>>79152364 >has a patreon so he can make one comic a week for a year and doesn't even do that >can't take criticism and will bitch about it on twitter >panel layout is atrocious >2deep3u science and intellectual mumbo jumbo that he manages to screw up on the most basic level at times >redesigns bastardizing the source material and constantly promotes his ideas as best
If Diaz put half the effort into his comic that he does campaigning for causes on twitter he'd have been nominated for an Eisner award by now. As it is the comic is a boring with poor paneling and worse layouts, thinly veiled fetish waifu bait (but it's okay because he says its empowering) character designs are liable to change on a whim depending on what movie he saw that week. and an update schedule that makes VGCats look topical and current. It's disingenuous and poor quality at best, at worst (and increasingly most likely) the comic only exists as a platform to give Diaz some credence of legitimacy when he whines about how terrible everyone but he is on social media.
>>79152326 I think at this point more people are familiar with Diaz than his comic; like me for example.
I know him as the guy who makes really ugly, lazy redesigns (except for that marble statue Wonder Woman) that miss the overall thematic points of the characters in favor of his own, "better" takes that are always peurile.
The worst was the one where he advocated making Zelda steampunk, removing the fairy tale narrative framework in favor of Game of Thrones style political thriller stuff, and turning the gameplay into a hybrid generic western RPG and cuhrayzy combat system. I don't mind that none of that is evenly remotely Zelda-esque, but I do mind that he adopted a holier-than-thou attitude in its making and declared it to be an improvement on the actual series.
>>79152361 >his basic ideas are good His basic ideas are ripped from every other successful sci-fi piece of media so of course they're good. Dresden Codak started off as a pile of shit and then it turned into Metropolis: Blade Runner. Dude's a pretentious hack that can draw decently but thats about it.
>>79152326 Is this supposed to remind me of Ghost in the Shell?
>>79152600 2D Zelda is just about perfect as it is. I actually feel like Dark Souls is basically what 3D Zelda should have eventually became instead of just stagnating. DS is like 3D Zelda except better in just about every way imo.
>>79152656 >His basic ideas are ripped from every other successful sci-fi piece of media so of course they're good. I've got no love or hate either way for Diaz, but come off it, anon. The concept of originality is bullshit.
Creator is a self-righteous fat-headed baby of a man that can't put together a nicely flowing comic page to save his life Now I'm not one to knock something just because the person who created it is a twat, but the comic isn't particularly interesting in the first place
>>79152695 >Is this supposed to remind me of Ghost in the Shell? Yes, but if you ever mention it in Diaz's presence he'll throw a tantrum. Like most hipster douchebags he needs you to know how original and brilliant he is despite every thought he has being derivative.
>>79152702 And? I'm not asking for complete originality, I'm asking for at least more than a pathetic ripoff of some of the most popular science fiction works of the past century. Its LITERALLY just metropolis with some other bullshit thrown in, and not even the original black and white, the anime metropolis, because fuck knows he's only seen a couple photos from the original. What he does is boring, trite garbage with no attempt at mixing it up except with waifubait bullshit and a faggot self-insert. >The concept of originality is bullshit. You're a tool.
>>79152792 You're mad as hell for a stupid reason. And yes, originality is bullshit. Granted, there's a fine line between inspiration and plagiarism, but there's only so many ideas people can come up with before they repeat.
I haven't read the comic so I can't really speak to its quality, I just want you to know there's nothing new under the sun. Hell, that's a physical law even.
>>79152762 I have no idea who Diaz is (sounds like a dipshit going by that one twitter screencap), I literally only clicked this topic because I thought pic was supposed to be GitS in Western artstyle.
Like, come ON, she has Motoko's exact outfit and hairstyle. Biggish purple hair with straight bangs, backless sci-fi corset with jeans worn over it.
>>79152485 >>2deep3u science and intellectual mumbo jumbo that he manages to screw up on the most basic level at times I think he gets too much flak for his layout on /co/, but that's just me. Besides for that you are right, but I'm curious what you mean by this point. What science mumbo jumbo does he screw up?
