Yes. Barry's relationship with Iris is integral to the plot of the comics and giving him a male partner would feel insanely shoehorned-in and awkward. For a character where romantic relationships aren't important storywise, making them gay wouldn't be much of a problem, but Iris is so important to Barry Allen's character that such obvious changes would be really dumb.

This problem is sort of shown in CW Barry, but mainly because Iris does fucking nothing and doesn't contribute anything to the show.

The point is that it has to feel like it's not just shoehorned in, and that's impossible with the relationship between Barry and Iris because of how prominent it is in the comics.

It's like if they made a Punisher movie but made him refuse to use guns just to make a point about gun control or something. The change doesn't necessarily mean that the movie would outright suck from an objective perspective, but it would be so jarring and noticeable and overall negatively affect the adaptation.

But yeah, you're probably right in saying that tumblr fanatics wouldn't take no for an answer no matter what.

FFS. Ezra Miller is bisexual. He has even said in interviews that he is mostly into girls. Why did they cast this actor? Is it because he is a very talented young actor with great performances in 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' and 'We Need to Talk about Kevin,' along with good range? I feel like Joblo are putting two and two together. I've heard a couple of people (John Campea, maybe?) talking about how ANYTHING you post about BvS or SS will be the top read story that day. It could be Ezra MIller, hell they could be introducing Midnighter (like >>79065940 said), Poison Ivy or following through on Geoff Johns Hal/Sinestro slashfic. Hell even Catwoman is bi now. If Barry is gay I won't mind as long as that isn't his sole personality trait. If its subdued and he is treated as a regular character that happens to be gay it'll probably be fine.
