With Homestucks final (or next to final) update coming up in only THREE months I would say now is a good time to start the final reread. At a casual pace if you start today you'll be able to finish the entire comic and refresh your memory before the update without rushing your way through. Go ahead. Take one last victory lap.
To help I'm gonna leave the Homestuck book commentaries in the second post here for the first three acts.
In the meantime I'm gonna dump some of the oldest fanart I have to try and get that old homestuck sensawundah back.
pffft good work pastebin
heres the mega link for the .docs if you want em for whatever reason.
thanks. seems like everytime I drop the commentary links the threads always die.
Maybe it means people are too busy reading to post? I hope so it took a long time to write it all down
What was your reason for reading homestuck? Were you able to hop one when the iron was hot back in 2010/2012? Start during Problem Sleuth?
I became aware of the comic in 2010 when descend hit
I remember watching the flash and having no idea what was happening but that my friends were going nuts over it. After that I forgot about it again for a good long while.
When it started getting crazy popular in Act 5 one of my friend pestered me into reading it. I remember being confused as to how it worked thinking I was on someone elses save file.
I gave it a good chance and was HOOKED on the compounding mysteries presented in the first act. And I absolutely adored the overly complex game mechanics.
I knew I was really truly digging the comic when I got to [S] Act 4 and LOWAS stunned me. Looking back now it was just a walk around flash exploring and some bare bones combat but god damn when I got to that page was I not feeling a serious sense of wonder and exploration.
Felt like I was on a legit adventure like when I was little playing in the woods with my brothers
stay cool nothsg. Seems like nows not the time. I'll probably stop by the next HS thread that comes up and drop the links again.
I'll be starting my own reread tonight. Took me 2 weeks last time to catch up from page 1 to eridans intro so we'll see how it ends up.
There isn't anywhere near enough of these.
One of the bigger contributions to the comics crazy popularity was definitely the alchemization. Thats such a great concept it allows you to make any crazy thing your imagination can think up.
I made A LOT of The Overseer Project items in my spare time. Fun text based game that was. Recently had a big update too with consorts and stuff.
>sometime around 2011 I think
>not even sure how I found out about the comic but I ended up giving it a shot
>fell in love with it due to the same reasons you described in your later posts
>read and catch up with the comic just in time to witness [S] Cascade drop
>extremely jaded around that time
>find out about the mess of a fandom, stop following the comic around the time Dirk was introduced
>remember that Homestuck exists
>"I remember the fanbase being terrible, but was it really that bad?"
>reread everything up to act 6 in a day
>remembered why I loved the comic in the first place
I wish I wasn't such a cunt back then and stuck around to talk about the comic with /co/, but now those days are long gone. I'm a bit grateful though since I got to read act 6 without any of the pauses.
I started reading Homestuck from the start. I learned about Hussie's work after Ryan North posted a link from his comic to Andrew's. Andrew was just a little under half-way done with Problem Sleuth at the time.
I liked Homestuck when it started. A lot of other people who had loved Problem Sleuth did not. Quite a few of them thought it was taking too long, but my favorite parts of Problem Sleuth were the slower beginning parts too. What got my really involved with Homestuck was WV: ascend. Joined the forum, got really really involved. And then sort of... just lost interest once Act 5 Act 2 started. Andrew changed focus too much for me. Still read, but haven't really enjoyed it for years.
Im just a random fan. For all my MSPA stuff I go by rambunctiousHooligan or hawkofrawk on tumblr.
Only stuff I've done for homestuck is contribute in /co/ sings gamebro and make the lordenglishposts tumblr
Been using /hsg/ from around murderstuck to when it got shitcanned around cascade then drifted around posting every now and then in these threads.
I've been asking myself that a lot lately and I'd have to say the amount of enjoyment I've gotten from this comic has been worth the time. Homestuck is probably my favorite...thing. It being a huge part of almost a third of my life (mostly during teenage formative years) is probably a large part of it.
>hawkofrawk on tumblr.
Oh hey. you're one of my followers.
then again a good portion of hst probably is
Godsdamn, that really takes me back.
I swear we have the exact same sense of humor.
Never stop doodling these things they consistently make me laugh.
It was a simpler time. A more peaceful time. When Homestuck would update, and I'd hear another chiptune remix of Doctor that reminds me why I started reading the comic.
>guys, vrisjohn and karezi are endgame!
