I want to say yes, but I've got a real bad feeling. I think I'd just be satisfied if Sly as a franchise doesn't end up like Crash or Spyro. I'd rather it just die now for good than be corralled into an unrelated toy franchise or have its emaciated husk dug up and puppeteered as something like its original self in name only.
>>79727796 Only if the writing is solid/tight for a movie. Keep in mind that the original Sly games were written like shallow generic 90s animal character cartoons and that's got no pull in modern day.
It needs great writing like Rango or Kung Fu Panda's 2nd film in particular if they want Clockwerk to leave an impression on audiences. An animated film is as strong as the antagonist and the link to the hero.
Also Sony is currently not advertising Ratchet's film. If they're not creating hype for Ratchet due out this year, then Sly automatically has failed.
>>79730699 >the original Sly games were written like shallow generic 90s animal character cartoons I'm not sure what that means. Characters didn't get permanently crippled in any cartoons I watched in the 90s. And anyway 90s shit is "retro" now.
>>79730852 >>79730699 The two of you said it. Marketing/advertising is key, especially in films starring anthros. This is why Zootopia had an aggressive marketing campaign since last year starting with those posters before the animated teasers and official trailers.
Sony wants to fail. Not as badly as Nintendo, but they lust for failure.
>>79731226 Yeah, it looks like there's tons of character arc skipped with him and Murray. I never dreamed this would be a totally faithful adaptation, but Bentley driving the van for the first time was a pretty big damn deal when it happened. Skipping over it seems like a disservice.
>>79731170 I actually kind of like the design overall. You can immediately tell it's Bentley but with changes to fit the style, like the teeth. I wouldn't say the glasses need to be totally opaque like in the games, but it'd be cool if they always had at least a little bit of glare on them.
What I really want to be faithful to the games is his crippling. You think American audiences are ready for that?
>>79731716 Yeah they are. Why? Bentley's voice is annoying, so mainstream audiences won't care too much for an annoying sounding character being crippled. Bentley is no Barbara Gordon who amasses white knight faggots to his side.
>>79731848 >Bentley's voice is annoying, so mainstream audiences won't care too much for an annoying sounding character being crippled. Bentley is no Barbara Gordon who amasses white knight faggots to his side.
>>79732128 And even then the performance is shoddy. Honestly I despise the forced obnoxious accent that fantards demand for the character. You know what? Just to kick fanboys in the balls, accents aren't hot. They're mostly annoying. Mei Ling from Metal Gear got hotter when she lost her retarded sounding accent.
>>79732128 >one of the better ones There's something about this phrase I find kind of funny when there have been only four. Grey is good for putting everything into her delivery, but I just don't think it worked here. The thing about putting in your everything is that you either spectacularly nail it or spectacularly crash and nothing in between. I love Grey in everything else, but I prefer all the other Carmelita performances to hers.
Unless they completely redid the models to make them not shit since I last checked on this, not a fucking chance
The fact that they felt the need to jump on the 3D animation bandwagon for this instead of the 2d animation that every fucking game has had for its cutscenes should speak a lot as to what their decision making process will be for the rest of it
They don't give a shit about the franchise or staying true to form, they're just testing the waters and I'd rather the movie flopped and they lost interest and moved on to try raping something else than for it to succeed and turn the series into another mindless cash cow
Hollywood needs to get over it's fucking boner for 3D animation and actually consider 2D films once in a while again
>>79730357 >I think I'd just be satisfied if Sly as a franchise doesn't end up like Crash or Spyro
I don't think that's likely, because Crash and Spyro ended up at Universal after the split with Sony, and now they are at Activision due to some buyouts and mergers. Sony owns Suckerpunch so Sly Cooper and the franchise creator are still under the same roof, even though SP only really offers input on the franchise rather than developing it directly.