>2deep3u science and intellectual mumbo jumbo that he manages to screw up on the most basic level at times
i think his huge problem in that department is that he doesn't actually do any research into the topics he wants to discuss in his story. he just looks at something like ghost in the shell or deus ex and bases all his knowledge on those topics on that.
he's like someone who writes a superhero deconstruction
>>79156136 >Like when he redesigned WW as a living, white greek statue but didn't know that those kind of statues used to be actually painted and colorful Someone's job was to paint the penises of statues?
People get annoyed at Diaz because he gets paid so much to do so little.
What people don't realize though is that Diaz comes from a rich family and the majority of his Patreon money comes from his parents.
This is the new thing that unsuccessful rich kids do these days. They set up charity foundations or artistic endeavours which allow them to hide their lack of success.
The real benefactors of this arrangement are Diaz's parents. When they go to cocktail parties they can now say their son is an artist instead of having to admit that he is a failure who they financially support.
The real tragedy is the naive would be artists who think that a career like Diaz's is possible without rich parents.
>>79152792 Different anon but the other dude had a point.
Everything we see influences us. When you see something cool it influences and inspires you even more. You see these worldwide trends in creative styles because creativity draws from what the creatives experience and see around them, so it's a mix of the times and what's popular in design and media and entertainment and the esteemed classics and great masters and all that.
It's inevitable that everything's a little bit derivative. The question is whether or not one can add a little something to the mix to make it seem fresh, but most basic stories and songs and melodies have been sung by now and thinking that someone could somehow create something completely original, without any influences from what has been before, is ludicrous.
>>79159267 >>79158863 I dont' really get what the big deal is here. He has good art, some people just really like good art. Is it hard to believe that the art is carrying it above the story? >>79158596
>>79159481 his art can be pretty at a surface level, but is static as fuck. Diaz can't give life and movement to his pages even if his life was at risk. Also bad layout and a single mouth for his waifu at all times.
>>79162282 I don't think Dresden Codak is that bad of a comic, in fact I really like certain pages, but Diaz is just a huge baby. Every time people call him out on his shit he throws a fit and then deletes both the outburst and the original post that was criticized.
One time he posted on this blog asking his fans to buy him a rare video game, I replied saying there's no reason you can't just buy it yourself, he blew up at me saying it was JUST A JOKE C'MON and then deleted the original post anyway.
It's not about his art. His art is fine. It's Aaron Himself is the problem and how much of a whiney baby he is. Rich kids cannot take criticism to well. That is why I was saying they do not understand the value of hard work. If he did. He would be able to take criticism and grow as an artist.
Maybe I'm overly touchy about this but I hate the underlying theme "Le science is cool and good, reLIEgion is dumb and most people are stupid sheeple that need to be shown the way by SCIENCE" that he spouts without any kind of nuance (or even appreciation for actual science: in his comic, "science" usually means "cool gadgets and shit", rather than the painstakingly slow and arduous process of figuring shit out (which is a lot less glamorous). IIRC he even made fun of the idea of peer review in a bunch of strips.
The comic is also (IMO) full of pseudo-objectivist bullshit, like how society hinges entirely upon the work of a couple of individuals and everyone else are useless parasites that are only getting in the way of progress with petty things like regulations and laws.
But then again maybe I'm being overly sensitive and he just wants to make some pretty Sci-Fi story about his robo-waifu.
>>79153202 >Still, I wish people would stop bitching about how much Diaz sucks and start drawing more porn of Kimiko. It's not worth it. He'll find it because you know he's the kind of asshole that spends an hour a day googling himself and then he'll release his hounds.
>>79162865 >maybe I'm being overly sensitive and he just wants to make some pretty Sci-Fi story about his robo-waifu I think this is probably the truth (especially when you consider stuff like >>79162395) but Diaz is too much of a self-aggrandising pretentious douchebag reliant on tumblrbucks to ever admit that. Which is a shame, because I think everybody including himself would probably be happier if he did.
I believe that his folks must be rich, but is there any evidence that they are they one throwing money at him? This wouldn't be the first time people chucked money at a comic because they wanted to fuck/waifu its female lead and hope to see tit and butt shots of her. Frankly, I've seen it happen with way worse comics that more even more transparent wifubait than DC. making money with creatire shit is about pandering, not being good.
