So what's the deal with the Lion? Did Rose keep it a secret for some reason? Why? My cliche-senses tell me this is going to wind up being Rose reincarnated so she could keep an eye on Steven.
Is this technically the only male gem? Or is it half-gem like Steven?
Lion is just Rose's car, and Bismuth is the key.
Note the lack of a steering wheel.
Steven is LITERALLY Rose reincarnated.
Are you proposing a scenario in which she somehow split her own essence in two, one being Steven and the other being Lion? That needs explaining.
I think he's a corrupted/mutated version of something. Pink Diamond perhaps.
If he isn't that, and there's no gem hidden in the mane/hair somewhere, then he's some non-gem creature we can't speculate on. Some "elemental" or "spirit" or magical construct or something.
>Are you proposing a scenario in which she somehow split her own essence in two, one being Steven and the other being Lion? That needs explaining.
Actually yes. I have nothing to back it up, just what my intuition of cliches tells me. There's a pink lion that seems to know all of Rose's secrets that Pearl didn't know about because it's as much Rose as Steven is. I think it's dumb too, but might actually be what they go with.
>Pearl only thought she was Rose's right hand gem because she got to sit shotgun in the car all the time
>Pearl doesn't realize she only sat shotgun because she was the only one who could fit next to Rose
Bismuth always makes me yearn for the OC male CG versions, The Heavy Metals. Like gems but with metal. Bismuth "Biz", the muscle, black guy with swaggy pimp purple and green, Quicksilver (Mercury) the tech head and agile scout, then Tin or Copper, the leader/soldier/police.
If only I was a drawfag ;_;
My only guess is a familiar formed through the remains of Rose's energy or some magic thing
I do wish that Yellow Diamond makes her own after she sees Lion
Like a wolf, or a giraffe
>tfw the SU crew acknowledged The Heavy Metals and even liked the idea of male equivalent of gems being metals in the form of men but it will never be implemented in the show
>something like The Metal Men in SU
I like it, but it'll never happen
Amethyst is the same size. Her pecieved smaller statures is due to her short hair making her appear young, Greg being an unreliable narrator, and the animators steadfastly not standardizing character designs.
Home world is Forge
Instead of fusions, they have Alloys
The "diamonds" are Precious Metals, Gold, Silver, Platinum/Bronze
Also, copper/police force and tin/soldiers is a nice touch.
First, Greg's narration doesn't matter because they were watching a video tape in the flashback episode. Second, Amethyst was clearly tinier back then. She had a little mini drum set that was her height and barely makes it past Pearl's waist.
See point 3.
Amethyst was the same size. The Crew has stated that gems don't age. Vidalia also commented on it in show if you are one of those autists that doesn't consider anything said by the people who make the show. That is not to say you are such a person, I'm just covering my bases.
>Amethyst is the same size
No she clearly isn't
I never actively seek out creator input unless I think it's important, but I know Gems don't age. I just figured it's a gem reforming in whatever form they feel like thing: One day Amethyst decided to start manifesting her physical form more "grown" and has since met Vidalia.
If lion was literally Rose, you'd think he would give more of a shit in general, and especially about Steven. I don't think Rose can ever come back, it would ruin the dynamic if the show. It's all about Steven, Greg, and the gems all struggling without Rose but doing their best and trying to succeed as themselves outside of her shadow
They've been hitting pretty hard on the point that Steven is Rose, so it's doubtful that Lion is another incarnation of her.
The more curious aspect of Lion is the fact that he's basically an inter-dimensional gateway to both Rose's secret stash, as well as where ever the crew needs to go that doesn't have a warp pad nearby.
He's probably some sort of manifestation of Steven's power, or a guardian left by Rose to watch over the Desert Glass. He might be some sort of entity birthed by all the gems stored in the temple as a sort of gem tech output creature that handle basic functions like teleportation.
Come to think of it, that kind of puts the Desert Glass in to perspective. It's possible its another harvested Gem inserted in to an item to achieve some desired effect, much like Lapis was used to power a mirror that tells about gem history.
Problem is Gems tho Genderless never take on male form, Lion clearly takes on the Male form.
It'd be cool if we got another Alien race of "Males" so Steven would have some other kinds of role models.
Sucks for Steven and Connie.
I'm aware, I was just saying "if there a were male Gems, it definitely wouldn't be a pearl." They're designed specifically to be attractive servants, kinda like a pretty office secretary.
