Promoting obesity, in comic form.
Do your worst, /co/.
Give me all your structured arguments for and against this,
but mostly against.
There is nothing positive about being fat.
The heroine is just lucky to have a superpower, unlike fat people in real life who manage to do meaningful things because of actual work, dedication etc.
There is no good lesson to learn from this comic.
It'd be nice if this comic actually resulted in Faith steadily taking on healthier eating and workout habits. Like, she'd never become super-model tier, but eventually she'd reach a healthy weight for her size. Maybe still a bit thick of frame, but not in danger of dying of a heart attack before she's 40.
But who am I kidding, why encourage people to improve their lifestyles when we can make them feel comfortable with the idea of wallowing in their own bad habits?
Fat people in comics don't automatically promote obesity, just like gay people don't automatically promote taking it up the butt.
Seeing as you're a giant faggot though, it's easy to come to that wrong conclusion.
>Implying I'm not into fatties
I should poison the genepool just out of spite.
tumblr pretending to be /pol/ pretending to be /co/ cares.
Just kidding it's probably all /co/
One I think. Sold a wopping 20,000 issues
that's actually really high for Valiant
Because the people flipping out weren't born until after Valiant first went under and don't read anything that isn't out of context panels from Big 2 comics, so they aren't aware of the Valiant reboot either.
>There's been three valiant reboots.
Huh. I had no idea.
>Shadow Man is the only good thing to come out of the second reboot
>Shadow Man is the only bad thing to come out of the third reboot
Sure is POTTERY in here.
I like fat girls. Especially in latex.
She died at a young age.
Also, besides her positive way to see life, she isn't made to be a role model.
I mean, why you act like a 40 years old housewife or a sjw, expecting your comics to shapes the life of da children?
Valiant isn't for children, and you can enjoy a comic without treating the character as a model for life.
Part of me wishes this book didn't exist, mostly because I don't want Valiant and Faith being known for this stupid body politics nonsense
Then I remember that current comic fandoms are completely terrible on both ends and wish it would just burn down to the ground
No, it's fat just not human orb fat....depending on artist.
Unless this is what we call curvy now.
From first wave Valiant Comics. I think a lot of this is due to artists not really able to draw female characters with varying builds. There's the default Wonder Woman frame, teen heroine which is just Wonder Woman but shorter, then super huge.
>sjws are retarded, comics and cartoons don't affect people's political opinions that much, why care about how races and genders are represented
>HOLY FUCK I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS COMIC STARS A FAT PERSON THIS IS FUCKING PROMOTING OBESITY
>If she's a fat superhero then who cares.
Nobody cared until she got her own mini, now everyone who prior to now didn't even know Valiant existed is super fucking offended that there exists a superhero that happens to be fat.
Mr. Incredible also had a shit-ton of muscle, and exercised.
I don't see faith bench pressing freight trains
>Male Character is fat
>Gets called on it
>Gets in shape
>Female Character is fat
>Gets called on it
>They're just a bunch of jerks
though in seriousness I doubt anyone actually cares and it's a bait thread because /co/ is easy to bait. I doubt anyone other than the three faith fans care about her
Of all the white, black, asian, gay, lesbian, alien, transgender, monkey, whatever people who get superpowers on a nearly daily basis in comics, I'd be willing to bet there'd be a much higher ratio of fat supers than comics lead you to believe. Is it so bad for there to be one fatty? I mean it's not healthy, being a hamplanet I would know. But it makes more sense than everyone who gets powers either being ripped or instantly becoming ripped
Like Peter Parker in Ultimate Spiderman, goes from skinny-fat CM Punk build to Scott Steiner as soon as he gets bit by the spider
Tell me honestly, anon, you will never say "no" if woman like this wants to dominate on you.
But it will be too much normal, it's boring.
I don't know, but let's say a fat person get granted super powers and decides to fight crime. If he/she decides to go on patrols or fight villians it requires a lot of physical exercise (punching, running, etc) and I would think eventually all that exercise will pay off so even if they started off fat when they got their powers some months or years of doing that will either slim them down or muscle them up. Now if their super powers gave them the power of flight or levitation then you have a better argument.
