diverse cast of likable characters, a pretty solid rogues gallery, world building, manages to be dramatic without characters crying all the time, creator is in a solid hetero relationship so no forced SJW shit
>>79686391 > sometimes I don't know why I keep coming here
i know this feeling very well. 4chan seems to bring SJW up one million times more frequently than tumblr (which i dont even like).
but in the interest in not getting lost in buzzwords. what went right is they have a good premise. a magical princess from another dimension seems to set up for interesting animation and lots of opportunities for jokes. like futurama taking place in the future, it gives them the ability to make up crazy scenes & lots of wiggle room for original jokes.
>Good Animation >Lovable and well written characters >Has a unique quiet atmosphere with no BGM >It's funny, especially Ludo >Has a god-tier villain >Star and Marco are adorable >No SJW Tumblr shit in the way
Almost literally a perfect cartoon except for a couple of episodes at the beginning where it felt like a crappy Canadian Spongebob rip-off.
Anon, having a female protagonist who fights and is competent IS SJW shit. You've been exposed to this lie so long that you think it normal and standard procedure. Realistically Star would be getting beaten up by the baddies if no white knight faggot was there for her in the form of the writers.
Also the nostalgia factor, Gravity Falls reminded people of the old child-sleuth/horror shows of the 90s, Star reminds people of the action-packed girl shows of the 00s, Kim Possible comes to mind. >>79697671 >Non SJ-tumblr shit Female Protagonist Male sidekick Gay characters Minority characters >Actual SJW tumblr shit Gay character being pushed in for no raisin. "Lol boys are so stupid, girls are far superior." also the boys are usually kind of effeminate, Marco is the exact opposite of this. >Over reliance on Romance plots and crying, AT and SU is guilty of this. >Forced social-political arguments.
You are flatly denying that elements of the cast which are clearly established by storytelling and narrative convention as villains are villains. You're trolling or you're fucking retarded, take your pick.
>>79701185 They are poor villains, the midget just wants power for hurr durr world domination, and Ludo probably just wants the monsters to take over Mewney btw it that the name of the place, the planet?
It's not worth spending time thinking about. The show has a general which is restricted to weekends by moderation; so when an errant thread made by somebody who is new to the show and doesn't know about the general pops up on a weekday (which is what I did a few weeks ago), some of the anons from said general start to worry for fear of more moderation.
>>79701253 I never said SU an AT where SJW, but they have that one quality. I don't mind romance, but sometimes it can slow a show done. I remember when AT was a fun show, then they stated in with the whole Fire princess romance shit, and that was it.
>>79701307 Did you miss the episode where they flat out show that the monsters "the forces of evil" were really outnumbered and outgunned compared to Star's people in a conflict? They literally got massacred.
I'd agree that AT has suffered from its drama and romance (though in moderation I thought it was very good), but with a show like SU I wouldn't consider them overdoing it if only because that's the kind of show it is.
Also Steven is not really that mush of fag, he grows up to be a real tough dude with a beard and muscles. I also love how they put in lgbt characters without having to go into a whole long political argument over it. When I talk about SJW toons, I mean cartoons/comics (specially comics) geared towards the retarded sensibilities of generation y, Bee and Puppycat come to mind, as well as comics like squirrel girl.
>>79701888 Yeah but monsters like Ludo or Toffee going after Star and her wand makes sense. Monster of the week stuff wouldn't really make sense because they didn't send her to Earth to defend it but instead do the opposite and not be part of any trouble.
>>79701915 How is it better than gravity falls? Star vs only has 3 memorable episodes. St olga , blood moon ball and the finale. While Gravity falls has declined in its reent episodes, star doesnt come close to not what he seems or northwest mystery
>What went so fucking right? I like how it triggers SJWs.
SU fans send death threats to artists and writers who portray the characters in non-progressive situations (being in monogamous, hetero relationship and etc.) but here you have SvE that promotes boys and girls being normal.
>>79705418 why does saying SJW cause so much butthurt here? you're just reinforcing the /co/mblr stereotype.
SJW as its used here can be seen as more of a blanket term, covering shows that focus more on sending a political message rather than being just fun and entertaining with a sense of normalcy. steven universe is a prime example of this: fat acceptance, LGBT shit, genderqueerness, crossdressing, designated shitting girlfriend, burger king kids club cast of friends, mostly strong women and useless or retarded men. there are very few themes in that show that fall to the norm, maybe greg/rose. by association it also extends to the myth that a cartoon cannot be good unless it features some deep and "epic" storyline to the point where any episode that is just raw fun is regarded as filler and a waste of time.
star is a welcome breathe of fresh air from this. it has an overlying plot, but its more the exception than the rule and episodes that dont necessarily advance the plot in any way can be seen as good. there is a diverse cast, fat kids and nerdy kids and normal kids. the only villainous girl around marco's school is a snobby asian chick. marco is not incompetent, in fact, hes often times been shown to be just as able to hold his own the same level as star but without magic. though its clear star and her people are oppressors, its both played for laughs and touched upon seriously without sending some sort of hamfisted "evil white people" message like SJW universe would.
