So I just started reading Homestuck. Does it get any better?
No, but if you keep reading 100s of pages you'll get "Stockholm syndromed" into liking it.
>If I wasted so much time on this crap, it must be good!
Alternatively you can play Undertale for the same shitty writing and lack-of-effort art.
Honestly, it gets better
but then it gets worse after a long while
You'll be pulled in by the creative world building a special powers the kids will have
and if you're an autist, you'll love the trolls
but even that isn't enough to make the author's writing good
It gets better, slowly at first but then it accellerates getting more and more and more fantastic until it plateaus at the start of act 6, then when you near the most recent part it starts to go downhill
man, I miss enjoying homestuck. It meant so much to me for four years of my life. It was a defining trait of me and changed the direction of my life permanently and now I just don't care anymore.
I care that I don't care, but homestuck doesn't seem as amazing to me as it used to. I'm not even looking forward to hiveswap because I know it's never going to come out
Here's a crude chart I bullshit up for you that is sourced from my fleeting memories of my first read through
have fun guy
Maybe. It definitely changes a lot, over and over. Understand that the comic is one long experiment where the author tries out different ways of fucking around with his audience. The earlier parts were run interactively like one of those forum quests. He abandoned that relatively early on but still kept his style of taking ideas from the fans and twisting them to his own ends. Over time the demographic he was writing for changed from what it originally was and then maybe he gazed too long into the abyss.
No. Sleuth is long and garbage and unfunny just as Homestuck The Final Boss is almost 50% of the whole story.
One joke every 80 pages. Thousands of pages. Pointless.
Homestuck is just that X 10.
Literally LITERALLY every single human being you will find calling Problem Sleuth "short" and "concise" are people who read Homestuck. No other sane person would call that shit "short".
>every single human being you will find calling Problem Sleuth "short" and "concise" are people who read Homestuck
> garbage and unfunny just as Homestuck
That's subjective, dont speak for everyone. MSPA humor is made of gags and brick jokes, PS does it well.
It gets good, then it gets ok, then it turns in to dogshit with the occasional good moment. The best part of the entire thing was enjoying the wild ride with the fandom, while it was still good and active. I wouldn't bother drudging through it anymore.
This is coming from somebody who has over 2GB of fanart still floating about on my computer.
First of all, if you are here because of the hype: The fandom is horrifying, half of the fanbase skipped integral parts, only to latch on to shipping. This might have created a feeling that it's a completely characterdriven comic, which i false.
The coolest part for me were the timetravel shenanigans, understanding the origin of characters and of course the metastory.
To be honest the non-linear, sometimes downright random build up made looking through this harder than it should be. Sometimes it feels like a 4-year old just mashes storythreads together like hotwheel cars and half way through remembers that there's a Peanut Butter sandwhich under his bed he left there last week, so he throws all the toys out of the window and crawls under his bed only to find his sister's diary there and attempts to read from it only to remember he can't read yet. You feel this metaphor went out of hand? This is how reading Homestuck feels like, I am not shitting you, unlike our metaphorical 4-year old, who will shit himself in kindergarten next week in the most embarrasing moment of his young life.
It has random rambling with mild amusement value, sudden switch of characters, but an amazing frame- and metastory.
In the beginning there is no particular part that makes you think "LOL THIS SHIT IS FUNiES I GOTTA MAKE A YOUTUBE POOP OF THIS ON MY VINE"
It's subtle, snarky, sometimes absurd interactions buried in between relatively normal convos. It recreates the feeling of chatting with a witty friend, who feels a tad smarter than you but genuinely wants to crack a joke. It creates a fun, snarky background radiation to the first half. Picking up all the puzzle pieces on the way is half of the fun.
I like that part of your chart where you apparently traveled back in time in the middle of act 5, act 1 only to enjoy it less the second time around. I don't even think your graph is invalid, I just think this timetravelshit is a legit scenario with this comic.
>By now, we've observed patterns for each character. Jade is the one who breaks many of them. We were to expect she would have another irritating modus. Instead she has all these fun and silly ones based on games. Because she is FUN AND SILLY. This helps broadcast that fact to readers. It's amazing how much I'm teaching you about characterization so far.
