Good evening owls of /co/,
We Threeboot now!
So my hopes are up that it's OG Bolts in that teaser
don't fuck with me, Marvel
DON'T EVEN SAY THAT, DAVE
it'll be him or Tom Taylor or something
what was good today?
I deserve a beer, right?
I'm just saying.
This is EXACTLY the type of title they would give him.
Taylor's a good guess too.
Love Shack it is.
I honestly cannot look at the premise of Threeboot and not think of Grunge, Punk, and Death Metal. It's like all the most 90s teen rebel music is all over this thing. Alright, let's do this.
I did not like Hellcat because it's still just too juvenile for me, and references are not a substitute for written jokes
Poison Ivy was good, though it triggered some people here.
And Simone is killing it on Clean Room.
I wish she could bring that quality to her capeshit.
Martian Manhunter is still delightful. I love Mr Biscuits.
And what's weird is the solicit for Robin: SOB for April was this months issue?
can someone sum up Ivy for me?
I am behind on MM and am gonna have to read it from the top
>So my hopes are up that it's OG Bolts in that teaser
If those aren't the OG Bolts, this book will get dropped faster than a piece of dwarf star matter on Jupiter.
Hey, that armored woman on the bottom of the page. Is that Boodika? Nice.
I can see the band getting back together if the Avengers/SHIELD are being shitty
The idea of Zemo getting a THIRD go at the Citizen V costume tickles me immensely.
I think it's Jeanne d'Arc
I can totally see how some people wouldn't like it. but like there are some jokes, like the "early 00s" leggings I thought worked.
not the people in the /co/ threads because fuck those guys and their bizarre fixation
not bad. i'm too pleb to know what optimistic punk is but that's 3boot imo
no, that was pretty good, but the I QUIP YOU SO HARD and the heart emojis, which she was very proud of on twitter, I needed a drink
Ivy has a job doing science stuff. She takes a really old plant back to her science job. Goes drinking with Harley, has a fight with her. Next morning her science plants are super big, she goes to talk to her co worker, co worker is dead. It was a slow start.
/co/ is triggered because her science boss is sexist and sexist professors don't exist anymore.
hello Dirk, do you get to be team slut again this go-around?
Also I feel the pain here, but...are u n00b to comics?
I can tell you that a "The Falcon" book would sell less/get cancelled faster than FalCap.
>sexist professors don't exist anymore
>can someone sum up Ivy for me?
Ivy gets a job working with plants thanks to a very nice woman who also works there. She brings back a very old plant to the job. Harley comes to visit and they go talk about how Ivy has been spending more time at her job, then beat up some troublemakers at the bar or something. Ivy goes back home and talks to her plants. Then the last couple pages are her freaking out over one of the plants at her job growing too much without her help, and then she discovers the dead body of the nice woman she worked with.
/co/ got triggered by Harley appearing and one of the old scientists there being sexist.
deliberate changing up of past relationships: go
>I did not like Hellcat because it's still just too juvenile for me, and references are not a substitute for written jokes
Agree wholeheartedly about references. "HEY, RECOGNIZE THIS?" is not a joke.
But I didn't read Hellcat because I'm not interested in wacky humor shit.
>I think it's Jeanne d'Arc
I know it's common to depict Joanie as a badass lady knight, but she likely never actually saw combat.
I am honestly not sure.
Too stubborn to actually look at what's coming out now? Dammit, you're making me go and look. (not dammit, thanks, I love reading reactions)
Would it sell less than FalCap will co-existing with SteveCap, though?
I don't know. There ought to be a creative team big enough to make Falcon sell, but they've totally failed in every attempt to make Rhodey work.
>/co/ is triggered because her science boss is sexist and sexist professors don't exist anymore.
/co/ can eat a dick. If a writer wants to address an issue, that's their right. Goodness knows I wish Wondy books were still about that kind of stuff. I mean, I like adventures as much as anybody, but Diana's pretty strongly attached to the idea of bringing up talking points, and the lack of(or limp-wristed attempts at it) are why the character has stagnated for so long.
>Batgirl #47 Not bad. I quite like the Spoiler/Bluebird cameo (they should really get their own book, but of course that ain't gonna happen under the DC of 2016).
Yeah, I remember when our department misogynist retired. One senior prof gave him the most amazingly backhanded sendoff speech I've ever heard. It was glorious.