>instead of letting vriska rest after act 5 with her alt!John, she is back and trying to claw herself back to relevancy
>everyone on the meteor became retarded
>Aradia was too normal, let's make her into a flanderized creeplord
>"you don't need him"
>We could have had a section of Homestuck where the kids end up on post-apocalyptic Earth and have to do puzzles there while spooky shadows watch them
>Completing a puzzle in the ruins of Austin activates something in the ruins of the Frog Temple and vice versa
>Eventually the exiles use a transportalizer to warp the kids back to the game
>They use it on themselves and disappear
>Come Act 6 it turns out they were sent to post-apocalyptic B2 Earth, where they help the B2 kids the same way
>Everyone pulls an effort to rescue them at the end of the story
>Looking back now it was just a walk around flash exploring and some bare bones combat but god damn when I got to that page was I not feeling a serious sense of wonder and exploration.
THIS was always my favorite thing about Homestuck. There were other funny webcomics with plot out there, but Homestuck was more than a web"comic". It felt like the first bit of web entertainment to really take advantage of the internet. I mean, there are other works out there that do that, but Homestuck was the first real multimedia web story. It felt like the lid had been blown off of this thing that nobody had ever explored before.
I'm unfortunately as jaded as most people regarding Homestuck nowadays, but I'll always treasure those early days of reading the story. Looking back, it does feel a lot like getting nostalgic over an old videogame. For all the ups and downs, I'm really glad Homestuck was a thing.
I started late in 2014. My ex was super into it and after we broke up i pathetically thought we could get back together if we bonded over this shitty webcomic. Now I'm in too deep and want to see how it ends.
Read it during last Summer instead of studying for my exams, after having dropped it in April because I didn't get what was happening in S Descent.
Kinda regret not reading it while it was at its peak and missing most of the fandom as it was happening.
Man I started reading my first year of college so like 2011 or so after a friend
I girl I likedbrought it up as something they thought I would like.
I spent about a week of free consuming all of it. I think the first update I was 100% caught up for was the prince is awake shit with dirk.
I really enjoyed all of the fun banter between the 4 kids originally and as the cast bloated I really started to stop caring. I still vividly remember getting chills during the introduction of John's guardian, all the empathizing with Dave and the bullshit with his brother, vriska's redemption just before getting kek'd by terezi. There were so many good moments but none of it actually ever mattered and that's disappointing.
Did Dave ever finish his quest? Did Rose? Did anyone?
Dave and Rose abandoned their quests, because Dave has PTSD and Rose still has issues with authority so she's sticking it to Skaia like a child. Jade completed hers at Cascade, and John recently finished his, gaining a "final mastery over his confining reality" and becoming a walking deus ex machina. It was pretty satisfying to watch.
I remember when grimbark and roxy meet. I got that first fapfic out
God it's been years since I've bothered being a writefag.
They're basically the emo-tier brooding loser side of the ecto-teen family.
They suck because they have to turn the whole thing into an overblown soap opera and overanalyze it and misinterpret what the quests are trying to tell them and play the hurting antihero who's lost in their lives, even before they actually did the goddamn quests they were assigned. Meanwhile John and Jade just did the quests they were given, were rewarded with incomparable power and skill, and made their interpretations after their quests were finally completed. Roxy just wanted to have a good time and rolled with whatever she was given, no matter how absurd or mundane.
Yeah, they're basically stuck in this line of thinking and haven't really grown out of it during the three-year trip. I also can't help but have the feeling that Dave and Rose's relationships with Karkat and Kanaya respectively, in some manner, is also contributing to them running away from their issues, partly because Karkat and Kanaya have issues of their own and are either incapable or not fully aware of them.
I'm going to wait for you guys to watch the ending, get a tl;dr, and decide if I'm going to bother from there.
Probably not. Maybe I'll read Problem Sleuth and pretend Homestuck never happened.
>>Game Over Karkat and Kanaya not shown in the Remem8er flash
You know, that's a valid complaint I had not considered.
>Homestuck is finally fucking ending
>its been unreadable garbage for way over half its existence
Was it all worth anything to you people?
As someone that read homestuck archivally after reading Problem Sleuth, up to like... Act 6 part 1, whenever that green piece of shit stopped being a thing for a while, don't even waste your time.
