Rec me if you want

These came in today. The Venom minicomics are pretty cool. I like Zacchilli's art. Very raw. It came with some stickers and a postcard as well. The Shaolin Cowboy book was crazy. I've never seen so much zombie dick and vag. Die Wergelder is another book that I cannot lend out to people.

6. Sky Doll: Spaceship

I wonder if Kodansha would be ballsy enough to put out Samura's BDSM art book if Die Wergelder does well enough.

I probably wouldn't buy it but it would be interesting to see the reaction of that art book being released in North America.
>>
>>79027372
its the only one i'm interested in for the class
the rest of the reading list is fun home (one of those indie autobio comics about being a lesbian), twilight los angeles 1992, and the two to kill a mockingbird books. I consider myself to be pretty progressive but teacher is literally white guilt 40 year old sjw trying to entrench herself into black culture and it really shows in her reading list
>>
>>79027631
They'd have to have balls the size of planets to publish that. I probably wouldn't buy it either. Samura's art is gorgeous, but I like my sadism with a side of plot like Bradherley's Coach next.

What's the paper quality like in those white Marvel NOW hardcovers? Is it super thin? Or thicker than single issues? How is the binding? Glued or sewn? I've never looked inside them, but am thinking of picking up Aaron's Thor Vol 1 and Fraction's Hawkeye Vol. 1.

How would you rate Lazarus as a series out of ten? How would you rate that hardcover edition. I love Rucka most of the time. I liked the first issue, but didn't keep up with it. Should I pick it up collected?

And can you sell me on Seeley's Revivial series? My interest is piqued, but am not sure if I should make the investment.

Actually I have Noel on order as well, no idea when it's supposed to arrive. Honestly I'm finding the series kind of meh, I don't have a colossal hardon for steampunk like some people do and the art feels very digital-webcomic tier. If the whole thing was in a bold monochromatic style like the covers are I'd probably love it.

But to answer your question I haven't so I can't really say

You actually kind of did. Talbot has done work over a number of styles, and I was wondering whether this was less genre oriented than something like Luther Arkwright. That's understandable, you cant tell the difference between good comics and bad comics yet.

Yeah it's only $55 on IST, which just seems absurd.

I'm so sorry anon.
Honestly, it's on the better end of Slott's work, and I started with Spidey when I first tried getting into comics.
That was just before OMD, and it killed all interest in the hobby for a number of years.
Either way, Marvel is good for starting out, on the single fact that they use recap pages. DC's a bit uneasy to recommend for beginners, as Nu52 the concept of the Multiverse take some getting used to. Just avoid Bendis and Hopeless, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

>>

>>
>>79045324
Pick up the pre-Secret Wars trades of Ms. Marvel before you get the new issues.
>>
>>79045324
Good decision. Spock is varied in quality, but good choice in what you're looking into. Ms. Marvel starts up before SW, so that's where you should head. There's a HC of the first 2 volumes out if interested. Also try Spencer's Ant-Man and Superior Foes of Spider-man (the latter is getting an Omnibus next month.)
Also recc Deadpool (Don't read Daniel Way. The Gerry Duggan run is how I got back into comics) and Superman: American Alien (ignore the shitposter, it's an interesting take on Superman mythos)

I think that's always been a thing, advanced search is broken since forever so only the basic search works. Your problem might be because of the language you used, I clicked the English button and that versions frontpage is simply not working.

Dutch works fine and as far as I know German does too.

It depends entirely on how much you like the art for those parts.

You should only ever get absolutes if you absolutely love the art in the book.

They have redrawn pages and extra content that's really worth the cost.

As for the art, I loved Quitely's on Batman & Robin, as well as Philip Tan's, even though everyone else seems to dislike his style. Flamingo was a favorite character of mine from the second B&R arc with Red Hood.

Then in Incorporated, Paquette had some impressive work.

Bought these in my last to Buenos Aires.

I've been wanting to get into Corto Maltes for years, and this collection seems perfect for it. I'll buy the others if I like it. There were like 10 numbers in the bookstore.