Sony doesn't own the creators of Ratchet and Clank but they have a healthy relationship with them. Insomniac had the opportunity to be bought out by Sony but they aren't interested due to wanting more freedom, but Sony still works with them and they have a lot of control over R&C.
>>79729808 I hated Sly 4's models forever but they've actually grown on me. Still don't compare to the originals but they're pretty good nonetheless and i wish they at least went with them for the movie, or based the movie models off them.
Of course, the scales are kind of tipped in Sly 4's favor because it gave us best husbando
>>79733928 >The fact that they felt the need to jump on the 3D animation bandwagon for this instead of the 2d animation that every fucking game has had for its cutscenes should speak a lot as to what their decision making process will be for the rest of it
Maybe they were thinking "we're a 3D animation studio so let's do it in 3D?"
>>79734605 See, I'm one of the few people who LIKE her Thieves in Time model, but I prefer the in game model. The 2D cutscenes design is just.... a little TOO furry for me.
I'll be honest though, I never considered the Sly games THAT great. I mean they're good and fun, yeah, but they never really WOWed me. Playing Sly 2 now, I feel like dragging out each villain for two chapters kind of hurts it.
>>79734660 I felt bad for Bentley but it made sense in the grand scheme of things.
He made peace with Sly overshadowing him, partly because Sly and him were family and partly because Sly is a really great guy. She had no such hangups like that, and it'd make sense she'd eventually strike out again.
>the voice >the design >the personality aww yeah boy here we go it's ti- >fucking dogshit character model that looks like a monster >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXiyGu7gOZM >most of the fanart is totally off-model horseshit
>>79734967 That's because Zootopia's females are LITERAL bipdeal animals. So their bodies are NOT attractive no matter how hard /co/ spams Judy or Gazelle. One of the reasons I don't care for Zootopia is the art style. Literal upright animals do nothing and look awkward compared to more humanoid ones like in Starfox or Sly Cooper. So yeah, the reason Carmelita Fox looks good is because she's meant to look notably humanoid. Geez Zootopia's designs suck dick.
>>79734660 I wasn't expecting it, but I thought it was handled decently. Her phase as the Black Baron in 3 wasn't exactly a good first impression, after all. Penelope's love story with Bentley in 3 was heartwarming and cozy, but I liked seeing her turn out as a bad influence on him. Also, while easy, I fucking loved her Thieves in Time level and her boss fight. Totally worth the heel turn.
>>79735119 I'm pretty sure the implication is they both knew that it was bullshit and just went with it.
I wonder what a mystery solving game based on that ending would be like. >multiple ways through each level >can swap between each character >sly can sneak in through the vent >open a side door from inside to let carmelita in
>>79735119 Maybe under Yes means Yes that'd be "rape," but men have been lying to women in order to get laid since the dawn of humanity.
It was a dick move on his part though, admittedly, and it eventually caught up with him. Carmelita was lying to him also though, because she made up a false history for him. The only difference is that she didn't know that Sly was faking. So I guess that means they "raped" each other.
>>79732128 First was the best voice in my opinion. >>79734682 >Playing Sly 2 now, I feel like dragging out each villain for two chapters kind of hurts it. I agree on this. I always feel it especially drags in Rajan's second chapter. That's probably the worst level in the game.
>If they just fixed the goddamn face this would be fappable
Welcome to the pain of browsing furfaggot porn by necessity, since they're the only ones who draw your retarded, obscure fetish's bodily aspects in an appealing way, albeit doing so with their horrible OCs with disgustingly-ugly faces.
Every single one of the fuckers has to plop a poorly-drawn/Dreamworks smugface-esque/horrifying in general/all of the above animal head on top of a perfectly-good (seemingly-painted) body, and ruin the whole fucking thing. They draw great humanoid bodies in most cases and with very attractive figures, but they always have to take a fat shit on otherwise-great output by drawing terrible-looking fur all over, replacing the human head with a freakish unfitting animal head, and shoving some kind of tail up its ass for no good reason.