You don't have to pretend HS doesn't exist, just be comfortable in knowing its trash.
desu Trump is pretty similiar to Vriska
so he would do good in Homestuck
Back in 2009 I saw [S] Dave: Accelerate linked from a
pokemonforum but didn't care to see anything else for thinking MSPA was a Newgrounds clone.
Then in 2011 my friend recommended PS, I discovered homestuck and stopped archivally reading by A6A3. I was spoiled about trolls and alpha kids, but only because of what pumpking ads, so didn't know the fandom's deal until then.
....What a ride.
I started back when Homestuck threads were still called MSPA threads. There was a picture of the original ORIGINAL trolls in the OP; Karkat, Terezi, Kanaya, Tavros, and I thought to myself "Oh man Problem Sleuth musta gotten crazier! I better go finish it." Then I finished it and realized Homestuck was an entirely different thing and here we are. Caught up around when Rose entered the medium.
Holy shit, I just remembered two specific old fanart images.
One was all the Trolls drawn as actual humans and it was before we were shown how Karkat really looked like.
And the other one was someone predicting how Eridan and Feferi will look like. The artist was spot-on for Feferi looking like a mermaid, but Eridan looked like a legit fantasy troll for being fat and having an ugly face. Oh, and Eridan has Feferi in his giant aquarium glass thing.
Please, all John's going to do is waste his boonbucks on building a wall around the universe to "keep out those green weirdos :)"
and it won't even matter because all the cherubs are already there
>had a really swollen alien head?
He was also fat and had red eyes if I remember correctly.
The latter one can still be found on MSPAF. That's where I saw it.
I also remember an old image with John and Rose going to kill Terezi and then the follow-up panel with Rose holding Terezi's horns. It was around the update when Dave and Rose got stuck in a doomed session, because John went to his denizen. That one can also be found on MSPAF.
A webcomic with occasional animated and interactive segments whose creator took simple ideas like the Zodiac, Chess Pieces and Pool Balls, turned them into characters and sold it back to the mouth breathing drooling masses.
Also its about a game that destroys your universe. The game uses your choices to create villains for you to defeat, but the main characters completely fucked up by making their Big Boss an unbeatable God, creating an unbeatable game which they then have to hack reality to overcome, causing even more problems. Also timetravel. A lot of it.
>imagine a scenario with karkat getting a makeover instead of vriska
I long for days of secretaries and tsunamis.
Also, this is the only homestuck related image I have left on my computer.
At first a coming-of-age story wrapped up in story about a giant world-ending game that escalates into a battle for all reality
Now it's about people sitting around talking about being gay.
The comic equivalent of getting blueballed by a really hot girl, who turns out to be a dude with herpes in the first place.
Thanks for the commentaries
I saw it here at the end of hivebent (I remember people shitting themselves over http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004371)
I tried to read it but quickly dropped, after a while (a few months? I don't remember) I binge-read PS, then read HS
It had terrible pacing though. Set right after hypeworthy Descend when you just want to read about the kids, you have to slog through 12 troll introductions and them fucking around being useless before the story starts being relevant again. You're expecting a conclusion or falling action for the kids, when instead you're suddenly yanked away to start reading a story about 12 other idiots. Like the anon said above, you're getting blueballed by the story.
I first read the comic up to the most recent point back when John was looking down into his dad's room, about to jump into it from the roof.
I'm terrible with time, when was that exactly? It was a while ago, I think.
Everything was better than what we got now.
So correct me if I'm mistaken, but Dave's character revolved around heroism/living up to his brother and/or John, and how he was afraid to accept that mantle since he didn't think he was good enough. And the apparent resolution for this arc was for him to legitimately stop trying and giving up?
Pretty much. In the pre-retcon timeline it was hinted that with Jade on his ass all the time he'd eventually get back to reluctantly being a hero, but post-scratch he has no incentive so he doesn't.
I honestly can't tell if Hussie plans to actually gives the characters a good arc in the end or if he thinks ignoring it is just subverting expectations of cliche writing and things it's better for that and this is all we'll get.
He's far from ignoring it. It seem pretty obvious that the story's not going to just let Dave and Rose and the rest of the kids stay in their comfort zones and not move past their issues.
the solution was to act like a whiny teenager with no real problems, in a scenario where he HAS to fight or else two different races will be wiped out or enslaved.
he also has the potential to be really powerful since he can make stable time loops, but refuses to do so.
Can't even remember. It was before cascade so as late 2011 at the very least. Pretty sure i found it through /co/.