Im hungry Andrew
Poor Jade was designed to be unlikable. Her curse was that her unlikability even affected the author, thus becoming a secondary background character.
One of the problems of this comic is how it highlights Dave's issues but it completely ignores Jade's.
I just cracked the homestuck code
Thief of Light - Steals the spotlight and narrative
Heir of Breath - Fucks your mom and gf
Knight of Time - Unending lust to fuck any lifeform
Witch of Space - Fills some space up on the ending flash
Seer of Light - Doesn't see shit
Knight of Blood - Cuckolding, channels the energies of deities like Finn and Mordecai to guide his way into despair and love depression
Sylph of Space - Background Prop
Thief of Life - Makes you realize you wasted three years of your life for reading this shitty comic
Kanaya created our universe, killed eridan, guided Jade through creating the Genesis Frog, and it's blatantly obvious that by the end of the comic she's going to repair reality itself
So the person who made that "Lullaby for Gods" animation a few years ago has been appointed the animation director for Hiveswap recently.
start at act 5 and the trolls so you can start shipping immediately
holy shit that's really cool
or remember that they were friends?
goddamn, the clouns an alright guy
I wish I could create something like homestuck. Honestly, even though hussie fucked it up in the end, the dedication and thought that went into this is something I don't think I'll ever be able to replicate, and I don't think I'll ever have people feel about my stories the way I did about HS
>even though hussie fucked it up in the end
We still have a hundred or so pages and thirty minutes of animation to go, I'm personally refraining from any final judgement until then.
the music team did a fantastic job too. My dream is that if I ever get to make a game, movie or show I'd want Malcolm Brown doing the music, since I've listened to ever one of his songs on repeat several times except for pumpkin party
However, HS gave me high standards for in-universe mythology, time travel, plot twists, the mythologization of modern cultural elements, etc. It altered my life permanently, and even though it's no longer a big part of my life I'm still coasting off the direction it sent me in
homestuck is in general about self-actualization and the fight against a deterministic universe. It's the idea that life gives us a path to follow and a role to play. How rejecting circumstance is a part of growing up but so is coming to accept your own nature and finding and fulfilling the person you are most meant to be.
Correct me if i'm wrong, that sounds suspiciously like you're shitting on Kanaya. Which you wouldn't, because that would be HERESY!
>a lame weenie
>now also in faggot flavor
I mean, along with other factors such as reading the comic serially vs. archivally, it has always been an experimental piece, by its nature there's going to be some really high points mixed in with some low ones. And even then it's all subjective, some of it due to the fact that all the connecting context hasn't been fully revealed yet.
how can yo unot like hussnasty
hussie's actual style is incredible
Anyone remember when Hussie was too much of a pussy to call a single character, in a single instance, Caucasian? That was probably when the comic died for me. It was in SJW hands at that point.
>That was probably when the comic died for me
So you're just a huge pussy too
The comic died when we never got to see the kids finish their quests
the quests turned into a huge puzzle that lead to progress instead of having them focus on becoming stronger by facing pitfalls designed to make them grow as characters
Except he only went back on the panel because of the backlash from teenage girls.
I was referring to a reply from his Formspring.
The "Caucasian" joke was a response to the people in the fandom arguing about their race.
You say that as if Video games and superpowered character comics aren't extremely popular
this is what I meant when I said creative worldbuilding
way to summarize literally nothing, faggot
Why the fuck do the Trolls exist?
Because Rose is such a huge bitch that no one should deal with her bullshit?
Yeah, despite him saying the kids were aracial, he went ahead and defined trickster jane as being Caucasian. Hussie made the solid, concrete decision to try and do that in all seriousness. The fandom FREAKED OUT and he changed it to Peachy like pic related. He pussied out, plain and simple. Pussying out of things is fine, but when you can't even submit a web comic page without cracking, you have issues.
>Trusting Andrew "Hiveswap's development is going well" Hussie
That wasn't happening nearly as much as people shitting on him for defining their races
I can think of two notable examples where people weren't just saying "you are CANONICALLY WRONG about race" to people who insisted on racebending the characters
Did you even read that? It says quite clearly that he didn't want to make people who thought of them differently to feel bad.
