The funniest thing about this comic is that women seem to generally dislike Whor.
Case in point:
I was at an interview the other day for a non comic related project. The woman giving me the interview saw that I work as a comic artist as well and general design work. She takes a minute out of the interview to tell me how much she disliked the new female Thor and how ridiculous SWJ/tumblr/crybabies have been with turning traditional characters into women or gay or black, and not just come up with new characters. As if the characters were piggy-backing on the popularity of the original characters and not being left to develop as original characters.

Legacies are the standard procedure, though.
And Jane is her own character, just a shirty one.
What is actually tragic is that they just completely reprogrammed Carol. Not that much of value was lost, but they didn't bother replacing it, either.

I guess it's nice that she's Thor, but it leaves a weird taste in my mouth(?) that everyone must praise her as character in the comics without question.
That page that has been memes to death with Titania and the Absorbing man was so cringe that it stained the purpose of the character for me.

To be fair, Carol has always been a terrible character. It's one of those characters that every writer has had a shot at, but the end result is always terrible.

Supporting cast isn't the problem. The problem is that they want Carol to be this hip cool badass character, but it trying to mold her that way they lost all the baggage from her backstory that made her a "real" person.
I'm not a fan of her gender neutral look. The hair style is very butch and the body suit tones down her figure. I'm not a big fan of her old outfits either, not because it was super sexual swimsuit but because it was kind of a lazy design.

Angela is a real character, like her or not.
Kamala Khan has conquered hearts across the Web.
Squirrel Girl has been an annoying but distinct player for a long time.
Singularity and POD are pretty novel concepts and more recognizable than Carol every day of the week.

As someone whose actually been enjoying most of this run, that whole page was fucking disgusting. It makes EVERYONE look bad! Absorbing Man, Titania, Jane, Marvel, Aaron, it was top-to-bottom horrible.

Sure there's occasional cringe moments (like "right ladies :^)?" and some of Odin's dialogue) but the comic never gets even remotely as bad as that scene. And the worst part is that that scene didn't even contribute anything to the actual issue. It felt like it was just shoehorned in there, considering how completely out of place it felt. Just this quick interlude to shut down the people who were complaining in the worst way possible.

Made even worse when you compare it to how Eric Masterson handled his first encounter with Absorbing Man and Titania. Now THERE was a Thor legacy that I could get behind.

Well her new ongoing has Alpha Flight and Abigail Brand as the supporting cast so we'll see if that helps at all. I can always use more Puck and Brand. Never heard of the writers before though and it doesn't matter how great your supporting cast is if the writer(s) suck.
