I'm a picky reader and I drop a fanfic instantly if I spot issues that annoy me; frequent typing errors, bad paragraph formatting, swearwords that don't fit the tone of the work, etc. You haven't pushed any of those kinds of buttons, your text is readable. I like how you're examining the story from the viewpoint of characters who have this distant, dignified and old-fashioned demeanor; it's different from more generic and down-to-earth POV characters. Also, it's rare for me to read a fanfic involving a work that I don't care about, but so far this fic's keeping me interested enough (currently I'm halfway through the second chapter).

I used to write fanfiction. Got a kick out of the fact that people would read my stories. So I wrote more and more, and just got more and more popular. By about the time I got about a million reads over a few dozen stories I started getting sick of it. I started to lose interest in my own fanbase. I started writing intentionally bad stuff, second person perspective wish fulfillment type stories. They just ate that up all the more.

So I just quit. I'd rather write my own stories, my own characters, and not have any audience, rather than keep doing that.

I write fanfic, but I don't really read much. Gravity Falls gave me a lot of great Head-canons I wanted to explore, so I made some. I made one about a Prom Night where Mabel tried to help Dipper get a date and have it be successful, and an AU about the last episode. Both were pretty heavy on the feels side.

I really liked doing it, and got some pretty positive feedback on top of it, which I didn't expect. I hadn't written in years so it was a great way of getting back into the game.

I read bad fanfiction for a laugh. Years ago there was one (deleted now) that gave my mates and I a good chuckle when we read it aloud.

It was a Naruto/Sasuke yaoi fic. Standard affair, make outs at home, discussing drama relevant to where the author is in the series at the time of writing, and taking a shower together before sex in a bed. What was notable was that the author kept switching between first and third person; one paragraph it's "Naruto and Sasuke" next it's "me and Sasuke". We joked that it was a threesome with the author. What was the most memorable moment was when Sasuke put a finger to Naruto's lips to hush him, but the author not only misspelled "put" with two u's and double past tense, they also somehow missed the F key so bad they spelled finger with a W, giving us the gem "Sasuke puutted a winger on Naruto's lips." Since we were reading this aloud, we pronounced it as "poot'd a winger" and it remains an injoke to this day.

On the way we listened excitedly to Good Charlotte and Marilyn Manson. We both smoked cigarettes and drugs. When we got there, we both hopped out of the car. We went to the mosh pit at the front of the stage and jumped up and down as we listened to Good Charlotte.

The problem with fanfiction is that in the minds of most people fanfiction is just stories about male impregnation or cuckolding or self-inserts or whatever. Basically they're very low quality wank material and most people look down on them, some stories are incredibly complex and well designed and are even better than the source material but those are very rare and stuck between stories of Sonichu and sasgayxnaruto

Part of the problem is that doing comedy in written form is surprisingly kinda tricky - it can certainly be done, but it's not as easy as it is in other mediums.

And that applies double for a cartoon, like Ed Edd & Eddy. EEE draws most of its humor from its surreal animation and imagery, the appealing voice acting and delivery, clever slapstick, and a good sense of timing, all of which just don't work in written form.

One time when I was ten, I read a fanfic that was just the first episode of Naruto the Abridged Series but transcribed in every detail. Ignoring the obvious question of why anyone would do that, what struck me even then was how incredibly unfunny it became (and Naruto Abridged wasn't what you'd call high comedy to begin with, but this made it look even worse). Every detail was the same, but without timing, voice acting, or sight gags, suddenly all the appeal vanished.

Doing good literary comedy is quite possible, but it requires a very different set of tools.

Gay romance and crossovers have been the core of fanfic ever since it began, because they're the two things that almost never happen. Crossovers require a lot of wrangling in real life to occur, and gay romance was (and still is, for the most part) intensely rare in most media.

Like, the reason AO3 has so many fanfics of Thor and Loki hooking up isn't because it's in the original. It's because it's not. They want them to hook up, but they never will, and that causes them to set out and try to make their own canon.