And you do?
10/10 girls fatter than Faith get built 10/10 BFs all the time, and girls are always able to date 2-3 points up on the scale. It's silly to think they'd be wrong to think they have a shot.
You're literally running around all day, lifting heavy things, doing a lot of physical activities. That's bound to burn a bunch of calories. If you're a super hero you're basically forced to get fit or get fucked.
Why the fuck do you think that superheroes are all fit? Why do you think other supers comment about how another super let themselves go after they retire for whatever reason?
Sure, non superpowered villains can be fat, and the villains with powers that are fat usually have powers relating to their weight. So tell me, what the fuck is her power? Is it to literally never lose weight? Is it to have the ability to fly, but choosing to be so fucking lazy that you'd rather sit in bed until you're a whale? What is it?
You know, I'll collect damn near anything if I think it will increase in value over the years. But some things, some things are so shitty that I refuse to buy it.
Fat people should be reviled, not lauded.
Why are you pretending flight would burn calories when it is obviously a 0-calorie activity for any non-natural flyer?
To be fair, though, can anyone that actually read a comic with her in it explain the origin of her powers?
>implying it's not a prevalent idea
>That's bound to burn a bunch of calories
Burning calories and getting fit is mostly what you eat.
She could go around fighting crime while eating every other block and never lose weight.
No that's what I'm asking. What the fuck is her power?
It's obvious she can fly, but what the fuck else does she do? Does she literally fly everywhere to avoid walking? Does she never fight crime? At some fucking point she'll be forced to do physical activities that make her lose weight, unless this entire comic is just about a fat woman doing absolutely nothing and abusing the power of flight to never have to walk.
The first issue was okay. Felt like there was some sort of huge back story I wasnt privy to. The fact that she was some fat chick wasnt really a point of anything nor brought up by anyone, so it's more of just a weird design choice for the character. It was okay. Some cute pages.
>You're literally running around all day, lifting heavy things, doing a lot of physical activities.
She flies. She lifts with telekinesis. inb4 >I know how telekinesis works.
>That's bound to burn a bunch of calories. If you're a super hero you're basically forced to get fit or get fucked.
>Why the fuck do you think that superheroes are all fit? Why do you think other supers comment about how another super let themselves go after they retire for whatever reason?
In the real world they all not are fit. See for example.
Not that it matters, this is a made up world, as such it can have any fucking rule. I know you've only been reading big two comics for a couple of months, but why the fuck do I have to explain this on a comics board in 2016?
It helps that zephyr is the only likeable one. >>79716795
She does have a heart attack in end of harbringer at 57.
>He hasn't seen a super hot guy with a fatty. Chubby chasers are weird but they exist.
OK, so I'm not allowed to voice my opinions because some other people that aren't in this thread right now hold some other, tangentially related opinions? That's fucking retarded.
>clearly pandering to a bunch of people that in all probably, don't read comics.
What if someone just wanted to make a fat superhero? Why does everything you don't like have to be pandering?
The back story is literally the previous comics which you should read because they help you understand her character better and also why people like her compared every other member of harbinger.
>unless this entire comic is just about a fat woman doing absolutely nothing and abusing the power of flight to never have to walk
That's pretty much what it is, yeah. You'd know this if you spent more time reading comics and less time getting offended by the existence of comics you never intend on reading in the first place.
If they just wanted to make a fat super hero then people wouldn't be making a big deal about her being fat. Ok fine, make a fat super hero, but don't waste pages basing the story around it. That's how I know it's pandering.
It's just like the new Hellblazer comic. They're pandering to the tumblr crowd by giving 2 or 3 pages from each issue to the fact that yes indeed, John is fucking a dude. Does it have anything to do with Hellblazing? No not really.
>Felt like there was some sort of huge back story I wasnt privy to
Probably because she's been around for years and anyone that reads Valiant, or at least Harbringer, would already be familiar with her backstory?