I am also behind on Smugnestro
This is true, about Joanie
comicosity guy had some opinions on Steve as Cap again
I cannot think of a single big two author I'd want tackling race issues in America in a big two book
Poison Ivy was pretty good. I was annoyed at the Harley cameo, but at least here it was somewhat validated.
Spencer is taking unnecessary flak for writing the Steve book when he's expressed several times he's dedicated to keeping FalCap going too. Poor guy.
>mfw no Warp! poster in the clubhouse
The updated Bolts poster now clearly has Karla and a Mach of uncertain number on it
No, among a certain kind of twitter reader, DC will be 'grimdark' as long as they publish Batman, which means forever.
My eyes are rolling.
>I didn't think Earthlings had native powers.
....... Jo, I'm going to pretend that you're joking. Or else this future has some fucked up implications.
>Yeah, I remember when our department misogynist retired. One senior prof gave him the most amazingly backhanded sendoff speech I've ever heard. It was glorious.
Sounds like it. You'd think people would keep their unsavory views to themselves while at work, but no.
I'm older than you, probably :D
but yeah. "Eat it, grandpa" is tiresome fast.
Or, y'know, Batgirl's current tone
which is apparently STILL too grim and dark??? if they're putting Steph and Harper IN THE BOOK why would a spinoff be out of the question? these fucking people
Here's the Wheeler thread where Spencer shows up:
ON THE ONE HAND, I get some Schadenfreude from all the "marvel is so perfect~" love they got when FalCap etc. were announced; on the other, there's sales and comics history and practicality here, and Spencer's not half-assing it.
>I'm older than you, probably :D
I'm older than you smilie face.
I reserve all rights to wave my cane at your fancy-pants modern comics, made with computerboxes and such.
>ON THE ONE HAND, I get some Schadenfreude from all the "marvel is so perfect~" love they got when FalCap etc. were announced;
I can't wait for dude Thor to be the main Thor again
>Andrew Wheeler @Wheeler 9h9 hours ago
>It's great that Marvel is listening to its writers, but Marvel still makes the call, and is it listening to its audience? It's hard to see.
Someone posted the numbers on FalCap. Not barnburning. Not good at all, in fact. So unless it's Huge In Trade And Digital Both...
>I most want is for there to be just one Captain America, and it's Sam, undiluted. Is that where we'll be, six months in?
How did Wheeler ever for one second think SamCap could be permanent?
I know a lot of female fans who want Thor to be Thor again because they're reading for Thor.
And maybe Loki.
This is so heavy-handed I just staggered
Nooberei? Wishful thinking?
I also saw some people fussing that Marvel isn't fully committed to Miles as Spider-Man because there are still two Peter books. PEOPLE. Marvel likes MONEY.
Dauterman? He's really good. Who knew that gay guys draw quality men?
Did it already.
>Civil War 2
...... I'm trying to decide if I want Karla to be anywhere near that piece of shit or not. Now that the new T-Bolts has been announced and she's apparently in it.
I mean, it'd be nice to see her taunting Carol, but she'd be in Civil War 2, obligating something stupid to happen to her.
lol, I hope they like nothing, then
I felt that was probably more of a Slott sense of humor joke.
Ah here it is
>Seb Patrick @sebpatrick 9h9 hours ago
@Wheeler "Miles Morales is the real Spider-Man!"
*puts out three comics starring Peter Parker first*
>I also saw some people fussing that Marvel isn't fully committed to Miles as Spider-Man because there are still two Peter books. PEOPLE. Marvel likes MONEY.
I tend to agree with Cheryl Lynn's stance linked upwards. Arguing that Marvel/DC need to do away with their popular characters and fully commit to progressive replacements is pointless. Trying to build up Falcon as Falcon is at least not doomed to be overturned in six months.
just poking around the CBR thread
that one guy is really upset that Edge of Oblivion features Guy more than John even though nobody ever said it was going to be John centric and it's not called Green Lantern John Stewart & Pals
This is what concerns me. It just doesn't seem like John Stewart is a character that is specifically being primed for film. With Wonder Woman, I can see DC trying. She's gotten numerous digital first comics recently, she's got her own book still, and she's playing a big role in Justice League. With Cyborg, I see them trying. I saw them trying with Aquaman when they put Johns on the book and so on, and attempted to expand his universe with that Dan Jurgens title that flopped. It didn't work out, but I saw them try something. With John Stewart? Heck, he's a background character in a Guy Gardner book. His own books keep getting mysteriously cancelled. This doesn't look like they're trying. Will this be John's fate on film, too? To asexually linger in the background while some white Green Lantern(s) does stuff?