Admonishing those who wish to maintain non-white headcanons for characters. Or those disappointed to see Trickster Jane with skintone. Or anyone really. There was not any coherent ‘TAKE THAT’ going on here.
At least that was not the intent. I can see how it would appear that is what I wished to communicate, but it is not. If that is an interpretation that will commonly persist I’d rather just ditch the joke. Or at least tone it way down, which I did.
Pure fucking backpeddling. Only later on does he fluff it with some "But it's to stop HARASSMENT" so he doesn't sound like such a wimp in the face of teenage girls.
Yes I have.
>But actually what motivates me more to revise it is noticing more than a few unsavory individuals using it as justification to harass POCs or anyone who, reasonably, wanted to voice their concerns. On reflection I’d rather not have my decisions serve as fodder for the arguments of such people. They don’t speak for me.
Minorities only works if you're talking about american non-whites
Other places in the world, non-whites may be the majority
also, minorities is harder to type than POC, why bother typing fourlegged backstructured sitting contraption when you can just say chair
>Literally nobody thinks Hussie is going to write a good ending
They're all like "Hussie is just pulling our legs with this Davekat stuff, he's gonna revert and destroy all the horrible stuff he did!"
Like haha, no.
>Enjoy clicking on the next few pages of Dave and Karkat making out with each other while John fucks Roxy and Terezi in the background.
I will enjoy at least half of that scenario.
She's like to draw more Homestuck but the fandom has made her terrified of receiving death threats for drawing someone's nose too small. In the photoset that contained that DaveJade picture, she was actually afraid to include the JohnRoxy image because people might hate her for making them "white".
>tfw dropped it right after Descend
I still think this should have been in the calendar instead.
I think I can male peace with the fact that most of what I thought Homestuck was was really an illusion created by the music team and a few neat plot twists. That way the decline is less disappointing, since instead of getting worse Homestuck was always this bad but masked by a few strong elements.
It also has a lot to do with the fandom, even when hussie stopped taking suggestions officially he still used the fans as a soundboard for the rest of the comic (for better or worse)
plus, fans had, and I guess still have, a habit of filling in plotholes with elaborate theories, if it weren't for that the flaws in homestuck would feel a lot more severe
I will be disappointed if the last update doesn't come with a sticky and music on it. Mods could celebrate one less obnoxious fanbase to take care of.
Yeah really, Hussie only has his incompetence to blame for not developing her, despite her having a lot of issues that could have easily been worked with just as much as the Derse kids
Act 4 > Act 3 > Act 2 > Act 5 > Act 1 >>>>>>>HUGE FUCKING POWERGAP>>>>>>> Act 6
If you aren't at least somewhat interested by the time you get to [s] Jack: Ascend, then you might as well stop there. If you do like it, know that it does get worse later on. A lot worse.
>used to be iffy about Homestuck because people would shit on it with a passion
>now everyone is like "haha its literally the same garbage as Undertale only scrubs read it"
>Undertale was fucking phenomenal so now I want to read Homestuck
Undertale is better than Homestuck because it ends and doesn't go so long the author not only runs out of ideas but gains radically different opinions and spends the last part of the comic ranting about social justice issues.
Undertale and Homestuck is a good comparison, mostly because the creator made so much music for and was inspired by Homestuck. Here's the main difference: Undertale was a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours and Homestuck has been going on for seven years if you assume Hussie really will end on the date he has planned. A creative work stretched over that long of a period of time has all the problems you'd expect.
Apparently the Openbound Let's Read is taking so long because they're matching lip flaps with VA lines. They're releasing all 3 parts of Openbound and then canning the project indefinitely.
Lip flaps killed the Let's Read. How fucking depressing is that.
Hussie announces that he's scrapping Hiveswap, breaking up with Rachel, re-retconning A6A6I5 by sinking Davekat and making the art not shit, and working full-time on completing Homestuck.
>What will you do?