That said, the problem with
>it'd make no sense for there to be any. Gems have no concept of sex, and so multiple genders would be completely alien to them.
then there'd be no reason for them all to be feminine either. Even the most masculine of gems like Jasper still have breasts and wide hips, which are functionally pointless on a species without sexual reproduction. If gems are sexless and their physical forms are entirely cosmetic, then there's no reason for gems NOT to appear male if they want to. (Amethyst sometimes shapeshifts into a man.)
At the end of the day, you have to accept that there being no male gems is entirely artistic license in extremely "soft" science fiction. Rebecca Sugar likes magical girls so gems are girls. It also doesn't make sense that a species without sexual reproduction would ever be capable of evolving stuff like romantic feelings. Or that all the ayy lmaos speak English.
If he's able to go a full day while being "stretched" I'm sure with time he'll be strong enough to do that more permanently.
It's clear the Gems can Reshape themselves, just doing it on the fly like that is considered hard.
But while being the weakest of the gems he managed to keep up this form all day, that's some power.
Since we are at it, I'm reposting this for those who didn't see it
>If he's able to go a full day while being "stretched" I'm sure with time he'll be strong enough to do that more permanently.
That's not how it works. That was kind of the point of the episode. Steven has to let his aging happen naturally. You can't force puberty so don't try.
If Rose loved Earth so much, why didn't she marry it?
Well gendered pronouns are entirely an English convention. Not all languages have them. The Crystal Gems get a pass because they have always been called "she" by humans so that makes sense, they look like women so they go ahead and go by female pronouns because that's what humans assume they are. If Homeworld Gems didn't actually just speak English for plot convenience, then they probably wouldn't have gendered pronouns in their language. Actually their language would probably make implicit distinctions by class instead of gender.
But I doubt it will result in his human body puffing into dust like the others, that's my point.
I'm pretty sure if his human part dies or his gem breaks beyond repair then he can't come back.
True, but he seems to act more like it's his job than any outstanding love for Steven. He's more passionate for food than anything Steven is ever asking him to do. Just strikes me more as something tasked by Rose than Rose herself
If he ever gets poofed I assume his physical form won't retreat into his gem, kinda like a carcasse.
Then when he reforms his gem automatically creates his human form from scratch. That if Rose doesn't interfere with the process
I always figured Steven and Rose's existence worked like this.
Hey, this is actually a very interesting idea. She is dormant after all, so it's only logical to assume she'll come back when Steven's physical form gives up.
Also what the fuck is Greg doing?
>I'm pretty sure she gave herself up to create him.
It's been hammered in that Gems are their gems, though, and Rose's Gem still exists.
Rose have up her physical form for Steven to be born, but as a Gem she still exists and is where Steven gets his powers from.
On that note everyone besides Yellow Diamond should be a gem soon.
Lapis was imprisoned, she was just fighting for her freedom. Jasper just want's to destroy.
She looks quite a bit like Sakrua from Danganronpa
She was just following orders.
How long till Steven "Murdercock jr." Universe converts her?
But how in gods name would she create a physical form like that? He's clearly of a different makeup then the Gems so with 0 gem output why doesn't Rose just manifest herself at the same time.
I think it's highly unlikely she will be back.
>should be a gem soon.
I mean crystal gem.
Gems aren't mudercocks. Only full blodded humans have murdercocks.
>Lapis was imprisoned, she was just fighting for her freedom. Jasper just want's to destroy.
Lapis trapped Jasper in Malachite out of pure spite. She's not fighting for her freedom - She's willingly DENYING her own freedom to unleash her anger on Jasper. It's not necessary at all, given how powerful Lapis is when she has the ocean at her disposal.
Jasper isn't motivated by destruction. She's exactly like Peridot - Following the orders of Yellow Diamond. Heck, she's the only one of the HW Gems who DIDN'T try to kill Steven.
But this doesn't explain how he was created.
The Mirror was already there, there was no Steven for a gem to power before he was conceived.
It'd be pretty stupid if all the Home World Gems just convert because Steven is a good kid.
I have to assume Jasper is well liked on /co/ then?
Watch it's going to turn out that the creators of the gem race are a bunch of organic aliens that all look male and it's going to be used as a springboard for internet feminists to claim it's a metaphor for the patriarchy.
They should've used this outfit for Steven.
I still think lion is a part of rose. Some mass that she let go in order to make a tiny baby. It has shapeshifting powers, like steven himself, and took form of a lion the moment steven said "I want to be a lion" at the beginning of 'cat fingers'.
[spoilers]nothing in this show is coincidence[/spoilers]
We also never saw steven shapeshifting near lion. I bet as he changes anything on his own body, lion changes a bit too.
Genuine question, in one of the episodes, we saw Steven rapidly age to teen, adult, old man, and such, so where did that whole thing go for when it was Steven's recent birthday?
