me think you still believe this is a good thing.
What makes you think it's strict? Things can only be roughly categorized when it comes to living things after all, but you'd be right. Wolf packs have a lot more social mobility/flexibility than people usually think.
Particularly in matters of romance. Wolves will pick omega mates without a fuss from anyone, for instance. It's not like the wolves themselves think in terms of Alpha, Beta, and Omega.
It depends entirely upon how you feel like defining it. Whenever I see the word omega thrown around, it is always referring to the internet definition and not the wolf pack definition. The wolf pack definition is fairly useless in relation to cartoons, as it is far too specific, and as such it is rare to see a character that would actually fit within that definition. The internet definition allows for a broader spectrum, which would range from the hated misfits of society all the way to the successful independents.
I think a better term for what people want to call omegas in cartoons would be "unrepentant piece of shit". You can't really mince what you mean with that, but that's just my preference.
Also, the obsession with labeling everyone as either alpha or beta is a very American thing, I feel, where there's 1st place and everything else is a list of losers.
don't forget marco
gumball's the only cartoon character that isn't a cuck right now, this crush anxiety thing has to stop
this image was obviously written by a wanna-be alpha male.
because the captains of industry are the ones who reject the norm and pave a new path. bill gates, steve jobs, that dude from Tesla, these were not alpha males. middle managers are the ones who impress the captains of industry enough to work for them, and they are the so called alphas.
the whole thing is a shitty pop psych theory from the 70s though.
Gumball was a full blown pussy before he confessed to Penny that he liked her. He told penny at her most vulnerable right after her transformation which includes her disobeying her parents and getting called a monster multiple times. Gumball a cuck like the rest; he's just opportunist.
Not him but
I am a fan of Kira milliner
Gumballs cynicism is more of the 99%-of-what-you-do-is-pointless-and-will-fail-terribly type of nihilism. However it also says that if you keep trying, that 1% of shit that isn't awful will make up for the rest.
Because people love watching other peoples struggle and misery. Will they, won't they, Unattainable loves are what people crave because it's relatable to those who have trouble getting mates and its endearing to those who DO have mates. It gives a sense of hope and a "Aww next time buddy" mentality to the audience so that they keep watching them struggle. Its also used because some people just like watching characters suffer because they themselves can't be happy.
Honestly, its dumb. All it does is put a character in an infinite loop of struggling to get nothing. Absolutely nothing. You can argue that "its gives them experience for the future or when they're older" but this is bullshit because most shows don't follow a coherent story flow and is the equivalent of throwing a pebble at a brick wall over and over hoping to break it down. Its cheap and it just makes the character look stupid.
underrated post anon. You deserve a cookie. You pretty much nail everything.
>Because people love watching other peoples struggle and misery. Will they, won't they, Unattainable loves are what people crave because it's relatable to those who have trouble getting mates and its endearing to those who DO have mates.
>implying anybody enjoyed pic related
>Fans think the romance is everything in the show
>but the romance is only a tiny fraction
>yet, it ruins almost everything
I remember why I quit regular show
You got me, certain cross overs I have a weakness for and love to post jojo is one of them SMT is another
I thought everybody knew this already, but for wolfpacks, the Alpha, Beta, Omedga thing has long been debunked by the very person who theorized them in the first place.
Naturally, wolf packs in the wild are a nuclear family: a pair of parents and their puppies.
Wolves eat in order of age within this family.
The only hierarchy is the puppies obey their parents.
When puppies become old enough to start being aggressive and disobediant to their parents, they will leave to find a mate and have puppies of their own.
Ironically, this is actually a pretty good model for the way the human family functions in the world today.
The original "study" was not only based on captive wolves, but even captive wolves don't always form those dynamics or anything, it was all based on one particular group and fairly casual suppositions and the guy has been trying to take back what he wrote ever since.
Because happiness to most people is boring. More often than not they're already happy and if they just watch more happy people they'll just get sick of it. Its why reality TV was invented, to watch people's shitty shitty lives and their shitty shitty behavior so that it gives the audience a sense of "Oh thank god my life is not like that Hahaha!" Its the same for love drama. Guy and girl gets together, they become happy, random shit happens that a.) gets blown out of proportion or b.) one or both parties treats a minor issue like its the end of the world and then shit hits the fan and they break up. Then they get back together cause "I'm sorry, we're meant for each other babe" and then the process repeats itself. Ross and Rachel. It's brilliant but it's toxic. Toxic because it treats happiness like its this hollow shell that's easily broken and taken for granted. This is true, however: Writers have the power to prevent this shit. Writers spend more time writing about terrible shit related real life instead of writing shit to fight off the terrible shit in real life. Its understandable that its a medium where you can get your stress out on or get a point across but come on man, its fiction, FICTION. Happiness is just a pen stroke or a key press away and nobody wants it.
not to mention the aftermath for those dreaded drama usually hurt other supporting characters and minor characters. Hell, I don't want to sugarcoating and say I like every minor character in every show, but the romance and drama are things that kill of other characters' screentime and potential.
Please, don't deny the Gumball x Penny pair does nothing to the show's quality and other characters. It has already caused more problems before it becomes a problem. Same things for other cartoons as well.
the only problem Penny and Gumball pairing has caused is that it has made Penny's character virtually non-existant because they can't write an episode about her anymore since she has nothing interesting about her they haven't gone over already.
they really need to grow the balls to actually give her more character traits to keep for later. I think she would do fine if she stuck with Gumball and Darwin during some of their hijinks, like a less naggy Anais.