It... depends. Homestuck has some similar characters and humor to undertale, and both enjoy playing with video game conventions as well as the fourth wall and their mediums. On the flip side Undertale is concise, streamlined and well crafted, whereas homestuck is bloated, poorly put together, and runs out of steam about half way through. Still an enjoyable read, if only the for the early parts(if you can stomach the pacing) but I don't know that I'd recommend it for everyone. Read a bit. If you act 1's pacing doesn't turn you off immediately, then go a little further. If you're not hooked by act 3 or 4 then stop, because that's about the best it gets. Act 6 is a god damn train-wreck, but pieces of it are salvageable, so if you're very invested or just curious, then go all the way to the end.
>mfw when I dropped the namefagging and yet I'm still here
I just started the Let's Read about two weeks ago, I'm on act 6 now.
Summary: Its a wordy pile of shit that has gleaming jewels in it, but the jewels rely on stuff that happened during the shit so you can't just skip it.
I'm going to finish it only because I like Dave enough to do so, and a few others are aight too.
>because I like Dave enough to do so
You poor soul
What's your favorite Dave moment, anon?
He's hopelessly doomed forever, isn't he? ...the poor guy. But I think that's why I like him. I oddly find him really easy to relate to, despite being so much older than him..
I don't know, I like it all. The shades. The bad rap. The time travel deaths. Everything.
Honestly I'm just glad he laughs at the trolls at this point, because I hate most of them
I dont get what's going on in the last flash. Long haituses ruin this fucking comic. Is terezi just remembering a bunch of things that happened? Why are all the dead waking up and losing their pupils?
Too bad. Dave is gay with Karkat now, and also considers Bro abusive. He refuses to and hates time traveling or doing any sort of fighting anymore, and will go on a big rant about toxic masculinity.
>using spoilers for their actual intention
So... to what end? like why is that even being shown?
The main issue is im never sure what's happening due to some sort of time travel or narrative fuckery or when it's just a character thinking/visualizing shit.
No-one deserves a happy ending except for john anymore. It's almost like when you have a cast of fucking 20 characters and flip between them like a fighting game character select screen it's hard to hold on to any emotional investment. Like I dont even remember who Rose is or what she's into or cares about anymore. She's still "there" but who the fuck cares.
John seems to be the only person getting any sort of catharsis and it's just bread and butter delicious Campbell arc stuff for him anyway. He better wake up from a dream that he fell asleep at his computer playing a shitty video game and go for a picnic with his dad or something.
They're simplifying things with a pessimistic outlook. Just try to ignore them and form your own opinion when you get to that part. Personally, I don't think it's worth as much butthurt as they're giving and they are heavily exaggerating the levels of gheyyy
It's not that he's gay that ruined the character, it's that Dave falls into an introspective slump and never really gets out of it. He lacks basically any of the traits that made me like him as a character now and he just sits around and makes other people feel awkward or philosophize about his inadequacy and fears. Like, I get it, him and dirk, two sides of a coin, but the point that should make dave good is he overcomes all that shit, not succumbs to it, and it's WAY too late in the story to be pulling this sort of character arc shit if he's going to recover from it and become his old self tempered by new experiences.
Here's what he planned for us.
Davekat is endgame.
Karezi and other oldfag ships happen in the dreambubbles.
Everyone is happy and also no one gives a fucking shit about the story anymore.
I feel you, anon. Except for the never really gets out of it part simply because that's the point where we left off, he could spring back after getting that rant off his chest for all we know. Dave dropped his cool kid facade for once, and while it could have been handled better, I think it was bound to happen eventually. I'm with you and hoping that this rut doesn't continue forward though.
>Everyone is happy
Who the fuck is happy with that? Dreambubbles aren't just an awful consolation prize, there a way for him to not commit to anything, plus they're a horrible thing in the first place. Those people are doomed to remain in purgatory together, hooray.
The thing is he's dropped the facade before, too, and those were great character moments. This last, large extended bout is just a long-winded dime-show about how he hasnt really gotten over any of his shit.
dave's arc doesn't go the way you want, it stops being about all that time travel hero stuff and he becomes a soapbox for social issues that he really shouldnt give a shit about but does because he's hussies mouthpiece
yeah, and where you never grow, never learn, and are stuck there for literal billions of years. The dreambubbles are meant to be a complete and total hell for players who failed. Not a good prize.