That's been something that's been bothering me, was there a reason he won't age himself just a little bit or to whatever his respective age is?
Alternatively it could be like how the God Emperor's soul was fragmented after the Horus Heresy.
Now Peridot just needs to install a text to speech device to Steven's navel.
calling it now; rose is gonna be a powered up form when steven needs it to defeat yellow diamond in combat when the final invasion begins
Counter call: Steven will TRY to call on Rose...
But Rose can only give him encouragement and insight because the Rose Quartz is his and he must learn to face the trials of life on his own.
I think lion is an early prototype hybrid of gem and organic life
you'd think Rose would be the one who not only wants to stop extermination of organic life, but also perpetuate gem life in a non-bellicous way
Calling it now: Steven is going to get poofed at the end of season 2. He will talk to Rose in his mind while poofed and then reform to help fight.
He will come back looking older like his birthday stretched form.
>tfw we will never have steven get poofed and Rose reform in his place.
>Tfw we will never have Rose working with the gems to "kill" herself again so that steven may live
>Calling it now: Steven is going to get poofed at the end of season 2. He will talk to Rose in his mind while poofed and then reform to help fight.
So we Harry Potter now?
Also, side note:
It was confirmed that Steven does not naturally age, he ages with his emotions. As he matures he will gradually begin to look more mature, but he will never die from old age.
Raise: That advice and encouragement will be suggesting that Steven is stronger than she was because he's a fusion of human and gem, which will lead Steven to fuse with Connie to defeat YD with sword and shield.
>season 2 finale
>Steven and Connie doing their sword shield shit
>Steven is poofed in battle
>Connie is immediately killed
I dream about Connie dying sometimes. I don't dislike her, but I think she'd be way more interesting if she was dead
>inb4 Connie dies so all of the superior ships can gain credibility.
I think he may be too organic to poof. Poofing works because gems are just light projections coming out of their gem stones. But Steven has flesh. He has to eat and sleep to maintain it, and he was growing like a regular child before he started to become stunted, and he has a set mass that gets floaty on the moon. I'm pretty sure he's got organs and a brain and all that stuff under his skin that people need to stay alive. Where would it all go if he poofed?
Have we ever seen him get hurt like even a papercut or bruise or something? I'm starting to wonder if he bleeds.
Connie is le poor indian/asian overachiever child that has a shit social life trope, I swear sometimes I think Im watching Bobby Hill and Conny Sousanomonn.
Wait a second both of their names are connie well shit.
the more interesting question is when jasper came too earth
why did lion disappear?
everyone needed help even garnet got poofed shit got real and this dude just dipped
well in the episode where garnet and amy fused he was hit by a rock and shown to have a red mark on his head, and when jasper headbutted him he got a black eye. so its safe to say he bleeds and can bruise.
also pretty sure a crew member said Steven can't poof, just die.
I think the closest we'll ever get to Steven seeing his mom again will have something to do with Rose's room. Remember that the whale in there suddenly spoke in Rose's voice towards the end of that episode, and its been shown to be capable of creating constructs of individuals based on what it can gather of them.
I think that a pretty decent Rose-construct is somewhere in that room, seeing as how it had as long as Rose lived there to gather data of her. In fact I think that Rose's room has a lot of answers to the show, and Steven just has to come to certain realizations of his own before he goes there to find them out.
For example, Greg losing his cool and trailing off about the gem war "It's not like I was there", sweating bullets and everything, seems really uncharacteristic of him. I think that Rose used the room to show Greg what she was involved in, and that at some point Steven will use it to show him and us, the viewer, exactly what the war was like without the gems sugarcoating/refusing to talk about it.
Also think it's highly likely that more will be revealed about Lion and what's in his mane either through the room directly, or something in the room tipping Steven off to it.
Lion knew that if he came in contact with a mighty maned beast like himself, he would not be able to control his primal urges.
Steven would be traumatized at such a sight, so Lion wisely held back.
There were probably other Rose Quartzes, but they were probably destroyed after the rebellion. You know, to make an example and to erase her from history.
That or Rose Quartz is part of Pink diamond, or some other conspiracy theory.
I really like '' dance of swords'' and I'm super obsessed with Steven Universe but it doesn't matter that I' m a girl I don't care what anyone says about it I will always love Steven Universe my sister is always saying it's bad but I don't care what ppl think Steven Universe is my life it is the only thing getting me thru it right now <:( my mom wont buy me the new iphone pearl is the best
t. average SU fan
Thought for a second that there was a second Lapis leak
How long will the hiatus be anyway? Did they ever say anything about it again?