But this wasn't made for people that don't read comics. If it were, then it would be pandering to you. This was made for people that read Harbringer and wanted a Faith spin-off. If you've never read Harbringer, let alone never read any Valiant, then you have no right to even have an opinion on the matter since you're clearly just yet another anti-SJW bandwaggon jumper getting triggered by whatever the shill mill has told you to get offended by today.
>If they just wanted to make a fat super hero then people wouldn't be making a big deal about her being fat
That doesn't make any sense.
>Ok fine, make a fat super hero, but don't waste pages basing the story around it. That's how I know it's pandering.
Have you read it?
Look at it like this. Obviously, every woman has some level of innate beauty. A base value on the 10 scale, derived from things like facial features, limb structure, hair quality, and so on. The unchanging things.
That gets modified by everything else, like make-up quality, grooming, weight. For you, a 400+ pound girl is going to get a big negative modifier. For others, a girl under 200 is going to get a huge negative modifier.
Regardless of this, a 10/10 is still going to be a 10/10, before modifiers. Thus, 10/10s that are also fat are able to exist (and, as I was saying, are then capable of picking up any guy that doesn't take higher weights as a negative).
How am I doing damage control? I literally asked what her powers were outside of flight. I wanted to know, because if it was anything that required her to physically do something, she'd end up losing weight unless she wasn't an active superhero.
She has telekenesis. She can fly and never has to lift a finger to help someone. That explains why she's fat. It makes sense. It's literally the perfect way to pull off a fat superhero.
I don't get why you're so upset. I obviously don't read these comics, and came here looking for clarification. How does this blow me the fuck out and make me need to damage control when I got the exact answers I was looking for?
>They're pandering to the tumblr crowd by giving 2 or 3 pages from each issue to the fact that yes indeed, John is fucking a dude. Does it have anything to do with Hellblazing? No not really.
If they did gay-sex an important part of plot, you would crying OH GOD, THEY MAKING PLOT AROUND BUTTFUCKING.
Not him, but you called it an asspull. That tends to be used in a negative way, like you're saying the author is lazy.
Your post comes off as "the author is bad for using flight and telekinesis to make a character fat", instead of "that's a perfectly reasonable explanation" like you say in this post.
It's the entire comic! Wheres the comics about normal sized folk who aren't cut or fat as fuck?
It's garbage and it won't be around for very long once the "fat girl" shine wears off.
No if they made it important to the plot, important to the occult part that made hellblazer so popular it would be ok. Hell it was OK when John fucked a dog and a chimp. Ok well he didn't fuck the chimp but he would have if it meant winning.
Yes captcha were talking about fat people.
>It's the entire comic!
If it's the entire comic then it should be easy to post a page proving your point. If it's the entire comic, then you can grab literally any page and it would prove your point.
So if it's that easy to prove your point, then prove it.
Aside from the fact that her fat ass is plastered on the cover of the comic?
Ask yourself this, why did a ton of people go out and buy this and then have it CGC sealed? Because they thought it would appeal to the fat shit crowd out there and increase in value. If that isn't text book pandering by the comic book creators I don't know what is.
>It's the entire comic!
So you got nothing, okay.
>Wheres the comics about normal sized folk who aren't cut or fat as fuck?
It's called Harbinger... the team was a normal guy, a normal girl, a fat girl, a hot stripper girl and a guy who turned into a muscled guy.
Sorry if I was coming off that way. I mean, I do think that it makes sense that they are fat now with those powers. But I also feel that it is sort of cheap.
Now again, I never read the comics and have no idea what's up. But is this about fat acceptance and stuff? If so, couldn't the author put in some backstory about how the character used to be a normal sized girl, but something happened to her that made her depressed and let herself go? And then she overcomes whatever made her depressed and learned to love herself for who she is now and is happy with her weight, and how everyone else can be happy for who she is as well?
>why did a ton of people go out and buy this and then have it CGC sealed?
Because it's Valiant and Valiant's fanbase is made up almost exclusively of 90s style collectors and always has been. They do this for every Valiant #1 and have been doing it since the 90s.
It's amazing how much you continue to not know what the fuck you're talking about.