>Tfw Davejade will never get the resolution it deserves
now that davesprite merged with nepeta its going to get shafted even further isnt it /co/
They didnt even have to be endgame, just fucking give them some closure instead of ignoring literally all their development together just to make dave super gay.
It hasn't been about time travel hero stuff for four years and he's not going on a rant about society as much as he's wondering how he shaped his self-identity based on the Earth society he grew up in. He's lived with trolls for four years while Earth is dead, so he's questioning shit
That may be true, but it doesn't make for a satisfying read. He never needed to "get over" his shit per se, but learn how to balance whatever was holding him up with being a helpful friend. And he's basically showing no signs of improving. Whatever, it's not my comic or anything, I just think it's shitty. Dave had enough little core/deep moments to justify his memery and massive personality/ego, so to strip all that away kind of just leaves an unfulfilling character to read about, especially when he was one of the heroic leads.
It was never meant to be a prize, nor a hell. It's a purgatory made by Horrorterrors to try and preserve memories of failed players. They cannot grow, physically, but as pre-rec Vriska's shown, they can still change as people since they have all the time in the void to do what ever.
I haven't seen so much whining about characters not acting the way people wanted, and people justifying the lack of fulfillment/character growth is a form of character growth in itself since Equius didn't refused to man up and just let Gamzee kill him because highblood.
>People defended Gamzee
>People were okay that Karkat moirail'd a murderer and gave reasons like "muh extinct troll race we need to hold together"
>Gamzee murders Karkat in the GO flash
Every fucking time. Feels good man.
stupid anon, REAL people don't have resolution, or closure, or satisfying endings
>mfw finally forgotten
>Jade will never rape the gay out of dave and karkat
>Jade will never make them both her love slaves
>Jade will never wear a skimpy dominatrix version of her god tier outfit while she does it
It hurts to live anon
I never minded johnkat because I knew hussie would never make it actually canon, anything hinting at it was mostly played for laughs
If only I knew he had much, much worse in store for us down the line..
Again, no, it's a rant about himself. Society factors in but Dave isn't ranting about a dead Earth society.
DAVE: yeah i know
DAVE: it frankly IS funny to say how gay something is sometimes and lets face it sometimes someone or something is just flat out REALLY fucking gay and theres no two ways about it
DAVE: its more like that through the preponderance of all that jokey shit is an underlying implication that its all lame stuff for pansies but not like us no were not lame and ha ha thats the joke
DAVE: which thrives on this like double-buried implication that the REAL COOL SHIT is founded on this absurd wanky ideal about masculinity which if you think about it is 1. dumb as fuck 2. the male adulation of masculinity to that extent TO BE HONEST is pretty fucking gay unto itself and 3. was always some totally impossible shit for us to live up to anyway
DAVE: i think all thats mixed up with the same phony ideals about heroism
DAVE: like living up to the storybook idea of what a hero to me feels almost interchangeable with living up to societys snapshot of what a hard manly dude should be
DAVE: i stopped pretending i could ever live up to either thing a while ago
DAVE: and mainly have spent time looking back on the sheer magnitude of all my "joking around"
DAVE: i used to lambaste fuckers left and right grinding them into the pavement over how gay they probably were and how much they were quite possibly jonesin to kiss some dudes or such
DAVE: and i dont really feel bad about it in the sense that it was jerky or like "insensitive" necessarily even though i guess it maybe was
DAVE: more that i feel like it was probably transparent
DAVE: a massive front of outrageous snark to disguise a lot of insecurity
DAVE: like a fuckin coverup
DAVE: as long as i kept clowning hard about it i didnt actually have to think about it or face my actual beliefs
I miss the days when the worst we had to worry about was Johnkat and 4chords
And then it got so much worse
so much fucking worse
Homestuck: The webcomic that ran so long, everyone has nostalgia goggles for Acts 4/5
the whole conversation is an anachronism. it's nonsensical to have your character complain about masculinity when they're trying to save reality
when did dave insult someone for their "gayness." are we supposed to look back at the tavros conversation solemnly
saving reality doesn't matter anymore bro, he just wants to relax and be gay. Saving things is a masculine construct
3 year taking dick has made Dave complacent with the current situation
There's nothing to be solemnly about, and Dave never insulted anyone for their gayness. He just made fun of people via implying they were gay. The context of their complaint about stereotypical masculinity was about his own outlook, not society at large because there is no Earth, there is no society besides other players, and there is hardly a reality to save. The only reason he brought it up is because John basically asked when Dave became gay.
