Can we just have a background/art thread for cartoons and comics? Discuss your favorite artists, styles, and bash CalArts. Pic related, never liked Wakfu much, but damn I'll watch just for the art, look at this shit. It makes me tear up.
>never liked Wakfu much
same here. I don't care for the cartoonish fights, the cheescake, the animation, nor the story in general, but holy fuck I would like to like it for things like that pic
>SU wank off thread
Most of these aren't good, I'm tired of seeing use a huge default brush for the clouds and then using the blur tool to smear it, as well as have lighting that doesn't make sense >>79073883
Salty faggots can't handle criticism
The layer work particular here >>79073810 looks really bad, with beams of sunlight being random jagged shards rather than describing the form of what they're hitting, while the value rest of the plateau doesn't match how close it is to the viewer.
No really, post something you like. Nobody said anything about your actual critique. Stop being a faggot.
No, go for it, get into Calarts, and then burn it to the ground.
Holy hell, this is some good shit.
I don't know guys, call me a faggot for my shit taste, but I'm not to impressed with western cartoons right now. Actually, I was really planning to attend a Japanese University but I'll Take what I can get. Besides, not to sound like a tumblrite faggot, but this industry isn't exactly easy to get into for women, and please don't Rebecca me, that pedo dike's a disgrace to all things good.
Don't know why it's not there for you.
Try to find that sweet little spot that pleases both the werstern audience and weebs, regardless of your opinion on SU, they get away with a lot of weeb shit. And stuff like deepest lore and muh feels is becoming more and more welcomed by the industry. Sometimes you need a limit on your creativity if you want to get a job, and this may be the only serious chance you get to become a professional animator.
But yeah if you want to go full weeb and chase your dreams, go for it. But you may fail and this little train of opportunity will be gone.
Okay, well thanks for the advice, I'll check into it. No I agree, and I do like cartoons, I really do, but it's just not something I'm sure I want to get into because like you said, creativity is limited. I'm actually a huge /lit/ fag and studied college class literature in highschool and just knowing I can't go full Tolkien with cartoons rubs me the wrong way.
TV show-wise, Over the Garden Wall is my absolute favorite.
Those Gaussian blur sunlight glows. Hnngg.
God that episode had some of the nicest and comfiest BGs of the show, they really need to ask that artist to work on more eps
I was just dumping some backgrounds. What is with you people going into threads and whining without contributing some shit of your own?
I love these videos
Sleeping Beauty will always have my favorite backgrounds.
Can you post your tumblr blog if you have one or some of your art? I wonder what kind of artists calarts invites into that place
Also since you are more interested in weaboo stuff I wonder how that affects your style
Don't go for animation over in Japan. They pay barely a living wage to their animators, it's this huge controversy. You work insanely long hours for barely anything. People wind up quitting after a year or two because of serious health problems or committing suicide. There is no weeb dream in japanese animation.
Sorry, nah. I'd rather not post anything involving me on 4chan, but thanks for interest anyways. Stuff in this guy's link is made by students there though, hope that helps >>79074332
I was going into a manga program, but your not wrong it's a hard life but there's nothing wrong with bohemian lifestyle to me. It all depends on what type of person you are, besides I can always get paid as a cuddle hooker on the sides.
Back to cartoons though, they don't pay too well either unless you're actually writing/directing a sucsesful show like Butch.
>I'd rather not post anything involving me on 4chan
Why? It's not like we are on /b/ or something
people tend to post their stuff on /co/ without problem but hey if you don't want to then no prob bob
>Nobody said anything about your actual critique
Because you have nothing to say.
Because you know nothing about art. You like any garbage with bloom and highly saturated color pallets.
Explain what's good about those.
Partially because of an agreement I have with some people if you will, I'd rather not get into it.
>They pay barely a living wage to their animators
Not necessarily true.
> it's this huge controversy.
Stop believing in clickbait articles.
Stop talking about things you barely know about.
I don't know if anyone likes my image dump, but I have to say >>79080667 You, good sir, do not seem to know what you're talking about. Haven't you seen the articlies on Kotaku or Cartoon Brew about it? You definitely do not seem to know the industry. Instead of taking out of your ass and shitting up the thread, how about you contribute some backgrounds
Ciaran Duffy working on one of the backgrounds for Song of the Sea
Finishing up my third year in Japanese studies this spring, at this rate I'm fine
Kind of, I've talked with professionals who've given me art tips before a couple times. It's not like I've gotten buddy buddy with them though.
Damn these are nice
there's nothing wrong with finding something visually appealing
The Crow did chiaroscuro pretty nice, though I haven't seen it in cartoons OtGW aside. It's even pretty rare in anime, too bad.
I love Hawaii and watercolor. I'm terrible with water color so I it makes me cry seeing beautiful watercolor. I also love anything with water in it's art, well I love the look of water at that, and Lilo and Stitch has water in the background practically every other panel.
