That I can actually agree with. I love the concept and design of Starkiller Base, but I definitely dislike how it was handled in the movie. This is implying that the Death Star II wasn't entirely destroyed, that some of it must have fallen to the Forest Moon of Endor?
Also this would have been a far better ending for the movie if you think about it. Rey is a scavenger, she should have found the map. Instead of R2 waking up just in time, so that Rey can fly to Ireland and stare at Mute Skywalker.

I've watched the first three or four episodes of Rebels and really don't like it. Does it become better in the ways I mention above?
I'm caving in to the zeitgeist and I would like to consume more Star Wars, but I want to enjoy it.

Clone Wars starts to find its footing by the end of season 1, but definitely hits its stride by Season 3 and stays good.
If you don't like Rebels after the first few episodes, you probably won't like it at all.

Clone Wars definitely gets better as it goes on.
What didn't you like the first episode? I honestly liked Yoda a lot in it and it also kind of established the foreshadowing of Clone development throughout the series when he talked to them inside the cave about individuality.

I was just so fucking happy. It definitely had some JJ Abrhams problems but they were minor in the face of his strengths and style. I think I would be angrier with the fact that it's a rehash of ANH if it wasn't so clearly part of the point JJ was making about how difficult it is to follow up what's basically the biggest and most trilogy of movies ever made. Using the new kids to show how this series will always be haunted by the past was reasonably clever.
But they get one of those. The ending of the movie is itself about throwing off the fears and restrictions of being a new Star Wars movie, they can't do this again. You get to play your meta chip once.

I found Finn surprisingly fun in TFA. There's something in him that's almost childlike in terms of his excitement and exuberance which so completely fits his character. All his life he has had the First Order to tell him when to wake up, how to march, how to shoot, who to kill, when to eat, when to sleep. Suddenly he's free, his own man, but at the same time somewhat lost. Not just at the overwhelming prospects how how to be his own man in a galaxy still in conflict but because of his own naivette. He knows guns and tactics and a propaganda version of history, but the FO didn't burden their Stormtroopers with superfluous information. He's lost at sea but eager.
He seems to do best when he has Han as his straightman telling him to, "Bring it down," when he gets a bit too into things. Hopefully Poe can keep that up.

Good for you, you did what some people couldn't.
There's some okay stuff in the book, a few things I appreciated, but the overall story structure and writing style were too much. Some people have reported better luck with the audio book version. I found myself tuning out large parts of the story. It just wasn't very gripping.
May try the next one when it comes out just to give him another chance but I don't have any hope he'll fix the issues I had with the first one. I guess he has fans who appreciate it, though, so... good for him.

I don't know, Yoda seems legitimately grumpy in ESB and frankly I have a hard to blaming him. He waited over twenty years for the new hope to show up and it's another Skywalker showing many of the same pitfalls Anakin had. I think Yoda really wasn't expecting much from Luke but Luke earned his respect after he faced Vader, learned the truth, but stayed true to the Jedi path. Yoda in ROTJ is a much more lighthearted person, comparable to what he was like in the Prequels and especially TCWs. Still that's only one interpretation and it's possible it was nothing more than Yoda's tough love. He knew it was a huge burden they were putting on Luke, not just in facing the Emperor but even if he succeeds he'll have to put the Jedi Order back together again. It should be one of the older Jedi since they bear the responsibility for the mess but their time has passed. This means Luke will have to sacrifice much of himself and his own life, grow up faster than he should rather than ease into the position of wise old Grand Master. He has to become the best he can, completely selfless and devoted to the Jedi, in order to bring them back. They didn't have much time to condition Luke either.
I wonder if some of these issues will come up again in TFA. He had to pull a Jedi Order together out of nothing and no one to rely on. Sure his friends support him but not even Leia, who has barely scratched the surface of the Force, knows what is ahead for him. Luke is the chosen one of the Old Order tasked with fixing their all their shit, and when it comes undone and his students die? Makes sense Luke decided to disappear into the galaxy.
At least he didn't just give up since it's apparently true that he's looking for the first Jedi Temple. Seems like he wants to go back to their earliest roots and start again from there.

When you consider the length of time they were up, how few in /b/ at the time probably bothered to use the thread, and how few of those that clicked on it actually bothered to vote... I can't imagine it was all that high.
This isn't to belittle Luke at all, it's just the world at the time when Star Wars was centered on the Prequel Era. More children today have grown up with Ahsoka and Anakin than grew up with Luke and Vader. It's what they are familiar with.
Now with TFA maybe they're getting a more rounded experience in Star Wars. Time will tell.