I'm not trying to defend Hussie's writing or say this is my ship or any shit like that (I honestly wouldn't miss this whole part of the plot either), but just that Dave didn't launch into a rant about society for its own sake out of no where.
His name is Wayward Vagabond you pleb, and he is as straight as an arrow and holding out for his mail lady
You know what makes even more sense?
Remember that Problem Sleuth reader command "Hussie: Get sexually attracted to your readers"?
Hussie = Dave
Karkat = Readers
I blew your fucking minds.
I genuinely enjoyed it...until I didn't
John's dad had just been killedaround the time I just stopped giving a shit.
There was no DROPPED moment, I just stopped feeling compelled to continue.
Its weird how most fanadventures dont match the MSPA style, like if only hussie had the way to do it.
The MSPA artstyle is simple looking, but Hussie had actual art talent.
Is this what turned Dave and Karkat gay? Lack of Terezi licks?
I hate how this felt like an implication that people shipped Karezi because they "had" to. Some goes for the characters in the comic. Like did Terezi really think she /had/ to be with him? Sure, she was crushing on him hardcore at that moment, but that didn't fuck her up. Killing Vriska did. She didn't have some complex where she felt like she /needed/ anyone (except Vriska). It should've said, "you don't need her" really if anything (even though i'd argue they are a great pair, Terezi doesn't need anyone to be honest).
It's like Hussie wanted to be progressive and show that Terezi is a strong independent women who needs no man. And like, duh. She has always been one of the strongest fucking characters. That was always obvious, and it was never like she was overshadowed by the guys or reduced to a prize (as much as we joke about the Terezibowl here). So Karezi and arguable Daverezi didn't need to be shut down in such a way that's like the author saying, "Fuck you for shipping them."
>Implying that's a a bad thing
Like anon said, anyone that says they wouldn't bang Vriska is a god damn liar
hussie was just looking for ways to bring his "this will be gayer than the end of Legend of Korra" tweet to fruition and he did it in the most hamfisted way possible and pretended it was clever because lol self-referential retcon
It hasn't felt good to be a Daverezi shipper in years ;_;
"You don't need him" is a trope that's used to pull someone away from a relationship that they are trapped in or where they are whipped or abused or at least /something/ substantially negative. This was like shooting a butterfly with an elephant gun. Overkill.
I bet I am the only one who never liked Karezi.
Karkat would blackrom her.
Or Vriska has some kind of shitty wish-fulfillment for implying that.
You just understood by now that Hussie is doing his damnedest to try and make people stop shipping that stuff while ignoring it and shoving gay shit around in the most hamfisted way possible?
And worse, it implies that GO!Terezi suddenly thought her life would be better without him? Where the fuck did that come from? That doesn't make any sense.
>stupid anon, REAL people don't have resolution, or closure, or satisfying endings
>YFW Hussie is leaving everything open as a fallback option
>YFW the moment he needs money, Hussie announces a Homestuck sequel
this is pretty accurate.
last chance of hope I had was Caliborn's masterpiece, and the Lil' Cal recap.
It honestly made for a good ending to just quit it right there. We've seen the rise and fall of a tyrant who always wins, and the entire story of the rubes he manipulated, mostly by accident, into doing it. Its a message of intevitability, one of the main themes of the work, and for the most part, ties everything together. Sure, its not a necessarily "happy" note, at least form the kids point of view, but if you look at LE's implied job as grim reaper of ghosts, its the ending of balance, of keeping rampant creation in check and the cycle going. Failed universes needed a predator to thin them out. He pursued his dreams, worked hard, begrudgingly learned the values of teamwork, and became that predator, despite his mental handicaps.
