Think I got through about 8 episodes. I didn't think it was that bad, especially compared to Johnny Test, and even thought it was even kind of cool that it did some steady world building and development of their powers over the episodes I did see. It just also felt completely generic and I didn't feel like catching up.
>>79070832 SU gets better and better as it goes on really. I wouldn't blame you if you watched the first few episodes and wrote it off. I'd say it takes until Giant Woman to really become at least somewhat interesting.
>>79070856 Used to watch this show up until the third or fourth season or so. I just don't 'get' it anymore. Dropped it and have never really looked back.
>>79074771 I couldn't sit through this for half an episode. I think there's something actually wrong with you if you could make it through 8 episodes without your body blinding itself to protect you from permanent mental damage.
>>79070832 Yeah, I was pretty much the same way with SU. After the first four episodes I dropped it and didn't really get interested until the first season finale but didn't start full on watching it until the start of the second Steven Bomb
>>79075649 >SU gets better and better as it goes on really. I wouldn't blame you if you watched the first few episodes and wrote it off. I'd say it takes until Giant Woman to really become at least somewhat interesting. It has a fair amount of bad episodes (namely anything involving Connie) and does get a little excessive with tumblr pandering but it is not by any means a bad show.
SU is good when it tries, and I'm not just referring to lore (although that is arguably it's primary appeal for fans) - I generally really like when SU focuses on its characters and character development, such as in Steven and the Stevens (probably my favourite overall episode)
>>79076900 I can't stand Sadie's Song, not because of the cross-dressing, as other cartoons have done that gag, but because fucking nothing happens - no character development is made, the plot doesn't advance, there's nothing funny in there, etc..
>>79082626 I just watched it for the first time today, they aired the Chloe episode and shit was so cute and comfy, I just assumed that was the first episode and she was a regular character. Now I watched another episode and it was just the bears trying to become INTERNET MEEMS. Fuck this
>open thread expecting first post to be Steven Universe
Never change /co/
Anyway I can't say I've ever dropped a show after just a few episodes. That seems rather shallow to me Too many series I've watched have had just mediocre first seasons while the rest just gets better. Of course the opposite happens as well Either I watch a show in it's entirety regardless of quality or I don't start it at all. Damn glad I never jumped on the "Maybe MLP isn't so bad" train
Afraid I cant tell you for certain since I totally dropped it after the first season. Friends who stuck it out say the plots and world building get better but the characters remain their same shitty selves through the whole seriesl
>>79083320 >does it get better at all? S3 is fairly good. But pretty much everyone agrees S2 was a mess, in every sense of the word; just to start, it watches like the arcs of two separate seasons cut in half and slapped together.
The dichotomy is really interesting to observe between the sizable number of people who think cartoons are in a golden age of creativity and creator freedom and the almost equally sizable number of people who think cartoons are in a woeful state of pandering and shallow platitudes.
Obviously a community is not one person and an entire consumer base for an entertainment medium even less so, but I don't think I've ever seen the general opinion on the quality of a generation of cartoons be so starkly polarized. Just an observation.
>>79083788 Oh yeah sure the franchise that is just going to be popular for a couple of years will totally leave a permanent scar just like Homestuck, we'll be talking about it forever just like how people still talk about Homestuck.
Cartoon Network is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of Time Warner. The channel airs primarily animated programming, ranging from action to animated comedy. It was founded by Betty Cohen and launched on October 1, 1992.
It is primarily aimed at children and teenagers between the ages of 7–16, and also targets older teens and adults with mature content during its late night daypart Adult Swim, which is treated as a separate entity for promotional purposes and as a separate channel by Nielsen for ratings purposes. A Spanish language audio track for select programs is accessible via SAP; some cable and satellite companies offer the Spanish feed as a separate channel.
As of February 2015, Cartoon Network is available to approximately 96.4 million pay television households (82.8% of households with television) in the United States.
>>79082869 The show is a surreal action-adventure comedy that relies extensively on visual gags and catchphrases. Creator Pete Browngardt has cited the work of cartoonists Don Martin, Gary Larson and Robert Crumb, as well as Golden Age-era animators such as Tex Avery when it came to developing the style of the show. Each 11-minute episode is presented in a unique format, consisting of a main seven- to nine-minute story, some short bumpers typically composed of a quick visual joke, and an original short that focuses on the show's side-characters.
>>79083841 The thing about "Tumblr" fandoms is that they move from franchise to franchise, they're the same crowd of autists propping up a different product, they went from Hetalia to Homestuck to SU to Undertale, it's all the same people.
Meanwhile /co/ autists cling, they absolutely fucking cling to the thing they like especially if it has a waifu, whether it's MLP, or Fairy Oddparents, or some teenage robot show from ten years ago, or some Scooby Doo special from twenty years ago, the shit doesn't fucking die.
>>79070756 Steven Universe, I just could not get into it. Korra, I gave it one season and half of season 2 before I dropped this shit. Teen Titans Go, it's like they took all the unfunny obnoxious "humor" from the original show and only kept that.
>>79083320 Season 2 is fucking terrible, but does have two really good episodes about the first avatar. Season 3 kicks ass from start to finish. Almost as good as ATLA season 2. Season 4 is okay. Toph's presence and the finale dragged it down.
>>79070756 Steven Universe (can't get past Steven's stupidity... now all the shit I read about it on /co/ has made me not care to try again) Regular Show (hate most shows where the leads are assholes) Adventure Time (I may pick it up again, the randomness gets on my nerves) Adventures of Gumball (I think it's clever, I just feel too damn old for it)
>>79076960 Shit, get back into it. Venture Bros. is amazing. Season 1 was the weakest season.
She gets in the way of their /ss/ fantasies. Although I'm not sure why anyone would want to self-insert as an obese moron, yuri is the way to go since practically every guy in that show is an annoying fuccboi.
>>79070832 I thought it was merely decent early on, passable. I watched it very sparingly at first over the course of months just because it was something to do when I was very, very bored. Then at around episode 18 it suddenly got very, very good and I wound up watching the whole rest of the show up to current in like two sittings. This happened like a week ago. Now I absolutely love this show.
See, I liked WBB at first: the first 10 or so episodes were nice enough and got a decent laugh out of me every now and then, but then the chupacabra thing came in and for some reason the irrational hatred I had for that character seemed to seep into the rest of the series.
>>79075649 Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem is what usually hooks a lot of people who where suspect of the series.
Even I was turned off by it, thinking it was some kind of regular monster of the week/slice of life cartoon, but then those episodes happened and it completely opened the door to plot, development, lore, and shit like that.
Now the series is in the middle of potential intergalactic warfare. Not bad for an american kids show.
>>79086549 >>79086565 I think the only reason anyone can reasonably hate Connie/Connie based episodes is that her presence really does not move the plot/story along. She is there to eventually become a love interest, once both of them reach that point of knowing that they love each other.
That said she is 12 and he is 14 and naive as fuck. By the time they have their actual first kiss/confession of love we might as well be in the fucking 3rd or 4th season. Their progression of couple development is slow as shit. But again, its expected given their age and inexperience.
So at this point, most of the time she is there the episodes do not revolve around development. They might as well be filler episodes, for now.