It wasn't the first but I'll be dammed if it used the web medium to it's full extent.
>that time hussie correlated being a fanartist and fanwriter coming up with bullshit ships and self-inserting was okay and what the good guys do
>that time hussie insinuated wanting to know more about lore and the game itself as being akin to a muh-soggy-knee shitposter child
Not who you're responding to here.
I dunno man, I've got a friend who reads insanely fast. And I already read so fast people think I'm skimming.
I watched him playing KotOR for the first time ever and you'd think from how quickly he goes through dialogue that he was speedrunning it. But no, he totally is reading that fast. He knows the plot points he just screamed through and everything. And like I said, he is playing for the first time.
thing is, I read pretty fast too, but I seriously doubt a couple days is enough time, the meenah walkabouts by themselves could take over an hour, and there's hours of animation to watch
I remember some time ago one of the music team did a speedrun of homestuck at that point (they just kept clicking next over and over without reading), I didn't watch it because it honestly sounds like the dullest way to spend time but it took him three hours just doing that
According to professional memelogy experts, all people born under Sagittarius are controlled by their dick and sense of adventure. So, Equius, and all the human kids except for John and Jane share that trait.
Hussie is a hack for stealing his characterizations from astrology generalizing bullshit.
Which is said by Dave, someone who's unwilling to move on from his own arc.
>tfw I read and liked all three of those books as well as Homestuck
Always felt Gravity's Rainbow was a better comparison than Ulysses.
What he needs is someone he wants to protect
Karkat and Dave sitting around sleeping Jade was cute.
What was ruined? That's too vague a statement.
everything has been ruined
Getting your dick slammed in a door is better than davekat.
December 2013. The reason was I had a lot of free time before visiting home over the holidays, and decided to finally give it a read to judge for myself instead of listen to the praise or bitching of others.
What are your predictions for the ending?
>Everyone groups up and defeats LE
>Just as everyone is about to have their final goodbyes/epilogue, John wakes up
>John realizes it was just a dream and starts playing.
>Screen cuts out like the end of a VHS movie, Live-Action Hussie with a live-in Ryan North comment that it wasn't as good as Problem Sleuth
>Final page is Hussie with a gun at the stump
>not counting all the freakish offsprings that have been produced as people
It's clearly post-game.
>implying I'm talking about the human/troll ships and not the fact that the kids are genetic freaks, especially Jade
We're gonna get kids with red eyes and dog ears, that's freaky.
I read it once a long time ago then decided to give it another chance in 2014. First time I read up to the introduction of the mayor and couldn't find where I left off so I said fuck it. Second time I watched CoLab's let's read homestuck all the way to ch6 where I then had to keep up with the actual comic. Stayed for the wacky time travel and vriska
>in the end, he fooled himself
I've just been going off of pre-gigapause personalities
Nobody has noticed a single time.
Have you guys checked out the scene lately? It's fucking deplorable, it's all been evaporated into really really distant AU stuff and shit that's essentially just using the characters for their vague body types and appearance matched with some sort of generic slut persona. I can't fucking stop participating. It's awful.
Homestuck hit it's peak long ago. The moment that it would never top. That it will not, in the future, ever surpass. You know it, deep in your heart. Perhaps you even knew it then.
It's not the shark-jump, the series continued to be solid for some time afterwards. But every moment that followed was in some way dwarfed in its shadow. You know what I mean.
You are completely right anon.
>tfw normie friends love the nic cage song but despise homestuck
it looks like we'll get a lot of English related stuff.
Which is ultimately boring because we know everything about him now
>using the characters for their vague body types and appearance matched with some sort of generic slut persona
Most unfiltered fanart went the same way now... wew lad.
move over Homestuck, when're we getting that sequel to The Inaugural Death of Mister 7?
>still perpetrating the reddit fandom meme wars
Roxykitten is pure and not-inbred
you can talk,kek
At least people know about Sadie's song. Christ, at least OUR video game is actually out and playable. How do you like having half the money for your low-budget sjw-pandering meme game stolen?
>your fandom is bad because it produces funny youtube videos while our general was just sperglords saying "eri wweh wweh eri stop it eri i shit my diaper eri"
Karkat and Dave walk through the ending door like this
A whole lot of lore will remain unexplained
The fact that there must have been some sort of huge, massive undertaking to form skaia and develop sburb will be entirely glossed over to talk about intergalactic gay teenagers doing gay things together.