Also bought the second part of Perramus. The 1st one was very nice.

Shield is a waaayyyy old character some people consider the original idea for Captain America. Guy wore a big ass shield on hours chest, kinda goofy.
New shield is the first girl shield appears invulnerable and immortal. Goes back to line 1776 with her. Seems interesting so far.

Black Hood is CRAZY.
Dark book about a cop gets his face blasted and gets on pills and starts beating up criminals on pills for pills.
Real sad violent guy. Used to be a hero on the police force.

Dreaming Eagles is a young guy who is almost pro black panther in his thinking, almost (1966 civil rights era) and wants to march with mlk.
His father appears to be one of the first African American ww2 fighter pilots and flashbacks to being in the war. Wants to protect his son and doesn't seem to agree with too aggressive civil rights movement (what he determines to be dangerous to his family)

Mmmaybe if Half Price Books gets their hands on these...

Otherwise? I don't have any LCS in my area that would cut the costs.

Honestly, as muuch as I loved discovering Tom King in 2015 (Vision and Omega Men are each the best book by their respective company), I gotta say Transformers vs GI Joe rocked my world. I'm not a fan at all of either property, but damn if that isn't the most comic booky comic book that's being made right now. The layouts, the art, the visual shorthand, everything. It's just a fantastic example of why comics aren't visual novels, or cartoon storyboards, and at their best are essentially untranslatable into any other medium. I know, no one is more shocked to be saying that abot goddamn Transformers vs GI Joe than me.

>>
>>79109372
It would cost more money to sue the hipster that draws that shit then the money they would extract out of him for winning a copyright lawsuit, I'd guess.

'that shit' happens to look better than most books that come out.

But you are probably right about their reasoning, also you win no favors from fans for doing shit like clamping down on that stuff. They wouldn't really care until it became something like the doujin market in Japan.
>>
>>79106895
Yeah I recently got the second Thor omnibus for cheap and holy shit is the inking terrible, the guy was pretty much employed for speed alone and would erase details in Jack's pencils if he felt he didn't have time

It's a shame because the comics are really entertaining otherwise

Actually books are generally a much better deal in Canada at the moment, especially if you're buying direct from a Canadian retailer online. A lot of them are still respecting the trade paperback prices set by the publishers which means for the time being they're often a lot cheaper here than they would be in the States. A couple weeks ago I got the Usagi Yojimbo special edition from canadian Amazon for about 60 canuck funbucks. On American Amazon it's 48USD, which is about 70 bucks canadian.
>>
>>79110304
damn that's awesome looking
>>
>>79115338
Wow I'm browsing atm and it's actually an even better deal with the Usagi Dark Horse releases. The prices are almost literally dollar-for-dollar so in Canada it's 7/10ths the price is it in the States.

A shitty dollar isn't always necessarily a bad thing, you're going to get screwed if you're ordering from an American site but if you're after books this is a great time to pick things up. Waaaaay better than when the CAD was way stronger and they were still charging a higher dollar amount than in the States.
>>
>>79115338
>>79115493
What sites are you browsing?

The discounts on Amazon and chapters are terrible right now. We get charged US cover price for shit now

I'm looking at Amazon. Usagi DH #2 on Amazon Canada is 17.24CAD, on American Amazon it's 16.01USD, which is over 23CAD. And Indigo/Chapters seems to be using the same prices as Amazon Canada does.

when you use brick and mortar stores they'll just charge whatever the fuck they want to, that's where people get fucked over. Indigo is always substantially cheaper when you order online compared to buying in person at the store.

If the CAD were still close to/over the value of the USD then sure, buying in the States now is dumb though. The difference in value between the USD and the CAD means if you're buying stuff in the States it now typically costs more in CAD than it would to just buy it here.

Unless you're buying from some asshole comic store that just jacks up the price to whatever they want regardless of what the actual printed prices on the book happen to be. It's why I buy all my shit online now.