>and it won't be around for very long once the "fat girl" shine wears off.
Good joke negro
>the comic is bad because speculators bought it
>before putting Faith solo out a thread involving any Valiant character wasn't even a monthly thing
>now we have a Faith thread every other day
Man the Marvel system really does work.
>frank has murderers people
>OH YEAH TELL ME ALL THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT MURDERERS THEN?!?
Because they don't even have the decency to put the comic in a black bag. I have to blindly slide an issue of anything else over it in the stands just so I can browse without getting so mad I have to leave.
No totally, I understand that. I dont really read valiant, outside of a huge fucking collection of the old SMB comics I have that Valiant published.
I was just giving an honest thought off the top of my head from reading the first issue. I was expecting something based off the cover when the storytime started, and it turned out to be not bad.
>people get upset over shit like this
Can someone explain why, exactly?
Without using the "look what site you're on" argument
that's some second hand embarrassment shit right there
sorry but it's still dumb as fuck no matter how many buzzwords I am served
take that shit back to the kitchen and make something better you microwave-dinner eating fool
People that buy into the sweat-causing Jew regret all of the time and effort they wasted on getting /fit/, so the threat of fat people NOT being as hated as they were lead to believe takes away their last reason to live.
Naturally, the fitties can only respond to this threat by redoubling their efforts to make other people feel as bad as they do.
The idea of a fat superhero doesn't make any sense to me for two simple reasons:
>The level of physical activity required to be a superhero should prevent someone from being overweight altogether.
>Someone who is, for whatever reason, unable to mitigate their own obesity will not last long as a superhero (unless they have some OP power that requires no physicality whatsoever, such as telepathic abilities or the power to control time).
>But is this about fat acceptance and stuff?
It's not, in fact she dies at age 57 from a heart attack. You can't get more anti-fat acceptance than that.
You're a little late to the threat. We already covered that her powers are telekinesis and flight, and she doesn't have a flight muscle or wings or something to justify her flight burning calories.
Yeah, she's huge, but the billowing of her clothing is a little deceptive. She's not even "need a scooter to get through Wal*Mart" fat.
>G-Guys if you don't blindly bitch about everything then the other boards will say mean things about us!
Stop desperately seeking approval from literal autists on an anonymous mongolian meme forum. Who fucking cares if the other boards "laugh at us"? We laughed at /v/ for years and they never gave a fuck, but that was back when we had enough back bone to think for ourselves.
what about if someone had such a high degree of super strength and stamina that they couldn't exercise to lose weight?
that even using their abilities to fight off an army wouldn't make them break a sweat after like a week of fighting, what then?
He's just sperging over a fat character. As has been pointed out, she canonically will die at age 57 as a result of a heart attack because she's so fat and at no point in her mini does it try and portray being fat as something you should strive for.
Well, Butterball is physically incapable of improving his body no matter how hard he exercises due to the nature of his power. He has the worst kind of invulnerability imaginable.
this is the basis for me OC.
she is chubby, but can't workout or anything due to absurdly high degrees of strength, like OPM levels. she has an average job, a daughter and likes her life the way it is, but gets pestered to help various hero organizations with their problems. she doesn't mind helping, but its more of a "when i have free time" thing, family comes first.
Archer & Armstrong and Quantum & Woody are excellent, humor-action comics.
X-O Manowar and Imperium are excellent action comics, myself in fact I don't really rate Harbinger very highly but Toyo Harada is a GOAT character and since Harbinger leads into Imperium I would read it.
Bloodshot, Ninjak and Shadowman vary in quality, some people love them and some people hate them.
>>Morbidly obese male is an evil glutton
Because some people can't accept that the world doesn't revolve around them and want to play the victim.
Or they'll say whatever they can to get any sort of attention. Because even negative attention is still attention.
Or because the people complaining are losers, the kind that made to drink motor oil at school or are shut ins with zero human contact. they feel the need to find a target so that they can be the ones that bully instead.
Is this another 'I'm so bad I have to become what I hate/never expected to be' stories?