I think I should just drop this show and pick it up in three years again. Those release schedules are fucking horrible.
TFW the metal equivalent to the Diamond Authority ends up being metalloids named
Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax
>mfw male equivalent
No, i just want my gay space rocks to stay gay
>They're not fighting literal metal people.
>They're fighting personifications of metal bands.
The creators have claimed that they can't reveal the schedule ahead of time. However, Matt claims that he thinks the new one should be satisfying (but then again, he's not exactly going to say that he hates his boss's decision).
Who says the space rocks need to fuck the space ores?
Who says the space ores would be straight?
The space rocks are gay in human eyes because they have romantic relationships with what we consider other women. Would it not be the same when Titanium rubs down his bare chest with motor oil, while Iron watches from the shadows, stricken with a vast thirst.
>Tfw want to discuss the show while its airing but mods delete SU threads if /sug/ is up
Can /sug/ just stay in /trash/ when the show comes back?
Lion is Rose's gemless body.
Rose could form a human womb in her body when she was anthropomorphic, there's no reason she couldn't form a lion's brain and program it with a few minor commands and her own memories:
If you find Steven
>Look after him
>Assist him if it's urgent
>Reveal important shit from time to time
>Be a lion
He's still a human, he will grow.
He grew from a baby to a teenager.
I really hope he has a growth spurt eventually though, Professional Beach Hunk Steven had better fucking happen eventually.
No, Lion is probably around the same age as Steven. He's most likely a prototype of creating life from a gem without the use of a kindergarten, but required a part of a living gem to manifest (Rose's hair). This success gives the idea of reproduction a go ahead for Steven to be born, but with the expense of Rose' being.
Hey, did anyone else notice that when two gems who love each other fuse they don't have any extra arms, and when they hate each other they have extra-extra arms?
Lion is pink diamond
I think it's a gradual scale of repationship quality. The better the relationship, the more humanoid the fusion.
It fits pretty well:
>Stevonnie is perfect
>Garnet is almost perfect
>Opal, RQ and Sardonyx are mostly normal
>Sugilite is a bit more monstrous
>Alexandrite is more monstrous still
>Malachite is the least humanoid of all
I said arms, not limbs. Alexandrite has six arms because garnet, pearl, and amethyst aren't in love, but ruby and sapphire are, thus they contribute only a single pair of arms to the whole
Gem s have no nipples and they're all relatively flat.(Rose was a fatty)
I expected more cute
mildly lewdLapis in this thread
The crew already said there are no rules for how fusions look except extra of something
>Garent: Extra eyes
>Opal: Extra arms
>Sugilite: Extra arms and eyes
>Alexandrite: Extra arms and eyes
>Rainbow Quartz: Extra eyes
>Sardonyx: Extra eyes and arms
The only outlier is Stevnonnie but shes not even a normal gem fusion
Garnet has only one extra eye, RQ has two.
Garnet's not a 100% perfect couple, they still fight sometimes. Garnet was so excited about Stevonnie because of how perfect a maych Steven and Connie were.
>Garnet has only one extra eye, RQ has two.
Because Sapphire only has one. Why would Garnet have four eyes? Not only that, its not like Steven and Connie never had problems and plus they're not in a relationship. Also, we've only seen R&S fight once. To say Steven and Connie have a better relationship than them is ludicrous.
So far, there are no sightings or implications of non-gem lifeforms on Homeworld. Meaning that, if lion WAS Rose's familiar, that didn't happen until after she arrived on Earth and took an active interest in the planet's natural state. So, the ability to have familiars is likely a power that gems haven't discovered or explored, due to aforementioned lack of resources.
Or, since Rose's powers seem to be largely rooted in nature, having a familiar is something unique to her/other nature-themed gems.
>inb4 why is he pink
Part of the show's aesthetic. Amass familiars, they get color-coded.
It's a bit of a stretch, but maybe Lion was a mortally-wounded lion that Rose happened upon one day, hundreds of years ago. Feeling bad for the poor creature, she was able to heal him, as well as grant him magical powers (warping, pocket-dimension in his mane, etc.), and immortality.
Rose was not able to do this with her own powers alone though. When she found Lion, she was possession of something that had extraordinary magical power:
The Bismuth stone. It has such incredible magic infused in it, she feared that keeping it, uncontained, would bring chaos, and/or attract more attention from Homeworld. So, she bubbled it and stored it in Lion's mane.
>Rose wears the dress in all flashbacks and even murals
So it's pretty much confirmed that we'll never see her in any other outfit, right?
