Internet movie critics who were just a few years too old to be the main demographic when it came out give it bad reviews, that's pretty much the main reason people dislike it now. Everyone in my age group liked it just fine growing up with it.

I only dislike it a little bit because I prefer more traditional, timeless sort of Disney movies over their occasional more goofy, pop-culture spouting movies with cartooney-er art styles. I liked Emperor's New Groove less than usual for the same reason. I can still definitely see why people like those movies, though. They're certainly very fun. I only happen to like them less than most of Disney's other films.

Yes I know Hera fucking hated Heracles's guts and Hades was probably the nicest guy in the entire pantheon but I don't care. The fact that the movie is called "Hercules" instead of "Heracles" should be a big enough red flag to let you know Disney cared more about making an entertaining movie than an accurate one.

People say that about Aladdin too. I don't get it. They're likable, they develop, they struggle with dilemmas and have to fight on their own terms to win.

Also, I can't remember the last time a movie ended with the hero pulling out a sword and stabbing the villain to death.
>>
>>79012996
>Why do people hate this movie again?
People hate this movie?
>>
Plot holes, the villain is the only likable character, and Devito as Rocky's Micky isn't that funny.

And before someone asks me what the plotholes are:

>Hades has magic depower juice he doesn't mention or try to make more of/use again when his first attempt fails
>God of the underworld needs to ask his underlings if Hercules is dead instead of just checking his database
>Hades' oracles can see the future but could not forsee Hercules regaining his god status
>>
I doubt you actually heard complaints and bet you made this thread because you heard someone didn't like it.

Hades outshines the rest of the main cast, gospel is weird with Greek mythology, and the mythos they make is swept under the rug after the first 20-30 minutes. It's more of a regular sports movie than a good action/hero movie.
>>
I have yet to see people who hate it, but there are plenty of people out there that thought it was bland and not worth liking.
>>
>>79014591
>Hades has magic depower juice he doesn't mention or try to make more of/use again when his first attempt fails

Looks pretty rare mang, might take 600 years to produce.

>God of the underworld needs to ask his underlings if Hercules is dead instead of just checking his database

Gods don't go to Hades.

>God of the underworld needs to ask his underlings if Hercules is dead instead of just checking his database

Gods don't answer to fate.

Wait, people hate this movie?
I can understand people would get pissy about historical inaccuracies, but considering 90% of Greek mythology is "Zues fucks something to death" and that's not exactly "family friendly" it's probably a smart idea to let inaccuracies slide.
>>
>>79014415
Made me check it, and the little mermaid isn't from the 90s. I though that the Beauty and the Beast wasn't either (that's why I didn't mentioned it) but you're actually right about that one.

Tarzan and Aladdin are not better at all imho. Specially Tarzan that was good but only had Phil Collins as his strong point.
>>
>>79014712
Bull fucking shit, Beauty and the Beast was the 80's incarnate. I can live with it having been made in the 80's and released in 1990 or something.
>>
>>79013521
Who gives a flying fuck about anything the Greeks think? Their educational system is so fucked that not even most of them understand their own history.
>>
>>79014672
>Gods don't go to Hades.
To be fair, the point of the juice was to make Herc mortal, so he would go to Hades if he died.

Now, the fact that he's a baby might change that.
>>
>>79012996
Personally I wasn't interested in the "Olympic gods are marketed like Pro Wrestlers" gag that the whole movie used... Loved the movie otherwise.
>>
>>79014802
You've got a point. The only argument I can make for this is that Hades maybe can't keep track of who dies after all, they're all swirling around.
>>
>>79014416
They actually did in Mythology. Don't even think she's around in Disney.

Disney/Pixar almost always put stupid amount of research into their movies
They fly the main creative people to the settings or bring the settings to them: they dumped a whole truck of garbage onto the parking lot for Wall-E and went to japan for BH6 and based baymax on a japanese bell.
Because its really the little things that matter the most when making an animated movie

most don't even care. greek mythology is just that. a myth. a story. it's not something that actually happened, but rather available for entertainment purposes. even in greece we have several different versions of our mythology, some darker than others. just look at is as having different versions of a classic fairy tale.
>>
>>79016358
No joke anon, they dumped a pile of garbage in the parking lot and sketched it for the opening sequence with wall E on the junked out earth
>>
>>79016378
It was quite jarring because it was back when CGI was starting to creep into places where it didn't belong. The other Disney CGI and even most of it in the rest of Hercules was toned down or melded with traditional art which made it look a lot better.
>>
>>79016393
Yeah, I get that. It's more like how some Irish/Welsh people who get mad when other people use Celtic mythology, and really how upset just about everyone gets when their mythology is used. Maybe it's just an internet thing.

I've done a number of troll posts about how they treated the mythology but it's personally my favorite animated Disney movie and I think it's fairly reverent if not faithful to the original stories. Just the little stuff like baby Hercules fighting the two snakes for example or the appearance of Cerberus.
>>
>>79016679
Hephaestus definitely knew. In the myths, he trapped Aphrodite and Ares in bed with a golden net, and then invited all the other gods to come laugh at them. For some reason.

I'm fine with 99% of it but Hera being nice just puts me off. Even the Kevin Sorbo show had her as the villain.

Eh, never heard anyone hate it. At most, I've just seen people consider it dumb, maybe complaining that Herc was too whiny or Pain & Panic were too annoying, but I'd say a lot of people are indifferent to it rather than actively disliking it.

Disney is always inaccurate but there's a difference between that and being completely unrecognisable. They could have picked a different myth if Herc wasn't PC enough Hell they didn't need to mention Hera was Zeus' wife if that made her a more convenient villain. Instead what we got was not an adaptation nor a good story in it's own right.
>>
>>79019939

Hercules is the exact same thing as pretty much any other Disney adaptation, which is taking the base elements of something (mainly names and characters) and putting their own spin on it.