Am I the only one still buttmad about Hussie making ANYTHING other than a SBURB game? I mean, half of what made me love the comic initially was the idea of a game like that (not that I expect to be teleported into another universe, but ya know what i mean)
>Giving away a lot of money for little return
to be absolutely fair, only one does.
4chan culture works under an anon/board system. you get your happy feelings when people like you enough to reply to your posts and agree with you- but that's it, because the post gets erased. you can attentionwhore if you want but (trips aside) it's not permanent.
on tumblr, on the other hand, stuff goes by poster(trip)/post. on 4chan everybody reads everything, but tumblr doesn't delete old posts. they stay forever- and so people become much more invested in gaining followers since all new content has to compete with old content.
the more people who see something highly inflammatory, the more people read your blog and consume your other content. people there respond to this by creating Discourse, which is sjw slut shaming and screaming and attracts trolls and is generally a terrible mess.
tl;dr tumblr isn't nearly as homogeneous as 4chan pretends to be, everyone there is trips, trips tend to be horrible.
To be fair, the Condesce is both John's adoptive great-great-grandmother, AND adoptive grandmother. John would be royalty, if the Alternian monarchy didn't allow only heiresses to take the throne.
>Came on-board second half of 2013, during the Megapause and not knowing what the fuck that meant
>Be not caught up, but fairly sufficient by the time the Gigapause hits
>Spend Gigapause creating all kinds of stupid sprite edits on
tumblrwith probably every single character at some point or another
>Post Gigapause comic doesn't have the same charm, continue making edits anyway
>Watch as the once plucky kids who enjoyed your edits slowly morph into pretentious snotnoses who use they/them pronouns
>Slowly but surely the comic starts deteriorating too
>It's like every update is a bottle of Nuka Cola, and soon the whole thing's gonna die of radiation poisoning
>tfw you are so pathetic this actually does make you the tiniest bit sad
On the topic of rereads, I wonder if I should. But I used to be an enthusiastic teen and I've read this thing more times than any one man should. Plus I'm so disillusioned by the story at this point, I wonder if I'll even enjoy it again?
But I did promise myself when I started reading I'd do a reread when the end came, so who knows?
He probably originally planned for the characters to have arcs (probably non-traditional arcs, but beginnings middles and ends at least), then as he continually failed to actually develop the characters on-screen and people started talking about it he actively avoided them out of spite.
He probably just looked on twitter every once in a while and did the exact opposite of what people were complaining about. It was endearing for a little while, but it just got exhausting over the years.
Reminder that most trolls are nocturnal and all have huge bugged-out eyes and that shining a flashlight at them would likely blind them.
Reminder that Alternia was next to a hotter star than Sol and didn't have polar ice caps, along with cherubs being raised under the light of a supergiant star, so humans are the only player-species that can survive even mild cold weather.
usually davekat makes me unreasonably mad but that would be fucking hilarious
Sooooooo... act 6?
Going down a list of webcomics. It was one of the last ones. I dropped it but picked it back up thinking there had to be more to it after seeing the general spammed relentlessly on /co/.
This had to have been '11 sometime I think.
There's so much room for milking here that he could have made it go on for 10 years and I'd be thoroughly satisfied.
Am I the only one who thought exiles were boring as shit? I mean I guess I didn't like the pre-homestuck webcomics either. Exiles, problem sleuth, the first intermission, all boring as crap to me.
Guess you had to "be there" when the commands were being submitted. That sounded like it could have made it more fun, but as an archival that shit was lame.
At this point, if you're thorough in walkarounds it can be like a 60 hour read.
I saw some dude doing a voice acting improvement video where he did equius. I thought he was the main character, didnt recognize that he had a broken horn i thought it was a curved arrow going through his head.
Remember when people were speculating what LE would look like?
>None of the good AU fan comics will ever be finished
God I remember even planning out a whole session involving me and 5 other friends.
>people tought sollux was LE because cascade didn't load to 100%
Probably? This was the version I was introduced to way back when I first started reading it.
It's worth noting that, by and large, most of the trolls ARE tangential though. Or at least they were back when I stopped reading (a little after Game Over, John was warping around and using passwords from Terezi).
What the biggest problem people find to be happening now in Homestuck that is making you hate/dislike the story and Hussie's choices in storytelling?
Shortcuts being used as actual character strategies and not punished. I like to see characters actively work for their rewards, not give up and do nothing while someone with actual initiative does all the heavy lifting.