I should clarify: the love-arm connection so far seem to be an isolated ratio. Eyes are a different matter that lacks a solid rule. honesty is the closest guess, since with the exception of garnet, all multi-eyed fusions have ulterior motives. Garnet can be explained by Ruby not being able to access future-vision, but that doesnt explain why sardonyx has four eyes when she has thee components with three different things going on in her head
Seeing as rose could bring life to certain objects, it may have been a dying or dead lion cub that she healed/brought to life with either her healing ability or the ability to make 'slaves' as seen in watermelon steven
It's weird that Crystal Gems didn't know about the Lion
Seems like Rose kept some secrets even from them, and Lion might be a link to some bigger plot
Although, judging by the way she acted, I wouldn't really call her a tactician, since it seems that she only succeeded thanks to luck and sex drive
If you just clicked the link, it would lead to the original blog of one of the storyboard artists who apparrently deleted the question. Either his answer wasn't the definitive one, or it's a fake quote.
Note that he didn't mention anything about there not being a rule for fusion parts, and the it does leave out the fact that the Rube Cube had no extras.
Admittedly, my theory doesn't cover same-gem fusion but they dont have any distinction between different rubies
Looking at the archive, he deleted most of his post pertaining to fan questions. I assume it was a way to show that his blog isn't for asking questions and that he's not really going to do much of that anymore.
But it's been shown that Ruby+Ruby=Stronger Ruby, and according to Garnet the other fusions make a different being that's stronger the both of the materials strength.
Thus, it would make the most sense for each fusion to fuse with another fusion, as the fusion would be stronger that way.
I belive fusion designs are made with looks and symbology in mind, rather than some concrete mechanics
There are some general rules obviously but I personally glad that they make every fusion rather unic.
Though some anons wanna claim it's some kind of computer shit, I do believe that Rose's will still resides in the Gem somewhat and it came out in those moments in the Room.
But as for Steven meeting Rose, I'm still banking on him getting hurt badly (like broken arm/leg) and knocked out, then finding Rose in a dream where she heals him.
So, It's obviously very really for that, but what would you expect from the series finale?
I know stevencrew is anime fans, and Trigger in particular so I'm really hoping for something big and emotional
Like a PG13 version of the moment in Pic from KLK finale
Well, there is a bit of symbology at least to the hand-rule. Holding hands is considered a romantic gesture.
As for eyes, they represent two different identities sharing a body... usually. I don't remember sardonyx's eyes moving independently, she was just monstrous.
I think since Garnet kind of insists on the whole fusion=relationship connection, it would make sense if their bodies reflected their relationship
I do think that Rose split off some of her base energy to form Lion.
I don't remember that line from cat fingers, but the whole episode was basically Steven making sentient cat life from his body, not normal transformation.
Imagine Rose doing that, on purpose, and with her skill. She could have split off/made Lion prior to giving birth to Steven in order to leave him some latent power/gifts that he'd only retake when old enough.
Jeez man, spoilers
I could see Stevonnie maybe channeling Rose for a momentary power up. She's the right scale already.
It could be, or he got Pink Diamond gem stored up somewhere on him
The space warping stuff that he does seems really powerful for what supposed to be just a familiar
But then again, every random artifact of gems have some Jojo level world breaking powers so Lion doesn't seem that out of place
does anyone have any headcanons about gem vaginas?
My headcanon is that imperfect fusions can get multiple vaginas or really fucked up ones if they're more monstrous. Sugilite has 3 vaginas like a kangaroo, and each one is filled with teeth
Well, because bismuth is a metal. Albeit a post transitional metal.
While gems also contain metallic elements in them, I believe non metals like carbon make the bulk of their forms.
actually, most of them are based on silicon and oxygen. Pearl isn't even a stone, and to be honest, we don't even have proof that bismuth is really bismuth. Rose quartz also forms hopper crystals you know
Literally only Rose has breasts and that's due to her fetishizing humans. While Garnet, Jasper, and Amethyst have curves in approximately the right places, that just means that their torso is spherical.
They'd look weird as fuck naked.
I'm hoping the CG and any remnants of the gem culture will leave Earth and fly away like angels as Steven looks up towards them and plays his ukelele for one last song.
Maybe the final fight will have a bunch of gems fusing together, possibly with the humans as well for a big End of Evangelion style climax.
This isn't post-season 4 AT brosef, shit like this actually leads somewhere.
If you want a show about a group of male-identifying inorganic aliens that can change shape, combine with each other, and have a long history of civil wars that take place on earth, with an underdog faction that decides to vouch for humans, warp points that connect certain intergalactic points, etc etc.....
Oh boy, this just gets better and better.
Why would anyone wants this is beyond me.
The concept itself is literally sonic oc tier bullshit.