I call that a pretty satisfying conclusion.
You see anon, he once thought he was monogamous, but on the meteor he's had a lot to think. It's all fun and games, joking about banging all the sluts, but knowing that a real man dripping with machismo commits himself to one person; but what if that was just a fallacy of society and that all this monogamy was just a shield for Dave's insecurity?
>If something is popular then by definition it can not be creative, then it would be derivative
>I call that a pretty satisfying conclusion.
Problem is he's been portrayed as over harvesting by that point, either you'd need something to tone him down, retcon more than a bit of LE's behavior, or leave a gaping plot hole that the "grim reaper of dead universes"'s actions are not sustainable
kind of true, yeah. he's made his money, and his fandom has gone rampant and Xboxhueg, so no matter what he does, he'll anger about half of it.
I'd throw in the towel too if I was him.
> or leave a gaping plot hole that the "grim reaper of dead universes"'s actions are not sustainable
Jailbreak kinda ended the same way and was enjoyable. The epilogue is up to the reader's minds.
he spends most of his comic making fun of people who rant about social justice issues.
did the whole concept behind Kankri Vantas, heck ALL the beforus trolls go over your head?
Nepeta was making fun of deviantart tier fandom.
Calliope was making fun of Cosplay/Trollsona tier
Beforus trolls were making fun of the tumblr community that picked up his work and tried to say it preached all kinds of SJW values.
That's literally what I'm talking about. It wasn't out of the blue as much as it was prefacing the open door to the closet to John and basically telling John what's been on his mind a lot lately.
[S] Unite is the only time where I felt emotionally invested in the friendship between the Alpha kids. That scene where Dirk, Jane, and Roxy are all riding the hoverboard together is magical.
Basically, I was tricked into feeling something because of really catchy music.
Just like in Undertale.
and then he had to just go and... ruin the ride.
He wasn't ranting about toxic masculinity in a "society is broken we need change, a category of person is being oppressed" way. He only talked about it in the context of why he thought he couldn't be gay. I think the abusive bro shit was dumb too, but him thinking he wasn't raised in a healthy environment is hardly 'tumblr'
I didn't think HS fags would be so affected by the tumblr boogieman.
No, it was completely out of the blue. Dude hadn't seen any version of John in 3 years, and he knew John had just spent an unknown amount of time in a chaotic transuniversal whirlwind doing ultragod things and probably wanted to unwind for a moment, and the first thing he does is give the guy a massive lecture on THAT.
Dave, who abandoned everything that makes a hero heroic, really has no place to give a pedantic lecture about the subject to someone who was actually off doing heroic things.
the only thing i found wrong with undertale was the shitty "hurr were all friends" anime meme. other than that, the animation was alright, it was interesting and the music was god tier.
go fuck yourself you fucking pleb.
It blows my mind that there are people who still, to this day, unironically defend Hussie's writing. That might have been understandable a very long time ago, but the dream as been dead for years.
No, it was slightly interesting at first because it was new and different. But it's just overall bad storytelling, bad characters with decent art, it's a webcomic for early teens at best.
He and John were catching up. He was sharing the line of thinking he had in his mind a lot while they were apart that lead to him being with Karkat. It's not like he just gave that rant and left it at that, he was trying to make a point to John about what's going on with him not teach him a lesson on social issues just because lol soap box.
It's good until act 6. After that, there's several hundred pages of nothing but exposition, and the author does a bunch of retcons and rewrites the whole thing. After act 6, I'd recommend stopping.
Yes, those are the words he said. And the context of those words still revolve around himself. The point isn't a soapbox rant about society, the point he's making is why he was so far in the closet.
>stopped reading around the beginning of act 3
>Just got back into it and finished act 3
>get excited to keep reading because of how quick that was
>find out from this thread how fucking long act 6 is
What the absolute fuck.
>John wakes Jade up
>Without Vriska nearby Jade immediately resumes control of the session, except for transient godtiers like John and Roxy
>The others are now forced to do the shit they should've done because Jade will kill them otherwise and the strongest hero in the session won't bail them out this time
This is an unpopular opinion, I think, but I think that if Act 6 was heavily edited and less heablvy-handed it wouldn't be bad at all really. Not great, but good enough to not be cringeworthy at the thought.