I'm really relieved to hear it's readable even for non-fans or non-shippers. With shipping fics it's often a bit challenging to know what the real level is, based on the reader feedback, since (especially with the less popular ships) people tend to praise pretty much anything as long it caters to their ship. But I kind of wanted to tackle it and try to make it tolerably believable, even without the rose-tinted shipping goggles.

I have been thinking I should maybe rewrite the 2nd and 3rd chapters, they're maybe a bit overly wordy. I'll be interested to hear what you think when / if you make it past them, heh. And of course in general, any feedback, also critical, is welcomed. Especially from a picky reader.

Ao3 has more smut because it's allowed there, whereas ff.net has a policy to ban all MA rated content (coarse language, sexual and violent content, adult themes etc). There's a lot anyway because the admins haven't caught them, but they're supposed to be deleted on sight without a warning.

So a lot of writers take all of their smutty, dark or raunchy work to Ao3. There's a lot of good stuff too, and the tagging system allows for nice filtering. And for a while, the general level of fics was higher, though it's been exploding in popularity for the last year so I'm not sure if the difference is there any more.

Yeah, that's why they call it "slash." In old Star Trek fanzines, people would submit fanfics featuring Kirk and Spock's growing romance, and people were annoyed that those fanfics got sorted with stories where Kirk and Spock just hung out. So they created the division of "Kirk & Spock" to describe stories where Kirk and Spock were just buddies, and "Kirk/Spock" to describe stories where Kirk and Spock were butt-buddies. Of course, Kirk/Spock eclipsed Kirk & Spock by a significant margin.

I always wanted to write it and I even managed to get one chapter of a DBZ Bardock/OCwife posted. I lost interest thought when my beta readers never responded back. Got some nice reviews on it though.

I reached the beginning of chapter 5 some time ago but it's late in my timezone. I stopped reading so I can prepare going to sleep and continue tomorrow.

One addition I'd like to add to my previous comment is that I like how you're portraying Hans as a guy who can appear (and even genuinely be) noble and well-meaning, but his inner thoughts show a coldly pragmatic, scheming and manipulative side to him. It feels true to his movie-self. He maintained a pleasant face while secretly making these meticulous plans to turn the events so that he ends up getting what he wants. And I like that Elsa is very aware of what the guy's capable of, and keeps being suspicious of him. There are lots of fanfics where enemies end up having to co-operate, and if they start trusting one another too easily/quickly, it's another issue that can make me quit reading. It's much more fun when there's friction that they have to deal with and things build up slowly. Also, I don't much care for shipping, and I usually only accept canon couples in fanfics. But I can accept other pairings if it's well-written and believable.

Oh and I like the look into Arendelle's politics; showing this balancing act that political leaders have to do with both their own people as well as the leaders of foreign nations. Using stuff like Scandinavian naming conventions or local myths like tomtes is a nice touch too.

The thing is, My Immortal was an increasingly obvious trollfic made to parody bad fanfiction. It wasn't 100% clear that it was at first but as it went on it became more and more obvious with more blatant jokes along those lines. I could see being confused at first but I can't understand how anyone who read most of it could not realize it was a trollfic.

I think you underestimate modern Marvel.

I don't generally like fanfiction, but I will admit I've read some (an extremely small/rare bit is actually any good) that really does do much more interesting and well executed things with ideas from works than the works themselves. Usually I only get tempted to actually look at stories if I feel like the original really mucked something up or there's a lot of wasted potential. And although most fanfic is utter shit, I have found a tiny few where I'll wish the original had been more like the fanfic.

Adventure Time fic that's third part in a series.

It's so good, able to do romance and shit while also having political intrigue and uses most of the important AT characters (very rare for stories for this show).