>>79705712 Why is SJW being used as a scapegoat to deflect criticism? I'm clearly not a part of this fandom so maybe I'm missing a funny meme but it seems that the ones triggered in this thread are fans of the show screaming SJW whenever seeing somebody who thinks Star Vs sucks. Not having progressive, SJW shit isn't even a necessarily good thing in a show. You're just like the opposite of tumblr people who think that having progressive stuff makes a show automatically good, it doesn't and equally the lack thereof also does not make a show good because that's no legitimate basis of quality.
then a few tumblrinas started their whole whalesong about how the very mention of that word triggers them and makes the whole of /co/ worse, as if they have any right to be speaking on behalf of this board.
it's funny, because the posts shaming SJW have stayed more on topic and are outlining their exact reasons for liking this show, while you seem to be just dismissing it as "mediocre", "bland", etc. why is it any of those things? because the cast is too white? because star isnt from a post-apocalypse earth and the monsters she fights are all evil aliens?
ive watched every episode and they each have unique plots, great music that is never repeated or reused, characters you least expect being heroic, amazing amounts of world building crammed into just one season, and an overarcing plot that proceeds at a steady pace. nothing about the production of this cartoon screams "mediocre" and if you actually believe that then you have some sort of unrealistic expectations for cartoons in general.
>haven't been on /co/ in a long time >decide to stop by >see thread about cartoon I've never heard of >"This looks cool, let me check what /co/ has to say" >More in depth whining about tumblr and sjws than talking about how good this show allegedly is >Everyone who disagrees with me or gives criticism is an sjw SU lover
>>79706231 >OP asks what went right with the show >Some people think very little >Fanboys accuse them of being SJWs >Fanboys then get defensive when being called out on their shit FTFY
Also, stop basing your enjoyment of a show on the current state of Internet gender-politics, you fucking idiot. I couldn't give any degree of a shit how tumblr-pandering Star Vs is or isn't, I tried watching it and found that the characters were annoying, the plots were lazy and the humor was too forced to be funny. That's why I dislike this show.
>>79706324 >characters were annoying, the plots were lazy and the humor was too forced to be funny basically just reading off a pre-constructed list of "criticisms" that are completely subjective and dont mean anything, nor appreciate what actually separates a well animated and constructed cartoon like star, from a run of the mill stiffly animated fanfare like clarence/we bare bears/modern AT, etc.
>>79706268 You know why? Because I've never seen it. I came in here to see if it was good
>it's funny, because the posts shaming skeleton have stayed more on topic and are outlining their exact reasons for liking this show, while you seem to be just dismissing it as "mediocre", "bland", etc.
It's more funny that you're so triggered by criticism (80% of the people you addressed haven't even said anything terrible or sjw related about the show, including myself, but you're desperate to be a victim here). People are annoyed that you're strawmanning "I think this show is boring and not funny" into "Not enough interracial gay dickings for my tumblr taste." You are not staying on topic by bringing up irrelevant people, and that's what sjws are to this show, literally by your own words. Irrelevant.
>why is it any of those things? because the cast is too white? because star isnt from a post-apocalypse earth and the monsters she fights are all evil aliens?
Yeah, sure, that's why I clicked on a picture showing a blonde white girl and decided to come into this thread to find out if it was good enough to watch.
Dude, accept that some people aren't going to like it and just express why you think it's an awesome show. I didn't like that Puppycat show, and I can express why without bringing up a group of people I'm not a part of.
>>79686226 this song is perfect for Marco and Stars relationship
Marco's acceptance of Star and his character growth as a modern young male is great. Especially with the SJW mad relationship world playing out in the background and Marco trying to tune it all out. Marco has "feminine" traits that can give a wrong impression about him being an insecure pussy, because deep down he is capable of being a badass. But he first needs to be triggered, and in some instances learn how to cope with the world around him. Star acts as the trigger in part by subjecting him to emasculating treatment, while also pushing and testing him to go further, and Marco doe change as a result of Stars feedback. But she is still skilled in subtle manipulation.
But ultimately I find it telling that Marco's first criticism of Toffee was that he was boring after being called a disappointment. That is telling of what happened after the precious cinnamon roll hung out with Star too much, He does not want to go back to his old boring life before Star, and she helped him realize this.
>>79706436 first, if you need a Bhutanese Caricature Exchange Bulletin full of facetious posting to convince you whether or not to watch a cartoon, you're an idiot through and through.
second, you seem to be talking more about this SJW thing than I am. ive at least tried to steer the conversation into why I like Star and believe it to be more than just a mediocre cartoon, but you conveniently ignored that part of my post. nice work kiddo.
>>79706485 bee and puppycat is not a relevant cartoon. it was a series of shorts that premiered on a youtube channel and featured a character that got gradually fatter and uglier thanks to tumblr input. i fail to see what relevance it has to this discussion, other than its fat mexicunt creator is connected to the group of pen ward's cancerous groupies that went on to create detestable /co/ material such as Steven Universe.
