Ratchet and Clank was really made for a television or movie adaption. I hope it's good.

I'm at least glad they kept some people from the games. it's better than any other game movie so far.

Latinofag here, no theater in my country brings animated films with subtitles anymore so I'll be stuck hearing a shitty spanish dub.

It's 2006 Astro Boy all over again. The characterizations are going to be wrong (they were already being flanderized to hell by the first PS3 game) and the celebrities are most likely not going to fit the characters. Notice how all the designs have been softened, everyone has those fucking goofy wide-eyed colorful pupil expressions, and they gave Drax pupils, for fuck's sake. It's like they're taking little details that made things unique and saying, "no, can't have that, we gotta do this the big hollywood cg movie way because the lowest common denominator might not like it."

Like with Astro Boy, Nick Cage as Dr. Tenma? Fucking really? I'm probably going to see R&C anyway but it's going to be a disappointment to anyone who played the PS2 games.
>>
>>79759561
Its for the best anon. Jak deserves better than the current industry, better to die with dignity than live as a soulless husk of former glory.
>>
>>79760170
Goddamn, I bought Lost Frontier for the PS2 and couldn't even get past the first two levels it sucked so bad.
>>
>>79758600
I wonder how incompetent and villainous they'll make Qwark in this movie considering he was a bad guy in the game its based off of.
>>
Just wait till we get the Sly Cooper movie!

Boy, that's gonna be dumb.
>>
>>79760524
The PS3 games were way better than the PS2 ones.

Granted I love the PS2 ones a ton too, but no idea why people write off the PS3 ones and hold the originals on such a high pedestal.
>>
>>79763943
I loved a crack in time.
Never finished into the nexus however.
>>
>>79763978
Crack in Time is awesome ,definitely my favorite.

Also really like Nexus, despite being so short. Glad they seem to be bringing the jetpack from that back into the reboot.
>>
>>79759638
J&D could make a good movie though. I am not a fan of 2 & 3 but they had a cool setting and characters. I would watch a movie based on one of those games or both.
>>
>>79763764
The R&C movie actually looks like the games which is nice
With the Sly movie they completely scrapped the games' amazing visual style for something totally shitty and generic, it will be guaranteed awful
>>
Eh, I just want Rainmaker to crumble before they get the "sequel" to ReBoot out. Buy up the rights and whatever's laying around in any old computers/"the archives" and give it to the co-creators. Oh and a ink a deal with Netflix.

What do you guys think will be the opening weekend box office for this, anyway?

I'm guessing in the $5-9 mil range.

J&D had a really good universe, even going by the first game alone. It really felt like there was a huge world out there. From Misty Island, to the Snowy Mountains, to underwater Lost Precursor City...

The sequels mostly took place in and around Haven City, but they did manage to take the steampunk setting of the first one and mash it with a cyberpunk feel pretty well.

For example, in the original game Eco were just energy streams that came from inside the planet that could power windmills and give you temporary powers.

In the following games Eco is used for just about everything. We see a mine where they dig up Eco to power the city and its shields. Eco is also manufactured into ammunition for weapons, and Green Eco being the healing type is turned into medpacks.

And then there's the whole "Dark Warrior Program", and whatnot, but realistically any city-state like Haven City would be stupid not to try to create Eco-infused super soldiers. Not just to protect them from Metal Heads and the monsters that lurk outside the walls, but from other nations too (and The Lost Frontier, as mediocre as it was, did confirm other nations were performing similar experiments).

And that's really only a small part of the world building that they did with the franchise. Which that said, I still don't think it'd work as a movie as much as I may like to see one, and return to that universe. Ratchet & Clank has always been more suited for that, and has more mainstream appeal. But they've never captured my imagination in the same way Jak and Daxter did.
>>
They're doing a good job at destroying Ratchet's character in it so far, moreso than Into The Nexus managed to. I always wanted a RC movie but dear god not where they make everything that was good about the game horrible.
>>
>>79758600
I though it was adapted from their first game? Who are these characters? Where the fuck is Drekk?
>>
>>79760524

What are you on about? The majority of the cast is the one from the fucking games.

James Arnold Taylor is still Ratchet, David "Yes!" Kaye is still Clank, and so on.

Only major change is Drek being played by that dude from the Sopranos.
>>
>>79765521

Drek's in the background, you can see his eyes. He's the one voiced by Paul Giamatti now instead of Kevin Michael Richardson.