I used to write/read fanfic back many years ago. Then I took writing classes. Then I came to the conclusion about 90% fanfic are badly written spec scripts and you do it for free. While major studios hire writers to basically write fanfiction for their IPs, except they know how to write and format correctly. The other 10% are the fanfic authors that turn their works into their own books ala 50 Shades of Grey.

Confession time-
I've always wanted a Harrry PotterXOuran High School Host Club crossover.
The ideas of Tamaki and Nekozawa with magic, Kyoya manipulating the monetary system, both sets of twins trying to out do each other, Honey and Mori taming the Forbidden Forest, and the sexual confusion and emotional turmoil of Hogwarts students being attracted to Haruhi, all of that just makes me smile.

But alas, my writing skills are shit, and no one else has written it yet.

I love really crazy crossovers and fusions that are actually well thought out and believable. As a matter of fact, one of the best fics I ever read was a Glee/Avatar fusion (which was much better written than Glee too, though it's not like that's hard).

I wrote my last fanfic just last year. It was OC centric. It took place in a fan community built continuity, one of several.

Hell, I even wrote a history chart for my character so no one would have to read the fics and roleplays that shaped him. Honestly, I can't stomach looking back at them, but I do appreciate them.
I still value my OC, but I don't take it is seriously as I use to. It's just fun to do.

I don't fully understand what drives me to keep it in the back of my mind. I was so young when it started, and still think about the people I met then. I cared about them. I hope they're okay. I look in one whoever still has active accounts from time to time. I loved the OCs they made, and I wanted to inspire them to keep creating.

But they fell out of the fandom. I lost my own love for Teenage Robot almost forcibly, when I sent out into the world to grow the hell up. Yeah I grew up, but I never forgot the community.

In fact, I want to write another fanfic. I already started compiling a list of OCs to use, as well as building the framework of the story and events to occur.

I want to build upon the theme of ideas, good and bad, and how they can make or break whole worlds. It's sort of an allegory for fanfictions as a genre.

However, since I do have responsibilities, and a life to live, it may be a long time before I even get to begin writing it, but it will be done.

I have an idea for a DC fanfic, it takes place after a war with Darkseid, we follow Booster Gold, Rip Hunter and the Immortal Man as they travel through time to stop Vandal Savage changing world events. But here's the twist; it isn't actually Booster Gold, it's a brainwashed Animal Man, who agreed to undergo brainwashing to think he's Booster, for the sake of protecting his family from an intergalactic assassin and the real Booster Gold is on his own mission to hunt for a resurrected Maxwell Lord.

Thats the thing, not everyone has the willpower to look thru actual shit to ind the gold and gems. And trying to take someones else recommendation for good fic doesn't usually go well because different standards and the whole thing becomes moot when the good fic you finally found gets abandoned because the writer lost interest or the writers dog died and they can't deal with the feels.

abandoned fics still hurts less that your favorite tv or game series getting canceled

Instead of using his rather weak firebending skills he would use an arsenal of smoke and gas based weapons, including a hallucinogenic one that would make him appear more threatening than he really is

Bullram - Combustion bender of course. I liked the curving charges that P'li did and thought what else kind of bullshit can you make up around this idea. So his combustion charge instead of going in a line and hitting a single point would instead create a conus like spread and hit a whole area at once, with less power that usual so he's not too op. And make him tall and angry for the tradition sake

The problem I find with the authors I have known is that they start making fanfics when they had free time. But as their lives went on they had more responsibilities and higher priorities. Now by the end of the day they rather watch a movie, play a game, read a book, or hang out with friends rather than continue their old works.

I'm sorry guys, I know its been years, but when I do have the time I do get a couple paragraphs in every so often. Also, been working under a different name doing original works now, and that has eaten most of my allotted writing time. I still love you all.

Five Weeks At Freddys is probably the best thing I've ever seen, and its a damn shame too cause it seems the author isn't going to continue it. The characters actually had character, and the protagonist had his moments of pure cowardice.
