Aaron has been setting up Holly to crumble for YEARS

Her world was literally shattered, it took everything she had to bring herself back. She is suddenly tiny, weak and helpless in a barren world, her lover and child gone.

Endtown helped her find peace with herself, and she helped people because she had gone through what they were going through and she truly understood, but now that is gone too after the milk trial.

Her faith in her world has been broken one too many times. Seeing a strongly convicted, compassionate person being broken down into a shadow of themselves is truly tragic.

If you are starting from the beginning beginning, it is initially more of a dark comedy.

It becomes more serious starting with the second set of main characters.
Not to say part one doesn't have serious moments or that the current phase doesn't have comic relief, but they were definitely skewed in opposite directions.

More likely to be another universe. Remember that Marx is a planeswalker and talked about infinite amount of universes to Mallard, where the only difference between two of them could be something as simple as a table having a chocolate bar in one but not in the other at a given point in time.

Wally, Kirbie, Chick and (alledgedly) Holly were transported to one that is very similar to their own, which obviously will work as a way to tell Holly's backstory.