Remember how the Denizens supposedly guarded the largest grist hoards in the game, which you absolutely needed to complete the game? And how the characters would have to meet with their denizens to get it, be it fighting them or making a deal with them? And how the kids all experimented with the Sburb tech themselves to find out what it all does? Remember how all that meant jack shit because so few people actually met their denizens, Vriska gave an exposition dump, and Arquiusprite did the damn Ultimate Alchemy for them?
Fuckin' waste of time.
The lack of follow through on introduced elements
Planet quests (we really only see Caliborn's quest finished, even then we don't get to experience it)
those combo attacks whose names slip my mind
Character arcs/dialogue at certain points
I hate how the game is just completely sidelined for some reason. The final bosses, Lord English and HIC, don't even have anything to do with the game in the grand scheme of things. Remember Jack Noir, the crazy game NPC that gained ultimate power through the kids' actions? I guess no one gives a shit about him anymore. Sure, there's going to be a Jack Off, but it's not like any of the characters care about that.
Let's stop the negative thinking for a while. I think we get that Homestuck has declined by this point.
Post your favorite panel.
>Chats with reasonable people to lift their spirits
>Decks unreasonable people to punish them for their hubris
John is the hero the group has always needed. The one true non-quack therapist.
>stopped reading sometime after act 6 part something, 2 I think
This seems like a good time to go through the comic over again. I love Hussie's older shit, so I might as well finish homestuck out of principle.
Got into it in 2011, was obsessed with it until about the time I graduated high school (2013). I just got back into it in July of last year and am shocked at how much the fandom has changed. Can't wait for it to finally end though.
the moral is that your attitude is all that matters and that even if you're a good person, as long as you use bad words you're evil
just wait for karkat to say he's learned from dave that using swear words is pissbab--I mean immature.
Tavros deserves happiness and winning the Terezibowl.
I've just now finished reading Homestuck for first time.
Good lord, it was hell of a trip.
I'm so sad it's over for now.
Retcon was good. "Game over" was impressive.
Also I think that first ~half of Homestuck is better that rest of it. Still Homestuck was good overall.
What do you mean exactly?
>penis ouja has been retconned to Karkat and Dave giggling like schoolgirls
fuck that shitty half-assed male rosemary clone
too bad we are getting this pairing as endgame
How could I miss it, lol?
Dunno. Somewhere in my head. I'm ok with that.
Maybe I'm too impressible.
>I really enjoyed all of the fun banter between the 4 kids originally and as the cast bloated I really started to stop caring
I loved the banter and the dialogue. That was the whole reason I was able to stomach it for the first 4 acts.
That whole part with Karkat was literally Naruto tier, it was disgusting. We can only hope that for the sake of the end of the comic Hussie doesn't draw as lazily as he did last year.
>still no Aradia/Nepeta smut fics
>Equius will never win the Aradiabowl
>"Kissing Equius was a mistake"
When will they admit their red feelings for each other?
>terezi's weak ass reaction to calliope being a weird skull person
>kismessitude being redefined to just mean 'people who argue sometimes'
i wanted to forget the piss-poor bantz, but the world won't let me
I just wanted to see someone lose their shit, man
or at least acknowledge how fucked up calliope looks, but instead its this weird idealized scenario where a skeleton shows up and everyone just pretends not to notice
Can Dave's dick even enter Karkat's manlet boipussi?
probably. hussie "avoided" giving the kids a set race and let people fill in the gaps themselves.
Of course this when diminished by hussie being a white man, writing characters who are white nerd stereotypes using white descriptors
Probably, I don't recall it being anywhere else. It's kinda sad how fast that took hold as more and more people migrated from deviantart to tumblr.
They're not boring, and they were shown as the 5th to 8th main characters when they were introduced - the remaining four and five trolls were mostly presented more as primary secondary characters.
I like homestuck but not so much hsg after a while. Threads tend to move towards festering fetishes as all threads do instead of discussion especially during hiatus ie sug and gfg.
I liked to speculate and theory craft. I loved the positive and creative spirit everybody. Especially spazzing out whenever the update program pops out on my desktop with some crazy fun flailing gif.
I believe it never to be a big deal or a need to know that affects the story. Not that it doesnt have to be expressed but not something that should have been emphasized frustrated Hussie.