As for the story, it's basically a condensed version of the original PS2 trilogy. Or to be more apt, it's the first game with elements of the second and third included. Dr. Nefarious is going to appear in his organic form, likely leading to his robotization either halfway in or at the climax. And it seems Quark will probably have his redemption arc like in the third game without having his solo revenge scheme from the second.
>>
>>79759853

All they care about is their cinematic games now.

We even got to see Jack concept art for a game they trashed in favor of Last of Us

Popular meme is that Sony's game consoles are movie machines. What makes this meme so persistent is that it comes from so many different angles

>PS3 had no games and was thought of as mainly a blu ray player during the beginning of its lifespan
>many of the commercially successful exclusives on PS3 and PS4 are very "cinematic," featuring lengthy cutscenes and QTEs. This leads people to criticize them as "movie games" or "interactive movies" or even just movies
>posters on neoGaf (forum full of Sony fanboys) will often criticize games for being to "video gamey"--which leads many to the conclusion that these people would rather interact with movies than play games
>PS3 at one point came bundled with Talledegah Nights, leading many dank memesters to joke that the movie was its only worthwhile exclusive

Agreed. 3 remains my favourite of all of them, with A Crack in Time taking second place.
>>
>>79766519

Honestly, they're all good. Though I do admit I barely remember Going Commando.

Now, the multiplayer ones (All 4 One and the other) are pretty meh. And Into the Nexus was kind of lacking compared to Crack in Time
>>
>>79766577

I'm not upset about any scores, I'm just telling you off for shitposting for no reason.
>>
>>79766581
One thing I liked about 3 is that it felt like you weren't alone in trying to save the galaxy. You had the Galactic president, the crew of that starship that's your base, the Q-Force and the Galactic Rangers all there too.
>>
Reminder that the writer for this is also doing Popeye.
>>
>>79766659

Let's not forget, it's being animated by the Reboot people, which is pretty rad
>>
This movie is an anomaly. It's got no promotion, it's based on a series that most people know nothing about and yet fucking Stallone and Rosario Dawson are in it.

I wanna believe itll be good

But I just can't get myself hyped for it since stuff like this is usually trash. I know they have the original writers and the 3 main voice actors from the games.

But I just can't get hype about it. Not until I hear some reviews
>>
>>79766732
Im sure Stallone is probably just doing a bit part so they can say Stallone is in it.
>>
>>79764053
All the cutscenes in Sly Cooper are done in a quirky 2D comic format, aren't they? At least the ones that don't happen in level...
>>
>>79759919
Well 4 seems to be set up as a series finale, unless they go full Metal Gear and Uncharted 5 is Young Sully
>>
>>79767982
Strong franchaise usually means more popular among people. On top of that Jak kinda went silent after 3 so even though many want more from it the fact we even got like 2 games after that was a surprise.
>>
>>79767988
As much as I love Kevin, is Drek really that good a villain? I enjoyed the original Ratchet, but I felt Dreak and the whole DESTROY PLANETS FOR PROFIT thing was kinda a dumb storyline. I could care less what they do with Drek, even getting a big fat liar to voice him.
>>
>>79764079
They should have released this film YEARS ago when the IP was still fresh.
>>
>>79769875
Of course Drek's not a good villain. There's a reason why the only villain anyone cares about is Nefarious. Most of the villains in R&C are shit. But Kevin Michael Richardson is awesome and deserves as much as he can get. At the very least his voice is memorable.

Wrong. Going with 2D motion comic style designs is asking for an instant bomb. 2D anything will NOT sell. Get it through your worthless skull. /co/'s head is as hard as rock. No wonder you could never work in the entertainment media industry.

These movies have a job, to make money. Visually appealing designs to get mainstream audiences to buy up the merchandise are important. So yes, the wonky flash animated Sly Cooper comic style shit? That would turn off kiddies. You need to join the legion and not stand out because very few can carve out their own unique visual styles in animated media and succeed (Laika). The risk is much to great.
>>

>>
>>79768346

Presumably to make him a little more expressive, and to play on the fact that he's "acting" more benevolent in this incarnation as opposed to the outright callousness of his original depiction.

Like, this time around it's a somewhat bigger secret that he's ripping up planets or whatever
>>
>>79769339

The thing that's weird though is Drake's Deception already was a finale more or less. Nate lost the Drake ring, more or less realized he was just killing people more so than finding bountiful treasure, and finally shacked up with Elena.
>>
>>79770393

Except he's in the movie. Have you not watched the trailers? Or even read articles about it that explicitly mention his presence? He's even still voiced by the same guy