The pain I feel as someone who likes women with pudgy figures that don't go off the deep-end into full landwhale territory, along with women with generally-exaggerated figures, knowing only the godforsaken furfags draw it with a decently quality level before furfagging it up, is pain. I've practically got a headlessness fetish by now, just from how many times I've scrolled a page or edited an image to do away with the horrify beast-head that makes no sense, while fapping to the body.
>>79734682 TETO, I still love them dearly. I actually liked the multiple levels in 2. Let us get to know the Klaw gang more intimately and explore more variety in their levels. So in India, you get your fancy ancient palace but also an untamed jungle. In Czech, you get a stark nightmare prison, but also a war-torn gothic cathedral with tanks blowing each other up. In Canada, you get a classic train heist, but also an elaborate and perilous logging camp. I liked the extra time spent and areas explored more intimately.
>>79735428 Well, at least they didn't do it again afterwards. 3 goes back to a one location/boss limit, as does 4. I think another reason they did it in 2 was to better draw out the different Clockwork parts as macguffin. Had to get the most mileage out of every piece of the guy.
>>79735320 >boo hoo sometimes my fetish image isn't 100% perfect
Reversed Gender Roles as a concept has literally two terribly drawn doujins total. Other than that there is a British domestic abuse PSA where the roles are reversed. That is ALL the content of the fetish. I literally have to jerk it to a fucking PSA.
>>79734042 >>79734118 It's drawn by a furry artist. They always end up looking like dogs instead of the animal they are supposed to represent. I've seen it happen all the time. Pic related is a deer character from Bojack, drawn by a furry. Looks like a fucking dog
>>79735708 >>79735768 You'd think furries of all people would be used to draw all kinds of animals. But if all you draw all day are canine-based characters it might be a little harder to fall out of habits.
>>79734660 I saw it coming. I never fully trusted her in Sly 3, and her absence in Sly 4 made me suspect she'd gone back to her old ways. As soon as I heard about a "Black Knight" I immediately made the connection with the Black Barron, especially because of the technology-themed enemies in the Medieval England level.
>>79736109 Carmelita is a variation of the Inspector Javert archetype. She's very much about catching Sly and doesn't look the other way when he breaks the law, but at the same time she wants to make sure he's treated fairly and recognizes his good qualities. Their whole character dynamic is an elaborate mating dance.
>>79734660 My main problem with her going evil was the fact that she said Sly was holding him back from scientific greatness. Bitch, he built a fucking time machine, that's like the pinnacle of scientific achievement and you want him to build "weapons?"
>>79741097 But that's politically incorrect as it would send the message to Little Twats that being attractive is important. After all /co/ women are beautiful even if they're bitches, flat, obese doncha know?
You're not getting anything visually appealing with female designs in these neutered/emasculated times we live in. And FYI gaming is headed down the road of emasculation with PC Watchdogs little by little gaining ground.
>>79741552 Obscure meets famous? I hope you imply Judy Hopps is famous because she's marketed by motherfucking Disney. Carmelita Fox always belonged to an underrated series whose barely more popular than Klonoa.
>>79741577 They sell, but they must have seriously established themselves decades back like Mario and Sonic. Even so, Mario's sales have dipped a bit in recent times. Makes me wonder what Nintendo plans for Mario's next main entry.
Has to be better than what they're doing with Starfox Zero.
Here's something I don't get. Gaming wise, Carmelita Fox has had more exposure. Despite this Krystal from Starfox is MUCH more popular and drawn. But her screen time is:
- A minute intro in Starfox Adventures - A smallish support role in Starfox Assault no different from Fox's other wingmen. - A somewhat substantial but HIGHLY unpopular role where she was a massive cunt in SF Command. Also ugly ass art style for that game.
Even now with SF0 on the way she's got fans wanting her back. So why the popularity? Nintendo's Starfox has never been that high tier of a franchise for the company. I think it barely edges out Metroid.