But the current fandom climate is obsessed with socially correct guidelines. For example the peer pressure and or popularity on Tumblr to draw racially and sexually diverse aus. So the homestuck fandom just kept askibg and pushing the issue til Hussie had to readdress the issue which may or may not had led to his changing address.
Homestuck was always the poster child of the move fron Deviant art to tumblr as a fandom vehicle/medium to me at least.
I didnt get into the fandom or explosion of fan art because I cannot and do not use tumblr.
So I am always getting seconded handed material on here which actually turns out to be decent filtering system.
What were your thoughts on the most recent Hiveswap update?
And how do you think this game is going to be when it finally comes out?
I'm cautiously optimistic, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much.
Yeah all the constant direction changing is probably not good for the development, but at least this
>One silver lining to the game taking longer to develop than expected is it's now benefited from much more conceptual development than it would have if it had been released a year or two ago. Through additional writing and fine-tuning, Hiveswap has become an incredibly rich and detailed story, every bit as much as Homestuck is, but with a much more polished and accessible presentation than the webcomic had. It's gonna be very good, and I am very confident the fans will love it!
makes me hope that the story will be a nice cohesive, polished whole without all the stupid fandom bullshit impacting it like what happened with the later half of Homestuck.
I remember that time in HSG when everybody hated Terezi because they projected hard on Karkat and they were mad at her for hurting their feefees and being unfaithful.
How hard it is, being friendzoned by a fictional character?
Honestly, good. I fucking despise the cliche where children aspire to be identical clones of their parents in every way. Growing out of that mentality and deciding your own identity is good, but when you base your entire existence on fulfilling your ancestor's legacy and nothing else I begin to care less and less about what happens to you.
>Well I can hope it's going to be more planned out than that.
are we talking about the same kickstarter here
how do you feel about the alpha kids being almost identical to their guardian versions even though they grow up in completely different environments?
I wiki'd most of the story, played through the game portions, and watched all of the flash pages. I could never get into Hussie's writing style; unfortunately, I read somewhat slowly and it felt like a waste of time. I appreciate his story, and his visual storytelling, but otherwise I didn't enjoy actually experiencing it.
The fact that he was able to attract so many supporting artists and composers to build up a multi-sensory universe that could be enjoyed on several levels and by multiple intelligences is pretty astounding, though. [S] Cascade needs to be archived in the Library of Congress or something.
Simultaneous aggravation and comprehension. I get that it's supposed to be inherently the same people the guardians were, just now younger, but at the same time I wish they branched out into doing other stuff as a consequence of their different upbringing.
Like, keep their base personalities intact, but let them decide on interests themselves, because it won't end up the same. And the kids turned guardians becoming super successful legendary figures just feels like blatant wish fulfillment.
As most of the fandom knows, all of the human and troll players have a screen name that can be abbreviated to two letters using G,C,A, and T because those are the four proteins that comprise DNA. This is also the inspiration behind God Cat’s nickname ‘GCAT’. The exception to this rule being the Cherubs who both have uU as their abbreviated handle.
This is because in RNA, the protein Thymine is substituted for Uracil, making the possible proteins in RNA G,C,A, and U. Having a nod to RNA sequencing instead of DNA isn’t just to spice up the pattern, however! While DNA is a double-stranded molecule, RNA has only a single-strand. Cherubs are double-minded beings; two individuals sharing a single body. Despite being a single-strand, RNA can use complementary base pairings to fold into itself and form a intrastrand double-helix known as tRNA, mimicking the structure of DNA despite being only a single chain of nucleotides.
thanks for drawing elaborate conclusions for a simple theme naming, captain obvious/bkew
hussie canonically only noticed he was dna themeing the chumhandles by accident and ran with it. cherubs occupy a zodiac sign not commonly included, so they get the uracil rna base instead of a dna sequence.
this ultimately means absolutely nothing.
its just one of those
Denizens are ~mysterious mythical godbeasts~ so we never get to see an actual conversation between them and the players. Either we see the aftermath and someone paraphrases what they said, or we get a pseudo-stained glass of the ancient hero accosting the devil serpent in speaking in a long-lost tongue instead.
Yes, this is another example of the deep meta Homestuck has to offer. However, the well goes deeper than Mr. Egbert's fatherly admiration of tobacco pipes; it was revealed very early on when Rose, as John's host player, interacted with the plumbing fixtures in John's house that the Egbert household also has pipes.