>Implying even we ourselves remember the specifics of the convoluted-as-fuck plotline
>Implying even Hussie remembers the specifics of the convoluted-as-fuck plotline
We don't even talk about anything spoiler-related anyway. We just reminisce about how good old Homestuck was and how shit new Homestuck is.
If you are at the beginning, any spoilers would be meaningless anyway. If I say some shit like
HIC kills Araneaby the time you get anywhere close to the end you won't remember any of the shit you hear before.
>Rose whines about her quest, tries to leave
>Jade puts her back and destroys all Lolar's gates
>Dave whines about heroism
>Jade tries to kill the mayor again and kicks his ass again until he finally starts doing shit again
>Dirk tries to do something retarded
>Jade warps him back to the edge of the incipisphere again
>Terezi or Kanaya try something REALLY retarded
>Jade warps them into Derse's jail
>Resident demicatgods Jasprose and Davepeta try something moronic
>Jade just fucking kills them because she's a mad as fuck goddog who's been subject to emotional torment for the past 3 years and she's had enough
>Jade gets to have her reunion with John uninterrupted
Waking Jade up would solve everything.
I do what I want.
And I want to do Vriska.
That happened, she got bored with it and decided to have a new arc
In all seriousness, I do hope we get a full redemption arc for Vriska, or at least one that ends with her being simply a helpful bitch rather than a huge bitch
>I do what I want.
So does Vriska, and do you think she wants to do you?
except it was't relevant at the time.
having a feelings jam is the kind of thing you bring up in the epilogue after everybody and the universe has stopped being in mortal peril.
john had no reason to be told the entire history and reasoning for dave suddenly being okay with gayness, and deciding to embrace the rainbows within himself, when there's 40 other things to catch up on that might be more tactically imperative to get out
Let's not pretend like anyone in Homestuck has good taste.
Still has the most boys wanting her
Defeat the hostile Jacks, let the Condesce enter the universe, colonize a completely different, distant galaxy. It's an incredibly small price to pay to make all these useless fuckwits not utter shit.
not typically a good idea, either.
but the power dynamic is different, so you could work it out where you have them by the balls, which is why its a bad idea to stick your dick in crazy int he first place.
They win because that way Condy keeps all the kids and trolls as fuckpets and uses the matriorb and the ectobiology equipment to recreate both the human and troll races for her to rule over as the immortal god-empress
after all, in the word of hussie, "shes not big enough for the both of u-who am I kidding she's enormous"
Yes and it's already long since been played to death and back. Doing the same damn joke over and over and over and over doesn't make it funny again. Dave's canon job is to guard using time, but he doesn't do that anymore. Vriska took his stable time loop job, and John inherited his fixing the past job.
I've been long since sick of Vriska presence in the story at all. She was at least tolerable when she was imprisoned in the dream bubbles with no chance of revival.
but she wants the ball that will be the cherubs.
cherubs are integral part ot how universe is running, so if she messes that up by sticking trolls on it, all you've got is another doomed timeline.
>I hope at the end of homestuck, Dave will give John his sword and whisper something in his ear.
>Flashback to the sword temple on LoHaC 3 years ago
>the planet has just spawned
>there is no sword in the pedestal
>there is no hole in the pedestal
>there is a sword tele-fused with the pedestal
>Joke about child love in 2011
>Andrew Hussie is considered a comic genius
>Joke about child love in 2015
>Justin Roiland gets attacked by the Ministry of Love
I'd kinda be okay with that.
1, hussie used to be known for his offensive humor. go look at all the team special olympics stuff. or cheerfulbear play me.
2.people are way more easily butthurt now. Instant polarization is a part of the sideeffects of instant global interconnectedness. Tom Scott and CGP Grey did videos on it.
its only going to get worse from here, at least until it becomes like become like advertising or car alarms, so ubiquitous that nobody pays attention to them anymore. People can't get mad at things they don't bother to notice because its so common.