man his one Dick variant was sexy
I really don't know why anybody would ever expect Marvel to get rid of Peter Parker as Spider-man, or sideline him in favor of Miles
he's literally like the world's most marketable superhero, why would they EVER get rid of him
I'm still impressed Stephen Wacker could lie so much about that with a straight face
I never even saw them say they were pushing Miles as the real Spider-Man. They should save up their bitching for when Jane Thor gets taken to the curb, they really did make unkeepable promises there.
that reminds me to go hunting for more Thunderstrike
I was trying to explain fanon Jason Todd to someone today
it didn't work
Dreamy what hot mess are you wearing
also the cape does not become Jan
>LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #1
>One of the most anticipated returns of the year...
>tfw the Legion used to be the hottest shit
Geoff, please. Put them in Legends of Tomorrow. Somebody give us SOMETHING.
>so how about that last page of titans
Who cares about Titans when you have ASSHOLE BATMAN and DICK/BABS.
Also have some shitty Jason too because who cares about Dick and Jason's past interactions?
yeah and then people act surprised every single time when it doesn't last
although I still see even the people who allegedly swore off Marvel because of one thing or another chomping at the bit to pick up anything they perceive as progressive
Isn't there supposed to be a nod towards them in LOT? I'm guessing Rip might have a flight ring laying around or something
and they're in the next lego JL movie
This is...36 issues, I think? Consider a snappy pace to be 3-4 a day, and I'm going out of town so I might miss a few days, so probably time
NT is gonna be one fucking keikaku ride
I think Feminist Jason Todd can all be traced back to one person. The same person who started Girl Wonder and the Stephanie Brown is the most important female representation in comics movement.
i remember people use to have threads with old solicits and it was just BRUTAL
he's confirmed references but who knows what and where. LOT is gonna be fucking packed tho
Oof. Look, I get what you're doing with the cloud motif, but there are better ways to implement it.
Jan seems to be going for a regal thing, but he's too much of a stoner for that.
LOOKIN' KINDA VRIL THERE
Right, Jan's a total hippie
There's an insufferable crowd on Twitter who are like that about Lois Lane, and hate Supergirl TV with a passion because Cat Grant makes Lois jokes
A lot of people had them back then.
Roy Harper also at one around this time period.
Between that, this original purple Arsenal outfit, his 90s Titans outfit, and his New 52 white trash design, Roy doesn't get good outfits/designs very often.
Yeah, the LEGO movie is indeed something at least. And the reference has to be in either LOT or Flash. Oh, the Jenni-fags would cream themselves if she sudden;y showed up to say hi to Uncle Barry.
It's pretty cool.
Of course they're too stupid and laser focused to realize Cat is supposed to be catty and mean and you're not supposed to agree with everything she says.
I love when people think the Supergirl/woman argument in the pilot is supposed to gospel, too.
>this original purple Arsenal outfit
Seriously look at this shit
just read the whole feed for the past day or two
also by the Lois Lane novel writer:
I think it's hilarious that a dinosaur like Waid wrote that. If this was the work of some 20-something indy darling doing their first Big Two work I'd buy it, but this is Mark fucking Waid, the same man who wrote Kingdom Come. Shit's hilarious.
someone get Brainy a salt cellar, he needs one to hold it all
oh for fuck's sake
One character who IS frequently petty and mean occasionally make a crack at Lois isn't insulting her and then rubbing salt in the wound, it's not like a bunch of other characters are agreeing with Cat going "yeah Lois sucks she's awful!"
I stopped dreaming for a while once
it was NOT FUN
I think I said this already, but I might be late/short tomorrow night/for a few days.
Pfft! Stay mad, Brainy.
Y'know, at least this time there's an actual reason someone dislikes Nura.
>And now they've made Lucy look terrible too.
Lucy is terrible
I said I was worried that they were taking Jimmy into a weird direction with who they cast and the way they were talking about the character in casting calls.
All of this of course having been proven downright wrong since then, but Busiek thought I had more racist undertones
It's kind of annoying that you can't have, say, women who don't like specific other women without this being a betrayal of feminism
"all women are jealous catty bitches who don't know what friendship is" is a shitty fucking stereotype, but "all women are sisters and they are all BFFs!" is just as bad
I will take a Cat who likes Kara but is dismissive and jealous of Lois over a Cat who unconditionally loves and supports all other women
Right, two extremes, both suck. And shock, if you have more than one woman, you can have more than one POV shown
This is why L.E.G.I.O.N. was so good, in part
>It's kind of annoying that you can't have, say, women who don't like specific other women without this being a betrayal of feminism
>Everything's a betrayal of feminism to someone.