Or, the writers should really have the balls to let other minor characters to free from their fladerization hells. Penny has the most major roles so far for the past few years, yet, she is still subject to romance related plots only. Come on, it is getting ridiculous.
Other minor characters dont fucking matter, i doubt there is absolutely anything interesting about Anton apart from dying a lot. They are fine as background gags, giving complex personalities and motivations to every single freak in the show would be shitty and boring and kill the surreal magic of it's setting.
Penny though, she constantly hints at being capable of something more.
I agree, if only because of it being doomed from the beginning.
I mean, if there were even the slightest chance of them dating, I would have been all over it.
As it stands, the fact that they couldn't even have Wendy express romantic interest because of the age gap meant the whole thing was a huge waste.
most of that is a shop. Don't believe everything you see on the internet anon. People like to portray things like this show in a really bad light.
Because very rarely do children enter into lasting, stable romantic relationships. Kids have crushes. They maybe even have "boyfriends/girlfriends" in a very shallow way for short periods of time, but they're just experimenting. They're playing at being a couple, they're not really.
Honestly, just admit you're watching fucking children's cartoons /co/. Everything makes a lot more sense and you can sit back and enjoy it for what it is instead of trying to apply the world of adulthood onto child characters.
another one of these faggots
who care if it happens in real life if it's shitty to watch. if romance isn't important to kids, why would they want to watch an adolescent/preadolescent character fail at relationships? that's why gumball is the best at being a kids show, it is not wasting time on this.
>why would they want to watch an adolescent/preadolescent character fail at relationships?
Because that's how they understand relationships at the time. At least in terms of a characters like Dipper and Mabel in Gravity Falls, they act like believable kids in the way they view crushes.
Adventure Time is a different story because it's long been a mess of writers shipping the characters the way adult fans do, and trying to write that into the show while still keeping it suitable for kids.
Never said she was good. If something bad happens in the future of this show I'm sure it will be pearls fault. I just like pearls Space suit. Reminds me of Samus.
look mate, after the recent episodes its become a fact that steven is a eunuch and not a boy plus it panders and protes homosexuals which is another huge problem, its probably why its either so censored or banned altogether in most countries
I wish they could have left it at the type of "innocent" crush that little kids get. Dipper would still blush and get flustered around Wendy, but instead of becoming angsty and obsessed, he would simply admire her from afar, enjoy his time with her, and be an over-all happy kid. It would have been cute and so much better.
well I kind of shittalk those people on the dumbblr and post gif reactions to the backlash so that would be a swing and a miss right there
let me guess, you can't tell when someone's being facetious?
They addressed this in a recent episode. He basically hasn't aged since he was about 8. He's been the same size. His age is dependent on his mental state. He has probably been living with the gems since he was 8. Greg said that they haven't changed the whole time he has known them. Around 20 years. With an environment like that it doesn't really give him any room to grow mentally as a person. If it wasn't Connie he probably would have stayed a kid until his dad died or something devastating like that happening and forcing him to grow up. Right now I think he us starting to grow again. He is interacting with humans on a more personal level now. Rather than just seeing them at stores and such.
>because he's an adult and he should fucking know better
Good thing he decided to stop dating and just be friends with Margaret to enjoy life then.
>Why didn't he get with CJ wahhh this is not logical he should stay with someone to satisfy my image of anthropomorphic cartoon adults!
Out of the 30 or so pilots time warner UK studios have put out, they've all been shit, every last one, unairable garbage, except gumball.
The English have a few good artists/creators, and that's it
>The law is no excuse. Steven should be arrested for his completely legal activity.
I got a crappy screencaps for this.
He's always had a sexuality to him, he was crushing on PB since the pilot.
It was mostly a case of him doing good for its own sake, but don't pretend he wasn't in it to impress the princess at the same time.
Because Hirsch has relationship issues as evident in his personal life and it seeps into his creative life. I think they were going to give him something concrete with the rich chick but they ditched it because CANCELLED.
I dunno, I think Finn was gonna have FP but when all the good people left for greener pastures including the creator, everything went back to status quo.
>I think they were going to give him something concrete with the rich chick but they ditched it because CANCELLED.
There was never anything planned for that, it just happened that the fans took it to mean much more than it was supposed to.
Liberals are out to sublimily message children that hetero cislationships do not work out.
Thanks to adventure time, regular show, and SU, we will have a generation of gays and cucks.
Steven as an alpha.
i`m glad to live to see this day
Better question, why don't they make him asexual NOW if they don't want him to flirt or sex girls. I guess they mostly have. They wanna push that isn't trying to impress PB in a romantic way at all anymore, even when that was a key motivation for him before, mmhmm mmhmm.
Steven can get a girl while dressed like a girl.
Can you say the same thing?
You know Gumball usually mess things up but at least he has good intentions. Not to mention that Penny is at least loyal to him. Besides, it's not like he actually set his own girlfriend up a fight for his pleasure...
This adventure time reference......Ouch, salt on old wound. Still, Gumball has to be set things carefully. If he keeps on going to be like this, he will likely to become a very very unlikable character in the end.
