There's nothing wrong with the costume, it looks great in the promo shots that hage ben released. The problem is that it's shot so poorly that the quality of the costume design is not evident in the trailers.

Bascially, the costume designer has done a great job but the poor cinematography is doing it a great disservice.

So far it looks like the movie version is lacking in a little detail. I love the suit on the right so much. It's so cool and it's like the concept of Afrofuturism brought to life. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before.

I'm not saying he needs to be the original costume 100%, you can improvise a little bit, but they go too far with the tacticool shit IMO and visually, it makes him seem a lot less special, only adding to the odd combination of normal people + Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor, who all look like comic characters, it just doesn't work well to me visually, at least in X-Men they are dedicated to one visual style and it works cause it all fits together even if it isn't the classic look

But in the Nolan trilogy, a lot of Batman comic books, as well as a lot of Daredevil comic books, there's a lot of shinobi/ninja influence in their gear.

Not even remotely so. They could really go even further with it. Not saying that they should or that I would even want them to, but call me when Cap looks like a Liefeld 90's antihero, with all the pouches and wielding big ass heavy guns. They've still nailed that superheroic look with the Cap suits, while still showing that military influence, in an intelligent manner. I can look at those suits and think, "That's a superhero, but also a super soldier."

Well it works just fine to me. Cap has never looked out of place.

Black Widow sort of wears a spy catsuit version of the same thing and Falcon in CW is wearing something similar too. It's not out of place at all. Dude, it's a comic book superhero movie, of course all these different heroes are going to be coming from different places.

Not a terrible lot, there are motifs here and there if you're creative, but it's not just a ninja suit painted red or with bat ears painted on it

The first Avengers Cap suit was pretty "super hero"ish just because of how bright it was , but it also wasn't a very good design, so I feel like rather than perfect a Cap suit that does trigger the thought of "super hero" they decided to just go the opposite route and make him look more like a soldier, which isn't the dumbest idea but we already have too many characters who don't look "super" imo in the limelight, don't need any more. Hell, they could fix the whole problem by giving the other characters extra flare even

You know the difference between hero costume and filming costume, right?

Look at OP's image. The one on the left is a filming costume. It's less detailed because it's not intended for closeups (whether it actually ends up in some is immaterial - you build a lighter, more flexible one for the majority of shots because people won't have time to focus on it watching the movie) but it has the main points and conveys that this is the same character as on the right. The one on the right is a "hero" costume - intended for closeups, the official design for promo art, and so on. It's much more ornate and as a result, harder to maintain during filming, as well as harder to move in and whatever else.

Part of that is down to materials - glues have limits, it's hard to hide zippers and the sheer cost of making as many detailed hero suits as you would need to get through filming (because god damn do costumes tear and scuff easily) means that it's very impractical, even for a huge budget, to produce only hero suits. In part that cost would be amplified by the longer time it would take to change or fix damaged or dirty costumes, as the more complex they are, the longer that takes. I know, you think they're both the same with different trim, but they're almost certainly not.

tl;dr OP is making a (You) thread about two obviously distinct costumes, and you're going along with it because you're unobservant.

I actually love all the little engraved details and the silver accents, which both emphasize that it's lined with vibranium and prevent his face from being a featureless black blob.

The only problem is that the lighting and cinematography in the movie itself look like they'll be so shitty that you'll never see any of those intricate designs.

Serious question, have you ever seen a modern soldier before? If Batman's gear counts as a real superhero suit and not just "soldier with a cape" then Cap's suit is not just "multicolored soldier." I mean none of his costumes looked like what a real soldier would wear, not even the first avenger one. They look like costumes with a military theme. Or in the case of the Avengers one, shitty cosplay.

I'm seriosly wondering where you've seen soldiers that wear masks like the one Cap has or have uniforms made out of similar materials or even in similar shapes. Cap's uniform looks pretty damn unique to me.