You two. Stop listening to the rambling words of radicals. Stop it.
It's funny reading an old interview of his in Legion Outpost, because as far as I can tell Giffen's Karate Kid murder spree was caused by him just thinking a martial artist with a high collar was stupid. I hate to see what he'd think of Iron Fist.
Suddenly I feel like I'm being pandered to. I kinda like it.
>Right, two extremes, both suck. And shock, if you have more than one woman, you can have more than one POV shown
I have no idea why anyone things women are some kind of hivemind. But speaking from personal experience, that preconception is bullshit.
>as far as I can tell Giffen's Karate Kid murder spree was caused by him just thinking a martial artist with a high collar was stupid
Yeah? And a supermodel moonlighting as a superhero is stupid, because comic books are fucking stupid.
I respect Giffen as a writer, but frankly, he needs to fucking deal with it.
I hope David Walker's PM/IF is good, but he's 100% cruising towards being "that black guy who writes black guys"
No comment on the quality of his writing, just that I hope he avoids the pigeonhole
Pffft! Tasmia, pls.
The theme of teen rebellion is a but heavy handed and silly, but the characterization has been nice so far. Waid must've actually done some research.
He's just a huge Legion fanboy who knows what is good in life
Waid has been reading the Legion since he was just a weeny little thing. And he was an editor on this title, remember? You cannot argue with his power levels, even if you don't always like the results.
(skipping solicits page until the end)
Brainy's green costume makes him look mostly naked. Not sure if that's a complaint.
He's still so butthurt about getting kicked off the book. I get it but I roll my eyes at the same time.
These are longer issues, which slows us down a bit
Apparently the solicits were wrong yesterday?
Lobdell isn't writing any Titans Hunt.
So that's one less thing to not complain about.
>starring three of DC's most powerful teams JLA, JSA, and Teen Titans
Haha I remember when JSA was still relevant
and I think Teen Titans were still being written by Johns at this time?
speaking of solicits, THE FIX is finally close to hitting reality
>tfw late as fuck yet again
>also Ivy seemed to make people really mad
From what I could tell that was just one guy trying too hard to bait people. Though I guess that's almost every thread here these days.
like how the March solicit for Omega Men used that splash page of Kyle and Kalista from #7
speaking of Omega Men 11 sounds pretty cool but I will be disappointed if Kyle ends up with god hax powers again
But Bruce is just coming back and multiple Batmen are so five years ago.
Relatedly, I'm so glad that solicit situation got cleared up before that Titans Hunt issue with Nightwing. I would have flipped my shit.
This Cos is just...so hard for my visual brain to say YES IT'S COS
damn, this is like the most moe Cham ever
clearly the only solution to this is a big ol' Legion orgy
Shall we leave it here tonight, owls?
Thanks for reading; will try to be on tomorrow as normal, and may more Bolts information be good information.
Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.
Not sure what to make of Threeboot so far. It's not really bad or anything, just odd.
Huh. This issue came out at the same time as the Wondy/Flash crossover. That was good stuff.
Thanks as always OP.
I've read this all already and I think it's mostly good, but yeah there's no real surprise why they go ahead and let Johns do the Retroboot. It's just too different.
I actually don't hate Supergirl at all I just think she was a poor fit for the book and the story suffered heavily from focusing almost entirely on her from her introduction onward.
I like her as a character, she just already had her own book. No need to overshadow the Legion.
Supergirl had her own book at the time? Oh, you mean Kara Whore-el had her own book. Yeah, she did, but Legion was the only book with Supergirl at the time.
The T-Bolts eventually turned into the Suicide Squad
I'm curious what type of TBolts we'll get
Bad guys pretending to be good
Hero hunters for the Gov
or super villain reform program
>Dream Girl is dumb. Her power is more or less hit or miss in value (though it is always accurate) and I'm sure her main service to the Legion is in her quarters after dark. She needs constant reassurance of her value, and since her Legion career has been less than stellar, the only way to get psychologically stroked is to allow herself to be physically stroked. By anybody. She has a need for love, adoration and reinforcement of her narcissistic self-image. Star Boy is either too dumb to realize this, or has resigned himself to it. His most fervent wish is to get her off to some godforsaken observatory somewhere, alone. Forever.
