Dreamwave had something similar, where Cons were conquerers, and Bots were defenders, and Prime was an archivist there. But the Military Hardware and Consumer Goods thing only happened when Pax was a labourer.

I couldn't possibly disgree more. What's cool about the Transformers is that they're aliens first and robots second. They don't hold the normal function of robots in science fiction. To then say they're origin was just like any other robot origin in sci-fi takes away their originality.

Yeah, it's kind of a shame. I actually really enjoyed her character, mostly because they did a good job at rounding her up. I thought she was gonna be a no fun allowed by the book eye-rolling humorless pro, and in a way she was, but they also did a great job of balancing that with her eager space cadet personality and exploring the idea of her using her law book as a tether to Cybertron, her own way to cope with being away from home. It made for a much more likeable, enjoyable character than I thought she'd end up being.
Her going full-on catty bitch mode when Windblade showed up was shit tho'.

See, that's exactly what bothered me about that episode. It would have made perfect sense for Strongarm to be mad at Windblade because she endangered humans and thought she was too cool for procedure (which even Sideswipe follows, when prompted to). Instead, the episode made it look like Strongarm was just angry at not being the only girl in the team any more. They had a perfect source of conflict and differing opinions but didn't use it as much as "lol you just jelly my helly".

It kinda amuses me that the old fanon reconciliation of "Primus created Cybertronians, he just let them be invaded and branwashed by Quintessons for millions of years because reasons" has become canon, albeit at the cost of the stupidity that is "Quintus Prime". I'd much rather Quintessons-creating-Transformers-as-living-weapons over THAT any day.

And I like the idea of a race of tentacled horrors that are actually cosmic swindlers.

The G1 cartoon had females from nearly the beginning. You didn't see them often because they focused on characters that there were toys of, but they existed.

The comics did not have females, becuase Simon Furman hated the idea of "alien robots having gender" (though you might as well have the same issues with them being humanoid or speaking English.) Arcee was created in the comics by Optimus to appease a bunch of angry feminists who complained they were sexist.

Animated and Aligned/Prime/RiD all had females from the start as well.

In IDW Furman introduced "crazy trannie Arcee," who was a male robot who got forcibly sex changed to introduce gender to Cybertron. They retcon this as saying that all the women went out with the colonies or were killed, so Arcee was just a reintroduction of females to that section of the race.

There have been female Transformers for much longer than there hasn't been. There's just a very vocal (insane) subgroup of the fandom who desperately hates the idea of fembots.

This is an apt comparison.

Despite Furman's failings, he gave the franchise direction, made a lot of characters who they are today, and he was a boon to the whole thing for many years. It's just like Penders- for as shit as he was, it should be said that it was his idea to turn the Sonic comic from a gag comic into an action/adventure one, which is what has kept it going for all this time.

The problem with some writers is that they don't really evolve their storytelling as they go, or take things too personally,

Personally I don't find the Quint origin makes them less alien. And I certainly prefer it to the Primus one, which seems to be the case in the majority of canon universes.

I just like the idea of emergent intelligences, and how religion would develop once they drive off their creators.

I think the best option is one where their origins are lost, where even the oldest bots weren't online when the first cities had rusted over.

Where they find ancient ruins, and ascribe them to god like creators. They see the Great Dome of Iacon, filled with glittering spires, and to them it was obviously once the home of the gods (with how many of them depending on if they're Primalist, Unicronist, Handist, or any number of other faiths)

The Well of All Sparks, the most holy spot on Cybertron, rather than being where Solus Prime met her fate and melted to the core, is more likely a Hot Spot, certainly the oldest, if not the first. It's just been mined over the aeons, removing every trace of spark and Cybermatter.
