Let how see Bennett does with relaunch
>Conan watching two attractive women do a vaudeville sword fight
That's meant to be him right, with the loincloth and tanned skin? Good way to do a cameo, in a non distracting way.
Jesus Sonja, if you're having that much of an existential crisis just go to a shittier kingdom. I'm sure Khitai or Shem or Aquilonia or any of the wild wastes of the world has some adventure in it.
That nothing compare.
>If I were Queen Sonja, I would have all sorts of exciting adventures and trysts and fun
>But I'm not, so everything is boring and safe
I think I would rather read about Queen Sonja, to be honest.
if they were going to cover Red Sonja up, they should have just went all the way and gave her actual, somewhat sensible armor.
this is the worst of both worlds: still stupidly impractical and desperately trying to ride the coat-tails of the tumblr comic movement.
Yeah, pretty uninspired all told. I like Red as a character and this version that looks more like she is described in the books is nice, but I expect more carnage with my Sonja. She's not very "red" in this, but maybe she will be?
Well, the whole issue here was banking on subverting her usual activities. Every time there was about to be action it was all quickly countered and played down, mostly for comedy. It's not a really bad direction to go for a first issue, but as you said, uninspired. Maybe it'll get better with more length as the story arc finishes, but I doubt it.
Honestly surprised that with covering up her chest that in turn, her chest is still the same size more or less.
Also scars are for TOUGH STRONG GRRLS.
This is just pretty bland and they expect the same of their newly intended audience.
>cover up a blatant fanservice character
Have you ever read a Red Sonja comic? She's covered more often than not.
Seriously? Writers nowadays even have to write female BARBARIANS like your average so-quirky, sarcastic, failing millennial?
It's one thing when they shit on their own company's created characters, but to do so on the legacy of actually great writers is just madness. Hopefully ISIS takes their company's name as an invitation.
Red Sonja did start off as a comic book character though. She never actually existed in prose form beyond that "Song of Red Sonja" nonsense. And are you really trying to imply pulp stories are any less childish than comic books?
>She never actually existed in prose form beyond that "Song of Red Sonja" nonsense.
>she never actually existed before that part I say doesn't exist because I say so
>And are you really trying to imply pulp stories are any less childish than comic books?
Modern comics? Yes, absolutely. They are just one inch above gossip magazines in terms of "literature" for stupid people nowadays.
I just noticed you actually meant "Song of Red Sonja" as an actual title. No, Sonja/Sonya was an actual Howard's character, mostly the same except that, instead of swords, she killed with guns.
And even the comic character is still set in Howard's universe, it still uses Howard's creations.
So I got the Song of Red Sonja part mixed up.
>>she never actually existed before that part I say doesn't exist because I say so
The point was that she was a nonentity before she was created for the comics. Everything people know about the character didn't come from Howard himself.
>The point was that she was a nonentity before she was created for the comics. Everything people know about the character didn't come from Howard himself.
That's a stupid argument, that's like saying Stoker's Dracula doesn't matter because his portrayals in movies are that much more famous.
But that's not what's being said. Dracula was a fully realized character, so you usually trace all other interpretations back to the original. Just like with Conan, there can be several interpretations, but no matter what, REH's stuff will always be the "true" Conan. Sonja doesn't have that going for her. All she has is an offhand mention in one story, with everything "iconic" about her coming after the fact. Even Valeria had more going for her in the one story she appeared in, and honestly, I don't know why she was never used more, since she was basically Blond Red Sonja.
